Apple cinema 22" connected to a 1st gen mini shuts on and off

I have a 22" apple cinema with a clear enclosure (older models) that is connected to a 1st generation mac mini through an Apple DVI to ADC Display Adapter. Everything has been working like a charm, despite the flickering problem which was solved, for a bout 2 years. But this summer, the display kept going off and on by utself on its own for a few hours and then comes back on. It really feels as if the power just went off. A week ago, the display went off for what its seems forever.
I'm not sure what should I check, the mini, the adapter or the screen! Any ideas?
Thanks a lot.

My 23 inch HD cinema display is doing the same thing. It is over 4 years old and it all started with problems with the USB connections in the back about a month ago. They work most of the time, but once in a while they will just stop working for my keyboard or mouse. Now, my display is just losing power randomly. It will turn off and then back on, then again and again for a minute or two, then it will come back on without any more problems. Fortunately, the display itself is still phenomenal; colors are good, brightness is good. It seems to be just the USB's and the turning off and on randomly. Does anyone here know what it takes to correct this problem.

    Hi jaredfox06,
If I understand the issue correctly, you have recently purchased a used iPhone and you do not see your Apple TV in the control center in order to AirPlay.  To troubleshoot this issue please follow the steps outlined below.
    Try these steps first
Make sure that you have the latest software on your iOS device and Apple TV.
Make sure that both devices have Wi-Fi turned on.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Network.
If you're trying to use peer-to-peer AirPlay, make sure that both devices have Bluetooth turned on.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Bluetooth.
If you don't see AirPlay in Control Center
When an AirPlay-enabled device is available, you'll see AirPlay in Control Center on your iOS device.
If you don't, try these steps:
Restart your iOS device and Apple TV.
Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Network. If your Apple TV is connected using Ethernet, make sure that it’s plugged in to the router you're using for Wi-Fi.
On your Apple TV, make sure that AirPlay is turned on. Go to Settings > AirPlay.

    Have a good one,

This is how it's displayed: http://i50.tinypic.com/nd7vk7.jpg
And this is what happens when I click properties and 'search for solutions': http://i47.tinypic.com/2iu3vrc.jpg (the box disappears after that, apparently having done nothing, when I search online for software it informs me my computer already has the best/latest installed)

  • Why does my 1st gen iPad always turns itself off and goes back to the screen. Whether I'm reading news, iBooks, etc, suddenly it goes off.

Why does my 1st gen iPad always turns itself off and goes back to the screen. Whether I'm reading news, iBooks, etc, suddenly it goes off.

If that doesn't help, the battery may be dying and need replacement. See here (tap on Battery Replacement): http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad
Alternately, might consider start saving for a new iPad. The newest iPad 6 should come out in the next few months. When it does, sellers will want to get rid of old inventory with good deals.

  • Would 1st gen mini screen work with 2nd gen mini with retina?

I just bought an ipad mini with retina display.  I dropped it and cracked the screen up just a few days after buying it.  I did not get the protection plan.  Could I buy a replacement screen for the 1st gen mini and it work?  I can't seem to find replacement screens labeled for retina display and I don't wanna pay apple $220 to fix it

I don't believe it will work, but I can't say for certain. You're on your own on this problem, though perhaps you can get assistance on http://www.ifixit.com.

My apple TV is connected to a DTV with an HDMI cable and to my Yamaha receiver via optic cable. We rented a movie on Apple TV and.found that the movie played, but we only got audio for music tracks. Voice tracks were silent using both TV and receiver.  This only occurred on the rented video and on recorded shows on my cable DVR. previews and other content on Apple TV are fine. Any ideas??

Previews and trailers do not contain 5.1 audio.
If you have recently moved your setup, you may have inadvertently changed some of the settings on your receiver. It certainly sounds as though it is unable to play the 5.1 audio from the Apple TV.

  • 1st gen mini firewire charger on 3nd gen nano

    Hi,

Yeah it will charge but you cant use it to transfer data.

  • How do I get a movie purchased on my 3rd gen Apple TV to play on my 1st gen Apple TV?

I purchased and watched a move on my 3rd gen Apple TV a few weeks ago.  Now I want to watch it in another room where I have an older HD based Apple TV (1st gen I think).  When I look in iTunes on my computer, I can see that it's listed as being available in my account in the cloud.  I can't see it from my older Apple TV.  I don't want to have to keep this on my computer given it's size (5GB), so the solution of downloading to my PC and syncing isn't too attractive.

AppleTV 1 is not aware of movies in the cloud so your only option to get the movie onto there is to download the HD version to iTunes and sync or buy it again direct on AppleTV.
You may be able to do a manual sync, then delete from iTunes but next time you sync if the item is not in itunes it will likely go from ATV1.
Remember ATV1 will not play the 1080p HD version as it maxes out for video decoding with teh 720p ones even thouigh it can be set up for 1080p upscaled output.
Have you considered keeping larger items on an external drive ?  You can mix and match locations for media in various ways eg with smaller music files on the main hard drive (eg laptop) and larger video files on an external only available for playback or syncing when plugged in.

