Apple announces iPhoto to be discontinued...

So Apple is dumping Aperture and iPhoto for some Photos OS thing on the iCloud.  Well my Mom has like a gazillion photos all painstakingly categorized and keyworded and the last thing in the world she wants to do with them is put them in the cloud... let alone lose all that work she's put into keywording them.  This news really came as a big let down.  To all you iPhoto users out there... don't put that much effort into it... Apple is just going to replace it anyways.

So Apple is dumping Aperture and iPhoto for some Photos OS thing on the iCloud.
That's not quite what the statement says. There will be the ability to transition to the new app, so existing work will not be lost and nowhere does it say that you must store the photos in the Cloud, but rather that this is an opportunity, if you wish.
So, rather than gloomily spreading doom, why not wait and see what actually turns up?

Has Apple announced that power search in iTunes has been discontinued?
I don't know how to search for specific music as it is now. I have tried
    everything I know, without success.

I agree that reinstalling the OS each time is not an acceptable way to deal with this issue if it continues to be reoccurring. It will be awhile before I know if this solved the issue long term for me.
The Apple TV uses hardware and software that has to wirelessly interact with the computer OS and iTunes so there are many areas that can cause the problem and it may not be the same for everyone experiencing this problem.
Apple Product Specialists can elevate issues to the Apple Engineers if they are unable to solve it and enough users call Apple Care to complain. I have seen very few people on the Apple message board talk about having addressed any issue with Apple. If Apple Care covers your computer be sure that Apple is aware of your issue, which will increase the likely hood it will be addressed at a higher level.

I have an old Apple ID associated with a discontinued e-mail address.  It keeps popping up when I try to update apps.  I don't remember the password.  When I try to change it by security questions, it rejects my birthdate!  I can't change it by e-mail because I no longer have access to the e-mail.  All I really want to do is cancel this old ID.  How can I do this?  Obviously, I have a new ID, since I am using this support community.

You'll have to contact iTunes store support to see if they can help you with this: http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html.

Do you mean trying to purchase an iPhoto book?  Try rebooting and ordering again.  If that fails Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try ordering from there.

  • Integration with Apple's iPhoto

I create a lot of personal items with InDesign, as well as commercial ones. With my personal ones especially, I would really like a way to select photos that are stored in Apple's iPhoto, something very similar to Apple's Media Browser found in Apple's apps. Heck! Just put the Media Browser in ID.
I know, Adobe made something called the Mini Bridge in ID; but, I am so familiar with Apple's interface and like it so much better, I would really like it to look like Apple's browser. Also, the Mini Bridge does not really link to iPhoto. If I browse to the iPhoto library in Mini Bridge and double-click in the iPhoto library, iPhoto opens, instead of showing me the photos in the app.
I know Adobe is loathe to present a Mac-only feature; but, they should get over that. They could do something similar on the PC, say, with a direct link to the PC's Pictures folder.

    I don't know about iPhoto, but ...

... I have seen a demonstration from Kinect on regular Windows computers. What if Adobe added a nifty "Kinect-only" feature to InDesign, say, something like Minority Report shuffling of objects -- and the 'similar' function for Mac users would be,  "well, you can't do that but you can toggle the layers on the top off and then move selected objects with the mouse and then toggle the layers on again as a workaround"?
Platform-independency is good -- if only because it diminishes the chance of odd OS related bugs. (Remember those? Back in the days, when there were separate fora for Windows and Mac?)
But of course, there is nothing against a 3rd party (Mac-only) plugin that'd integrate iPhoto; that would be, by definition, only useful for Mac users.

  • After editing a RAW photo in PE13 (my External Editor) sent from Apple's iPhoto, I can not reimport the edited photo bank into my iPhoto library. The "Import to Library" command is greyed out. This was not the case before the latest PE13 RAW update versio

After editing a RAW photo in PE13 (my External Editor) originally sent from Apple's iPhoto, I can not reimport the edited photo back into my iPhoto library. The
"Import to Library" command is greyed out. This was not the case until the latest PE13 update (Camera Raw Version 8.7.1.311). What needs to be done
to reimport edited photos back into my iPhoto library? Ideas?

Launch PSE Expert Mode and go to:
Photoshop Elements Editor >> Preferences >> Saving Files (tab)
    Set the drop-down dialog
On First Save : Save Over Current File
    Click OK.
When you have finished editing in PSE use Cmd+S to save (not Save As)

  • Why "Announcement: iPhoto update 7.0.1 available now" in iPhoto '08 forum?

