Apple Cinema Display & Power Adapter

I just picked up a new 23" ACD, got it hooked up to my MBP. I had the power adapter box standing vertically on my desk. Anyways, While I was working on organizing the cables, SLAM!, the power adaper box tipped over onto the desk. now sitting horizontally from the 90 degree tip. Do I have anything to worry about such as internal damage to the power adapter?
Also, how come the manual said not to carry the display by the stand? But it just make more sense carrying the display by the stand, this way not having the screen itself lift that heavy-weight stand.
MacBook Pro - 15.4" Glossy , Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz, 2GB RAM, 120GB HD   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

My desk top is made of wood board, so it can echoes major sound from just small impact. The power adapter was standing vertically, then tips and lays flat horizontally. Sort of like a iPod tips over when it's not correctly connected into the dock.
I just shook power adapter to hear for any sound of any internal components broken off. Turned out no sound but a tiny bit of stiff rattling. Though it's still function, I'm still paranoid and worried.
As for carrying the ACD, Dave you made a good point, I dont really think it'll hurt if holding it by the stand upright position, which I did. The manual probably meant not to hold it by the stand upside down or in a 90 degress position, which increases the chance of the screen knock into something. The stand secures the screen and it's designed to hold the weight of the screen, I don't see why carrying this display by the stand in a upright position will be a issue.

  • Self repair apple cinema display 65W power adaptor?

After a power outage, I have discovered that the 65W power adaptor (A1096 661-3760) driving a 20" apple cinema display is no longer working.  A different brick from another display works fine.  I was wondering whether I might be able to service this power adaptor myself?  Are there online guides for dissembling the adaptor and checking if maybe a fuse has blown?
    Thanks for any advice...
    Paul

My guess is not even apple bothers to repair something like a power adapter.  A google search shows it can be replaced (albeit not cheaply).  It's probably dangerous to fiddle with too since you have line voltages to deal with.
You could call a place like Mac-Pro to see what their opinion of repairing it is.  They sell that adapter but also repair mac stuff.

  • I need a power adaptor for my 1st gen Apple Cinema Display

I just moved, and I lost the power cable to my first generation Apple Cinema Display (20" I think). It looked like the old powerbook cable, kind of a blue wheel thing-a-ma-bob. Any ideas? It seems as if Apple only sells the accessories for products they are now selling this week.

This is the usual solution for an ADC display that does not have an AC power cord to be used with a Mac that has only a DVI output. This device adds up to 4 Amps of power at about 25 Volts to power the display:

There are also some cruder versions that use the external Power supply brick "borrowed" from a G4 Cube.

    im running OSX 10.7.4

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Apple Cinema Display with DVI to VGA graphic adapter... HELP

A friend of mine has a PC (Windows XP based) and is using the Apple Cinema Display. Since his graphic card has both vga and dvi slot, he can plug the monitor to DVI and got it working, but when he tried to plug it into the VGA slot using DVI to VGA converter, it did not work. Is there a need of special converter or adapter?

    Hi royz86,
To run a DVI display off a VGA output, you need a rather expensive converter box. These converters vary in performance, reliablility and application possibilities and certainly don't compare with using a native DVI output.
Your friend was probably trying to use a DVI to VGA adaptor (which won't work "the other way around"). It works by grabbing the analogue signal that is included in a DVI-I output and setting up a VGA output that way. These don't work with DVI-D outputs, by the way.
    Cheers!

  • Apple Cinema Display 22" doesn't power on

All - I have an old 22" Apple Cinema Display, model# M8149 that won't power on at all - no picture, no blinky lights on the front, just totally dead. I've tried it with a known function ADC capable video card as well as a known working DVIator external power supply - notta.
Does anyone have any idea which part may be defective? I see lots of posts about replacing the inverter board, but in all cases, the posts indicate the monitor powers on, just no or blank picture. Mine doesn't show any signs of life whatsoever.
    any help is appreciated.
    thx,

Are you sure that the connector on your laptop is a "AVG" ? Never heard of that one before. Perhaps it is a VGA???? If it is a VGA and your laptop graphics card is 16 MB video or less, it probably will not support the resolution of the 23 inch. As I can recall, it needs minimum of 32MB video ram to run it. Most older laptops will max out at resolutions of 1200X800. Find out what specs are on the card.

  • What adapter and or software do I need to allow my lenovo laptop to be able to use my 20"apple cinema display

what adapter and or software do I need to allow my lenovo laptop to be able to use my 20"apple cinema display?

