Apple bluetooth keyboard doesn't allow text input on iOS 8 with voice over but allows navigation using arrow keys?

Hi, upgraded to iOS 8 on my blind sister's iPad 2 but now the Apple Bluetooth keyboard doesn't seem to recognise text entry, the arrow keys still allow navigation using voiceover. Have had trouble before with the keyboard in iOS7 but have solved by reseting the iPad in settings. Any ideas? Sister is really struggling as she can't use iPad's software keyboard. Thanks

My wife is a blind user too. In iOS 8 it is fussy about Quick Nav. on or off. We have an newer iPad but be sure Quick Nav is OFF (left + right arrows together) then try text entry. Hope it helps!

  • Occasional duplicate characters on iPad from Apple bluetooth keyboard

I'm using an Apple bluetooth keyboard on an iPad mini retina on iOS 7.0.4. Occasionally, but not always, when typing a new line (I think it might be after the keyboard has rested a certain period of time, but certainly not very long), I'll get a double character.
    llike this
    oor this
iit;s always the first character of a sentence,
Iit may be like this as well
Wwhere the first letter is capitalized as it should be, and the second is not.
Any ideas on what would cause this or how to fix it?
    Thanks
    -Joseph

Just to say that I use a Ipad Air 2, iOS 8.1, and a bluetooth keyboard recently purchased from apple and i experience the exact same issues.
And if it looks like something insignificant, a duplicate character here and then, i assure you that is a bit annoying.
I guess there is a sort of trust in keyboard input developed over time by ppl who use it a lot, that one does not expecto to be broken
Cheers, hope there is a fix for it.

Sorry, but no one who would know can discuss unreleased software such as iOS 5 in these forums. We'll have to wait, probably for the official release, before such details will be known.

I am having trouble getting my My Mac Book Pro 15" Retina to wake up with an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse while Docked in a Hengedock vertical docking station. The Keyboard and mouse work great with the laptop lid open but when closed in the docking station the bluetooth signal does not seem to transmit.  Is there a setting that can be changed to allow an Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to wake the computer while docked?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Mac Mini 2014 with Apple bluetooth keyboard and Magic Mouse

    Hi all,
I'm currently in the process of moving from my old MacBook to a Mac Mini 2014 and I have a couple of questions regarding functionality of the Apple bluetooth keyboard and Magic Mouse with the Mac Mini.
As these are the only keyboard and mouse I have available to me as I currently only have the one computer in the house, I'm wondering how I will pair them with my new Mac Mini (arriving next week for Christmas) without a wired user input device (keyboard or mouse). When I paired them with my MacBook, I of course had its trackpad and keyboard to navigate through the various steps, but as the Mac Mini does not have these, how does the pairing process work? Will I have to get my hands on a wired mouse/keyboard? I'm asking in advance because I need to get my new system up and running to start work on 27th December and so I need to know if I should pick up a cheap wired mouse/keyboard in advance.
My second question relates to the Mac Mini, Apple bluetooth keyboard and Boot Camp. Usually, when I want to boot into Windows on my MacBook, I hold down the Option/Alt key on my MacBook's built-in keyboard to be given the choice of operating systems. Sometimes when I do this using the bluetooth keyboard, it hasn't paired in time and it boots straight into OS X, so I have to wait until that has booted, shut down and then try again. Clearly, this might be a problem on a Mac Mini if I have urgent work I need to complete in Windows, so rebooting over and over until my keyboard finally pairs in time isn't desirable. Any tips here would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your help!

If you unpair your BT KB and mouse from the old computer they should pair during the initial setup of the Mini. However, sometimes they donot a wired KB and mouse is required. You can use any USB PC KB and mouse.
Once you get the BT KB to work you can use the Option key on the BT KB while booting to get your choice of OS to boot into.

  • Apple Bluetooth keyboard

    Hi
I have a Ipad 1 and a Apple Bluetooth wireless keyboard.
I was wondering if there are on buttons on the keyboard which will control the Ipad.
    James

    James-
The top row of keys on my MC184LL/A Apple Wireless Keyboard will control brightness (F1,F2) and speaker volume (F10, F11, F12).  The other F-keys are App dependent.
When working with text, the arrow keys control the cursor.  Command-C copies highlighted text to the clipboard.  Command-X copies and deletes.  Command-V pastes to the current cursor location.
There are reports that the latest version of Apple's wireless keyboard does not control the iPad like my two-year-old model does.  If yours does not, I suggest you report it to Apple by providing Feedback at <iPad Feedback>.  If enough people let them know about it, they may be able to correct the problem in a future iOS update.

