Apple Apps Lose Network Connection

Strange happenings today. All my Apple Apps (itunes, iphoto, safari, etc) are not able to connect via my ethernet connection. All other non-Apple apps (Firefox, Office-Entourage) are having no problems. No recent updates or major changes. Everything worked yesterday.
Any ideas where to start troubleshooting would be much appreciated.

OK, I'll answer my own question, just in case this happens to you.
Looks like during an update, the "web proxy" box had been checked in the Network settings (System Prefs). Once this was unchecked, everything worked fine.

  • Apple TV loses WiFi Connectively After waking up from sleep

My Apple TV, software version 3.0.2 (which gives us 1080P btw), works fine, until I put it to "sleep." Later, when I use the Apple TV, it says: "Not connected to the Internet." In effect, my wifi has disappeared from the memory of the Apple TV, and I have to enter the wifi network's password again on the Apple TV.
I have had this Apple TV for about a year; the problem appeared maybe one month ago.
I took it to the Apple Store after Apple Care Telephone Support consulted with engineers. The Apple engineers said it could be a hardware problem, and for me to bring my Apple TV to the Apple Store so they could diagnose it. But at the Genius bar, they put it to sleep and woke it up and it never lost connectivity every time. I suggested that as the Apple Engineers wanted the hardware looked at, why doesn't the Apple Store keep my unit, put it to sleep, and wake it the next business day? The genius bar refused, as the problem did not replicate itself at the genius bar. I told them that trying after 10 minutes wasn't enough. They should try it overnight, as I do (go to bed, try it the next day, only to discover that the Apple TV lost it's connection to the WiFi.
So for now, my work-a-round is that after a few hours, I have to reenter the password for the wifi. I've been reading threads about similar issues with the iPad, but I don't know if the problems are related (technology wise).
Bottom line: My Apple TV loses its connectivity after being in sleep mode for awhile. Nothing to do with the iTunes store or 3.0.2 as far as I can determine; if I don't put it to sleep I don't lose connectivity.

Thank you, Jamie Cox1. However, after rebooting the Apple TV, I lose my 1080P; it goes to 720P and takes about 5 minutes or so to reboot. Then I have to set the 1080P again. The good news is that the wifi returns But it is quicker merely to re-enter my password.
The problem remains: After a while of having the Apple TV in sleep mode, I lose connectivity to my wifi And while I have a complicated password (upper and lower case letters, numbers, and not a dictionary word), it still is quicker to re-enter my password than to wait for the Apple TV to reboot and re-enter the settings for 1080P.
Thanks anyway; if I only had 720P perhaps this solution might be enough - but I have 1080P.
I am working with Apple Care; I have reconfigured my wifi twice with Airport Utility, removed all interference (microwaves, cordless phones), and still the problem remains. Apple Care hasn't solved the problem. The Genius Bar at the Apple Store hasn't solved the problem. Re-booting does find the wifi again, but it takes a long time, and then I still have to re-set the resolution to 1080P. So I just re-enter my password each time.
And that's my update! I appreciate everyone's suggestions. However, the problem remains: after putting the Apple TV in sleep mode, and then later when I want to use the Apple TV, the Apple TV forgets that it is connected to wifi and I have to re-enter my password, or I can take some time and reboot the Apple TV but then while the wifi returns, the 1080P disappears.
Thank you everyone for all your suggestions
    But the problem remains

  • E4200 - Plug in external USB drive & lose network connection

Hi - I have the Linksys E4200 [version 1] and my wireless network is set up and configured. I'm browsing with no issues.  Within Linksys setup, FTP & UPnP are enabled.  I have a 500GB Toshiba external USB [2.0] hard drive [E05A050DAU2XM].  When I connect it to the E4200 the data light on the modem goes off within 10-20 seconds & I lose network connection.  I've tried leaving the drive plugged in and rebooting either/both the cable modem and the router but network connection is not restored until I disconnect the drive & power cycle the router.  Not sure what is happening.  The modem is a Cisco DPC3010 DOCSIS 3.0.  I should also say that this was happening with, I believe, firmware version 1.0.01.  I updated to Ver.1.0.06 (build 3) & the issue is still occurring.  Thanks so much for anyone who could lend their advice!

It maybe a drive size problem that maybe the problem and not compatible. If a smaller size drive works and the larger does not. then this could be the issue. I don't recommend any drives over 500Gb to 1Tb on the USB. The larger the drives are the more problematic the issues can be and should a drive become full, the longer processing of the information will be come and USB is not the best performance for handling large file xfers and should not be used like dedicated NAS.Some routers are just not compatible with large size USB drives. If you need a large size drive for files and streaming, a dedicated NAS device would be suggested and prefered over USB drives.