Why is the "Announcement: iPhoto update 7.0.1 available now" in iPhoto '08 forum?

    good question.
Here we have the iPhoto 08 forum. But if you look at the About iPhoto listing (iPhoto Menu -> About iPhoto), you'll see that what we have is iPhoto 08 (version 7).
Clear? How about, iPhoto 08 is version 7 of iPhoto. See? That's not confusing in the least.
But that's why the announcement is there.

  • I purchased a MACBOOK PRO  oneweek before apple announced the new editions

I purchased a MACBOOK PRO just oneweek before apple announced the new editions to the product.  I paid full price for a product that  became out of date the week after the purchase and feel very strongly that the use of the Apple online store should protect me from such poor information.  If you are planning a major upgrade to a product momentarily, PLEASE inform those buying online so they can delay for a few days for the better system.
I don’t know what options I have but would like to return this macbook for the current system.
    Thanks

    What absolute rubbish.
They we're just updated 4 months ago.
Where & when did this "Announcement" by Apple take place?
    ......exactly.

  • Europeans claim that Apple announced it will no longer support Aperture after December of 2014. Is there any truth to that?

Two of my European friends who use Apple products extensively, and Aperture exclusively for their photography needs, have just told me that Apple in Europe announced they will no longer support Aperture after December 31, 2014. They are quite stressed over it. My question is simply this:"Is there any truth to this rumour, and does it effect us here in North America?" If so, is there any new product from Apple or a third-party group to replace Aperture?
Just curious, as I would hate to give up my many huge Aperture libraries and transition to some other solution.
    Thanks,
    ....Tahunga

Apple has announced, that it will stop the further development of Aperture. It will be updated to work with the new MacOS X version Yosemity, but then there will be no newer versions.  The new Photos.app to come with Yosemity will be the successor for both Aperture and iPhoto.
See for example this page:   Aperture is Dead. Long Live Photos! | ApertureExpert

Do you mean photostream. What have you done and what problems are you having.

  • Why did apple take iPhoto?

Okay, last years "Big Thing" was iOS 7 and the iPhone 5 series. They gave us iPhoto, iMovie, Pages, you get the gist.
Now a year later they take back iPhoto. What gives?  Is there a reason for this not working with iOS 8?  I lost family videos I made in the phone and never got them over to my Mac before updating.  Yea my mistake, just ticked that they took this feature from us.

Understood, but that seems kludgy and seems to fly in the face of the entire Apple "simplify" philosophy.  There's no reason for Apple to drop a standard that encompasses billions of existing files.  The whole point of MacOS and iOS is that they just work.

  • How do I send a bug report to Apple about iPhoto?

    1) Okay this is probably very basic but I'm trying to find a way to send a bug report to Apple about the problems I'm having with iPhoto and PE since downloading Quicktime 7.1.3.
    Can anyone help?
    2) Is there any way of finding out if Apple are onto this problem with Quicktime 7.1.3?
    3) I've also asked on another thread how I can uninstall Quicktime 7.1.3 and re-install 7.1.2. (the reinstaller for 7.0.4 doesn't work on my computer) but so far I haven't got a reply.

    (1) While running iPhoto, click on the "iPhoto" menu and select "Provide iPhoto Feedback".

  • Printing hardbound books (like Apple's iPhoto books) from Pages docs

I've printed a few hardbound books of photos from iPhoto and have been pleased with the results, particularly those from iPhoto 6.
Recently, I used Pages to lay out a book of photos, game scores, and some text for my son's baseball team. The original idea was to take the pdf file to the local Kinko's and have it printed and bound with transparent covers and plastic ring thing. But Kinko's proved unable to print my full-bleed pages, and the quality of the prints turned out to be worse than I could do with my Canon iP8600 printer at home!
Faced with the task of printing 20 copies of this 24-page book at home, I'm now wondering...can Pages documents (or pdfs) be printed by Apple's book service? If not directly, can I import the pdf file into iPhoto and print each page as a single full-bleed 'photo' using one of the iPhoto templates? I'd have to redo the layout of the Pages book to fit iPhoto's template dimensions, and that would be a LOT of additional work, so I'd like to know beforehand if it is technically possible to print the book in this manner and if Apple would obect to my doing this.
And if none of the above is possible, is there some printing service out there that would accept a pdf file from Pages and print it as a hardbound book similar to Apple's for a reasonable cost?
    Thanks!

