Apple Care plan for used Macbooks

Hi,
Some when in the Summer I'm considering purchasing a used Macbook preferably a mid 2012 model or even a 2013 model. BUT from what i have been told is you cannot purchase an apple care plan unless the Macbook is still under the manerfacuters warrantly. Just need someone to confirm this.
Thanks for your help.

That's correct.

  • Apple Care plan for MBP

Does anyone know why the Apple care plan for MBP is more expensive than all the other Apple care plans? Even the Mac Pro has a cheaper plan. It doesn't make sense to me.

It's obvious to me. My Mac Pro sits in one place, undisturbed. It has a generous, efficient cooling system. It's easy to service.
My MacBook Pro is carried around town. It's jostled back and forth in my bag as I walk, or as my car goes over bumps. I'm always putting it on tables, creating a slight impact each time. It goes through a lot more power/temperature cycles as it sleeps and wakes. The components are smaller, tightly packed, more expensive to disassemble and service. A laptop goes through a lot more stress and trauma than a desktop, so a laptop is much more prone to failure.

  • Can an apple care plan be used for a phone that was previously broken and was later turned in for a new undamaged phone?

I dropped my iphone and the screen cracked so I am paying $200 to exchange it in the mail for a fixed phone.  I know the apple care plan can only be bought for new phones, but will this phone count as a "new phone" and be able to be covered under apple care?

I see ads on Amazon selling "used" Apple care, If this is decided by the laws of a country, does anyone know if it applies to the US?  I'm interested in covering my MBA and I could save about $100 if I went for one of these "used" deals on Apple Care.

  • Apple Care Plan For iphone 3GS

Having bought the 3GS on launch day in the UK.
Does anyone think the care plan is a good idea and worth the £58.
Please advise the reasons why, or why not?
    Cheers

You have up to one year after purchase to buy AppleCare. Wait 11½ months and if the rumours about the next iPhone make you think you will be upgrading to it, then don't buy AppleCare. If you think you will keep your 3GS for another year, then you can buy it.
Interesting strategy. But I believe Applecare starts having advantages at the 90-day mark when the included tech support ends. I assume that if you have to visit a Genius Bar or call tech support after 90 days you pay for it if no Applecare.
I believe in getting Applecare and have for all my Apple products. On my iBook and first MacBook it was a good decision. The MacBook was sent off for service twice, both after the end of the one-year warranty, the iBook once. My iPhone 2G worked flawlessly for 23 months and still is good. All it would take is one repair of an iPhone out of warranty to more than equal the cost of Applecare, I suspect.
I should add that I generally don't upgrade a phone before the 2-year mark (skipped the 3G) and keep a laptop for at least two years (my iBook, well out of warranty, is now being used by a friend .. and my original black MacBook is now owned by my grandson who uses it to develop iPhone software). With an Aluminum MacBook purchased in Oct 2008 I can't really justify upgrading to the new 13" MacBook Pro quite yet, alas!

  • Apple care plan for ipod

My parents bought me my ipod dec 2011 and 2 months later the home button stopped working so I set up an appointment to have it fixed but when I went in I had to get a refurbished one so thats what I did. When I asked the guy if I should get the care plan he said not at the moment because I was getting a refurb so it would extend the warranty for 3 months. The 3 months is almost up so I tried to buy the care plan and now I cant for some reason. I called apple support and they said it has already been a year when it hasnt because dec 2011-dec 2012 is a year. I was mislead first of all and second of all I think they have the wrong information.
I am not sure who to contact because apple support told me there is nothing I can do which I don't believe. If someone could lead me to the right place that would be great. Thank you!

    - The warranty on an iPod received as a warranty replacement is 90 doays or the remainder of the original warranty, which ever is greater.
    - If you enter the SN of the iPod here what does it say?
Apple - Support - Check Your Service and Support Coverage
    - What doumentation do you have for purchasing the original iPod?
    - For receiving the replacement iPod.
If the documentation shows that the original iPod was purchased in Dec 2011, I would call Apple and explain when you still have a warranty in effect and that you can purchase AppleCare.
    - It could be that the replacment iPOd wa originally purchased over a year ago and they messed up on the pagerwork.  Apple's refurbishment page includes this statement:
is given a new refurbished part number and serial number.

