Apple Certified Refurbished iPod shuffle

I was thinking about buying my girlfriend a Apple Certified Refurbished iPod shuffle. What are the advantages and disadvantages of buys one. And is the 512 a good one to get for the money.

possible blemishes basically other wise they should be good to go now the battery will be a bit used so it won't go through 500 charge cycles instead about 450 at the least. but that's about it but a $20 difference is for you to decide.

  • Refurbished ipod shuffle warranty

    Hi,
I have just bought a refurbished ipod shuffle online last week , and went to check the left over warranty days online today. However, the result shows:
Our records indicate that your product is covered under Apple’s Limited Warranty and your estimated date of purchase was 19-Dec-05. Based on this data, your product will be covered by Apple service warranty for 238 more days.
The above does not reflect the actual purchase date. Is there anything i can do to inform Apple about the incorrect estimated date of purchase, and change to the correct date. What should i do now???
    Thks in advance...

  • Apple Certified Refurbished iMac

I am considering purchasing a Apple Certified Refurbished iMac from the Apple store. The refurbished iMac 20-inch 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo for 1099 sounds like a good deal. If you have purchased a refurbished mac, how satisfied are you with it.

I have a 17-inch iMac (2006 model) that I purchased in 2008 from the refurb page. It's the best Mac I've ever owned. Perfect operationally, and looks 100% new. I also bought two refurb iPods in the last two years, and they worked and looked like new as well.
Actually, there must be quite a few buyers from that page. Whenever the 17-inch 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo model came up, they were sold out within a few hours and were gone again, before I decided to buy. After deciding to buy one, I kept checking until I saw it again a week later and purchased it immediately. $849 was an excellent deal. I wanted the smallest screen, because I connected my existing (exceptional) 1600x1200 display to it as my main monitor. The iMac's screen acts as my second monitor, off to the right. This was my solution for Apple not offering a mid-range (not all-in-one) desktop. It turned out to be an excellent solution (even better than the "missing" mid-range desktop Mac), because I wanted a good second display anyway.

  • How do i register an apple product. like iPod Shuffle.

Hi guys could u guys please guide me on registering an Apple Product like iPod shuffle.

The original owner will have to un-register it first.
If you bought a used Mac, you may have problems if the seller does not erase the hard drive and sell it with the original OS version.

  • Apple Certified Refurbished Mini - refurb process

Does anybody know what the Apple Certified Refurbished process consists of? The reason I ask is that I just received an Apple Cert. Refurb. Mac Mini today. It was DOA. I've talked to Apple Care and a replacement will be sent as soon as FedEx scans the return label for the DOA machine. I have to wait for that to arrive in my email but that is a good thing. And I was only on hold for about 15 minutes.
I had my doubts about getting an Apple refurb. but after thinking about it, I thought it would mean almost zero chance of getting a bad Mini. I assumed that an Apple Cert. Refurb. would be thoroughly gone over before being sold. I guess I was wrong. Do they even try to boot these machines that are supposed to be thoroughly gone over? Could something have happened during shipment? I know it will be hard to say exactly what happened but I now have my doubts about trying any Apple refurbs. in the future. And that's too bad because you can save plenty of money on some of them. But all the savings in the world doesn't matter if the computer doesn't work.
Anyone have a similar experience or know what is involved in the refurb. process? I was excited to get my Mini today. Now I have to wait until a replacement arrives. I hate waiting for things like this.
    Eric S.

This is a bit like asking if anyone has ever had a problem with a new Ford - there are bound to be those who have had bad experiences just as there are certain to be those who haven't. Given this is a forum where people typically come to report that they have a problem and to ask for help, the predominance of posters are going to reflect on problematic issues rather than that their systems have run perfectly.
My own experiences of Apple refurb products has been generally good, after buying a number of items that way over the last couple of years or so. My only issue has been with a G4 iBook that suffered a display fault, which by it's rather obvious nature when the system was first run, rather suggested it had not been tested before being sold. But as with their new products that arrive faulty, Apple responded promptly and resolved the issue. I must say that I would not hesitate to buy a refurb if there was a product I was interested in at a satisfactory price - my problem is that I don't see much in the way of satisfactory prices in the refurb store - particularly not on minis!

  • Apple Certified Refurbished Mac Book Pro RAM

    Hello,
is it possible to buy an Apple Certified Refurbished Mac Book Pro listed with 1GB Ram, with 2GB of RAM?
    Thanks for help,
    lg
    Tina

Sounds like BTO. And ask Apple or look in the MBP forum.
Often times, and no guarantee, the Specials do come with more RAM and could have larger hard drive than what is listed.
Otherwise, might want to just place an order for new and configure yourself, or look at what Crucial, Ramjet etc offer in upgrades which may be easy DIY. There are manuals for all Macs from the "Manuals" link at the top.

