Apple bt mouse w/ scroll wheel nor right-side click working in ML 10.8

i've have years of experience in setting up macs and this scroll wheel old bluetooth mouse doesn't function as i set it up in system prefs. the scroll wheel seems clean but does not work no matter the setting chosen. also, the right side and double finger clicking don't work either. it seems that there's a compatability issue.

My Apple wireless mouse only scrolls one way.  Any ideas on how I can set it up so it scrools up and down?

I am having the same problem also.  I've tried cleaning the ball, but still not working.  This happened a couple of times before....and by accident I hit some button and it started working again.  So frustrating........sorry I'm not any help. Just venting.

  • Why does the mouse 'run' to the lower right side of desktop and freeze when a SmartBoard is plugged into the USB port.  Running 10.8.5.   Sometimes the pointer has a cloud under it but it always freezes.

I run SmartBoards connected to iMacs running 10.7 and 10.8 throughout my school.  On one of these computers the mouse has recently started freezing the minute a SmartBoard is plugged in to the USB port.  The mouse 'runs' to the bottom right side of the screen, a cloud often is under the pointer, and it is not longer interactive.  You can move the mouse upward a bit with the cloud following some of the time but it does not work.  Once the SmartBoard is unplugged the mouse works normally.  This particular computer worked fine with the SmartBoard until recenlty.  Any solutions or ideas?

Apple Magic Mouse responds but does not want to click to web links, but gives options instead, go back, look up, save, etc?  Changed batteries but does not solve the mouse problem.  I click all over the page and it continues to provide options and link is indicated in blue, but have to keep trying until it finally let me continue.

Are you sure you are clicking on the left side of the mouse, rather than somewhere in the middle (and probably closer to the right side)?

Firefox (latest and greatest) has been giving me synaptics scroll wheel errors. It has worked fine up until 3 days ago. I have the latest driver for the touch-pad, from synaptics, for my toshiba laptop L505D-S5986. Operating system is Windows 7 (32-Bit). Have tried it on other browsers, and works as it should. The last add-on i installed for Firefox was "Fox Filter" so my kids couldn't accidentally stumble onto sites of immoral tastes. I can't see why that would have any effect, but it was the last update/add-on i installed to the browser, but even then,.......it was working fine for a week and a half afterwards until now. Please help.

    Hello Steve.
You may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
If you detect a faulty add-on, you should contact its author for support. You can also search for alternatives. Site filters are relatively common in the add-ons gallery: [http://addons.mozilla.org addons.mozilla.org].

  • Line Out (Lime Color) Right Side not working.

I plugged in a 3.5m into my Line Out, I have it connected to my stero aux. My stero is working fine and everything with the sound is working right. No shortage in my wires. When I plug it into my Headphone jack it works fine but in my line out the right side only works but the left side sounds really really low. I have adjusted the levels and balance.
I think that the Maufacture must of missed up on the line out size. That's the only thing I can come up with.

this has happened to me. What part do I need to ask for in the shop. My sound was muffled, but I removed the speaker plug from the back and put it in the headset in the front and the whole thing is great now. I just need to now what part I need to ask for so I can fix it. I will google how to do it.

  • Mighty Mouse bluetooth: scroll wheel in Vista 64 bit doesn't work

I Installed Vista 64 bit on my Mac Pro.
My bluetooth mighty mouse has been recognized as an hid mouse. It works but the scroll wheel.
I tested on osx and it works, so it is not dirty or broken.
I tried to install the drivers from my leopard dvd but I receive an error message during the installation.
I downloaded the bootcamp update for 64bit systems but when I try to install it, it tells me the software to be updated is missing.
I tried to use a recent leopard dvd a friend gave but it tells me that my system doesn't support 64 bit softwares (is a late 2007 Mac Pro).
Is there anyone who knows the answer?

You have to have a pre-2008 Mac Pro I take it.
(might want to include more in your profile)
First you need to install 64-bit drivers from Apple off 10.5.4 or later DVD or from a 2008 Mac Pro.
Might even be drivers for generic BT mice available somewhere??

I think you'll need to uninstall your current Apple services and device drivers, restart and then go with BC 2.x for 64-bit.

  • Premiere Pro CC Update has Apple Magic Mouse Timeline Scrolling Backwards

I've used the Apple Magic Mouse and for thousands of hours on Premiere Pro versions CS5 and CS6 and I just updated to CC.  On the Magic Mouse, I used to press Option and then swipe right on the mouse to zoom in on the timeline and Option + swipe left to zoom out.  Now Option + swipe left zooms in and Option + swipe right zooms out.  It's backwards and it's so annoying.  I've tried searching for a setting to reverse this but no luck.  Anyone else having this issue or found a fix to get the Magic Mouse working the same was as in previous Premiere Pro versions?

