Symptoms
A very small number of iPad users have experienced issues with Wi-Fi connectivity. This article outlines workarounds for these issues. *Apple will also address remaining Wi-Fi connectivity issues with a future iPad software update.*

Resolution
If you consistently encounter issues connecting to a specific Wi-Fi network, try the following steps to resolve your issue:
Update Wi-Fi router firmware
Verify that your Wi-Fi router firmware is up-to-date.
Note: This is important if your Wi-Fi router supports 802.11n, as it may still be using the draft specification of the 802.11n standard.
For AirPort Base Stations, refer to this article for information about firmware updates. For third-party Wi- Fi routers, check the manufacturer's website for details on updating your firmware.
Use WPA or WPA2 wireless security
Check the wireless security option of your Wi-Fi router. If WEP is being used, try using WPA or WPA2.
Some Wi-Fi routers using WEP wireless security may cause intermittent disconnects to iPad which requires re-typing a password. Using WPA or WPA2 wireless security on your network will correct this issue.
Note: WPA and WPA2 encryption protocols are newer, more effective security options for wireless networks than the older WEP protocol.
Adjust screen brightness
Check to see if your screen brightness is set to the lowest level by going to Settings > Brightness & Wallpaper. If brightness is at lowest level, increase it by moving the slider to the right and set auto brightness to off.
Note: Brightness control in the iBooks application can also be used to adjust brightness.
Renew IP address
In some larger wireless networks it may be necessary to renew your IP address. Renew your IP address using the following steps:
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi
Locate the Wi-Fi network you are currently using and tap
Tap Renew Lease
If the issue persists, try turning Wi-Fi to Off and then to On.
If after attempting the troubleshooting tips provided above you are still having difficulty connecting to a network please contact Apple.

My experience on a recent trip without my MBP (a mistake I won't make again)? DoubleTree, McDonalds, Starbucks = Fail, fail, fail. Poor signal strength = fail.
Marriott, 2 different airports = success, success, success. Your "poor signal strength" is just a symptom of an incompatible network.
Define "old".
Any router that was not tested with an iPad before it was sold - all of them. Many of those routers were well made and comply with standards that were not written or finalized when they were sold. Those routers work well with devices such as the iPad that comply to those now-official standards.
Enlighten me, how is a router "misconfigured"?
It's been hacked up by every assistant store manager at McDonalds so it can run an array of peer-to-peer and gaming servers, as an example. There are literally an infinite number of ways for routers to be misconfigured.
You are saying that 20% of iPads are failing to connect and it's the router to blame.
I have no idea how many iPads fail to connect. If you added all of the replies to the "WiFi failure" threads here on Apple Discussions, it would be 0.2%. I think a more accurate number is somewhere in between. It isn't always the router to blame. Sometimes it is the user.
While I don't doubt router vagaries and the rube-ness of the general public being contributing factors, I'm certainly not a rube. Even know how to read and understand both my router instruction books.
But I gather you aren't a field IT support person for DoubleTree, McDonalds, or Starbucks.
I experienced the same kinds of problems when I first got my iBook and MacBook. Routers are cheap, break frequently, and get replaced on a regular basis. The next time you go back to those places, your iPad will probably work just fine.

Is a MacBook Pro (non-retina from 2011) also updated for the Thunderbolt issue? Or Retina MacBooks only?

    Go to Geekbench
    http://browser.primatelabs.com/mac-benchmarks
and check out the relative values for the system you're currently using versus the one you're going to buy. My guess is a fullly spec'd MBP Retina will do the job, but you're undoubtedly better qualified than anyone on here to tell what kind of a machine you need.

  • What is it talking apple so long to create an update for the whine issue?

I think it is pretty ridiculous that the only update apple has released that effects the whine issue, only makes it worse. Even worse is that users over here have managed to detect and resolve the issue before apple has managed to do so. So come on apple, what's taking so long? It's amazing how badly this situation is being handled.

They know about the whine issue, i just talked to a product specialist who told me that they knew about it.
He also told me that Apple was not planning on adressing it since the cpu whine was within specifications.
As i said, it was a product specialist not an engineer so there is still a little hope regarding this issue being fixed sometime in the future.
I am not the only one to be disappointed about this and other problems that MBPs have.
But for now i m going to try and enjoy what i have , at the end of the year i will buy a sony loaded with vista since Apple is not able to give me satisfaction.
I m a loyal Apple customer since many years, but i have had enough, no more repairs or exchanges for me; I wil just be switching back!
The only thing that could make me change my mind is if Apple recalled my defective computer in order to give me a machine free of problem.
So far it's impossible since they don't have such a machine in stock.

