Apple Cinema 30" only displaying 1440 x 900

I am using a minidisplayport to dual-link dvi adaptor and I have a macbook pro 15 with a video card that should push more. How can i fix this?

Turn off Mirroring in the "Arrangement" tab of "Display" system preference.

Using Azul media player app on my ipad  Apple tv will only display sound but not video from movies.  Any ideas on a fix.  I set mirroring to on but it still does not display video.  It will display photos and video recorded from my iphone.

Here are the steps for AirPlay:
Before starting Azul from your (running iOS 5.x/6.x) home screen where have have all your apps we need to turn on mirroring
On your iPhone 4S/5 or iPad 2 or 3, double-click the Home  Button to view your recently-used apps.
Swipe all the way to the right to until you see the  icon.
Note: If the icon does not appear, go to the "If AirPlay Mirroring is not visible or available on your mobile iOS device" section.
Tap the  icon to see the list of available AirPlay devices.
Enable AirPlay Mirroring in this menu by tapping on an available Apple TV, then sliding the Mirroring slider to ON.
Now you should be seeing your iPad/iPhone on your TV.
Start up Azul now and using the settings icon on the top right corner go to the option that say "TV out" ON.
When you do that you will see an Orange screen
Now click "Done" and play the video you want to watch and it will AirPlay

    Is $1019 a good price?

Can you tell me why you don't think its a good buy? Someone bought it that must have thought it was a good buy? You?!!!
I had a macbook pro, spilled an entire latte on it. Cannot afford to drop another 1500 on a new one. I understand the air is a great machine. And for someone that is hard on equipment (aside from liquid!) with no moving parts its a better option. This one is priced at $929 - good?

  • My Apple TV is only displaying on a quarter of the screen.

When I turned on my Apple TV today, only a quarter of the screen was displayed.  The Apple TV is up to date.  I tried restarting it, as well as the internet connection.  When booting up, it uses the entire screen, but only a quarter of the home screen / video / screen saver is seen.
It is not a problem with the TV, as all other inputs work, and I tried playing something else through the input channel usually reserved for the Apple TV without any problem.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks.

What TV (brand and model #)?
Have you the Apple TV on another port? Used a different HDMI cable?
Are you able to cycle through the resolutions via Apple TV settings?

  • Display 1440 x 900

My display is set at 1440 x 90. Why is it when I plug in my dvi cable that goes to my tv that the display is all stretched out on my desktop? Things are viewed on the tv ok, but my desktop display changes for some reason. Does it have to be like this or is there a way to keep it at 1440 x 900? Any help appreciated!
    Thanks

    Hi,
While the TV is connected, go to the player preferences and look if there is any option to choose the display for full screen viewing. For quicktime and dvd player, the preference does have such option and its very easy to find.
For the Front Row to play on the TV, you have to choose the TV as your desktop. To do that, connect the TV and go to Display Preferences where it shows your Desktop and the external monitor (TV in your case) side by side (two white rectangles under 'Arrangement'). Now you will see a white menu bar on top of one of the rectangles (the left one), thats your desktop, click on that white menu bar and drag it onto your second display (the right rectangles) and then release the mouse. Now, you will see that your dock and menu bar has switched to the TV. Launch Front Row, if it still plays on your computer, log out and log back in (if necessary restart the computer with the TV connected).
Before changing the desktop, drag any of your working window to the TV, you will see that now you have more space to work on.

  • Apple TV 2 only displaying SD version on some of my HD Movies. My Apple TV 3 shows HD on all

I have iron man 2, Captain america, Star Trek, and Tangled downloaded on my computer in 1080P format. They all have an SD version except for Tangled. Iron Man 2 and Captain american do NOT have the little HD symbol on my Apple Tv 2 but Star Trek and Tangled do... What gives? Tangled is an exact 1920x1080 so I know the apple TV 2 can downscale. My apple tv 3 shows the HD on all. PLEASE HELP!!!! very frustrated

I've got to be honest here, both of the proposed solutions bug me. I don't feel like I should have to (or want to) nuke the SD version and I really don't want to go through and retag all of my HD files incorrectly to 720p. What bugs me even more is that up until I updated my ATV 2 to 5.0.2, the HD versions were there and available... Now, like a **** in the wind, they're gone (but of course all are available on my ATV 3 in another room). I've tried every conceivable reset short of wiping the ATV 2 and starting over, but I mean this is just a bit ridiculous. If I remember correctly the downscaling actually happens on the machine (via iTunes) itself, not on the ATV 2. There's no reason that HD content shouldn't show up as such via Home Sharing - something sketch is going on. I'm finding hardly anything on this problem anywhere, but I'm hoping that someone has ran into it and has another possible solution that lets things work as they are and should.

  • 23" Apple Cinema Display & 15" MacBook Pro?