  • Well i have the apple care plan for my iphone and i lost my headphone what do i do to get another pair? Can i still get them for free?

I would greatly appreciate any help with this thank you!

I'm afraid you will have to buy another pair.  Apple Care is an extended warranty, it does not cover Theft, Loss, Damage by user.

  • Buy apple care plan help fix everything for the imac osx lion 10.7.5

Hi apple pplz.. I have a question to ask you. If i buy renewal my apple care plan for imac osx lion 10.7.5. Sometime in the future, if my computer is broken down or having issue on the computer. What the apple care plan coverage all the internal part if anything goes wrong it. Cause i don't want to pay for a huge money just for fixing the parts if cost more $1000, worth more than i bought it brand new??

Apple is not here, you're talking to other users.
If you buy the AppleCare warranty, it will cover any defects in the computer, just like the included one-year warranty. Note that you must purchase AppleCare within one year of the purchase of the Mac.

  • Apple Care Protection for previously purchased iPod...

Is it possible to buy an Apple Care plan for an iPod that has already been purchased and not purchased from an Apple Store?

It's over the 1 year warranty by about a month and a half. Would you recommend I try and have Apple service it or take it back to Best Buy?
(It has already been determined through a previous thread of mine that it NEEDS to be serviced or replaced so I know something must be done)
    THANKS!

  • My Apple care is about to expire. Can I buy another service protection plan for my MacBook Pro

My Apple care is about to expire. Can I buy another service protection plan for my MacBook Pro

    Not from Apple.

  • Which Apple Care plan do I buy for my MacBook?

I fudged on buying Apple Care when I purchased my laptop in 8/06, but with the "complimentary" warranty running out, I want to sign up. Yes, I know my Apple Store or Apple online will sell me the correct one but I'm shopping around on Amazon and eBay for cheaper prices and the model numbers quoted there don't seem to match those here: http://support.apple.com/specs/macbook/macbook.html
I thought I was MA519LL/A. Can someone clarify?
    MacBook 13" White 2.0 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   512 memory cache

There is only one AppleCare plan for a MacBook, so if the product listing says it's for a MacBook, it should be fine. Just make sure it's for a MacBook, not the MacBook Pro. Here's the link to the plan on Amazon:

  • Apple Care Protection Plan for used Macs

I am planning to buy a used Mac. If it is out of warranty and not already under an Apple Care Protection Plan, can I buy some type of Care Plan for it?
    thanks,
    john

You might want to look into buying a refurb from Apple. They come with a one-year warranty, and if I am not mistaken you can also purchased AppleCare for refurbs:

  • Macbook pro batterie vs apple care plan

Is the batterie of a macbook pro covered by the apple care plan???

Yes, the same as any other hardware component of your Mac.
It's best to contact AppleCare itself, directly, for questions like this. Especially if you have a problem. The worst thing that will happen if you call AppleCare during your warranty period is that they will claim your specific problem is not covered.

  • Apple Care Registration for Macbook Pro

Hi all, I bought a Apple care together with my MACbook Pro, but the thing is once I register it doesnt go through after "3. Provide your address information" item 1 and 2 is finished and has a check already but doesnt go through. No next button or ok button. But some details are seen at the left. The only thing clickable is the signout. I signed out. Then signed in again and it tells me I have no apple care registration. Any ideas? Thanks!

If you're still having issue and haven't received email confirmation trying ringing Apple support to register it with them:

  • Is Apple Care plan necessary?

I've only recently discovered this discussion board. What a great place to learn, and thank you to all you experts out there.
I am planning to purchase a new MacBook of my own in Oct with the latest OS. I was considereing adding on the Apple Care plan. Is it worth the $$? Seems so many of you help with tech stuff some of us novices have.

The nice thing is you can buy it anytime during the first year. It allows you to use the phone support for more than 90 days with no extra cost. It extends hardware and some software coverage an addition two years.
You can buy it cheaper here.

I plan on buying it before my year is up.
