Apple Care on used MacBook

I bought a used early 2008 MacBook on eBay. I used the Apple Online Service Assistant to check if it was still under warranty and found that it is under Apple Care until August 2011. Does the Apple Care automaticly transfer to me now since I don't have original receipt for it? If I take it in will they fix it in anyway? Or can I use the eBay receipt for it?

Hi frederic1943,
As khassani indicated, the ownership information will need to be transferred. This is done by the previous owner contacting Apple via the methods listed.
The good news, yes you are covered... rather "your machine" is covered. You're eligible for support over phone and in-store support at any other Apple Authorized Service Provider and Apple Retail Store within the T&Cs of Applecare.
But certainly, just for good housekeeping practices, recommend getting the information transferred over from the previous owner to you.

  • Can I get apple care on used macbook pro

Can I purchase an applecare plan for a used Macbook Pro?

Provided that the used mac is still under its original 1 year warranty yes. Once past that first year no.

  • Apple Care Protection Plan MacBook / MacBook Air

I had just purchased the Apple Care Protection Plan (ACPP) MacBook / MacBook Air without knowing that there's a difference between ACPP for MacBook / MacBook Air and ACPP for MacBook Pro. Since I'm using a MacBook Pro, I cannot register the unique 15-digit registration number as it was meant for a MacBook.
Is it possible for me to upgrade the plan to MacBook Pro and pay the difference or can I get a refund and then purchase the MacBook Pro version?
    Thanks.

Probably. Depending on how you purchased it, you may be able to "return" it and buy the MBP plan. You may need to contact Apple to get that done.
    Hope this helps...

  • Can i still get apple care for my macbook pro 13 inch?

I purchased the macbook pro 13 inch at the apple store on july of 2009. I opted to not get the apple care and now i kind of want it. Can i still get the apple care even if the macbook pro was purchased two years ago?
also how long will the apple care last?
and so if i take in my macbook pro with a problem and it requires repair the apple care will cover that and i wont have to pay as much as i would without the apple care?

Sorry, no. Apple-care must be purchased within the first year of ownership.

  • Apple Care Registration for Macbook Pro

Hi all, I bought a Apple care together with my MACbook Pro, but the thing is once I register it doesnt go through after "3. Provide your address information" item 1 and 2 is finished and has a check already but doesnt go through. No next button or ok button. But some details are seen at the left. The only thing clickable is the signout. I signed out. Then signed in again and it tells me I have no apple care registration. Any ideas? Thanks!

If you're still having issue and haven't received email confirmation trying ringing Apple support to register it with them:

  • Apple Care Coverage for Macbook Pro

    Hello,
Last year I opened thread about Apple Care Coverage... and finally I did, purchase apple care for my mbp mid 2012.
unfortunately, my macbook pro date & time keep changing each time I turned it off. I already tried to reset SMC but it is still not working.
looks like my battery died (like PC, it has battery to save date & time) right? also, I have some issues with my display, it showed something (like dead pixel) but only when I put my display on full  black color, pixels is showing kind of white/grayish color.
Plus my backlight keyboard (some of its keyboard tuts) is not so bright like normal.
those 3 problems above, Can I claim it to Apple Authorized Reseller (Indonesia doesn't have Apple Store). to fix it for me for free? or will I get charged for price?
does Apple Care cover up these 3 problems?

The only thing that I can think of that may not be replaceable under AppleCare is the battery: Apple considers the batteries on MacBook Pros to be 'consumables.' But it's worth a shot.
You may not have problems getting the battery replaced and your AppleCare should take care of the other problems.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Can you use macbook pro apple care on you new macbook air?

If i have apple care for my macbook pro 13", if i buy a macbook air, can i use the apple care that i have on the macbook pro for my macbook air instead of buying a new applecare?

    Welcome to Apple Communities
AppleCare is different for the Macs, so you can't use the MacBook Pro AppleCare in the MacBook Air because it won't be added

  • I don't have a receipt for my Macbook Pro - will Apple Care cover me?

I bought my Macbook Pro from someone who no longer had the receipt. It is the Dec 2011 model. I registered it and called Apple yesterday for help because the unit wouldn't charge. The guy told me about the Apple Care protection plan. I explained I didn't have a receipt and he said it was fine... when he had entered the serial number he could see the unit was registered to me. So I purchased the warranty.
This morning I received an email with confirmation of the purchase and letting me know that I would need my original receipt for the Macbook Pro if I needed it serviced. Anyone know which one it is?

