Apple Certified Refurbished Mac Book Pro RAM

Hello,
is it possible to buy an Apple Certified Refurbished Mac Book Pro listed with 1GB Ram, with 2GB of RAM?
Thanks for help,
lg
Tina

Sounds like BTO. And ask Apple or look in the MBP forum.
Often times, and no guarantee, the Specials do come with more RAM and could have larger hard drive than what is listed.
Otherwise, might want to just place an order for new and configure yourself, or look at what Crucial, Ramjet etc offer in upgrades which may be easy DIY. There are manuals for all Macs from the "Manuals" link at the top.

is refurbished bad or does apple make sure they are good to go?

when apple sells refurbished macbooks - they test it and wipe it out and sell it back like it's brand new.
when someone buys a macbook  and returns them - apple doesn't sell them as new - they repack them after testing then sell them as refurbished macbooks.  it can also be a display model that they can only sell as refurbished.
it's safe to buy them - warranty is the same as buying a new one.

  • My Apple TV affecting Mac Book Pro?!

Recently, my wife and I were sitting on the couch.  I was working on my Mac Book Pro (2010) and she was fiddling around with the Apple TV (trying to get AirPlay to work with YouTube after that blasted "upgrade" to iOS 6).  Anyway, at some point, the on-screeen volume control popped up as if I had just lowered the volume using my keyboard!  Huh?  A few seconds later it happened again.  It turned out that my wife's press of the "down" arrow appeared to occasionally - but not always - invoke the volume control on my Mac!
Now, I searched a little on this forum and saw that one can pair the Apple TV remote with the Mac via IR.  But we hadn't done that!  Is this a known bug?

Yes, there is a difference between a design feature and a bug ( and/or design flaw).  I didn't say there wasn't.  Since leaving a device open for others to manipulate without the consent of the owner doesn't seem like something a responsible engineer would do intentionally, I believe it's a bug or design flaw rather than a "feature".  Unless you're friends with the Apple designers and know their intent, you have no way of knowing that leaving the IR open was by design (vs. bug).  I don't need to "redefine" any terms in order to make this perfectly logical argument.
You say that my boss and I have proven that it's not a problem.  Not at all!  My boss and I have proven that most people probably don't even know of the existence of IR on the Macs and wouldn't know how to react when they find their volume control "mysteriously" going up/down.
You say "You indicate you don't know System Preferences..."
Nowhere in my post did I say that I don't know "System Preferences".  I said that this particular system preference is difficult to find.  Since my Mac gives no visual indication that there is an IR port active (such as an LED) and there is no OBVIOUS system preference that points it out, the average user won't know about it nor turn it off.  Since the average user won't turn it off, it stays on.  Since it stays on, it's easy for someone to have some fun with Mac users.  It is not so hard to understand how this faulty arrangement may lead people who wouldn't appreciate being manipulated by someone's IR to, nonetheless, not do anything to protect themselves - because they don't know that there is a need to!

  • Can I load my current software on to a refurbished mac book pro

Can I load my current software on to a refurbished mac book pro

When you get the MBP, the first time you turn it on, the Setup Assistant will offer to migrate your data from an old computer to the new one. Take advantage of the offer, and elect to migrate your applications too. If your MS Office apps won't open after being moved over, it will likely be because Microsoft's registration and activation routines have locked the software to the first computer it was installed on. You'll need to consult Microsoft for advice on freeing it up for use on the new computer, which will probably entail deactivationg it on the old one first.

  • Refurbished Mac Book Pro from Apple.

    Hi All,
I am planning to buy refurbished macbook pro from Apple for my Friend. Its Quad core processor with 4 GB Ram, 15 inch. Any one has experience with refurbished stuff from Apple?
There are two options and I am really confused on that if you guys can suggest me:

    Not much difference in price.
There is another one which is used by someone and I am getting it really cheap
    13.3 inch 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
8 GB DDR3 MEM - (Upgraded from stock)*******
    120GB SOLID STATE DRIVE
    Please suggest best one.

These are all good computers. All 3 are actually quite different and the one for you would entirely depend on the uses.
I will first compare the 1st and 3rd models as they are both 13". Price aside, the first one is superior in every way apart from (possibly) the hard drive. I say possibly because maybe your friend would prefer more space over speed. If not, you can always upgrade the hard drive to a SSD yourself.
However, you mention that the 3rd model will be "really cheap". You will have to decide if the significantly faster processor of the first model is worth the extra money - this extra money being both the difference in price and the cost of ugrading the hard drive if you choose to do so. Bear in mind the processor is not upgradeable at a later date.
As for the 15" model, this is an entirely different computer. It has a dedicated graphics chip which your friend would most likely appreciate if they run graphic intensive tasks such as games. The larger screen size may also appeal to your friend, if they are happy carrying the extra weight. Finally the processor of this model is potentially much stronger than both of the other two, depending on the tasks your friend will use it for.
Unfortunately this computer only comes with the basic 4GB RAM and standard hard drive although, just like the other models, this is completely upgradeable by anyone.
I haven't given you an answer but perhaps this info will help you decide

  • Can you buy apple care on refurbished macs book pros?