    1) Any ideas on how to crank up the res on a MacBook Pro for external mirroring?
A manager at my company ordered a 15" MacBook Pro & a 23" Apple Cinema Display for the purpose of Mirroring.
When spanning, the laptop and the display look great (and both run in their native modes of 1920 x 1200 and 1440 by 900, respectively), but when mirroring is enabled, the MacBook video card acts like it can't power the 23" LCD properly. It wants to default both the 15" built-in display and the Cinema display at 1440 by 900 - which is unacceptable.
    2) Is it possible to close a MacBook Pro's lid and continue to power the external monitor without the MacBook sleeping?
    3) Is it possible to toggle the MacBook Pro's video signal to turn OFF the built-in laptop display and ONLY run on the external display? I remember older PowerBooks being able to do this. Many PC laptops will allow you to disable the local video and only send a signal to the external display (for presentations etc).

    1) Any ideas on how to crank up the res on a MacBook Pro for external mirroring?
Mirroring is pixel to pixel. The MacBook only has 1440 by 900, so that's all it can show on the external display when mirroring.
    2) Is it possible to close a MacBook Pro's lid and continue to power the external monitor without the MacBook sleeping?
Attach the power adapter and an external keyboard and mouse (bluetooth is OK if it's set to wake the computer). When you close the lid, the computer will sleep, but will wake (and continue to run with the lid closed) when you use the external mouse or keyboard.
    3) Is it possible to toggle the MacBook Pro's video signal to turn OFF the built-in laptop display and ONLY run on the external display?
Not with the lid open, but if not mirrored, you can move the menu bar to the external display by following the instructions in the "Arrangement" tab of "Displays" system preference.

  • Apple Cinema Display 23" - Blank Screen, "short-long-short" LED code

    Hello everyone.
This sounds like something of an epidemic... My Apple Cinema 23" HD Display (bought Dec. 2007) hasn't been turning on after a power outage hit our area last week.
The Computer and Display were OFF when the outage occurred. Everything was plugged into a surge suppressor. Everything ELSE plugged in to the suppressor is fine (including my Mac CPU)... but not the monitor.
It’s not dead-dead…. It’s a blank screen but there IS a morse-code flash on the LED (short-long-short). According to Apple Support’s LED Translation, it SHOULD be something to do with the power adaptor. The adaptor IS correct… a 90 watt… but just in case I bought ANOTHER 90w adaptor brick. I plugged the monitor to the new brick. THE RESULT WAS THE SAME.
I’ve tried power cycling, I’ve tried plugging it into different outlets, I’ve tried connecting to other computers. The same LED result remains.
And, yes, of course, I’ve got no Apple Support, and from what I read in similar posts, outside-the-warranty repairs could hit around $400. I REFUSE!
For now I have a Samsung monitor from Costco. It’s not bad, but it’s not the Apple monitor with its awesome color-fidelity.
I've read some other posts with the same problem (LED blink code and all) elsewhere but haven't got a solid answer.
I wonder… has anyone else incurring this same problem (with the same LED flashing deal) tried to use a 150-WATT adaptor brick? I would try this myself, but I’m currently financially unable (and personally unwilling) to throw more cash at this problem unless I know it’ll fix it.

    Hi all!
As mentioned on the title of this topic *I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM* with my 23" Cinema Display...
Before the failure, the monitor *WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION* (trust me when I comment this, my whole life is in front of a monitor)
*THE PROBLEM SHOWED UP THE DAY I MOVED THE MONITOR TO AN OTHER OFFICE* (???). Please note that *I TOOK EXTRA CARE WHEN I MOVED THE MONITOR*, besides, when something costs around 1K you owe to.
*I TRIED AN 150W ADAPTER ON IT AND WORKED FINE!!!* Just like before.
But since *IT WAS UNDER GUARANTY* I sent it to the local distributor who eventually *REPLACED IT WITH A "NEW" ONE*, which after remarks from my side it turned out it wasn't "new" but re-manufactured by Apple (off course, he guarantied me the parts in it, where brand new and had 0 hours of usage).
In my question to the technical representative of Apple *"WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY MONITOR"*, he answered me that *THE INVERTER WAS FAULT*.
After that I questioned him *"WHY MY MONITOR MANAGED TO WORK WITH THE 150W ADAPTER?"*, he answered me that *THE EXTRA CHARGE OF THE 150W ADAPTER WAS ABLE TO "EXCITE" SUCCESSFULLY THE FAULTY INVERTER IN ORDER TO WORK* and that *IT WAS A MATTER OF MONTHS FOR THE MONITOR TO FAIL AGAIN*.
That's my story... I hope it may help some of you... Personally I can't have an opinion on the matter, since I'm not a technician. The only thing on which I can comment is that *A 1K MONITOR SHOULD BE WAY MORE DURABLE AND TOLERANT WHEN YOU TRANSFER IT AROUND (if that cause the problem of course)*