No, kinko's does not do hardbound books, at least not here in Japan. All they offer is simple binding of loose pages. Options include plastic spiral-like binding, staples, plastic covers, and basic glue/cloth tape. Papers are whatever you bring in or whatever you print on at the shop. Results are adequate for reports and such, but not for long-term archival purposes or gifts.
As for my own book project, I ended up printing 19 copies on my 8-ink Canon printer using fairly high quality duplex paper. Took several days -- mostly because of the need to buy and install new ink cartridges every few hours (took far more ink than I had expected). The results were far better than could be done on Kinko's printers, but the cheap (not really!!) bindings did not leave a good impression. Moreover, adding the binding cost to the cost of the paper and ink brought the price of each book to over $30 -- more than it would have cost to use Apple's service.
Just after printing and binding these books, I created a 100-page iPhoto book of vacation photos. Book came back in about a week and looked superb. Showed it to the coaches -- the ones who work for printing companies -- and they were quite impressed. Still don't know why they resisted going this route for the baseball book.
Next time, if there IS a next time, I will insist upon using Apple's service.

  • Apple TV iPhoto slideshow

Setting up my slideshow I adjusted the length of time per slide to 8 seconds in iPhoto but it seemed to default to 5 seconds when played on the Apple TV. Under photo settings in Apple TV I couldn't find a setting adjustment for time of slide.
Also, the custom songs I selected didn't pass through from iPhoto to Apple TV. Any ideas?

I was in the exact same boat.  Plugged in via USB, I couldn't get anything to work.  Then, I noticed that the HP Software including HP scan pro and the like worked.
Using HP scan pro, my unreachable scanner began scanning.
Try downloading the HP software for the printer.  Check for updates.  Mine is working under Lion 10.7

  • Update Unavailable with the Apple ID - iPhoto

Since the minute I downloaded the new OS X Mavericks 10.9 my iPHOTO app on my iMAC has a white line through it and is not compatible. Then EVERY time I try to update it in the app store I get the same message that many others have received --->
Update Unavailable with This Apple ID
This update is for an app downloaded with a different Apple ID.
Sign in with that Apple ID and try again.
The iPhoto software came pre-installed on my iMac when I purchased it new in 2010 directly from the Apple store, so it was NEVER purchased or updated with a different Apple ID. And no one else has access to my account or my computer. I’ve never changed it my id. I started with Snow Leopard and have done all the operating system updates though now and iPhoto has always worked fine...until now. I have tried EVERY remedy posted on the support community thread and others, short of starting over and wiping my iMac clean. I was on the phone with 2 Apple advisors and a senior tech yesterday for 3 hours and no one could find a solution other than some apparent 24 hour self fix that some people are experiencing. Apple is supposed to call me back today to see if it magically fixed itself. Anybody else find any better solutions other than dropping my iMac off the top of a building?
On a side note...(even though I know they stopped updating it) my iWeb app, which I still have all my websites created on, is now not functioning correctly. The writing/ words on any particular web page within the app are all scrunched together. Again, even through all the operating system updates, iWeb has always worked fine...until now.
Thinking of backing up, wiping clean and going back to Mountain Lion...so far I'm not impressed with Mavericks.
Any help or other suggestions with this problem would be appreciated.

    FOUND A SOLUTION:
After 9 days back and forth with Apple and their senior advisors I finally spoke with one that was very helpful and would not quit until we resolved the problem. I tried EVERYTHING recommended on this thread and others, and NOTHING worked. The only solution right now is to have Apple Tech Support Senior Advisors contact iTunes to have them reset your App account. What FINALLY worked was:
-backing up my computer to an ext hard drive
-deleting iPhoto (drag it from the app folder to the trash) (Your iphoto home folder should still be saved in YOUR finder folder.)
    -empty the trash
-At this point, sign out of the App store and then back in. If you see that you are able to purchase or upgrade at this point then go for it. IF NOT, then you have to go further as did I, b/c the App Store still would not let me upgrade, download or even purchase iPhoto.
-Then the senior advisor had to get iTunes to reset my app store app from thier end.
-After they did that, the senior advisor provided me with a redemption code for the latest version of iPhoto that I typed into the REDEEM section of the app store.
-Then it downloaded and works just fine now.
So the problem seemed to be on the iTunes / App Store end of things. After the App tech was able to get iTunes techs to "reset" my account (log in, passwords and info stayed the same) everything went very smoothly.
It also has to do with people who purchased iMacs or Macbooks before the Mac App Store was introduced...or right around the same time it was. These legacy members who had the pre-install app DVD were not syncing up corerectly with the MAS and iTunes. Until they get the MAS and iTunes synced up and recogignizing the pre-install apps and software, this will continue to be a problem.
