Apple Bluetooth Keyboard -- remap caps lock?

Howdy,
I've got Apples aluminum bluetooth keyboard connected to my iPad ("new", aka iPad 3), and
I would like to map the caps-lock key to control, like you can do with any Mac.
I can't find the setting; is there one, and how do I get to it?
Thanks,
Tim

Hi,
Unfortunately there is no way to change the setting of a keyboard currently connected to an iPad, as done on a Mac. All the keys are permanent.

  • Apple AL Bluetooth Keyboard - Tab, Caps Lock, Function and Control keys just stopped working

    Hi All -
All of a sudden I get on my baby, 27" iMac OSX 10.6 and the some keys on the bluetooth keyboard do not work. Specifially the Tab, Caps Lock, Function and Control keys. I'm fine with the caps lock gone (why is it there?) but the others are useful.
I've searched all over for a solution but I haven't found one. Tried to upgrade the firmware which is fine, reset the PRAM done, checked the speech per apple support nadda.
    Please help.
    Thanks

    Hi
Go to System preferances > Universal Access > Mouse or Mousie and trackpad > and turn your Mouse keys off.
Then disconnect and reconnect your keyboard.
Note that you don't open your mouse under hardware in System Preferances, this is for a whole different group of settings
    Hope This helps

  • Apple wireless keyboard.  Caps Lock light quit working.

I know it's a small thing but all of a sudden the Caps Lock light quit working.  A real pain for entering passwordssince you can't see if their in caps or not.  Can this be fixed?

What does resetting the PRAM mean? How is that done?
    <http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11243>
It works best with a USB keyboard.  With a wireless keyboard, try pressing the keys just after the startup BOING.
You will need to reset the "Startup Disk" system preference after a PRAM reset.

I have an Apple Bluetooth keyboard that locks up my iPad whenever I turn the keyboard on. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.

If you are sure that the battery isn't empty, then have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • HT4111 Does anyone know how I can restore spell correct, auto correct and auto cap which was lost when I paired my Apple Bluetooth keyboard with my iPAD3?

Lost AUTO CORRECT, AUTO CAP and SPELLING CHECK after connecting my Apple Bluetooth keyboard to my iPAD3, updated to iOS 6.1.3, didn't I?. The lost features are in the on  position in settings, aren't they? Anybody out there with a remedy?

  • Shift-Caps Lock-Tab not working with remapped Caps Lock

I've remapped my Caps Lock key to Ctrl using the Preferences > Keyboard > Modifier keys dialog and in the following question when I say CTRL i mean the Caps Lock key remapped to Ctrl and Ctrl is the normal left Ctrl key.
I'm using OS X 10.9.4 and I've just bought 2 new external corded Apple keyboards and both of them are having trouble with the key combination Left Shift + CTRL + Tab. For applications where that combination should go to the previous TAB it does not work. If I use the right Shift instead it works fine, if I use the left Ctrl key instead of the remapped Caps Lock key it works great too.
The internal keyboard on the laptop works fine with Left Shift - Caps Lock - Tab.
The computers are a Macbook Air 11" Mid 2011 and a Macbook Pro 15" Mid 2010.

    Hey,
Sorry to hear about the keyboard problem.
In a post a while back had this to say.  He makes a suggestion that the keyboard might need to be replaced, then the person with the question tried something else.  You might take a look and see if there's something there that will help.
Thanks for coming to the forum.

  • A1016 Apple Bluetooth Keyboard Pairs, but will not work

I have one of those A1016, 1st generation, Apple Bluetooth keyboards,
had it since late 2008, that will pair via bluetooth setup assistant, I
can enter the passkey on the keyboard and I get the "congratulations
your computer is now setup to use your bluetooth keyboard, message but,
as soon as it is paired the keyboard accepts no input.
The problem started after I left the keyboard in my car overnight, and
switched on, I believe, while the only macbook I had ever used the
keyboard with was with me, 30 miles away. If I had not been in an
extreme hurry at the time I probably would have thought to take the
    batteries out of the keyboard.
The battery level, currently, is at about 79%. The light on the caps
lock key does not come on, but the green light on the on switch,
underneath the keyboard, does seem to work, when I first switch it on
that light blinks for a period of time.
Incidentally, the keyboard has been in this condition for a long time,
now, and I deleted com.apple.Bluetooth.plist many times and I repaired
permissions, even with "applejack" and with "iceclean", many times since
    the problem started.

Hi Barry, thanks for the quick reply. I am not familiar with "favorites" for BT, but I checked, and of the several BT devices I have re-paired, only the keyboard is NOT a "favorite". Odd thing is, I have no idea how to make a device a "favorite" (or not)! Don't know how it happened for the other devices.
The Apple support document TA2137 says to click on the "add to favorites" button, but I see no such button and no way to make a BT device a "favorite". I have no idea how my other BT devices got so designated. I think I've applied all software updates.
Can you help me on setting that BT "favorite" status?
    Thanks,
    Dave

  • Remapping caps lock to a sticky fn key?

