Apple Care vs. Assurion through Verizon?

Which is the better bet for insuring a new iPhone 5? Apple Care or Assurion through Verizon? Or both?

Asurion is a scam. I paid $9.99 a month for almost 2 years to insure my iPhone 4S. Today my phone got stolen. I called Asurion. They told me I have to pay $169 for deductible. When Verizon sells the insurance, they never mention the deductible. It's total **. I go to Verizon site for more info about Asurion, it does not say anything about $169 deductible ($199 for 32-64GB). There is a link to full terms and condition. When I clicked on it, it says page can not be displayed.
Since I'm a couple of months away from a discounted upgrade, Verizon offered me $300 off on new phone. So I'd end up paying the same $169 or even less for a new iPhone 4S. The Asurion coverage I paid all these months are good for nothing.
I suspected Verizon gets a percentage from Asurion. I will file a complaint with BBB.
Get apple care. Avoid Asurion like a plague. I've heard people say Asurion gave them refurbished phones after charging them deductible. Google it. A lots of horror stories.

  • Transferring apple care to a new user

    Hi,
I sold a MacBook Pro with over 2 years of Apple care - but looking through the support pages I cannot find a simple answer to how to do it. I have the serial no and the policy no - just don't know where to do it ....

You have to transfer AppleCare to the new owner. Read here:

With Transfer of Covered Equipment to New Owner. Subject to the restrictions set
forth below, you may make a one-time permanent transfer of all of your rights under the
Plan to another party, provided that: (a) the transfer includes the original Proof of
Purchase, the Plan's Confirmation and all of the Plan's packaging material, including
printed materials and these Terms and Conditions; (b) you notify Apple of the transfer
by sending, faxing or e-mailing notice of transfer to Apple Inc., ATTN: Agreement
Administration, MS: 217AC, 2511 Laguna Blvd, Elk Grove, CA 95758, U.S., fax number

the Plan accepts the Terms and Conditions of the Plan. When notifying Apple of the
transfer of the Plan, you must provide the Plan Agreement Number, the serial number of
the Covered Equipment being transferred and the name, address, telephone number and

  • HT5691 Can i purchase apple care for iphone bought through verizon?

Can i purchase apple care for iphone bought through verizon?  I want to upgarde thru verizon but don't want to pay a monthly fee with them for warranty. Verizon doesnt offer apple care on their website.

    Incorrect sir.
After the 30 days YOU can still purchase Apple protection plan for $69, which extends your phone support just like AC+ and your hardware warranty just like AC+ it also gives you a a free battery replacement.
The only difference between AC+ and Apple protection plan is that AC+ covers accidental damage.
Customer who do not purchase AC+ or APP will then have to purchase a Pay-Per-Incident which is a $20 fee for each issue calling in on.
Pay-Per-Incidents or PPI's last for 30 days on the one issue that they were purchased on.
    No, you cannot.
An iPhone in the USA is eligible for AppleCare+ and ONLY AppleCare+.  AppleCare+ completely replaced AppleCare for iPhones when it was announced.  Check Apples own warranty pages on the web site.  You CANNOT buy AppleCare for an iPhone in the USA - ever.  It is not offered for iPhones any longer.

  • Can I still get Apple Care if I buy through another website?

I was thinking of buying my new Mac through this Venue website. If I do that, will I still be able to purchase the AppleCare through Apple for it?

Yes you are still eligible to purchase apple care as long as the computer's original purchase date wasn't more than 1 year ago.
If you're buying a new computer that shouldn't be an issue. If you are buying a used computer it may be an issue.

  • HT4528 I just ordered 2 new iPhones from Verizon.  Can I purchase Apple Care on them?

I just ordered new iPhones from Verizon. Can I purchase Apple Care on these since I didn't get them directly from Apple?

Yes. See the information here, particularly the "Important Notes":
    http://www.apple.com/support/products/iphone.html
Since you haven't yet taken delivery of the iPhones I'm not sure how Apple will handle it.

  • Is my Iphone 4 charger covered under warranty through my apple care plan

Is my Iphone charger covered under warranty through my apple care plan?

It depends on the nature of the problem. If the charger is damaged because of the user, it will not be replaced for free, but if it's a manufacturer defect, then it will be replaced

  • If i buy iPhone from verizon can i still purchase apple care

If I buy my phone from verizon can I still purchase apple care plan from apple?

You sound really certain about this -- but Apple's current info page for AppleCare+ says "AppleCare+ must be purchased together with new covered equipment." (bottom of this page: http://www.apple.com/support/products/iphone.html )
And AppleCare isn't one of the "accessories" Verizon seems to let you order with the phone. So wouldn't this mean it's impossible to order it from Verizon and get AppleCare?

  • Recieving a phone from verizon with your apple care plan

do you get a referbished phone and how do i know if it is referbished and why do we get those kind a not a new one if our phone is bad because of manufacture error?

