Apple are working on the problem apparently..

Ok, so my replacement PB arrived this morning.
Same screen issue, and a completely dead battery too, along with the usual keyboard beeps when you type as mentioned in my previous topic on the General Forum. the light sabre noise is not present though, as this replacement has a Seagate drive rather than a Toshiba..
The higher level tech support person said that they can send out a new battery no problem, as they are aware of the issue, but she also said that if I took my PB to a repair centre they could fix the screen problem too. I asked if the repair centres had different screens to the shipped models and she said 'yes, we are aware of the problem and are working on it.' Whether that was in fact an answer to my question or not I don't know...sometimes these guys are a little hard to understand.
My argument is that I can't really do without my powerbook - my ibook isn't quite powerful enough and I need the portability. I also can't see a fix for this screen problem in the near future however, as there have only been one or two folks on here that say they have defect-free screens.
I suggested that I hang on to my PB, as currently sending out a replacement will just cost Apple as I don't think the problem will be fixed, and then in a few months time if PB's are rolling off the line with fully functioning screens we can arrange for a replacement then.
They weren't too keen on that idea, so we've gone for replacement number 3 right now (actually 4, as I had previously purchased a PB from a retail store too!)
So.. I'm just hoping against hope that I get a brand new unit that has a decent screen (and a battery that works!), or I have to make the decision as to whether I ask for a refund and do without my PB until I'm guaranteed a unit that works.
So far I can't fault Apple Customer service, although my opinion of the quality of the PB has taken a stark nosedive unfortunately.

I have found a free program called iBackupBot. I got it off of cnet.com. This program allowed me to look at all of my contacts, notes and photos from the so called "back up does not exist" error message. I was able to copy and print out the items, I have not backedup anything yet, I'm gonna try that in the morning. I wanted to get this link out to all of you who are having problems with missing data.     Along with rebooting your router and cable modem (unplug from the power source and wait about 30 seconds and plug in a again) you can try a couple of easy things.
    Go to Settings> WiFi > Turn off and then turn on again
    Go to Settings>WiFi>Your Network Name - tap the blue arrow and select Forget this network. Restart your iPad and see if it finds your network and enter your password again.
    Restart your iPad. Hold down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. Try to connect again.

    The nice thing about owning this overpriced POS is that Apple not only doesn't support it, but also doesn't want to hear about anything negative regarding it.  So I spoke to the so-called "support" people at Apple who successfully screwed up my contacts beyond repair.  I got a nice email from Apple asking me to rate the support I got.  I was actually civil and described the issue tactfully.  What do I get in return?  Nothing.  Not a damned thing!!  You're luck you've got me by the short hairs on a 2 year contract but I'm still tempted to throw this POS through the front window of the nearest Apple store!!  Not only will I be replacing this phone with a competitive product but I won't be buying anymore Apple crap.  I guess when you con 27 million people into believing your rhetoric and sales lies, you don't have to care whether some customers get screwed or not.  I'll be going back to Verizon and threatening legal action if they don't take this electronic dung heap back but I'm sure the teams of lawyers Apple and Verizon have on staff have insured that I have no rights in this matter and you're free to screw me anytime you please.  Sad.     You may have debris in your headphone jack blocking the sensor.  Try blowing hard on the jack, and inserting/removing your headphones quickly multiple times to clear it.

    If you double tap the home button, and then swipe your finger to the right, make sure you DO NOT have the Lock Orientation button enabled.
    You know it is disabled if there is no padlock in the middle of the icon.

All of a sudden without changing any settings, the audio on my NEW ipad cuts in and out on applications/ games, keypad noise and lock sounds. The rocker button only seems to work while the sound is intermittently being heard before, after a few seconds of noise not doing anything when sound goes off.
    This is highly frustrating as I've noticed others posting about such issues as far back as April. Anybody had the same thing happen to them? Is this likely software (ios6) or hardware issue? What are the solutions Apple???

    Apple has no physical stores of their own in Dubai, so unless you mean that you purchased from the online Apple Store for the UAE, you purchased from a dealer, who may or may not have been authorized. You can check the expiration date of the warranty on your iPad yourself by entering in the serial number here:

    If it does indeed show the warranty has expired, then what you need to do from here will depend on who you purchased the iPad from and when you really did purchase it. Perhaps you actually purchased it in August and are just misremembering? Check your receipt. If you confirm that you did purchase within the last calendar year, tell us exactly where you got it and we can probably offer advice.

    Are you seeing a similar message when launching QuickTime Player?
    What security software is installed on the computer? Have you tried testing in an admin account or after uninstalling tthe security software?

    Yes (if the external iSight works.)
    External iSights are great webcams, but they are getting old (as consumer electronics go) and some have had pretty rough treatment. You can test yours using the suggestions from this page:

    I suggest you disconnect other Firewire devices until you get your external iSight working with your mini.
    If you do not already have an external iSight and are considering buying one now,
    a new webcam (with warranty) may be a better choice.

    I suggest you disconnect other Firewire devices until you get external iSight working with your mini. Once iSight works when it is the only FW connected device, you can try connecting other Firewire devices to determine whehter you can use any of them without conflict.

    With your 10.6.3 mini, you can use QuickTime X, iChat, Photo Booth, iMovie, and some of the other apps that are installed with OS X. Your Mac's Help for each of these apps can tell you how to use them with iSight (or other connected cameras.)

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
    How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer                            
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Or it could simply have been sold by someone that didn't know enough to wipe it.
    You could check with the police, see if they have it listed as stolen.
    If you can get into the settings of that ipad you can 'erase all content and settings' and start fresh.

    Most apps are designed for both devices.  Some apps are only designed for the iPhone but will work on the iPad - when used on the iPad you get a small screen that looks like an iPhone (rotation etc... is also more restricted like an iPhone).  Some apps only work on the iPad which are specifically designed for the iPad screen real estate - I have a mariner navigation app like that - use it when crossing the Great Lakes on my sail boat.  When you go into the App Store you will note that you can search for iPhone apps or iPad apps.

    The only problem that you have to tackle is what happens when the same data is being updated in multiple locations at the same time. If that is not a possibility with you then p2p is a good choice. Check the above links you will have a better understanding.