The new layout of the f-keys along the top of apple keyboards is annoying at best, particularly for those of us who use the f-keys as function keys (because they do marvelous things in certain applications, like Eclipse).
Most of the time, I'd like the f-keys to be f-keys (i.e. F12 is F12, NOT increase volume), but I do use the special hotkeys (iTunes control, volume control). The trouble is that my hand is not large enough to change the volume with one hand (I could with my old powerbook, because volume control was on the left, not on the right!).
The best solution, for me, would be to remap the caps lock key to be a sticky fn key (which toggles the F-keys between F-key and hotkey functionality), that way, when I want to change the volume, I can hit caps lock, and then hit the volume keys until things are at the right level, then toggle back with caps lock again.
This would make the caps lock into a toggle for the f-key functionality.
I know I found a hint a long time ago about remapping caps lock to be a sticky language key...which I used to use...but I think that's specific to the language system.
I've also check out DoubleCommand (doesn't do this), and uControl / fKeys (but neither are supported anymore and require legacy systems).
Anyone out there have a solution?
    -Zach

Just to be clear, part of the problem is that I do use the hotkey functionality SOMETIMES, but that requires the combination of the fn key (in the lower left-hand spot on the MacBook) + the desired f-key. My hand doesn't reach from the lower left-hand corner of the keyboard to (very nearly) the upper-right hand.

  • Vista Drivers for Apple Bluetooth Keyboard in BootCamp?

I have a MacBook Pro 2.4, OSX 10.5.1, and have installed Boot Camp with Vista Ultimate.
I also have the Apple Bluetooth keyboard that has the numerical pad.
My keyboard works well but I cn not get the numerical pad to work.
I suspect it might be drivers for the keyboard.
I have installed the Leopard Win drivers for Boot Camp.
    No luck
    Any thoughts out there?
    Dunc

    Never mind,,,,,
I found an unmarked "Num Lock" key on the keyboard.
    am a happy camper now!

  • HT1941 Bluetooth keyboard setup has locked up keyboard, it's looking for a wireless keyboard, none of the keys on the keyboard are functioning, I can get out of the screen, or shut down my Mac, ... anyone??

The bluetooth keyboard setup has locked my keyboard, none of the keys are functioning, holding down the power button does nothing, I don't know how I got into wireless keyboard setup, and I don't know how to get out. Anyone?

    Hi:
I wish my suggestion had gotten you further.
I do suggest you try to connect the keyboard again.  The request for a number is a step in it trying to pair.  If it gets by the number, it sometimes takes a little while to get connected.  If you are unable to get it connected and want a new one, I have been using Apple Bluetooth keyboards for years - and I like them. The one I have (the newest model) only uses two batteries and is very thin.
Speaking of batteries, if you are not already doing so, you might consider rechargeables.  I have a drawer full of them and use a 15 minute charger.  I go tired of buying batteries and rechargeables are environmentally friendly to boot. At the moment, I use 2450 mAh Energizers and a 15 minute Energizer charger (all purchased new on eBay at a very reasonable price).
I am far from an iPad "expert," although I have one.  If my suggestion below does not help, post your question in a separate thread in the iPad forum.
I had a terrible time syncing my iCal on my Mac with my iPad iCal (confusing - hopefully it makes sense).  I quit using iCloud as that added to the confusion. There is a facility to one-time sync items.  When you connect your computer to your iPad, iTunes opens.  The system begins a process (automatic backup and so on). After it finishes, you can click on "info."  At the bottom of the screen, there is an advanced section.  You can select any of the items and then force it to sync. The iCal information from your computer would be deposited on the iPad.
After all that, I do not use a Google calendar so the information may be worthless to you.
If you want to reset the iPad to factory settings, you can do that when it is connected to iTunes (one of the options).  Me being me, I try never to erase anything.

  • Apple Bluetooth keyboard force shifts

Basically every so often lately my apple bluetooth keyboard thinks its shift key is on.

    Hello silver:
You can try a couple of things before getting a new one (although if it in warranty, I would opt for a new device):
Trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart.

  • Apple Bluetooth keyboard shows the wrong letters when pressed

    Hi,
My apple bluetooth keyboard shows the wrong letters when I write on it. If I press "c", the letter "d" shows on the screen instead. The bottom row of letters mimicks the row just above. I've tried unpairing and paring the keyboard again with my computer and my ipad. Same error. Tried resetting the pram and the smc and it still doesn't work. Changed the batteries in the keyboard and no change. I've removed some plist file (com.apple.BezelService) and its lock file like someone recommended in a youtube video. I've also checked the keyboard settings and can't find anything that seems weird.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix it or do I have to buy a new keyboard?
    /Andreas

Before you buy a new one, take it to an Apple store (if one is near you) and have them look at it.

  • Remap caps lock to Ctrl in console (tty)

I tried to use loadkeys to remap caps lock to Ctrl and Ctrl to caps lock but it doesn't work, because i think use caps lock is easier than press Ctrl when i move around keyboard. so i wonder:
    1. how can i remap caps lock to Ctrl and Ctrl to caps lock in bash (in tty)
    2. how can i remap caps lock to ESC in vim (in tty)
    I tried to modify /usr/local/share/kbd/keymaps/personal.map
    keycode 58 = 29
    keycode 29 = 58
    58 is caps lock keycode
    29 is control keycode.
    Thanks in advanced!

yep, tks a lot, english is not my native language.
write a super short script that simply changes keymap before calling vim.
you mean i need to reload keymap when i call vim. if that i need to modify my .vimrc to call a script to reload the keymap. humm, that's problem, how can i call a script in .vimrc?  i am new to linux so can you show me howto?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