  • Connecting my iPod 1st Gen to my 2011 Ford Explorer

I have an iPod adapter that came with a more recent iPod Nano I purchased (late 2009) and tried hooking the 1st gen iPod Nano up to my new Ford last night. The car does not recognize my 1st gen iPod Nano, but does recognize the newer iPod Nano. Do I need a different adapter? Or is my 1st gen iPod Nano just not compatible with my new car?

Okay - that's what we thought. If we go to Apple and get a new Nano can they transfer all the songs on my old Nano to our new one?
I'm not 100% sure, but more than likely they should be able to. If not, come back here and we'll try to help with that.
separate question - we also need to update our Mac notebook (now 4 years old). Can the employees at Apple save all pictures to a USB drive and then transfer all our itunes to the new computer?
    Yes.

  • Using only an Apple Cinema Display connected to MBP (w/ the lid closed)

    Hi,
Could someone please help me on a small but rather annoying problem?
I have a Mac Book Pro 17" connected to an Apple Cinema Display 24". All I would like to do is to just use the Cinema Display, close the laptop lid, and for the MBP not to go into sleep mode (taking the Apple Display away with it).
I've looked in the Display and Energy Saver settings and have trawled through the online forums but as yet have not had any luck.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Many thanks, M>/.

Apple supports using an external keyboard/mouse to wake the MBP in clamshell mode.

The other option is 3rd party software to disable lid-closed sleep:

  • 1st gen iMac G5 Crashes and Won't Boot Up

To whom it may concern :
I've been having problems with my 20" iMac G5.
It frequently freezes and a message that says I have to restart my computer by pressing the power button for a few seconds appears.
At first, after I've done as the message said, my computer booted up successfully and after startup a message that says "Mac OS X quit unexpectedly" appeared, although when I pressed Report it did nothing.
For the past few days, the same as above occurs except when I try to boot up my system it starts booting up and freezes on a black screen while the computer backlight is on.
If I'll leave it on in this state for a minute or two, the fans will begin spinning at maximum speed (I believe so due to the great noise and mild dust they will produce when doing this).
I should state that it freezes randomly and not after a specific action: when I multi task, when I return to the computer after being idle (screen saver or the monitor was off) or even when no programs are running.
Does anyone know what's wrong with my Mac ?
    Please Help !!

Except for your keyboard & mouse, disconnect all devices from your computer & repair disk & permissions from your Tiger DVD.
Repairing permissions from the Tiger DVD
Boot up from your Tiger Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
If Disk First aid is able to complete the repair now click on the "Repair permissions" button.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer.

  • How do I keep the music from my old 1st gen mini and put it on my new ipod touch without loosing it. the computer I used to load the mini was stolen quite some time ago????

How do I keep my music from my old 1st gen ipod mini when the computer that I originally loaded it with was stolen more than 5 years ago and transfer all the music onto my new ipod touch? My fear has always been that plugging my mini into another computer and attempting to download more music onto it or take what's on there off will end up erasing all of it because of file sharing regs. I would really prefer not to have to repurchase several hundred dollars of music as many of the original cd's that I used to download have been either lost or damaged over the years. Is there anything I can do????

  • Is an Apple Cinema Display (ca 2005) Compatible with Mac Mini?

I have a 2005 Power Mac Dual G5/2.3 I took off-line last year. It used an Apple Cinema Display 20" that has it's own power supply "brick" and a cord with the monitor connection, a USB connection, and a FireWire connection. Is this display compatible with the latest Mac Mini? Thank you for any advice you may have.

That's correct, the link perfectly describes the Apple 20" Cinema Display I have. With the new Mac Minis requiring an HDMI cable to link to a display, the HDMI to DVI (female) adapter looks like the one I need. I found this on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Gino-Black-Female-Converter-Adapter/dp/B006Z8N60C/ref=sr_1 _18?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1371158207&sr=1-18&keywords=hdmi+to+dvi+adapter+ca ble
This adapter is an all-in-one plug with no cable linking the HDMI to the DVI ends. It looks like it might be too wide to plug in anything immediately adjacent to the HDMI socket on the Mac Mini due to the width of the adapter when the adapter is plugged in. However, I could get around this by purchasing an extension cable with HDMI male on one end and the HDMI female on the other if I had to.
However, one of the comments said that the DVI is video-only and that another cable is required for audio. Can I assume that plugging in either or both of the other connections (a USB and a FireWire) coming out of the 20" display will take care of audio?
That leads to another answer, but I'm confident that I'm almost there thanks to your help. Close enough to mark this as "solved". Thank you! Let me know if you have any further thoughts with regard to the audio though.

  • Dropped my ipod touch 1st gen on the floor and now it completely doesn't work. Since the first generation is discontinued, could I exchange it for a newer version?

My iPod Touch 1st Generation fell off the bed and now does not work. The screen didn't crack or anything but it won't turn on or do anything. I tried resetting it but that did not help at all. The computer recognizes when the iPod is plugged in but the iPod does nothing. I was wondering if I could exchange it, but since the 1st gen iPod is discontinued, could I exchange it for the newer version? Or even just return it?

You can only turn it into your local Apple store to be recycled for a 10% discount towards the purchase of a new one.  That's it though.