  • T440 + USB 3.0 Dock = Loses network connection

Our company is in the process of upgrading all our Windows 7 clients (x200) to Windows 8.1, but have run into a strange issue on our new Lenovo ThinkPad T440 PC's. They seem to lose network connection shortly now and then.
This results in several issues like:
    - Office 2013 programs crash when working witt documents on the network. (Outlook 2013 crashes if using .pst archive files on network shares.)
    - Printers are displayed as unavailable. (Need to restart Print spooler, before it realises that the connection has been reestablished)
We are using ThinkPad 3.0 USB docks, if these might be the cuase?
The eventviewer is pretty silent in most cases when users experience the connection loss, but can the following 3 messages tell anything?
    - The speed of processor 3 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report.
    - The user account is in a different forest than the computer account. The processing of Group Policy from another forest is not allowed. Group Policy will be processed using Loopback Replace mode. The scope of the user policy settings will be determined by the location of the computer object in Active Directory. The settings will be acquired from the User Configuration of these policies.

You guys have any ideas what I might try?

Working for DisplayLink, I would recommend v7.2, as it fixes a number of end user issues that were coming up on previous 7.x versions.
The lid can be closed, but usually the laptop will be configured to go to sleep when the lid is closed. This can be changed in the Windows settings. We have an article on how to do this here.
V7.2 includes a completely new Ethernet driver, which was designed to try and improve speed and reliability. After upgrade it might be worth removing all cables from the dock, power cycling it and replugging, just to make sure it is updated correctly.
We know of an issue that can cause a slow upload speed with some host controllers (ironically we turned on a change to try and improve Ethernet speed, but seems to have problems when used with some PC host controllers) and I wonder if this is the issue you are seeing.
We have a fix for this in our next 7.2 maintenance release which will be available in the next month or so.

  • Why does my apple tv 2 lose network connectivity?

I've searched on this topic for a while and have not found an answer as to why I keep losing network connectivity.  After owning my apple tv for almost a year it started losing network connectivity.  At first like many others it just required me to re-enter my network information.  Now however the only solution is to restore the apple tv downloading the latest OS.  I first believed this was due to its IP address expiring and the apple tv not acquiring a new address.  So I set a static IP address for the apple tv.  It worked for a few more days and then stopped working again.  Next I thought it was perhaps the actiontec router I have with my internet service so I added another router to fix this problem.  I first set the router up with my macbook and checked its connectivity (everything worked fine).  When I went back to the apple tv I had the same issue.  I selected the new network and entered the WEP password and received the 3902 error message.  I know now the only way it will work is if I restore the apple tv.  And I know at some point no matter what router I use it will stop working.  Because I've loaded various iterations of the OS I have to believe its a hardware issue.  And unfortunately when I finally discovered this problem my 1 year warrant expired so I'm SOL.  Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is occurring?  I've read and tried the various "solutions" others have used for networking issues (static ip's, fixing the channel etc.) and nothing seems to work.  I have no means of hardwiring this thing so if no solution is found I will need to dump it for something else.  Worst apple experience I have had to date and it really leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Can you explain your thinking or if you have ideas on what it might be? I should not say its a hardware problem but I do believe it's the apple tv. I have friends with the same setup as me without problems. They have the same service provider, router (make, model) without any issues. And like I said it worked for almost a year. And the only fix is a restore of the apple tv. Rebooting the router, changing ip address assignment, fixing channel, downgrading to b or g from compatability mode has no affect.

  • IPhone 6 64g on AT&T loses network connection

My iphone seems to have trouble reconnecting to the att network after being in a place with bad reception, ie metro tunnel or grocery store. to regain network connection I either have to turn airplane mode on and off or restart the phone. anyone else have this problem?

I have the same issue with my Iphone 5 on ATT. It is a hardware issue with the Iphone 5 antenna. I took my wife's Iphone 5 and my Iphone 5, both on the same IOS version, and ran the exact same apps at the exact same time and mine took a big dump while hers kept running perfectly. Solution....1. Narrow down how to make it take a dump. For mine, I run a station on IHeartRadio, check Facebook, check my email, load a lengthy webpage, and send a Imessage in the middle of the page loading. My phone will drop connection EVERY time. 2. Make an appointment at apple. 3. Tell em the issue and let them goof around with it. 4. Every time they say they fixed it, stand right there and force it to lose data connection. 5. Eventually they will run out of cheap fixes and give you a new phone. 6. STAND THERE AND ATTEMPT TO FORCE IT TO LOSE CONNECTION. Do not leave yet!!!! Repeat steps 4 to 6 until you get a phone that does not lose connection. A friend of mine went through 8 phones before getting one that did not lose connection. I am making my appointment now, finally got tired of it crapping out 10 or more times a day.

  • My mid 2010 MacBook Pro loses network connectivity

I have four mac computers running on our home network.  My mid 2010 MacBook Pro has become notorious for losing network connectivity with the other computers.  It maintains it's internet connectivity consistently, but it's ability to see and connect with the other computers on the local network is finicky at best.  The other three computers (2008 iMac, 2012 iMac, 2012 MacBook Pro) all connect to our Actiontec MI424WR Fios router via ethernet, whereas the mid 2010 MacBook Pro connects via WiFi.
If anyone could please help me troubleshoot the issue, that'd be much appreciated.
    Sincerely.