I had my old macbook serviced a while back and I didn't have the receipt with me.
But because it was registered to me and my info on my Apple ID matches my stuff, they took it in for service without my receipt.
I guess it's up to whoever you deal with at the Apple Store when you need servicing.  It is however, best to have your receipt.  If all you have is the Apple Care receipt, use  that one, since they sold it to you and it corresponds to you MBP's serial number.

  • Are used MacBooks covered with Apple warranty in 1-year from initial purchase?

    Hello!
Short story: Can someone tell me if used MacBooks are covered with Apple warranty if it is still within 1-year warranty period?
Long story: Purchased a MacBook on Amazon that was marked as "used" but item arrived absolutely new, factory sealed. Activated it 5th June. Warranty coverrage info on Apple page says it IS coevered with warranty and it complies a warranty rule to have an invoice. Am I right that I have this item covered wtih warranty? Can I activate an Apple Care for this MacBook?

Yes, i did check the coverage on the like stated above and it says that item has warranty coverage for 1 year (till 5th June 2014).
But maybe there's a catch concerning used items or the second owner. I searched the Apple Warranty agreement but didn't find anything concerning "used" or "new" - only that I must have an invoice or receipt.
I have some doubts becvause device condition stated in invoice as "used". (But the device arrived abolutely new - package was still in factory shrink wrap.)
    Why all this matters:
I'm going to purchase an Apple Care Protection Plan, but I have doubts that it is eligible for it because item bought was stated as "used" (though it was new in fact)

  • If your macbook has a small dent, does that mean buying apple care plus is useless?

i did not buy my macbook from apple however it is eligible for apple care. My macbook has a small dent but i don't care about that since it works fine. My problem is i want to buy apple care plus just incase of hardware issues. If my macbook has a small dent and i buy apple care does that mean whatever hardware issues i have will be ignored because technically its " damaged " ?

I suggest that you visit an Apple store and show the management the MBP and get an opinion from them.  If they say that it is eligible, get the opinion in writing.
    Ciao.

  • Is there a way to find out my Apple Care serial?

Firstly, I'm new here so if this is in the wrong section then I apologise now
I recieved my MacBook Pro 13" in September '10 for my 18th Birthday off my Dad. My Dad says he remembers buying Apple Care for my MacBook but because I was an Apple N00b back then I didnt realise that I had to register it online with the code from the box, and my Dad is not sure where the Apple Care box is or if he even has it anymore!! Is there anyway to check if he did buy Apple Care without having to turn the house upside down and find the receipt? And if so is there anyway to locate that serial?
I have logged onto both my Apple account and my Dad's and neither of us of have the Mac registered.
If I went into an Apple Store with my Mac would they be able to tell me?
Any help or advice on this would be great, so thanks in advance!
    Kieran.

  • Apple Care on a gifted Cinema Display

What the subject says, i got a 30inch Cinema Display for Christmas last year from my boss.
So I'm doubting of getting Apple Care for this display, but i don't have any receipt or something like
that, would that be any problem with taking the Apple Care and using the Apple Care. I can not find anything in the disclaimer of Apple Care about this. Many thanks in advanced.

    Go here:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
and type in the serial number of the display (bottom of the stand).
the page should tell you the expiration date on your original 1 year warranty. if you still have it, get applecare:)
    hope that helps

  • Apple care protection

hello. i'm going to buy apple care protection for macbook pro online but im a bit confused about these 2 products. what is the difference between applecare protection plan for macbook pro http://store.apple.com/my-k12/product/MD013FE/A/applecare-protection-plan-for-ma cbook-pro and this applecare protection http://store.apple.com/my-k12/product/MD015FE/A/macbook-macbook-air-13-macbook-p ro-applecare-protection-plan .

It looks like the second link is for a macbook air or 13" macbook pro.  I'm assuming the first link is for the 15" macbook pro.

  • How do I see the Apple Care term length?

I purchased an Apple Care for my macbook pro. How do I see how much time is left on my contract?
Also is this Transferable when i sell it? And how do they prove it's their protection plan?

If you've activate correctly you should get it reported by the Apple support system when you enter your MBP serial number. You'll find it at the bottom of the Apple Support web page…
    http://www.apple.com/support/
And yes, it's transferrable as it is attached to your system's serial number and not you.
