Apple Care is useless when it comes to over the phone help...

I called applecare the other day because randomly my macbook wasnt starting up completely and would stop at a blank white screen rather then the apple logo with a spinning gear.
After being on hold for 35 minutes I finnally got to talk to a representative. The women walked me through a couple different possible fixes for my problem but none of them worked. Everything she sugested was something I either already tried or already found in the manual. After putting me on hold for another 5 minutes she said that my macbook needed to be sent in to be repaired. After just getting my macbook back from repair for a hinge problem, I was not ready to give it up just yet.
Instead of sending me a box to ship my macbook into applecare she connected me to this number that she claimed could possibly just send me a new macbook which would be fine with me since I have everything backed up. I was connected to the COMPLETELY wrong number and was speaking to somebody about order status...***? This new rep had no idea why I was transfered to that number and said I need to call applecare back and she was really sorry.
So anyways, to make a long story short I decided to take matters into my own hands and went down to the local apple store. Since the store is always busy I couldnt get help that day but the next moring I was able to get my appointment in.
The apple genious at the genious bar did something called like reseting the PRU...not sure what it actually was but it worked and took him about 3 minutes to get my macbook to work completely fine again.
Ok I'm done complaining now...but the moral is dont always trust what applecare says...I saved myself about a week being without my macbook just by taking it into someone at the apple store who knew what he was doing.

Well she told me to do the thing with holding down the "c" key and trying to boot off the disk. She also had me press another key combination while it tried to start up, but that didn't work either.
The man at the genius bar did something with the power adapter plugged into the laptop without my battery. He opened some sort of log and scanned my hard drive. All of this was not suggested by the applecare woman on the phone, and the apple genius showed me how to fix it myself if the problem happens again although I dont remember every step.

    You might want to try resetting its power management unit; see the following tech notes:

    The reason I'm suggesting this is that some startup settings are stored and preserved by a tiny battery that lasts about 5 years, inside the computer. When that battery dies, the computer may forget things like what time it is and which disk to start up from. If your Mac is around 5 years old or more, that little battery might be on its way out.
    If you can't revive the Mac, don't panic. You can remove its internal hard drive and put it inside a USB/FireWire enclosure so that it can be hooked up to another Mac, and then you can use or copy all of the files and music off of it (assuming the startup problem has nothing to do with the hard drive).

Baiscally the problem is that one comuter and one account has always been sued for eey persons itunes. Now if we want to be able to backup and use itunes on our own computers fro our iphones and such, how will all he data that is on our phones not be deleted once its plugged into a new computer?     option discovered in preferences. Really this and any feature that moves deletes or edits a users data should as far as possible be OFF BY DEFAULT. It shouldn't by default and without the users specific say do this dangerous and unnecessary thing without even letting the user know what it's doing!!! And then cause me a few hours (as i'm new to mac) searching for the option so as to switch it off. If i hadn't noticed the status cage declaring that it was copying files then i might never have twigged that this insane thing was occurring. And if i hadn't of noticed i would have been left maintaining the contents of the folder i copied the files to, the folder which as far as i was informed and so believed was also the location of the music files i was playing. How does Apple justify this 'genius' piece of software non-design? Surely it will hurt no one if this was off by default for new users - overall at least i dare say it would cause a lot less distress in the future for the unsuspecting public at large.     They already have your number and/or email address and maybe have sold it several times already to others as well. They also use number generators - software that will automatically create them - some work and some don't, they don't care, they send out millions and a few will fall for it and send them money. The only way to "hide" would be to change both and your password, but then it would happen again at some point.

    I have worked my way through the assistant and nothing works. I have tried connecting in disc mode but although the screen on the ipod is showing that the device is charged and that it is in disc mode as soon as I connect it to the computer it comes up with the error message 'please wait very low battery' and stays like that until I disconnect when it appears to be OK again. I have tried on both pc and mac.
    BTW the ipod is an ipod video not classic if that makes any difference.

    2 days ago my iphone fall into a sink full of water. Yesterday I went to apple store and ask for apple care for iphone and they have it. So, I bought it and registered it right away since my iphone still be in a garentee and still not surpass one year usage. Then they told me that my iphone problem considered in a "physical damage case" which they have a policy for claiming a new iphone and pay some fee. After I got my new iphone, they said that all the information and phone data which is registered into apple system about the phone and the user and bla bla bla will transfer to my new iphone. Today, I just check my phone serial number in "support & coverage " column and I found that all the phone data in apple system is already transfered from the old one to the new one EXCEPT the data of apple care that I already registered before I claimed the new phone. Now, the question is " What can I do ? " and " will it be transferd to my new iphone or I have to buy a new apple care for my NEW PHONE That I got from their service "

    Placing your iPhone in the toilet was the correct thing to do but you should have purchased an android phone instead. That would have solved these issues. :-)

    Make sure it's plugged in all the way, because it clicks when it's no all the way In and many users get confused. If not try turning it.

    That is the problem. You are supposed to use your own Apple ID. If the person who owns the ID is not a user of your computer and will install the apps with the ID on the computer for you, you need to buy the apps with your own Apple ID and install them instead of the versions that you do not own.

    Just to recap, this is a collection of ports I have collected over time for people who needed this information when setting up the HP ePrint app so that they could view their email from within the app.  I am certain other applications also need this information.  Although lengthy, I could not find a more comprehensive place to retrieve this information.  Feel free to post additional information, faulty information, or other related topics below as this is simply a collection of data and it would be practically impossible to test all of them.     Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
    Take all the applicable steps in this support article.  
    Step 2
    If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 3
    If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
    From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
    If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
    This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
    Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:

    Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
    from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.

    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
    Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
    Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
    If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