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 5
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • Error msgs in app store; network connection could not be made

Anyone else having trouble downloading apps directly from the appstore on your iPhone or iPad?
50% of the apps do not want to download. The msg I will get is that there was a problem and it will be available for download next time I connect to iTunes. And I already paid for it
Connecting to iTunes on my iMac tonight there were updates available for apps, I clicked to download them and again about 50% of the apps will not download. I now get the error msg that that app blah blah blah could not be downloaded because a network connection could not be made. Even iBooks won't download. Others download fine.
The apps I purschased on my iPad or iPhone and that did not download are nowhere to be seen.
    Any insight?
    cheers,
    Christine

Just thought I would add that I did every test the help files suggest, no firewall etc.
Strange thing is that after the majority downloaded I had about 55 apps left that could not be updated because of the network connection that could not be made, I downloaded them manually instead of clicking 'yes please do download them all'.
I still came across a few that gave me the msg that an connection could not be made but when I skipped them and came back later to try again it did download. Took some time but I now have them all up to date.
Now see if I can sync the iPhone and iPad.
I run the latest iTunes 10.4.1 (10) and 10.6.8, have not updated to Lion yet.
    cheers,
    Christine

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium printer LOSES NETWORK connection daily

I've had my printer for a few years.  I've had no problems with it. Suddenly in the last week it refuses to maintain it's network connection.  It is WIRED.  It has a STATIC IP.  The router is set up to reserve this address for the printer.
I have uninstalled ALL HP software, downloaded the current versions and reinstalled.  It works fine.  If nothing is printed for a period of time (not sure the interval) it refuses to find the printer.
Powering off the printer will reset it to work fine.
    I've checked EVERYTHING.
There is one article about this happening on Windows XP and talks about changing the ink alert but I've tried following those instructions and I canNOT find anything it is talking about.
I verified that printer is using current firmware.
When it loses it's connection to the network the router can't see it either.
HELP.  It is most annoying to have people yelling at me all day to fix the printer.
NOTHING has changed on my printer set up.
The only changes to my network recently were installing 3 IP cameras and adding port forwarding for ports 2604, 2605 and 2606.  If that were causing an issue I'd expect it to NOT print at all.  After reboot it prints fine until it goes a period of time without printing theni t disappears from the network again.

Hello smsdavis, and welcome to the HP Forums.
I see you are running into connectivity issues.  I would like to try and help.
I would recommend powering down the computer and printer.  Once they are both off, remove the power cord from the wireless router for 60 seconds, and plug it back in.  After the router begins broadcasting, power on the printer and the computer.
I would also suggest utilizing this document on Wireless printing center Troubleshooting Issues.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V Host Loses Network Connectivity

    Here's the scenario...
We have two 2012 R2 Hyper-V hosts (VM1 and VM2) in a cluster that have 8 virtual machines that live on them. The servers are each utilizing three network connections that are teamed (Switch Independent, Address Hash).  They all go to the same switch.
Three nights ago at approximately 11:30 PM VM2 lost network connectivity. The server was up it was just inaccessible from the network. I could not ping in or out from it, no internet connection, yet the network connection icon did not show that it was
    disconnected.
Two nights ago we had no issues.
Last night, same thing happened at 11:30 PM. VM2 loses it network connection.
The only thing that seems to fix the issue is a reboot. Once the server comes back up everything is back to normal.
Anyone have any idea what is happening here? I do not see anything that sticks out in the logs that could point me in the right direction....

    Hi Sir,
Based on my experience , first you may need to keep the physical NIC driver up-to-date .
Also please check if there is "VMQ"/"virtual machine queue" property in advanced properties of physical NICs:
If yes please disable it for each team member then check the result .
    Best Regards,

  • Does using more than one apple tv affect network connection

    My AppleTV has upgraded.
Since then the network connection has been very fragile
I have restarted the apple tv, the tv, and all the devices.
I have also restarted the modem.
    Nothing is working.
I have two apple tvs; so i am now wondering whether having both of them working might affect the network connection.
Or is there any other reason for such a fragile connection?  and what can be done to get a more stable connection?

Yes. I've been doing this. We have a family HP laptop with 750 GB of storage that is our library. One TV in the Den and one in the Family Room. Both have AppleTV's. I've had no problem simultaneously streaming to each AppleTV from the library computer. They both are synced to that PC as well ... mainly for photos. I originally was using my existing wireless-g network and this worked well. I recently put in a couple of Airport extreme units and they work great in wireless-n but I'm not sure it was really necessary ... I just wanted the AppleTVs to be able to stream and sync at their max possible speeds to minimize the possibility of slowing down of our network. The Airport Extreme's may have been overkill but they work really well ... easy to setup and we've now got a very strong wireless signal all over the house. Are you considering multiple AppleTV's?
A nice benefit of multiple AppleTVS is that you always have a backup remote control in case the kids (or maybe I)get absent minded.