I also use Logic for my music/audio production.   In Logic, if you press Option and swipe right it zooms in, and Option + swipe left to zoom out.   Basically the Premiere Pro CC update got this backwards.

  • 10.4.9 Scroll Wheel Problem - using Safari with a mouse with scroll wheel.

Since installing 10.4.9 I have noticed that when on web sites with Safari, when using the scroll wheel on my Logitech MX1000 Laser cordless mouse (Jan 2005) with Logitech control Center 2.1.3 (latest), suddenly you can no longer scroll using the wheel, in fact the mouse becomes "Dead" (the trackpad, too), so you cannot use the scroll arrows either. You have to quit Safari and restart Safari. Unfortunately this has happened 1-2 times/day and only since installing 10.4.9....... MacBook (May 2006, first ones) 2 gHz RAM.
Any form you are filling-out -- not possible to send, since you cannot click the send button...
Has anyone seen this problem or similar mousing problems running 10.4.9?
    Thanks.
    Steve Schulte 19 March 2007

NOTE: I have just learned that the Logitech Control Center 2.1.3 is NOT compatible with Mac OS 10.4.9 but that Logitech is working on 2.1.4-- so if others are having a similar problem, then it is not your Mac!
Hopefully this will be out shortly--- and if anyone hears anything, kindly post.

  • Lenovo Bluetooth Laser mouse 41u5009 scroll wheel not working in Virtual PC

Firstly this is not a type I have a 41U5009 that is the model number printed on the bottom of the mouse and this mouse came direct from Lenovo with my T61p notebook.  For some reason to get drivers for this mouse you cannot simply type in the model number on the Lenovo site as it does not recognize it as a valid model number.
My issue is that the driver I have or the mouse does not allow the scroll wheel to work under MS virtual pc 2007.  I am running Vista 64 bit on the T61P laptop and the virtual pc I am running xp.  If I plug in other mice such as MS cordless mini mouse or HP standard mouse the wheel from those mice works in the VM.  But the wheel on the Lenovo mouse does not work, this makes me believe it is the Lenovo mouse that is the issue.  I have tried using the Lenovo mouse on another pc ( a clone pc) and have the same issue with the wheel not working.  I should point out that in the parent OS the wheel on the Lenovo mouse works fine.  I should also point out that in the VM every other function of the mouse works fine, it is just the wheel part that does not get recognized.

Sorry, but pressing F7 did not do anything I could see in the mobile browser. I had to check with the desktop browser to see what it was supposed to do, and I don't think this caret browsing function exists in the mobile version.
Also tried installing the latest non-beta mobile FIrefox alongside the beta, without syncing anything, and the nonfunctionality of mouse scrolling is present in that one, too. Am considering giving up on mobile Firefox on at least this device.
Note: in case this information is useful, the mouse scrolling works on the Firefox start page with the thumbnails for most used links, but not on any other pages.

  • Does external PS/2 mouse w/scrolling wheel conflict w/Trackpoint?

I've got an x31 running Windows XP pro SP3.  Everything is fine.
But when I plug in an external mouse into the PS/2 port of my media slice or docking station:
      - the scrolling wheel on the mouse (logitech or sony) doesn't work
      - the psysical movement required to move the cursor across the screen is silly
(nearly 10", vs 3 or 4 with a USB mouse)
    Ideas??

OK, I pieced together the solution.  This probably applies to all thinkpads.
The PS/2 port, to properly recognize hardware, needs the system to be power-cycled.  So, if you already have a system up and plug a PS/2 mouse in...it will only be partially recognized.  The amount of physical movement required to move the mouse is excessive.  Buttons might not work.  Scrolling wheel won't work.
But if you power cycle the system, the external PS/2 mouse will work fine and the Trackpoint will be disabled (for as long as the external mouse is plugged in).
So my problem:  I was putting my laptop into the docking station and ultrabase but I wans't power-cycling.  I was just ejecting, putting the system in suspend, etc.
The SOLUTION:  when putting your laptop into the docking station or ultrabase with a PS/2 mouse, hibernate the system first.  Since the system is powered down, when you turn it on it will detect the PS/2 mouse and all will be well.
I have no idea if this applies to Win2K, Vista, or 7...just to WinXP.  Confirmed this on two separate x31s and two different brands of PS/2 mice.
To answer the question I originally started with -- yes, the trackpoint does conflict with external PS/2 mice....but the system manages the conflict just fine as long as you power-cycle the hardware after hooking up the external mouse.
Some of this applies to serial mice (no, they haven't gone away from my basement...), but none of it applies to truly plug-and-play devices like USB or bluetooth mice.

