Apple AV Composite AV Cable Problems

I can not seem to use the Apple AV component cable to watch videos from my iPhone 4S onto my TV.
I have made all the right connections between the iPhone and TV, I believe. However, I was not able to watch any of my iPhone videos on my TV yet. The AV cable's Manual does mention to set "to send your ipod or iphone to send a video signal out to your TV" - which I do not know how to do on my iphone. I have not seen any "TV Out" setting on my iphone.

Settings > General > TV Out
This choice is visible only when your video cable is plugged into the dock connector of the iPhone.
In my case, I have to remove the bumper I have on the iPhone, since the video cable is a tiny bit wider than the normal dock connector cable.

  • Apple Branded Composite AV Cable (& iPhone 3GS)

    Hi There,
I'm attempting to use my iPhone 3GS (running OS 4.3.2) to watch movies through my TV, however I only get audio & no video.  I am using the authentic Apple Composite AV Cable, and have already made sure that my Settings are proper (as far as I have found).  I have gone Settings - iPod - TV Out - TV Signal - NTSC.
I have tried my 4th generation iPod with a video on it with these cables, and it works perfectly fine (both audio & video) - so I know the cables are not defective.
Is there anything I'm missing?!  Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I don't tend to use my iPod much since its only a 4gb, and rather use my 32gb iPhone to store my videos.
    Thanks ahead of time!

    Hello there....
Last week I tried to use my iphone 3gs to watch a video on my tv using the composite av cable and I got the annoying message: "This accessory is not optimized for this iphone.....".  I first checked my iphone connector and cleaned it out using compressed air (it was really dirty).  Tried the av cable again and still got the same message.  Called apple tech support and after about 4 hours, they recommended a few things.  After a restart, hard reset, and restore as new device....still not progress.
Finally, today I went to the apple store and the rep checked my iphone and said the it could be a problem with the iphone...but after testing one of their 3gs phones, he got the same message and no video....then asked him to check the iphone 4 whick worked fine.....
Apparently, the problem is with the OS and he could only suggest waiting for the next update and input the problem into the feedback page.....
Bottom line, your 3gs is not the problem....it is the OS.
Hope this helps someone out there since it took me about 5 days and a lot of frustration to figure out the problem.
The best thing to do is to report it to apple as much as possible so they can get going on a fix...

  • IPod Classic 80GB not recognizing Apple (genuine) Composite AV Cable

At the recommendation of a user on here, I tried using the MB129LL/B cable to connect my 80GB iPod Classic to my TV to watch videos on my TV that only has RCA jacks (no component jacks).
The audio worked, but the video did not.  While the audio from the video playing on my iPod came out of my TV crystal clear, the iPod simply displayed a screen saying "TV Out Enabled" and "Please Connect Video Accessory" under an image of the large, wide, pronged end of any cable that connects to the bottom of the iPod.
This is not the headphone jack cable that everyone says no longer works since Apple's change to prevent this.  I am using the one that is supposed to work still, and it is the genuine Apple-brand product, albeit the older version.  Do I just have a faulty cable?  Or is there some sort of troubleshooting that I can do?

What's your Video out settings - PAL or NTSC set it similar as your TV.
Make sure you set TV out to ON.
For MB129LL/B, you should connect the yellow end cable to a Yellow end  socket on your TV.
You should connect the MB129LL/B USB connector to a iPod charger or a USB port, to get suffucient power for the video output.
Check your TV setup so that it knows which AV input to get the video signal from the iPod, and set the TV resolution to low, iPod Resolution is only 480/576p or 4:3 format.
    FYI, use
MB129LL/B for Non HD TV,  Component signal
MB128LL/B for  HD TV, composite signal if your HD TV don't have component signal input ( No yellow port but only Blue, green etc video input)
Audio input for all,  will be red and white.
I'm not suggesting that you buy MB128LL/B, unless your TV don't have component video input. (Not Likely), but check your iPod video settings
    Have a Nice day!

  • Apple Composite AV cable not playing video

    Hello,
I bought a Apple ORIGINAL Composite AV cable so I can watch films in my TV.
When I connect the cable to my tv I get sound but no video.
The connections are all ok and I tried making them with both TV and Iphone turned off and on. I also tried with Ntsc and PAL. Nothing seems to work.
I have a Iphone classic running on firmware 2.2.
Can anyone help me resolving this issue please? I hear other people are having the same problem. What could be the cause? Software problem?
    Thank you.

I tried all combinations imaginable. And I have a Iphone 2G
I think I figured it out both for Iphone 2G and 3G users.
The MB129ZA/B is probably on sale since a few months ago, prior to the 2.0 firmware and several stores have it still in stock like the one where I bought mine.
With the release of the 2.0,2.1 and 2.2 firmwares this cable no longer works and you need the MB129LL has stated on apple's site. (although they look exactly the same and have the same packaging, only difference is the tiny part number)
Now this isn't fare (not to use other words...) for several reasons the main one beeing that all those people who bought this EXPENSIVE cable 2 or 3 months ago now have to buy the new and still very EXPENSIVE one to watch videos on TV.
This is what my research over the Internet has resulted.
    Please post your opinions.

  • Apple AV composite cable & extension cable

    Hi everyone,
Please can anyone help me with my problem?
I went to the apple store and bought the official AV composite cable 30 pin for my device.
    It's working perfectly BUT ...
When I'n connecting my device to the AV cable via an extension cord (1 meter), image will not show at all and I have no sound...
    Working scenario :
device ---> Apple AV original cable  ---> TV
    Non working scenario :
device ---> third party extension cable ---> Apple AV original cable  ---> TV
    Any idea?
    extension cable is new...
    THANKS !!