  • Wrong Screenresolution on Apple 15" analog Studio Display under 10.5

    Hi everybody,
I'm still using one of the good old blue TFT 15" Studio Displays with VGA and ADB connectors as my secondary display. The correct resolution should be 1024x768px at either 60hz or 75hz.
When the display is connected and I start the machine, the display shows a scaled narrow image and display settings show me that the screen is running at 1280x768px (funny .
When disconnected at start time and connected later on, the display runs fine.
I tried the usual stuff like resetting the pram and so on.
Before updating to 10.5 everything was fine. Any ideas what might be wrong ?
    Best regards,
    Matt

  • Increasing screen resolution beyond 1440 x 900

Hello, is there a way to increase the screen resolution beyond 1440 x 900? The result I'm hoping for is one I can accomplish in Windows in that it creates a sort of virtual screen that becomes viewable when one moves the mouse pointer to that which is off-screen, thus bringing it on screen.
The entire desktop would shift to display only that 1440 x 900 of the, say, 1920 x 1200. I don't know what this is technically termed and I hope I've explained it well enough. Thanks!

Check out VirtueDesktops - OSX 10.5 Leopard has 'Spaces' built-in which is very similar

  • Blank screen on Apple Cinema HD 30"

Am trying to install SL on latest model of Mac mini running an Apple Cinema HD 30" display. At start of install SL indicated 45 min. install, soon after the horizontal install bar indicated 1 hr 6 min install time. After returning to Mac mini after 45 minutes Cinema display is black and pressing on space bar or mouse does not wake the display. Without any display information I am completely clueless as to whether SL install is in progress completed or ???? Started from Mac OS X 10.5.8. Any suggestions appreciated

In continuing my research on this topic, I found this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5198
Short version, the 23" Cinema HD is among one of several older "vintage" Apple displays that are no longer supported under Mavericks. No brightness control, and it's likely to not work reliably at all. I can't say why I was able to use it for as long as I did with no problems. I take all this to mean that the display itself works fine, but not with my new MBP Retina.
Though a tempting excuse to spend another grand on a 27" Apple Thunderbolt display, I opted for a $250 HDMI monitor from Fry's instead.

  • Using only an Apple Cinema Display connected to MBP (w/ the lid closed)

    Hi,
Could someone please help me on a small but rather annoying problem?
I have a Mac Book Pro 17" connected to an Apple Cinema Display 24". All I would like to do is to just use the Cinema Display, close the laptop lid, and for the MBP not to go into sleep mode (taking the Apple Display away with it).
I've looked in the Display and Energy Saver settings and have trawled through the online forums but as yet have not had any luck.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Many thanks, M>/.

Apple supports using an external keyboard/mouse to wake the MBP in clamshell mode.

The other option is 3rd party software to disable lid-closed sleep:

  • Mini VGA to VGA to Apple Cinema Display

i just acquired an old imac g4/800. it has the mini vga port. i've seen the adapter to go from mini vga to vga but i'd like to purchase a 23" apple cinema display. do i need another adapter linked to the mini vga adapter that would connect a cinema display to the imac g4? i'm not worried about adding extra desktop space, only using the new display with the current setup. please advise

Apple's current 23" Cinema HD Display uses the DVI connection rather the ADC connection. The original 23" Cinema Display has an ADC but was discontinued in 2004. But then a VGA to DVI convertor is about the same cost as a VGA to ADC convertor. So I certainly agree with just buying a new display.
Remember the iMac G4 can only mirror the internal display on to the external if you have a 15" iMac G4 then that means you'll be outputting a 4:3 ratio XGA (1024x768) screen on to this nice large display which isn't going to look great. If you have a 17" iMac G4 then it's worth ensuring that the 23" display you do get is capable of the 1440 x 900 resolution. Personally I'd give serious consideration to the iMac 24" if you need the larger display as 23" display is 50% of the cost of the iMac.

  • Does Photoshop CS4 support ATY RadeonX1600 plus Apple Cinema 32" display (18 pin connector)

SEE SCREEN SHOT OF ALL THREE RENDERINGS IN ORDER:  PHOTOSHOP CS4, LIGHTROOM2, BRIDGE.
Have been getting very harsh/hot renderings of images in PS CS4.  Bridge, Lightroom 2 and even Nikon's Capture NX2 are all quite similar in rendering image.  Have used DNG created from Raw Nikon NEF.  Rendering in PS CS4 significantly different on Cinema display, even though the RGB levels read the same in Brdige and Photoshop.  The Cinema display is the older 32" that has the larger DVI link and is a matte screen as opposed to the new one released by Apple that has the mini-dvi link and is a glossy screen.  The rendering in ACR 5.5 that is brought up by Bridge looks fine, then when opening it in Photoshop it becomes very yellow/red and blows up the highlights - approximately like adding +50 to vibrance.

I am adding this:  when looking at the screen shot on my Cinema Display, the Photoshop rendering does not show the harsh yellows/reds that I see when looking directly at the image, Prophoto RGB 16bpc.  The screen shot of the three renderings of the same image look far more similar than in real life here.  I see the screen shot is only 8 bpc, and have opened it with its own color profile (PNG) and also converting it to the working profile of Prophoto RGB.