  • Mighty Mouse only scrolls down and to side

It was working fine, then I was told to reboot after some webobjects update or something like that. Now it won't scroll up. It's clicking and not gummed up, and it was working seconds before the reboot. Anyone run into anything similar? I dunno if I have a mouse driver cdrom for it, as I got it for Xmas and tossed all packaging and it worked right off the bat in my iBook so... any suggestions? I can hunt down the packaging maybe, or if they have drivers online, maybe the driver just got pooched a little. If anything, this will help the next person who has this problem when I do find a solution.

I just figured it out. There was some gunk inside there. It's weird because it was working before the update reboot. Must have just been too much and a coincidence. I found the gunk when I accidentally pushed down while scrolling up and it forced some of it out. It's work now. That's good info to remember in the future since I still can't find my driver CD. Thanks!

  • My Macbook Pro Retina's USB port on the right side not working at all

    Dear all,
I received my macbook pro 15inch with retina display a week ago, but not until today had I got the chance to use the USB port on the right side, only to find out that it is not connecting to anything at all. I have tried to use my iPhone 4 and iPad 3 with two different cables, my USB thumb drive, and my Blackberry 9900, none of them are charging nor shown in iTunes/Finder. All of above works on the left and on other windows machines too.
I'm also not able to charge my Blackberry with the usb port on the left side, thought it would pop up a message saying "charging not supported" on the phone.
For you information, I have applied both updates including the one released few days ago. I have also tried to reset the PRAM. Also, I have migrated from my old late 2008 13inch unibody Macbook using Migration Assistant, not sure if this would affect anything.
I'm aware that there have been reports and discussions regarding the USB port not been able to run devices on 3.0 speed, but I wonder if anyone else have the same problem with me, where the port simply not connecting to anything at all?

I also have a problem with the USB port on the right side of my Retina MBP.  The USB3.0 port on the left side works fine, even with high speed external SSD enclosures, like the OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G which enables me to copy large files at a sustained rate of 160-170MB/sec.  Wow USB3.0 and the Mercury SSD is a FAAAAST combination connected to the Retina MBP.
However, like the forum entries about the USB3.0 ports in general on the new Retina MBP, the USB3.0 port on the RIGHT side is plagued with dropping intermittently, disconnecting my external hard drives while copying large files AS WELL AS disconnecting while just sitting there connected to an external hard drive and doing nothing.
Therefore, since I don't feel like returning my Retina MBP and waiting weeks for a replacement, I have chosen to only use the left side USB3.0 port for now.
I have my suspicions about why the right side USB port might be more problematic than the left side one.  I found this older post on the internet about how "Not all USB ports are created equal on MacBooks..." that talks about how on older models of MacBooks one of the USB ports shares a USB hub with multiple other devices like the iSight camera etc. therefore making it less tolerant of heavy traffic or something like that.  (http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2008/05/the-macbook-all/)
Therefore, I wonder if the right side USB port is sharing a USB internal hub where-as the left side one is more 'dedicated' and therefore in my case able to handle the high speed transfers/traffic I am throwing at it with my external SSDs.
I have also read that USB3.0 in general, on non-Macs, has had trouble for years.  For instance, some forum entries on Apple Support Communities and other non-Apple forums has made mention that 'they' are not surprised at the problems encountered on USB3.0 external hard drives connected to the Retina MBP because Windows laptops have had a lot of flakey problems with USB3.0 for 'years'.
Also, I have recently purchased a "Buffalo" external Thunderbolt 1TB drive from OWC and have been doing Clones onto that drive for several weeks.  I use SuperDuper to clone >600GB of data on my 768GB Retina MBP several times a week.  And, I have (knock on wood) not had any problems with the stability of my externally connected Thunderbolt drive.
So, in my case, I am racking it up to high-speed stresses on the USB3.0 ports at least in part...and perhaps the possibility that the LEFT side USB port on the Retina MBP is more dependable and/or a more dedicated USB port than the right side one.
This doesn't really solve your problem, but it may at least help you feel like you are not alone.