Hi Lyssa, well that was my first guess indeed but yesterday I managed to make it work ...
Done nothing special but connecting and disconnecting the cable again and again...
I think the quality of the extension cable is to be considered. I have ordered another one...
So to my question : could we use an extension cable and an apple AV composite out cable : answer is YES !
    Thanks for the help!

  • Apple Composite AV Cable issues

Just bought the Apple branded Composite AV Cable for my Iphone, but I'm having some issues, it works for some minutes, or seconds and then I get the message "This accessory is not made for iphone" and then the video stops to play on tv.
I'm on firmware 1.1.2, can anyone help me?

    Hey cybeard,
Try using the cable without the dock. Make sure the dock connector on the iPhone is clean, brush away any dirt or lint.
You can also try restoring the iPhone, http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305744
If that does not work you can request repair for the iPhone or cable online here:

  • IPt + Apple Composite VA Cable = Music through TV speakers?

I bought a new iPod touch over the weekend, and I plunked down the $49 for Apple's Composite AV cable, as well. I've been real happy with it so far, and the video quality is great -- at least, it looks great on my 10-year old Samsung LDTV (lo-def TV).
It seems like I should be able to play music on the touch, tho', with the AV cable connected and have audio out through the TV speakers. Am I wrong? Am I missing something? I mean, I've been known to miss some obvious things ...

Ditto. I have the component cable. Video and Photo slideshow works. None of the music will port to my tv speakers, only with a slideshow will it work on the tv speakers. there should be a way to do this. I assume that this feature is not available with the Touch.

  • TV out & composite AV cable

If you hook up an iPod Touch to a TV via Apple's composite AV cable, will you see a complete mirror of the iPod display on the TV (all screens, including Safari, youtube, iTunes, etc)?
Or is the TV out limited to displaying videos and photos/slideshows?

    Hi,
I want to know if it is possible to install a software that allows to transfer
via Compositive cable TV all that is displayed on my ipod touch (safari, ect...).
Or is it an hardware problem?
    Can anybody else help me?
    Thanks!

  • IOS 8 Update and Composite AV cable

I have an Ipad 2. Before the IOS 8 update I was able to use an Apple brand composite AV cable to connect my ipad to my TV and watch videos from the internet (like youtube). Now that I have updated my Ipad I am no longer able to do that. The sound will come out but the video will no longer play on my TV. Any one know how to fix this??

    Hi wright44taylor,
If you are having issues with your TV not getting video from your iPad through your Apple Composite AV Cable, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
iOS: Force an app to close
Next, I would try restarting the iPhone -
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I have not yet seen any official response to the question: "Is the Apple AV Composite cable fully supported with 30pin connector devices upgraded with iOS7 - specifically ? - eg. iPad 2, iPhone 4, iPhone 4s"
If it is not currently supported is that then due to a bug / oversight and in that case is it something that will be fixed in the near future?

  • IDevices and Apple composite AV Cable - Not Working

    Hi...
I've had problems connecting my iPods (iPod 30GB Video 5.5Gen, iPod Touch 1st and 2nd Gen, with latest capable software up to date) and my iPhone 4 (iOS 6 up to date) to my Samsung LED TV Series 5 using the original, Apple, composite AV cable. Everything is plug in, the way it should be, according to the manual. Devices charge and the Settings menu even displays the TV Settings... It shoud work right?
No... No audio (tried to play some music), no photo, no video (no images, no audio), nothing...
The composite AV cable is fine and works on a crappy 15 to 20 year old CRT TV (mp3, video and photo).
I've adjusted every TV-Out setting there is, on both LED TV and iDevices with no result...
Don´t know waht else to do... Need help, plz... Any suggestions????
    Thanks

I'm confused. You mean that you're expecting to charge your iPhone by connecting it to the TV with a Composite AV cable? That's not going to work; a composite video cable doesn't supply power to the power input pins on your iPhone's dock connector.
Plugging the iPhone to the USB wall socket directly using my regular cable gives the same error so I guess it is the voltage?
Amperage, most likely. There quite likely is insufficient power from that USB port to charge the iPhone (something not infrequent with computer USB ports, and we know nothing about what that USB port is hooked up to.
BTW, to me it would be very risk to plug an iPhone into some USB port about which you know little or nothing. I'd suggest you just use the charger included with the iPhone.
    Regards.

  • Apple composite av cables

I bought composite av cables(mb129ll/b) from apple.com and I only get audio from the tv. I plugged the cables to the same color holes, I have my iPod classic(2.0.1 pc) set to NTSC. I selected a movie and it said "tv out enabled please connect video accessory". I plugged it in, i unplugged and it still said that. I also tried it on my touch 2/3rd gen. Ios 4... And it only sent out audio... I tried it on multiple television sets. I tried changing the widescreen setting and the video signal (ntsc/pal). Could there be a problem manufacturing error with the cables?

I just bought this same product: apple a/v composite cable for $49.99 and tried to use it with my ipod touch 3rdGeneration, and Nano 5th Generation to three different tv's in my house. I got no video, none for both ipods and tv's. All I got was audio and have hooked up all the cables correctly. I am as confused as you as to why this is not working when it should. I called the Apple support 800 number and no one could give me an answer. I already replaced my cable twice, but have the same issue. Get a refund for the cable if you can. I returned mine. The cable is overpriced for what it is. Not only that, the adaptors/tips are too tight for the tv jacks, they nearly broke my tv jacks or connectors and are so difficult to pull out. The design of this product and the limitations that apple forces on their customers is shameful.

Apple Composite AV Cable no longer working on Ipad2 after ios8 update. I'm only getting sound no video can you revert back to ios7 or buy a cable that will work any help would be appreciated

The 30-pin connector on the iPhone 4 dock might not have all the connector pins to do video.
I'm 99% sure the Universal Dock does have the pins (and therefor supports video out).
