Apple care on refurb mac

hi, today i got my refurb mac form currys delivered. I have checked the service on this mac on apples site and it says its covered till november this year. I have been told that if i provide my proof of purchase to apple that they normally extend the warrenty to a year from the date i purchased? i see on the page that it says in the small print that if you think the date is wrong you can email a proof of purchase to them. i can't seem to find this anywhere. Can someone please help me, thankyou.

Here is an excerpt from Apple's Refurbished Warranty FAQ:
Apple Certified Refurbished Products
Frequently Asked Questions:
(1)     What are Apple Certified Refurbished Products?
Apple Certified Refurbished Products are pre-owned Apple products that undergo Apple's stringent refurbishment process prior to being offered for sale. While only some units are returned due to technical issues, all units undergo Apple's stringent quality refurbishment process.
Each Apple Certified Refurbished Product:
is fully tested (including full burn-in testing).
is refurbished with replacement parts for any defective modules identified in testing.
is put through a thorough cleaning process and inspection.
is repackaged (including appropriate manuals, cables, new boxes, etc.).
includes the operating software originally shipped with the unit and the custom software offered with that system. See each products "Learn More" for more details.
is given a new refurbished part number and serial number.
is placed into a Final QA inspection prior to being added to sellable refurbished stock.
Refurbishment procedures follow the same basic technical guidelines as Apple's Finished Goods testing procedures.
(2)     What should I expect when I purchase an Apple Certified Refurbished Product?
Substantial savings
A fully functional unit with complete documentation
The assurance that the unit meets Apple's premiere quality standards, and that its defective components have been replaced by genuine Apple components
(3)     Can I purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan for my Apple Certified Refurbished Product?
All Apple Certified Refurbished Products are covered by Apple's One-Year Limited Warranty. For extended coverage, you have the option of purchasing the AppleCare Protection Plan with your Apple Certified Refurbished Product. The AppleCare Protection Plan extends the complimentary coverage on your Apple Certified Refurbished Product to up to three years of world-class support for Mac, and up to two years of world-class support for iPod, iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV.
Basically, it's a year from the date of purchase. If you purchased it in March 2012 it is valid until March 2013.
You may be required to validate your purchase date, that's all there is to it.  You are not required to take any action at all, unless and until you need to file a warranty claim prior to March 2013.
I hope this clarifies it for you

  • What is necessary to bring when buying apple care to a Mac Pro

I'm buying an Mac Pro and I will like to know if I put apple care a few months later what will I need to bring ? And will apple care cover ?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You don't need to bring anything. Just get AppleCare for the MacBook Pro (note that there's AppleCare for the 13-inch MacBook Pro and another one for the 15 and 17-inch MacBook Pro).
AppleCare covers all non-accidental damages caused to your Mac and extends the warranty for 3 years. It also extends the free telephone support. See > http://www.apple.com/support/products/mac.html

  • Can you buy apple care on refurbished macs book pros?

Can I buy Apple Care on refurbished MacBook Pros? What's the warranty return policy on them? Will it be in Like New Condition when I get it? This is the one I'm interested in. http://bit.ly/1MND29o

    Good afternoon JesseAlexander –
MacBook Pros are such great, reliable products and purchasing it Geek Squad Certified just makes it a fantastic deal as well! In addition to other responsibilities, I spent a few years performing the Geek Squad Certification process on products returned to Best Buy and I know it very well.
To address your first question, AppleCare is sold directly through Apple. I have read through the program Terms and Conditions and I am not able to find a solid answer. I think your best bet would be to contact Apple directly by calling 1-800-275-2273 or visiting their Apple Support website.
We do offer a 15 day Return & Exchange Promise on our Geek Squad Certified products. In addition, we offer a One Year Limited Warranty on them as well. If you are interested in added protection against normal wear and tear or drops and spills, we also offer our own Geek Squad Protection Plan available on our refurbished products. Feel free to click on the links to learn more.
Our Geek Squad Certified products typically begin as returned merchandise that customers changed their mind about. If a problem is discovered during the return, it is automatically disqualified. The returned devices are then given the once-over by store staff and turned over to specially-trained Agents who put them through a standardized process to make sure they are ready to be sold. We thoroughly test and inspect each refurbished device to make sure it works and looks as it did when it first came from the factory.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions regarding our Geek Squad Certified products, MacBook Pros, Geek Squad, or Best Buy in general.
Thanks for reaching out to us,

  • Can I still get apple care?

    Hey,
I was wondering can I still get apple care on my Mac BookPro 13" I got it in Late 2011?

The starting clock is actual date of purchase.  And they do count all of the actual day even you bought it at 6 PM.  And if you buy it online "purchase date" is when they process your card, not when you receive it.
Get AppleCare a week in advance to be sure all snafus in getting it activated will not push you beyond that first year.

  • Apple care with MBP and iphone

Hi I already have apple care with my mac book pro and wondering if i can add my iphone to it, or do i have to buy more apple care just for the phone ?

No you cannot add a product to an existing Applecare.
Applecare covers the product that you purchased.
You would have to buy Applecare for the iphone

  • Magsafe problems and apple care

    Hello folks,
It seems like my Magsafe power adapter has finally kicked the bucket. I noticed that the portion of cord nearest to the brick that gets plugged into the wall started melting and frayed wires became visible in the exposed jumble of internal stuff. The area where is melting/fraying occurred is also slightly (ever so slightly) brown. I have apple care on my mac book pro, are these kind of things covered by warranty?
Also I have discontinued using the adapter and am running only on battery power (two hours left!)

