Apple application fails to launch/quits

These steps are generic and should resolve most MAC OSX issues
3 Scenarios
It caused by particular files?
if so rebuild the data base
. These include iphoto itunes mail address book, how you re build differs but it means re ceating a new library from the original content.
Does it happen in a New user account?
if so
removie / move ~Library/Preferences/com.apple.(name of application quitting).plist
should resolve the issue
it is worth trying as a last result
quit EVERY APPLICATION
and remove all login items that are suspect
move ~Library/Preferences (you may only be able to move the contents)to your desktop
and trash the contents of ~Library/Preferences afterwards
log in then out
LAUNCH ONLY THE APPLICATION AFFECTED
if its ok and lanches ok and works 100%
move the contents from the preferences folder on the desktop to the one in the default location
MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE DO NOT REPLACE

finally if it affects a new user account.
trash
/Library/Caches
~Library/Caches
trash
/Applications/iPhoto
/Library/Receipts/(name of application)**.pkg (you may have multiple .pkgs trash any with the name of the app at the start at the start
Restart MAC
reinstall the application from the install dvd.
if the issue still persists, check your login items for suspect items repair disk permissions and verify disk and check s.m.a.r.t status or even safe boot to isolate further
after all this try backing up and performing and Archive and Install making sure there are no networking elements or external hardware connected that could be related

  • Non Apple applications fails to launch

    Hello,
Today, when I launched MS Word or other non-apple application (like Indesign 2), I've got the following error :
The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "5<Microsoft Word><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_LaunchServices>"
I tried to repair the disk autorization with the disk utility, and I also launched Onyx to reinitialize other system parameters.
I tried to reinstall the Tiger Update 10.4.8 (combo) but it failed..
Does anyone have a solution ? the other Apple Apps work fine (the iApps, mail, safari, etc..)
Thansk in advance for your help !!!

Archive and Install will install a new System but save your Users, network settings, and third party applications, and put your old System in a folder named Previous System. You might want to reinstall plugins rather than to retrieve them from the Previous System. You also might have to reinstall some third party applications if they don't work after the Archive and Install.

  • Mail application fails to launch

The Mail application fails to launch on my iMac(late09 model/latest Lion loaded) and gives me this message - can anyone advise as to what I can do? I have already reinstalled the iMac Applications Install DVD to no avail.
    Thanks
    Baffled of Surrey, UK!!

    Hi ...
    Might be corrupted preferences ...
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.mail.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Try launching Mail. If that helped, move that .plist file to the Trash. If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.
    latest Lion loaded
With Lion 10.7 installed, apps can only be reinstalled using Lion Recovery.  Not from your install disc.

  • APP-V 5 SP1 - "Application Failed to Launch. This may be due to a network failure 0x0FD01B25-0000007B"

Hello all,I am having some issues with APP-V 5.
I am having particular issues with starting a packaged SIMS.net. I keep recieving:
"Application Failed to Launch. This may be due to a network failure 0x0FD01B25-0000007B"
...within a second or two of clicking on the app-v created shortcut for this software.
To clarify, I had this software working perfectly previously. I recreated this package due to a software update, but it fails to launch now. I started a new package from scratch as this is a complex piece of software with multiple installers to run etc.
To be honest, I keep seeing this error on other applications. At one point, nearly every published app returned the same error. I spent a day trying to diagnose but the following day, everything mysteriously started working again.
I have had a look on kirks blog & Tim Magan, but to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is a 'business critical application' (as they say).
    Quick overview of my setup:
    - Single Server configuration (Management, Publishing & SQL) on Server 2012 VM in 2012 Hyper-V
    - Win 2000 Domain with 2003 DC
    - Windows 7 Enterprise SP1
    - SIMS.net Summer 2013 sequenced on 32bit following best practice guide
    - Deploying to 32 bit machine
    - Client settings pushed by GPO. Powershell execution policy set to allsigned.

RESOLVED: This error is caused by the "Program Files" missing from the "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\" folder.
Firstly, a big thank you Nicke. You may not have solved the problem, but you sent me down the road to resolve this issue.
After trying the step you mentioned, I placed the computer in an OU with inheritance disabled. From this point onwards, I deduced that it was actually a group policy issue.
In my environment, I redirect start menus to generated start menu. This is created using a powershell script to combine locally installed items and network items. This scripts deletes the content of the 'programdata' start menu (i.e all users start menu)
to prevent these items disrupting the start menu.
Now... The app-v packages were breaking because, the 'Start Menu > Programs' folder did not exist. If an empty 'Start Menu > Programs' exists, the packages work correctly.
I can only assume that the two packages that were working correctly - that I installed these for 'current user only', rather than 'all users'.
It seems a little silly to me that app-v should fall over for something so simple. However, you could argue that it serves me right for playing about with system files :)
    Thanks again for the help.