        Great question dinkeldorf!
If you have purchased Apple Care, then you will want to have the device evaluated and replaced direct by Apple. Verizon Wireless does not handle Apple care.
However, if its being replaced under the standard warranty from Apple, we do handle that! Under the warranty, a certified like new device of the same make/model is offered. The devices are supplied by Apple to Verizon Wireless. You can find out more on the certified like new device you'll receive right on line: http://bit.ly/121kUia. Let me know if you have any further questions.

  • Verizon insurance and apple care

I have Verizon's 10.99 insurance right now. Do u think it's good to have both Verizon's and apple care or should I just stick with verizons?
    Eric

I'll try again to explain this. The Verizon package for $10.99 has two components. One covers accidental damage, loss, theft etc. The other is basically an extended warranty. You can buy either or both from Verizon. Applecare is equivalent to the extended warranty part, but it does not duplicate the coverage for accidental damage, theft etc. If you buy Verizon's complete coverage and Applecare, you essentially have double coverage for the extended warranty. Applecare is not the same as a visit to your local Genius. It includes a second year of coverage on the hardware.
As others have pointed out, several other companies provide iPhone insurance with varying coverage and prices. It all depends on how much risk you want to take.

  • Verizon Insurance vs. Apple Care

My tax return this year is going towards iPhones for my wife and I. My question is will I get the same or better service if I opt out of one of Verizon's insurance plans and go with Apple Care? I'll be saving about $250 over 2 years if I go with Apple Care.

The general rule on Insurance is this:
If you can afford to take the loss, without it affecting your lifestyle you are usually better off not to buy insurance for that item.
I have purchased about 50 Mac's, (mostly Mac Pros) I never got the insurance, never needed it.

  • Apple Care vs Verizon's Total Equipment Coverage

Which makes more sense for a 32GB 4S?

Depends on the person. Are you accident prone? Would you want to (or be able to) pay full retail for a replacement phone if you damaged it in some way that wasn't covered under the 1 yr manufacturer's warranty? If your answer is yes to that then you might want to get the TEC coverage. If you aren't worried about damaging or losing your phone and you can afford to or wouldn't mind paying a lot for a replacement then skip it. Apple Care...do you need access to customer service over the phone more often than not? If so, Apple Care is good...otherwise, after the initial 90 days you will have to pay for phone support calls. If you worry about defects occurring after the 1 year warranty then Apple Care gives you that extra year. Just depends on what your needs are. I didn't get either...I was willing to risk the need to buy another phone if something happens. I also prefer to pay what I would for monthly coverage to a savings account set up to cover "luxury item rainy days" (things like my wireless phone that isn't required but I want it versus rainy day savings for home or car repairs for example).

  • Apple Care and Asurion?

I've had my iphone 4s since May 2012 and have had Verizon's Asurion insurance to cover me in case of damage. A friend recently gave me Apple Care Protection Plan as a gift. Can I activate this Apple Care in addition to the insurance I have through Asurion? Will I have double protection or does one cancel the other out?
    Thanks!

Apple Care can only be added during the first year, while the original warranty is still enforced. Apple Care+ has to be added within, I believe, 30 days. Even if you could activate Apple Care, it doesn't cover damage or loss/theft. Apple Care+ covers damage but not loss or theft.

  • Apple Care+ Purchase

You now have to purchase Apple Care+ at the time you purchase the phone.  Does anyone know if this will be something you can just click on to buy when you go to preorder the Iphone 4S on Friday?

I had the same problem, and there are many conflicting responses from various sources.
I actually called verizon customer service to ask about this and I was told they did not offer it at this time.
The person I spoke with had no idea what applecare+ was, and I had to explain to her the difference between it and the standard applecare (which does not cover the 4S).
If you search for the issue on apple's community boards, there are all sorts of responses. The most common response is that we are supposed to bring our boxed, unactivated phone in to a brick and mortar apple store and they will allow us to purchase applecare+ then.
However, I have been to two brick and mortar apple stores (Honolulu, HI), and spoke with the managers for each store, and they did not even know that we are not able to purchase applecare+ through carrier website pre-orders. One of them told me to cancel my order and preorder through them (which actually will reset your data package to one of their limited plans, even if you are supposed to be able to "grandfather in" your unlimited data plan). Another told me to bring my phone in on the release date and return and re-buy the phone.
Luckily, one of the malls I went to has an apple store and a verizon kiosk. I went over to verizon, and again, the salesperson had no idea that applecare+ was not available on the website. Another salesperson jumped in and said that on October 12th a toll-free number would be released for all pre-ordered 4S phones purchased through carrier websites, which would allow us to buy applecare+.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

  • If I go through Verizon for a warranty claim, will that void my AppleCare ?

If I go through Verizon for a warranty claim under the 1yr warranty and they ship me out a replacement device, will that void my AppleCare+? The reason I ask is because I picked up AppleCare plus, but the nearest Apple store is close to an hour away, and I figure it'll be more convienent to hit up the Verizon Store (and definitely quicker vs. doing it over the phone).
    - VDubb

Apple handles ALL hardware support for iPhones.
The only reason to take it to VZW would be an insurance claim if you have insurance on the device through them.
I would not take it to VZW otherwise as it could potentially cause issues in the future if you needed to utilize the Apple Care Protection + that you purchased.
