Apple?  Are you monitoring this?  We can't turn off our iPod Nanos.

I am reading from a few people, that all of a sudden, they can't shut off. Mine is 7 months old, and today I have this problem.
What is the resolution? Do I need to send this back to Apple?

I was going to post a request for help, but it looks like this is a known problem which Apple has not yet solved. So I'll just post a "me too".
Me too.
My nano (white 4gb model, ordered on 9/8/05 so it would be one of the very first batch out of the factory) will not turn off, not matter how long I hold down the play/pause button. It frequently pops up the "Firewire connection not supported" message, which will usually go away after pressing the select button a few times. Sometimes it will not reset, but usually will after 3 or 4 attempts.
I have done the 5Rs on my usual computer, tried restoring and then setting it up on a different computer, got it into diagnostic mode and run all the tests -- I think I've exhausted all the DIY avenues.
It sounds like a bug to me, but since Apple haven't come out with a software/firmware fix, I guess I will have to send it in for repair/replacement.

How can I turn off the Ipod 5g speaker so that it just plays through the headphones?

First make sure your headphones are plugged all the way in, meaning no silver from the headphones plug can still be seen.
If that's not the issue, try a hard reset of the Nano.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • How can i turn off my ipod?

ipod had turned off before, but now cannot turn it off. It continues to stay on. I've tried to use hold switch to see if that helps, but ipod still won't turn off, and it uses up my battery. Holding play/pause button on the click wheel doesn't seem to work anymore. Does anyone have an idea how I can turn off the ipod?

Try holding the MENU and SELECT (center) buttons until you see the Apple logo to reset it.
Then see if it will turn off.
    Cheers!

  • Can't turn off my ipod

suddenly I can't turn off my ippod and it's new. I tried resetting and even restored it. Only can be turned of if connected to the computer. Can somebody help?
    Thanks
    Rudy

sounds like it needs a full reset.
i've seen this where the nano hangs ok 'OK TO DISCONNECT' too.
toggle the LOCK key (on top) to ON and then back to OFF again.
then hold down the middle button (in the middle of the click wheel) whilst also pressing the top MENU button.
hold for approx 5-10 seconds and a small APPLE logo should appear, thus reseting the ipod.
NOTE: This will not cause loss to any music files.

  • Can't turn off my ipod, just keeps spinning and clicking

I have a 40GB click wheel ipod, about 1 year old. I just tried to update my playlist, but my computer couldn't recognise the ipod. I tried to reset it, but now all it says is "Disk mode, OK to disconnect", but the little hard drive keeps spinning and clicking and I can't turn it off. It doesn't matter if it is connected or not to the computer. Any help please? Thank you.

    Mary PS,
I had the same problem with my iPod, sad iPod icon/www.apple/support/ipod, and I tried many times to reset/restore, but nothing would work and the enitre time I could hear the hard drive cycling.....and I figured well hit it with a ball peen hammer cause it is going back to apple regardless....sure enough "whumped" it into the palm of my hand and I was able to reset/restore it......This can't be the answer, can it? Is there physical damage and that is why the hard drive was "cycling"? What does Apple recommend that I do?
    thanks

Which iPod do you actually have?
You are posting in the 5G, you say it's a 20GB iPod and you've had it for a year.

If it's teh iPod 5G video, press and release Pause, then wait ~30 seconds and press and hold Pause.

  • How can i turn off my ipod when it's frozen?

I was about to get on facebook and it froze. Its been 40 mins since its been frozen. What do I do?

    - Try:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try the article again.
    - If still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • APPLE -- are you listening? We can't burn CDs!

I have spent a lot of hours trying to burn an audio CD, to no avail. I just wondered if Apple had considered that people will refuse to buy music from iTunes if we can't burn audio CDs.
I'm desperately needing to burn ONE song onto a CD. I bought it from iTunes, but now I have to go and find the CD at a store somewhere. Do you suppose Apple will give me my money back?
    This is really frustrating!!!
(Oh,I've checked every help system Apple provides, in case you're wondering. Nothing works.)
    IBM Thinkpad   Windows XP

Did it all. Updated windows. Uninstalled iTunes and Quick Time. Cleaned out temp files, etc. Reinstalled iTunes and Quick Time. Changed burn speed to 4x. Used new discs of a different brand.
It ACTS like it is writing... goes through each song as if it is burning the CD. CD drive runs. Ends up showing the "finished" CD in the pane on the left in iTunes (just above the playlists.
However... the disc is still empty! Nothing on it when you look at it in "My Computer" or "iTunes" or Windows Media player. This is downright depressing. There is so much music... so little time!! Help!
I can import purchased CDs just fine, by the way.
Oh... and thanks for sticking with me on this. I know there are probably a fair number of people with the same problems...

  • Help, I can't turn off the Ipod

Since I installed 1.1.3, I have to either leave the Iphone on the charger or leave the Ipod playing. If the phone is idle and goes to sleep, the apple logo keeps flashing and the phone is useless. I plug it back to the charger and it's fine until the next time I forget to leave the Ipod on. This is frustrating because I have to carry the charger everywhere. Any ideas??????

  • Turn off an iPod configured with Apple Configurator and in supervise mode locked to one application.

I have configured an iPod touch using the Apple configurator. The iPod is set in supervisor mode and I have configured it to start one of our own apps. It works ok. But I can't turn off the iPod holding the on/off button as usual. I dont get the turn off slider. I can only turn the display off by clicking on the on/off button.
I want to be able to turn it off completely to save battery.

I wouldn't suggest going to get it yourself. You could find yourself in a situation you cannot get out of and could get hurt. Second, as stated before, it is more for misplaced or lost devices, not stolen devices. Many police agencies do not feel they have probable cause, just from your statement on a map location to justify attempts to recover the device. There have been many posts from others who have had devices stolen where the police will not confront someone based on that map location. I understand you are impacted by the theft, but this is what we have insurance for. To protect your content, from now on I suggest you put a passcode on the device. I hope you have changed all of the passwords for accounts you had on the device, since all of your content and data was accessible to the thief.

my Iphone 5(purchased in Jan 2013) has suddenly developed a multicolored hue in the center of the **** screen. it looks pathetic and totally whacked out. Its rainy and humid where I stay this time of the year. Apple guys are you reading this? does the management go through this website.? Hey Apple guys, can you replace my phone for me.Its so slippery and slides out very easily from my hands. I have owned smartphones before but yours is a real slimy slider. so while I was shooting pics in varanasi in march it fell out of my palm (it was drizzling) and the rear screen (the section next to the camera) kinda cracked real ugly and obviously due to this the camera is behaving kinda crazy too. can you guys help me out here.?

If your phone is defective (aside from the accidental damage) Apple will fix or replace the phone. You saud you purchased the phone in January so it is still under warranty.
If you have an Apple Store in your area, make a Genius Bar appointment.