  • Non-Apple applications won't launch

On Intel iMac, recently many non-Apple applications won't launch, including Photoshop, Indesign, Quicken, Filemaker, Techtool Pro. On the other hand, Mail, Safari, iPhoto, iTunes, Pixadex, Ultralingua all launch just fine. The non-launchers quickly present the window with Ignore, Report..., Relaunch; and using Relaunch just brings the window up again.
I've tried Disk Utility, both from the drive and from the OSX install disk; Time Machine back to just before the problem started; removed .plist file from Preferences: all to no avail.
While this problem started one week ago, we have had a new iPhone 3G since July 12 (since I see a few discussions with the same error codes related to iPhone).
Below are the error reports for Photoshop and Filemaker, and some system info.
What can I do to fix this? Thanks!

No idea what caused it, but your PPC emulator is definitely hosed and doing a clean installation would probably be less time consuming than figuring out what the problem is.
This is also all very old software that was never meant to run in Leopard at all, so you should consider the possibility that some of it will simply never work.

  • Music application fails to launch

Music application fails to launch. When music app selected I get a blank screen and after about 20 secs it returns to the home page. According to settings all my musuic files are there. I did a restore and it seemed to restore it at frist but was very slow responding. I powered the unit down and when it restarted the music app would again fail to launch. I have s 32GB iPod with about 4-5 gb free. Any suggestions?

Try restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPOd. Not from backup.  The sync a couple of songs and try and then add more songs incrementaly.

  • App-V 5 The application failed to launch 0x0FD01B25

    Hello,
I have App-V 5 deployed on a RDS Host Server (Windows Server 2008 R2). I have streamed one app to test (Google Chrome). The app loads and runs perfectly with the Administrator account, however when any user tried to load it, they receive:
The application failed to launch. This may be due to a network failure. Error code 0x0FD01B25-00000005.
In the event log this error is logged:
Process 15780 failed to start due to Virtual Filesystem subsystem failure. Package ID {fda69bb7-10bb-4cef-9ba3-480ca2260d0c}. Version ID {3b8dff55-f8fb-41dc-825c-60a419507543}. Error: 0xFD01B25-0x5
The user has read access to the network share containing the appv file (not sure if that is actually required). Ive tried making them a local admin on the RDS box without success.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you.
    Ben

    Hi Dimanche,
When you say you fixed permissions on the share, what do you mean?  Our share is everyone Full Control, but is secured via NTFS permissions (Admins and System full control).  The OS makes the profile folder and assigns the appropriate permissions.
I have the same App-V issue.  If I disable folder redirection, it works fine.  With Folder redirection enabled to a network path it fails with the same error code mentioned above. Users can create folders within the redirected Appdata, and
all other apps are working fine with roaming profiles...
This Microsoft\AppV\Client\VFS folders etc. etc. are also created successfully under Roaming Appdata fine...
My only thought is adding Creator Owner = Full, Everyone = List folder contents (this folder only) etc as per
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/274443?wa=wsignin1.0
In a previous environment I had another similar issue with MS Office accessing NTFS permissions - although the User had sufficient permisssions, the root folder permissions were too restrictive - when the Office app accessed the root folder (before the user
    path), it failed.

  • Multiple Applications failing to launch in Mac OSX Mavericks

    Hi there,
I recently updated my Mac Pro to Mac OSX Mavericks (OS X 10.9.2), and since that time, I have experienced multiple applications in my Adobe CC Subscription failing to launch. As a first step, I attempted to uninstall the applications so that I could reinstall them and see if that fixed the problem. However, when I go to uninstall the applications, I get the same message (crash report) that I get when I attempt to launch them, so I'm unable to uninstall the applications.
I'm not sure what the protocal is, or where I can send the crash reports to get a better idea of what is going wrong. Below I've listed a series of applications that are failing to launch, then the applications that are launching and running perfectly fine, along with some information about the computer I'm running on to see if the hardware might be out-of-date and adding to the problem.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer and I look forward to hearing from anyone that could provide some insight!
Applications that are Crashing (all are CC versions):
    Photoshop
    Prelude
    Audition
    Speedgrade
    Dreamweaver
    InDesign
    Illustrator
    Firework
    Flash Builder
    Flash
    InCopy
    Adobe Acrobat Pro
Applications that are Working (all are CC versions):
    Premiere Pro
    Bridge
    Lightroom 5.4
    Adobe Media Encoder
    Scout
    Muse
About the Mac I'm working on:

  • TS1702 all non-Apple apps fail to launch on my iPad

Suddenly all the non-Apple apps will not launch on my iPad (examples: Words with Friends; games; Trip Advisor; magazines, newspapers etc).  Tapping on icon causes the screen to darken for a second, like it is about to launch, and then it crashes back to the home screen.  Apple apps work fine.
All apps and operating system are up to date.  I have hard re-started the iPad twice.

