Apple Care extended warranty??

Good bad or indifferant.....What about other extended warranty plans like Best Buys or Radio Shacks?

Again, read EXACTLY what the warranty covers.
If it does NOT say it covers loss, damamge by
accident, etc. it will NOT be covered, regardless off
what the salesman tells you.
Usually, 40-50% of a store managers salary comes
directly from extended warranties. They are cheap &
easy to sell for the store and the compnay makes big
$$$ off of them.
This is not necessarily bad, but for a $20 cd player,
you don't need one.
Here are a few interesting articles.

I appreciate the links..... The minute I say scrap the extended warranty, you know my ipod will go on the fritz and out of luck I will be............. I think Best Buy will even replace your battery for free with that extended warranty.

  • Can I purchase an Apple Care extended warranty for an iPad Air if I purchase it at Best Buy?

CAn I buy an Apple Care extended warranty for an iPad Air if I purchase it at Best Buy?

For me? Buying from best buy was my only option since the closest apple store is over an hour away. (and technically in another state)
Also, when I bought my iPod the warranty that Best Buy offered was far more comprehensive than Apple Care with accidental damage protection for up to 3 years.
And, when my iPad's charging port messed up, I took it into Best Buy and they swapped me out for a new one while at an Apple store I likely would have gotten a refurb.
When I swapped out my iPod 4 for my iPod 5 I took it into best buy, got $70 towards the purchase of the new device by trading in the old one.
Best Buy isn't perfect and not every store is a good one, but they are a good alternative or other option to explore for those buying devices.
I think my biggest beef when buying my iPad and later iPod at Best Buy is when I bought my iPad I bought the screen protector and they wanted to charge me to apply it...and it kinda rankled for me to be plunking down over $600 dollars to have them want to charge me $15 for a screen protector install.

  • Are Refurb Phones Accepted in the Apple Care Extended Warranty?

anyone have any input on this?

i was wondering if i can extend the 90 day warranty on the refurbs
Most likely no. The original warranty is the deciding factor in purchasing AppleCare. More than likely, the original warranty on the refurbished units you purchased has expired, thus making them ineligible for AppleCare. You can confirm this by plugging the SN's in here:

  • Will Apple Care extended warranty cover broken glass?

Or, for that matter, will the 90 day warranty do anything for broken glass on a 4G?

I was wondering the same thing.  I have an iPhone4 with the AppleCare plan.  Although I have had my phone and AppleCare plan for a year, I didn't bother registering the plan until tonight when my glass broke (from a fall of about two and a half feet).
My paperwork for the AppleCare plan says that it simply extends the warranty.  That tells me no coverage except for manufacturers' defects.  However, when I went to register my plan at the Apple support website, I was redirected to this page for details of the plan I had just registered.  http://www.apple.com/support/products/iphone.html
Quoting from that page:  "Every iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary support. AppleCare+ for iPhone extends your coverage to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone1 and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a $49 service fee.2 Whether you use your iPhone with a Mac or a PC, just one phone call can help resolve most issues."
This would seem to imply that for a $49 fee, I can get my glass replaced.  Anybody know if that's the case?
The plan I purchased is called "AppleCare" in all my paperwork.  However, this web page indicates "Applecare+".  Anybody know if there is a distinction between Applecare and Applecare+?
My guess is that sometime in the last year, they added that "two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a $49 service fee" sometime in the last year.  And when they added that coverage, they changed the name from AppleCare to AppleCare+.  But that's just a guess on my part.  Anybody know for sure?

  • Transferring Apple Care Extended Protection Plan

I bought my friends iphone 3gs and she does not have the iphone box or the apple care extended protection plan box anymore but i  am able to see online that it is still in warranty but it is in her name. How can I transfer the iphone into my name without the boxes and apple care registration number?

AppleCare is a warranty extension and covers manufacturing defects. It is not insurance and will not cover user-caused damage, such as scratching or cracking of the glass (unless the crack was determined to be due to a defect in manufacturing, not the iPad being dropped or impacted).

  • Where to buy?  BestBuy or Apple?  Extended Warranty?

just curious what the forum thinks? the extended warranty at bestbuy is $40, at apple it is 60. hmmm... is it worth the extra 20 to buy at apple?

You should go with the best buy PRP(product replacement plan). Not apple's over priced care plan. If anything excluding theft or abuse happens to your nano you will get a new one free, including wear and tear and battery or memory issues. Thus the name replacement. Apple's care plan is also for two years but you have to ship it to them and you will be with out a nano for a while. Plus they may just send you a refurb. When best buy sends in an apple product for service it does not go to their service center, it goes to apple's service center therefore NOT voiding your warranty. But the nano does not have a PSP(Product service plan) it has a PRP. Even if it did void the warranty you wouldnt have to worry b/c you would be covered for 3 years under the PSP with best buy. But in the case of the Nano I would go to best buy and get the PRP for it. It is the best way to go. But you may want to go to an apple store for accessories, like cases they will have a better selection early on, but for most other accessories best buy will have better prices.

  • My screen cracked, but I haven't had my macbook for a full year yet. Does Apple care or warranty cover the costs of the damage?

My screen cracked, does apple care or warrant cover the costs?

Yes, unless the damage occurred due to an accident. In other words the warranty is applicable only if the crack occurred due to a manufacturing defect.

  • Apple Care Extended Plan

    Hello all,
I'm sorry that this may not be in the correct forum, but I couldn't find a forum for "general questions"... so again, forgive me.
I currently have an extended plan through the retail store where I purchased my MBP (the store is Fry's Electronics in California)... and it was $349 for 5 years.
I'm thinking about returning that plan (I have another week which I could do that ) and purchasing an extended Apple Care plan.
However, that plan is the same price for only three years. The advantage is the tech support over the phone.
I'm looking for advice from those who have/still have the Apple Pro Plan?
    Thanks, in advance!