    Folks,
This is just a follow-up. I took my Macbook Pro and frazzled/melted Magsafe connector to my nearest Apple Store, which happens to be in Shibuya Tokyo. They exchanged it for a new one, almost no questions asked. Except the clerk did ask if I was "injured" by the melting. Apple care, best warranty ever, even works overseas!
Oh and it seems like wrapping the cord of the Magsafe may contibute to the melt downs. According to the clerk, I mean Genius' explanation one shouldnt wrap the cord around the Magsafe when stowing it. Hmm....

  • Renewal i phone apple care

I Have I phone 4 under apple care contract. Do I have advantages to renew this I phone in I phone 5 . My network is SFR (France) can I get a discount from Apple or Sfr.
Thanks for your help. Can my apple care be replaced? Can I extend apple care on my mac pro???
    Thanks for your help.

AppleCare cannot be renewed or extended. You can purchase AppleCare, if you purchase an iPhone 5. As far as any discount goes, not from Apple, so contact your carrier.

  • Ipod touch *3.0software upgrade  *$59-apple care

    1. Is the 3.0 software upgrade, have issues?; and/or is it worth $9.95 cost.
    2. I've usually purchased apple care for my macs; is it a good idea for the iPod Touch? **your thoughts
    (just recently purchased iPod Touch)
    Thanks

If you search the forums, you'll see some of the problems people are having with updating to 3.0. Only you can decide if it is worth the 9.95 by checking out the features. Keep in mind that developers will probably (eventually) start making their apps compatible with the newer OS.
Ask yourself if you'd be willing to spend the $$ to repair and/or replace your iPod Touch if necessary. I'd probably purchase the Apple Care. The time slipped by for me, but should something happen to my 1G Touch, I would use the opportunity to replace it with a newer version with more capacity.

  • Apple Care Protection Plan for used Macs

I am planning to buy a used Mac. If it is out of warranty and not already under an Apple Care Protection Plan, can I buy some type of Care Plan for it?
    thanks,
    john

You might want to look into buying a refurb from Apple. They come with a one-year warranty, and if I am not mistaken you can also purchased AppleCare for refurbs:

  • APPLE CARE - How do I find out the date of purchase of my mac?

Can anyone point out how do I find out the exact date of purchase of my mac? I would like to purchase the apple care extended warranty and I do not recall the exact date of purchase of my mac...just before or after a full year...? Can I look it up anywhere?
Many thanks in advance for your help.
    Max

You can go to this site,
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
it tells you when your warranty expires which is 1 year after you purchased it, thats possibly the easiest way, but if you bought it from a store it may be different as it may be the date they purchased it.
With the extension program, if i purchase one now, my MBP was purchased april last year, will the extended warranty ad onto the date i purchase the extension program or from april last year when i purchased the mbp? I'm wondering because if purchase it now that effectively makes it covered for warranty for up to 4 years!

  • Mac Pro and Apple Care

    Hi,
I am taking my Mac Pro to the Apple store tomorrow to get a few things repaired under apple care such as the Super Drive and one of the USB ports which I can not get to work. On my case one of the rivets fom the front of the case is also loose... Any advice ?
Since my HD is encrypted with PGP, Would I need to add a bootable HD in order for the techs to be able to work on my machine?
Thanks in advance for all your help

Loose rivets are considered to be wear and tear, meaning an out-of-pocket repair. Your best bet is to get some strong contact cement, set the rivet, and let it dry for a day.
As for a boot drive, any reasonably prepared technician will have their own boot drive to start from if the internal one is no good. Just be sure to mention your HD's particulars, or else they may unknowingly view it as a "problem" which requires "fixing" (re: horrible unspeakable things happening to your data).

  • A cd is blocked in my 3 month old Mac, still under Apple care. Apple said that to mend the Mac they need at least 3 to 10 days. I work for a media company and i ALWAYS use it. IS APPLE MENT TO GIVE ME A MAC while mine is mending? Thanks for your help.

As in my initial Question: A cd is blocked inside my mac, doent come out. My mac is still under apple care and its 3 monts old. iI ALWAYS USE MY MAC SINCE I WORK FOR A TELEVISION MEDIA COMPANY. SO IS Apple MENT TO GIVE ME ANOTER ONE WHILST MINE IS MENDING??
    PLEASE HELP ME OUT!
    thanks you for your time
    Kind Regards
    Mattia

Please be advised that we are individual users just like you.  I understand and appreciate that you use your MBP in a vocational environment and evidently it is critical for you to have a functioning MBP at all times.  Unlike some car dealers, Apple does not have a 'loaner' program.
You may be able to talk the local Apple store to lend you one, but they are under no obligation to do so.  As BobTHeFisherman suggests, the only reasonable solution for the current situation and possible future ones, is to have a backup MBP, ready to be used if the primary one fails.
Even if you got a 'loaner', I question the practicality of setting it up and transferring data in a timely manner that would enable it to be used for your job.  The quick and temporary solution to you situation is to purchase an external DVD drive that can substitute for the internal one with the entrenched CD.  This should permit you to continue your work uninterrupted with all functions of your MBP still at your disposal.
    Ciao.