Try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.

  • JVM will not load completely; application fails to launch.

    Hello everyone,
I am facing a rather strange problem -
I am trying to launch a Java (Swing) application installed on a Windows Vista box. When I run the application, nothing happens. Then I tried launching the jar file on the command line using the java -verbose command to see if I could get more info. I could see the files being loaded, e.g
    +[Loaded java.lang.Object from shared objects file]+
    +[Loaded java.io.Serializable from shared objects file]+
    +[Loaded java.lang.Comparable from shared objects file]+
    +[Loaded java.lang.CharSequence from shared objects file]+
    +[Loaded java.lang.String from shared objects file]+
    +[Loaded java.lang.reflect.GenericDeclaration from shared objects file]+
    +[Loaded java.lang.reflect.Type from shared objects file]+
    +[Loaded java.lang.reflect.AnnotatedElement from shared objects file]+
    +[Loaded java.lang.Class from shared objects file]+
    +[Loaded java.lang.Cloneable from shared objects file]+
    +[Loaded java.lang.ClassLoader from shared objects file]+
    +....+
    and so on.
The problem is that the VM just stops abruptly after running for a few seconds (with no exceptions), before it actually begins loading any application files.
Has anyone seen this behavior before? Any reason why this is happening?
I appreciate any help on this.
    Thanks! :)

You could try pressing Ctrl-Break to print out a stack trace of running threads, and examine or submit it to the application's developers.

  • Creative Cloud desktop application fails to launch

I'm trying to install photoshop on my macbook, however, the Creative Cloud desktop client won't launch. It opens for a few seconds then shuts down with no error message. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but same thing happens. When I login in online, and try to install Photoshop that way, again, the Desktop client launches then shuts down after a few seconds. Earlier this evening I accidently wiped my mac by deleting everything using Filezilla (:-/). Related? Do you know how I can fix it? Thank you!

Jlkj did you format and reinstall your operating system?  Are you attempting to recover from a back up?  If so did you only move over your documents and settings?  Finally what version of Mac OS are you using?

  • Apple works fails to launch

I just updated my mac to leopard and when I try to open appleworks 6 a window comes up giving me the option to ignore, report or relaunch. It will not relaunch so I reported it. What do I do to fix this.

Dragonslayer, Did you follow all of that about how to fix the problem? I lost Apple Works today and can not seem to get it back. I too upgraded to Leopard, but I did it a month ago and weird things keep happening out of the blue. I am really wishing I kept Panther and did not listen to all the hype about Leopard. I never had problems like these with Panther.

  • Most of the application fail to launch

After installing Mavericks, most of the applications on my computer couldn't not be opened.
I have no problem on the first few hours but after that lots of application that I have on my computer can't be open (eg. iMessage, FaceTime, Maps, Preview, App Store...)
Anyone have a solution on this problem or have similar problem?

Thought well, maybe they know by now and have sent out an update... which would be great if my app store opened.
Ive been die hard Mac for 5 years now. This is he first time I ever got f***ed.
So, I cant check email, cant see my calandar, I cant send and recieve messages... so what am I suposed to do now? I have a $3,000.00 Machine to play Portal 2 on? Wait... I should check if that works... Well, at least my GOOGLE Browser still works...

  • Application fails to launch

I'm experimenting with JWS using a simple HelloWorld application. If I clear the cache, the app shows that it is starting, however, after a short time (30 seconds) the window closes (without ever starting my app). If I run the app again, I get the Web Start splash screen for 10-15 seconds then it disappears. The HelloWorld app never seems to start. I have also added debug code to the start of the application but that code never seems to be invoked. And, I have uninstalled and re-installed JWS and the behaviour is the same.
I'm running on IIS, JRE 1.3, IE5.5, and NT4.0. I also tried running the app under Netscape and had the same problem.
Also, I can not get any of the demo apps to run successfully.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having the same problem...it seems that the JWS cannot load the JRE, even though the is set up properly and installed in the right place (and the config file for JWS points to the right place). I did notice that if I run "java -version" in cmd, I get a wierd error telling me that I have an invalid magic number...I don't know if this means the java installation is invalid, or what...