Can I buy Apple Care on refurbished MacBook Pros? What's the warranty return policy on them? Will it be in Like New Condition when I get it? This is the one I'm interested in. http://bit.ly/1MND29o

    Good afternoon JesseAlexander –
MacBook Pros are such great, reliable products and purchasing it Geek Squad Certified just makes it a fantastic deal as well! In addition to other responsibilities, I spent a few years performing the Geek Squad Certification process on products returned to Best Buy and I know it very well.
To address your first question, AppleCare is sold directly through Apple. I have read through the program Terms and Conditions and I am not able to find a solid answer. I think your best bet would be to contact Apple directly by calling 1-800-275-2273 or visiting their Apple Support website.
We do offer a 15 day Return & Exchange Promise on our Geek Squad Certified products. In addition, we offer a One Year Limited Warranty on them as well. If you are interested in added protection against normal wear and tear or drops and spills, we also offer our own Geek Squad Protection Plan available on our refurbished products. Feel free to click on the links to learn more.
Our Geek Squad Certified products typically begin as returned merchandise that customers changed their mind about. If a problem is discovered during the return, it is automatically disqualified. The returned devices are then given the once-over by store staff and turned over to specially-trained Agents who put them through a standardized process to make sure they are ready to be sold. We thoroughly test and inspect each refurbished device to make sure it works and looks as it did when it first came from the factory.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions regarding our Geek Squad Certified products, MacBook Pros, Geek Squad, or Best Buy in general.
Thanks for reaching out to us,

  • Do apple provide mac book pro RAM upgrades?

It currently has 2gb of ram and I would like to give it 4gb or more. I got this mac in late 2008

Yes, Apple sells RAM upgrades -- for two to three times as much as anyone else does. Upgrading the RAM in your machine is a snap, and instructions are in your MBP user guide. Buy the RAM online and install it yourself. Here's one good place to buy, and a link to the right RAM for a late-2008 unibody MBP:

It also comes up with some and more of the info below, whatever it means?
    Panic CPU 0 <Panic>
Unable to find perform kext scan:
    Debugger called <Panic>
    Can’t perform kext scan:
SD process name corresponding to correct thread
    MAC OS Version:
    Not yet set.
What do I do, can anyone help me?
I also updated a Mac Mini and iMac with no problems.

    unfortunatly i had no Backups.
You should make sure to correct that as soon as possible.  All computers, regardless of make and model, are ticking time bombs.  Hard drives can die at any time, leaving you with an inert chunk of metal that may still contain your data, but in a form that is totally inaccessible without paying thousands to a company that will disassemble the drive in a clean room and read what data they can off the platters.
I wonder why should that happen. It was a simple update. Why should an update ruins all my works and my computer...
It is not the update itself, but the fact that you had corruption in your hard drive's data structures, and writing the thousands of files required by the updater worsened that corruption, damaging the system in the process.  These problems can be avoided by repairing your hard drive with Disk Utility prior to installing any system update.  Most likely, Disk Utility won't find anything to fix, but when it does, you'll be glad you did it before installing the update!

I'm not sure where on the internet or which store you mean -- but if you mean an Apple advertisement on the internet and an Apple Store, note that there was an ad for MacBooks that showed them with a variety of stickers but Apple does't sell the stickers and not all of the ones shown in the ad were commercially available.

  • I would like to know why I can not download apps for other apple products.  There is a very limited selection for Mac Book Pro.

I would like to know why I can not download apps for other apple products.  Mac Book Pro's selection is quite limited.

The games available for the iPad from the App Store will not be compatible with any computer other than an iDevice. To check for available games/Apps for the MacBook Pro you would need to check the Mac App Store, assuming of course that you are running at least OS 10.6.6.

  • Mac Book Pro 2013 Non Retina

I was looking at the Apple Stores newest Mac Book Pros (later 2013) and I noticed that all the newest Mac Book Pros have Retina. Is there an option to not get Retina with these newer ones? I want to save money on that and also I would liek to get less RAM and then upgraded it later, and from my understanding you cannot upgrade the RAM in a Retina Mac Book Pro. I was specifically looking at a 15" Mac Book Pro with the nVidia Card.

    Hi macjsus,
Unfortunately the newest Mac Book Pros are only retina display and the Apple trend is in that way. I bought my Mac Book Pro a few days ago and I upgraded it improving the RAM up to 16gb for US $250 approximately . If I had bought  a Mac Book Pro Retina Display I would need a lot of money for this improvement.
    Have a nice day!

  • My late 2007 Mac Book Pro has tiny vertical lines in the display intermittently.

Intermittent, tiny vertical lines in display of my refurbished Mac Book Pro late 2007 , A1226 model.
Have replaced the actual display screen.
Apple Genius Bar tested hardware and all OK, although the display was working by the time I got there.
It is fine right now, I am using it for this post, but is hard to read small letters and numbers when it acts up.
Even when the lines appear the display shows bright and crisp on any external monitor.
Does anyone have any insight to this problem?
    Thanks !

It could be the inverter cable or board is beginning to get frayed.
If attaching an external display shows the lines, you know the problem is direct to the videochip itself.
Some games are videochip specific in their requirements and may trigger the issue anyway, if the videochip is not on their supported list.

  • CAN I UPGRADE MY MAC BOOK PRO WITH LATEST MAC

I brought a mac book pro in augest 2010 from apple store. Is there any possibility to upgrade my mac book with latest configuration offered by apple? My mac book pro in is very good condition as it is when i brought it. Please let me know regrading this...
    Thanking you

Apple will not normally buy back old Macs. They do offer a recycling program with the store.  Inquire at your local store.  This is a user to user forum, so no one here can answer for Apple directly, except with what we have experienced as users.