  • Why is my refurbished Ipod shuffle 2nd generation mounting and unmounting?

I got a 2nd generation Ipod shuffle for christmas and I plugged it into my computer and it wont stay mounted.
It will mount and then a few seconds later it will unmount, then a few seconds later it will mount again, and then unmount and so on and so fourth. What can I do to successfully mount my ipod so i can put music on my christmas gift?

Do you have the latest version of iTunes installed?
Are you using the cable that originally came with the shuffle?  It has a mini-dock on shuffle end of the cable.
As a test, you should try shutting down your computer and disconnecting all USB devices, including hub.  You can keep standard keyboard and mouse connected, if normally used.  If your computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter, so that it is not running on battery power.  Do this to reset the shuffle

Start up the computer, run iTunes, and connect shuffle to a direct USB port on the computer.

  • Refurbished iPod Shuffle

Hi, new to Apple Discussions, I was wondering is anyone here has ever bought a refurbished shuffle from the on-line Apple Store. If so did it have any of the same problems that seem to plaque the shuffle in this forum. The apple refurbishment process states they are fully tested so I was wondering if that was a way of getting a working model and at the same time save a few bucks. Thanks in advance for any responses.

The problems that 'plague' the iPS in these forums is primarily a plague on the XP users and frequently has a lot more to do with their system than with the little white box. It's simply more complex, difficult, and frustrating to make things work in the Windoze enviroment — but it seems as though they should be used to that and simply make allowances.
The iPod sections of Apple Support contain a wealth of information which, frankly, many of the folks posting here seem never to have stumbled across. That will fix up most glitches and, for those that don't (they are simple little machines, but they can break or otherwise go bad) Apple is pretty good at replacing them.
For the record, mine has been functioning pretty much seamlessly, flawlessly, and continuously for more than a year.
To answer your question: Everyone who has ever sent their Shuffle in for a battery replacement (which costs the same as buying a refurbished one), or has has sent one in for repair, has gotten a refurbished model back from Apple (when you send yours in you don't get the same one back). Most of those people wind up being happy with their replacement which, to me, means that it should work okay for you also.

  • Cheap alternative to apple's trashy ipod shuffle dock

I am gonna give a try on this. It is just a toonie (2 dollars)
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4349

Let's not forget that if you use a good ole mini-to-vga adapter (Apple brand or other), you could connect an iPod, by way of the head phone jack, to composite RCA plugs on the TV. The Apple cord is 6-ft long, but longer cords (or extensions) should be available. The cost would be $20. I can tell you that shows from iTunes can look and sound great when played from an iPod to a TV when using such a cord. My TV is a 32" LCD (an inexpensive Protron model). The resolution for composite connection is standard 480 interlaced but it looks surprisingly good. I'd say nearly as good as a decent DVD player. With a video iPod, you would have portability, and the possibility of future devices (e.g., docks) that will come closer to providing functions that you really want.

  • Apple Certified Refurbished Mini - Update

Since my first topic on this was locked, I will post an update here. This one may get locked as well.
The Mini is working fine now. I'm not the patient sort so I decided to pop the top off the Mini and have a look. It didn't take but a few seconds to see what the problem was. The memory module was not fully seated on one end. I pushed it all the way in until it locked, put the top back on and it booted without incident.
Once it booted up and I created the user account, etc., I was surprised to find that instead of the 40GB drive that was supposed to be in there, it has an 80GB drive. That on top of the savings by getting a refurb. makes this Mini an even better deal.
AndyO - in reply to your post on my previous topic, the refurb price was $70 less than the new ones. I thought a $70 savings (15%) was a pretty good deal myself. And now finding out the the hard drive is twice what it was supposed to be makes it an even better deal.
    Eric S.

Eric, the reason I said the refurb minis were not what I would consider good value is that as much as they are certainly cheaper than the new models, they've been listed as having 256Mb RAM, in comparison to the 512Mb RAM now installed as the base config on new systems. Given that for serious work 512Mb RAM is highly desirable, and that it could cost more than the $70 savings to upgrade the RAM in the refurb system.... well, I'm sure you can see the reasoning - and that's without considering the refurb 1.42 units that don't have bluetooth and airport while the new models do.
However, if Apple are supplying the refurb minis with additional RAM (and for those who may be fortunate enough to get an 80Gb drive as you did) the price would certainly make a great deal of sense!