  • Apple Bluetooth keyboard unsuccessful pairing in Windows 8.1 using Bootcamp 5.1

This is in regards to a MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.4 15" Late 2011. The keyboard is an Apple Bluetooth keyboard.
When I start windows, then open bluetooth devices, then hold down the power button on the keyboard, then click the "Pair" button, suddenly it tells me that the pairing was unsuccessful. I don't ever get to the part where I enter in the numbers into the keyboard, as I know that is the next step.
I have tried going into the device manager and enabling the bluetooth collaboration in the broadcom 802.11 device in the network devices but that doesn't solve my issue.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

all the windows in the non-primary monitor moves to the primary monitor
For me this only happens when I switch accounts.  Does Hibernation work?
Another weird thing that happens then is how I can restore my IE windows.  I always use IE Fullscreen when I'm working, so usually after the problem occurs I will find an IE window on my Tablet still in Fullscreen mode.  Then, instead of just flipping
it back with Win-Shift-CursorLeft, what I have found works better is to just press F11.  Doing that inexplicably restores the IE window on the secondary monitor but no longer in Fullscreen mode.  Then pressing F11 again, restores it to Fullscreen
mode still on the secondary.  If I try to flip it over normally the recovery procedure is less elegant but I guess equivalent.  Fortunately, I usually only have IE windows on that other monitor, so there's not that much inconvenience for me when
it happens--just the slight irritation of the quirkiness.
Actually I just realized there could be another workaround.  What happens if you try to use the Win-P function as soon as possible to ensure that the Extend display state is in effect?  I think the reason this happens is that both monitors are
not being sensed soon enough, so this could be a way of avoiding that problem.  TBD.
Also, I'll try to remember to try Hibernation myself and see what difference it makes.  TBD.

  • Apple bluetooth keyboard not found

    MacBook Pro
    Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013
Processor  2.6 GHz Intel Core i5
    Software  OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
since yesterday the external bluetooth APPLE keyboard cannot be found.
I use both a Apple bluetooth mouse and an Apple bluetooth keyboard. The mouse continues to work just fine, but the keyboard just stopped working and my computer cannot find it as a bluetooth device. I didn't run any system updates at all- the bluetooth keyboard just stopped working and then I couldn't find it- I get the message "no keyboard found." And yes, the batteries are installed correctly. And yes, I have turned the keyboard on.
This is the control panel I stare at for a long time and nothing happens:
I've read all the available troubleshooting advice from Apple, which is mostly a run down of how to put batteries in the **** thing and run the Bluetooth control panel :-/
    WTH?!

I found a fix for this and it does work. It's so simple I have a hard time understanding why Apple doesn't promote this extremely helpful and easy solution to the bluetooth keyboard problems (I hope you have as good luck with the fix as I had.)

  • Apple Bluetooth Keyboard (no fsck?)

I just bought an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and find that I can no longer run /sbin/fsck -y when rebooting to repair the boot disk.
Apparently the system doesn't load Bluetooth earlier enough in the boot process to use the keyboard for simple commands. (So I imagine I can't do a PRAM/NVRAM reset either.)
Also holding down the C key to run DiskWarrior no longer works (i.e. it won't boot from the DiskWarrior disk).
There must be a way to run these without having to reboot twice if the system freezes (which on rare occasion it does). (i.e. First hard restart to access Disk Utility to choose the DiskWarrior startup disk and the second reboot to actually run DW.) Rebooting with the option key down has never worked for me to choose startup disks. (10.3.9 on an upgraded G3 B/W)
And the only way (at present) for me to run Disk Utility on my main drive is to boot from another drive. So again it takes two reboots.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi Ron,
Apple released a Bluetooth firmware update that resolved these issues. Run 'Software Update' located in 'System Preferences' and install all of the latest updates and firmware. This should resolve the problem that you're having.
Also is your computer using a D-Link bluetooth dongle or inbuilt Bluetooth?
    Hope this helps,
    Stu

  • Apple Bluetooth keyboard connection hangs

Hopefully someone has an answer for this: just in the past few days the connection to my Apple Bluetooth keyboard has started to hang.
These are the symptoms: I try to connect it through the Bluetooth Setup Assistant. I can get as far as inputing the pass key and hitting "return", then I get the "congratulations, your device is connected" message. Then immediately after that my connection is lost, and I can no longer input through the keyboard. It's still recognized through the Menu Bar and System Preferences, though.
Battery life is not a problem; System Preferences shows 3 bars. Replacing w/ fresh batteries hasn't helped, either. I've tried both the "enter" and "return" keys after entering the pass key; no dice. I've also tried deleting the device out of System Preferences starting fresh -- again, no results.
This keyboard has been fine all year; my wireless Mighty Mouse is working fine right now. Any ideas? -- Thanks in advance

  • Apple Bluetooth Keyboard in a Windows XP window

    Hi,
    my problem is this:
I have a Macbook Air with OS X 10.6 on it. Connected via Ethernet i have a PC running Windows XP. The Macbooks internal keyboard works without problem in the XP window, but when I use an external Apple Bluetooth Keyboard (this one: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC184LL/B?fnode=MTY1NDA1Mg&mco=MTMzNzg5MDM) it doesn't work at all in the XP window – but without problems everywhere else in the Mac.
Any ideas what can be wrong? It used to work just fine before.

  • "F" Keys on iPad and Apple Bluetooth Keyboard

Anybody know how to get the "F" Keys on my Apple bluetooth keyboard to work with my iPad? I need to use F1, F2, etc. Please Help.

You might notice that keyboards sold exclusively for use with the iPad do not include function keys. That is because the iPad does not currently offer any system-wide method for assigning actions to those keys. I suppose that individual apps might be able to look for function key presses and have actions assigned to them, but since most apps are designed to work with the iPad's built-in input tools, I doubt that many – or any – apps implement this.

At first after installing the IOS7 the system couldn't find my Apple Bluetooth Keyboard.  After a few reboots it was found but the increase volume doesn't affect the volume it now changes the desktop as if I was clicking the mission control. The decrease volume doesn't do anything.