Well there are some things to consider.
Do you think you will hang on to the Mac for 5 years?
Are you not to versed with Macs?
Does Apple offer a loaner you feel you might need in the event of a problem? NO
I am hopeful this will help you in your decision.

  • Apple sold extended warranty for ipod, will not honor it

Apple sold me an extended warranty for my ipod that was manufactured by HP. I asked several times - are you sure you support this model? They said yes. At the time, it was still under its regular warranty and starting to have problems. I thought I had plenty of time now that I had an extended warranty. But now they won't honor the warranty.
Where has the honor of standing by your word or honoring your mistakes gone? My opinion of apple has gone way down.

  • Apple Care after warranty expired?

    Hi all,
I have a Mid 2009 MacBook Pro 13" that needs a new Logic Board. I went to the Genius Bar and they said they'd fix whatever was wrong with my laptop for $280. I can only spend about $120 on parts so that's not an option.
Is it possible to buy Apple Care for my laptop? I bought the extension originally (I know that doesn't make a difference) and it's been about 2.5 years since it's been under warranty. So can I buy Apple Care even though it's no longer under warranty? It'd be cheaper to do that then pay the $280. Thanks!

"t needs a new Logic Board."
What was the issue with your logic board?
All the working boards I see on eBay are in the $300 range.
This is the only possible one I see:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-Macbook-Pro-13-A1278-2-53GHz-Logic-Board-820-2530-A -AS-IS-Broken-Fan-/181621941934?pt=US_Motherboard_CPU_Combos&hash=item2a4982e6ae
It's $134 w/ shipping but it has a bad fan connector. The fan connector would be difficult to resolder but I might have a possible solution. You'd have to be very adept at soldering tiny things.
"they said they'd fix whatever was wrong with my laptop for $280"
That's a very good price for a logic board replacement. I would have said $300.

  • Apple care and warranty

Does the one year warranty that comes with the macbook cover the same things and all that the three year Apple care does? Or does the Apple care provide more coverage.
    Thanks
    Appleyard.

If you're still in the 90-day limited warranty, there is very little benefit to purchasing AppleCare, as everything it provides except for the TechTool Deluxe CD is available for free. After the 90-day period and within the first year, you may be given the option to purchase AppleCare during a support call if the issue you're calling about is found to be in software. Should you run into problems with the computer at a later point, the cost of the repair may be much more than the cost of purchasing AppleCare. AppleCare can be purchased at any point within the first year of purchasing the machine, so you can wait a while before deciding.
You may also be able to find an AppleCare package for your computer from another source for a cheaper price, and if you paid for the machine with a credit card, the credit card company may also have placed a guarantee on the machine.

  • How long is Apple Care service warrantied for?

Apple Care replaced a hardrive in my mac mini approximately 1-2 years ago for the low price of an arm and a leg. Now the same hard drive is reporting fatal errors. Anyone know if I would be out the cost and install of another hard drive? Thankx!

Repairs done by Apple (apple warranty or not) have a time limit for a subsequent warranty or guarantee so you should call AppleCare or Apple Support's toll-free number regarding the product.
From what I recollect having read, there are variables on what is covered (if under AppleCare Plan, vs a repair done by Apple to an out-of-warranty product) as to duration of additional involvement in follow-up support to their parts or workmanship. Some fixes were covered less than a year additional coverage on a repair if under AppleCare, while others could be covered until the end of any remaining years of a current AppleCare plan; but a computer repaired by Apple though 'out-of-warranty' is another matter.
Since you state the Mini is running Leopard 10.5.8, that could place its vintage at either the end of the PPC Mini G4 production or into the intel-based CoreDue era. I have a last-model G4 Mini 1.5GHz PPC w/ 10.5.8.
You could try your luck, if technically detailed and patient, in doing the replacement task yourself; if the hard disk drive truly is the failed component this time around. Could be there is another issue behind the problem...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I have read through the terms of Apple care extended protection plan but i need clarification.

I just read some ipad horror stories about the glass getting cracked. I am not too sure how Tough these babies are, but before i splurge on an extended protection plan for my practically brand new ipad2, i would like clarification as to whether accidental coverage is implied; say for example if the glass were to get scratched, or cracked; under the extended service plan, iit be a covered repair, parts and labor ?
    Thanks for readin'

  • Warranty / Apple Care question

Does anyone know whether installing my own upgraded hard drive would void my Apple Care extended warranty?

I apologize for posting in the wrong forum but thanks for answering my question anyway.
Yes, the question is about a Powerbook G4 Laptop that I'm asking about. And the warranty expires on Feb 2, 2008. Unfortunately I've already replaced the internal hard drive so I guess that's moot anyway.
    Oh well...

  • APPLE CARE - How do I find out the date of purchase of my mac?

Can anyone point out how do I find out the exact date of purchase of my mac? I would like to purchase the apple care extended warranty and I do not recall the exact date of purchase of my mac...just before or after a full year...? Can I look it up anywhere?
Many thanks in advance for your help.
    Max

You can go to this site,
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
it tells you when your warranty expires which is 1 year after you purchased it, thats possibly the easiest way, but if you bought it from a store it may be different as it may be the date they purchased it.
With the extension program, if i purchase one now, my MBP was purchased april last year, will the extended warranty ad onto the date i purchase the extension program or from april last year when i purchased the mbp? I'm wondering because if purchase it now that effectively makes it covered for warranty for up to 4 years!