  • Every time apple sends an update for my Itunes it goes wrong. last time this happened I got someone to fix it for me. I am very techno phobic and do not understand the on line instructions for uninstalling and reenstalling. Please help in simple English.

when ever Apple sends an update to my pc, it knackers up my itunes. The last time this happened I got someone to fix the problem for me, I am very techno phobic and do not understand the uninstalling and reinstalling. It comes up error MSVCR80. Please can someone help in simple English , as the technical jargon just goes over my head.
    much Thanks

The last time this happened I got someone to fix the problem for me, I am very techno phobic and do not understand the uninstalling and reinstalling.
I think you should get a friend or family member who knows a bit more about computers to fix this for you.
They should try the following instructions.
Uninstall your existing copy of iTunes. Delete any copies of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer files from your downloads areas for your web browsers and download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
(The current build of the 11.1.4.62 installer was changed a few days ago, which fixed the bulk of the reports of MSVCR80.dll/R6034/APSDaemon.exe/Error-7/AMDS-could-not-start trouble ... but the build number on the installer was not changed. So we're trying to make sure you do the reinstall using a "new good" 11.1.4.62 installer instead of an "old bad".)
Does the install with the new copy of the installer go through properly? If so, does that clear up the error message?
If you still have the same error messages cropping up, then try the procedures from the following user tip:

  • Can Apple Store download update for 3G?

I've tried everything to download the iOS 4.0 update for my iPhone 3G, I was wondering if I go to the Apple Store, if they maybe could download the update for me, does anybody think that they would do that or should I just wait it out until this issue is resolved?

  • Can apple put an update for ipod 6th generation so that it gives better quality sound?

I have an ipod 6th generation and i have heard a lot about apple's popular white earphones. The problem is that my ipod don't give enough volume to enjoy music from those white earphones. Can apple bring something new in their updates to fix this issue???
    HELP !!!

You must realize that the quality of sound has been compromised by the very fact of compression and equipment. You are never likely to experience the nature of a live event by listening on an iPod. The best solution is to get a better quality of earbuds/ earphones/ headphones to improve the playback experience. The higher quality headphones such as Bose, Sennheiser, Sony have capabilities to counter ambient interference ( Bose noise-cancelling for example), and they have a better quality speaker than the Apple earbuds. This standard issue bit of kit is more of a courtesy to iPod buyers so that they will have something right out of the box in order to listen to their music but they are not the highest audio quality. The best audio quality will cost every bit as much as, or even more than, the cost of an iPod. As for turning up the volume, that is a foolish undertaking that can have long-term consequences on your hearing. Tinnitus cannot be cured! You will live with it unto your last days.

is Apple planning for an update for Yosemite soon that will include AirPlay feature

Found on another thread: Is iPhoto deleted by the 10.10.3 update ?
"right-click on iPhoto and show package contents, go in to Contents, and in to the MacOS folder and double click the iPhoto app from there... it launches just fine!"
    Works for me too.

  • Apple releases Java update for Mac OS X Tiger

Apple released J2SE 5.0 Release 4 on Tuesday, an update for Mac OS X 10.4.5 Tiger users. According to notes provided with the update the release delivers improved reliability and compatibility for the Java 2 Platform Standard Edition 5.0. With today's release J2SE 5.0 becomes the preferred Java version, superseding Java 1.4.2. Apple notes that Java 1.4.2 is still installed on the machine, but applications will run with J2SE 5.0 unless they specifically request Java 1.4.2. The update is available as a download from Apple's Web site

  • Apple announcements, holding breath for Blu Ray component?

Do any of you do like I do and hold your breath each time there is a big Apple new product announcement, that one will be to upgrade DVDSP to handle Blu Rays??
It seems so weird that they have opted to wait for the next 'generation' of media, whatever that will be.

The poll seems to show, no big loss to not having Blu Ray capacity from Apple. I guess we all have given up and moved on. Too bad, and yes I am burning Blu Rays from HD QT files with Toast. DVDs are just an adequate quality media, and
rank right up there with the 'quality' of HD being crammed into the internet pipeline. Oh well, quess I'll just have to be happy with what I have.
    Thanks for your responses.

  • I cant download the apple loops and updates for garageband. It keeps saying error occurred while downloading the updates (102). I dont know what to do?

my macbook 13" i just got in. Says i need to update and download the apple loops.
    Error 102 keeps coming up.
Ive tried restarting the computer and everything...and i have the internet pages closed and have full internet reception.
    HELP???

It might be a transitory problem with too much traffic at the AppStore. Try again later.
Or you may have firewalls or Antivirus filters interfering, or other non-standard start-up items and preferences panes. If the error persists, boot into Safe Mode and try to update in this mode, see:
Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
This will prevent non-standard start-up items, kernel extensions, etc from being loaded and interfering.