To start off with, you will need to download iTunes. Make sure that you download the correct version, Windows, and if you have 32-bit or 64-bit. Pictures taken with the iPhone are imported to the computer via Scanner and Camera Wizard in Windows, or can also be copied via Windows Explorer in Computer. Photos are then synced to the computer via iTunes by selecting a folder on the computer that contains photos and they are copied to the computer.
Calendar has to be handled by a supported application. That can be Outlook 2003 or 2007. Other choices include using Google calendar, MobileMe,etc. The latter allow for OTA syncing of calendar. Contacts require a supported application as well, those include Outlook 2003 or 2007, or Windows Address book in Vista, or Windows Mail in Windows 7. You also have the option as above for Google or MobileMe.
Information about what you might want to use is found on the Apple website and descibes the supported applications.

  • No video on Mac Pro 266 + 20" Apple Cinema Display + ADC to DVI Adapter

When I boot my Mac Pro, I don't get a video signal. I currently have a 20" Apple Cinema Display (clear case) connected via an ADC to DVI adapter. I have connected the monitor/adapter on a Powerbook G4 wihout any issues, which rules out the monitor. I've tried everything: resetting PRAM/NVRAM, motherboard reset button, unplugging everything...nothing works.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you guys using the ADC to DVI adapter or the DVI to ADC adapter?
I have a clear 23" cinema display and I was thinking of getting a new Mac Pro... From what I can tell, you need the DVI to ADC adapter that sells for $100+. Is that correct?

  • Disable power and brightness buttons on Apple Cinema Displays in a lab?

We have a combination of new-model (DVI/silver) 20" Apple Cinema Displays as well as old-model (ADC/plastic) 20" Apple Cinema Displays in our computer labs. All of our computers are running Mac OS X 10.4.10.
I would like to disable the power and brightness buttons on these displays. I know I can do this manually by logging into each computer as an administrator, selecting System Preferences > Displays > Options, and checking the appropriate boxes, but obviously I'd like a leaner, meaner solution.
By the way, the option did not propogate via imaging, so it makes me think this is not a preference that's written to a .plist file somewhere. (I looked and looked and couldn't find a key in any preference file where these settings are stored...)
Does anyone know of a Unix terminal command or an Applescript command that I could send to all of my lab computers via Apple Remote Desktop to accomplish this?

We don't own these displays anymore. I ended up setting each workstation individually.

  • Power button on Apple Cinema Display 23"

I just got myself a used Apple Cinema Display and I have a quick question regarding the behavior of the power button. In the display options I selected "display power button : puts the computer to sleep or wakes it" but when I press the power button I get a popup saying "are you sure you want to shut down your computer".
The display is connected to a MacBook, running Snow Leopard. Is this a known issue I'm missing a setting somewhere?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Don't worry, it's normal. Since Panther, It give you more choice. Personally, I prefer that.

  • Apple Cinema Display Shuts Down under MBP Battery Power

Just had the logic board replaced on my early-2008 MBP. Got home, connected to my Apple Cinema display, everything's fine. However, when I disconnect the laptop power source, the cinema display goes dark. I can click the mouse, my password prompt comes up, I enter the password and the display comes back for a few seconds, then goes dark again. If I wait more than a few seconds the laptop goes into sleep mode. Only when I reconnect the power does it come back to life. Not sure what the issue is, I checked all the battery and power settings, I don't have anything set to automatically go into sleep mode. Also went to the display panel, clicked "Detect". Still having the problem. Someone once before suggested checking the option to "Mirror" the displays, but I don't even see that option in the display panel any longer.
    Any suggestions?

FWIW this has never worked with an external display while on battery power alone either in Clamshell mode or Mirroring/Extended Desktop - I thought the MagSafe was a requirement did it works without it before the replacement ??

  • Macbook Air + 30" Apple Cinema Display + Powered USB hub

I just received my dual link DVI to mini display port adapter in the mail today, and so far it's working just fine connecting my newer generation Macbook Air to the older 30" Apple Cinema display (the Air is closed, with an Apple wireless mouse/keyboard connected via Bluetooth).
I'm wondering if anyone has any success connecting a powered USB hub to either the adapter itself or the 30" display in order to gain some USB functionality out of the Air? I have a powered 4 port D-Link hub which worked fine directly into the Air, but I can't seem to power any devices when it's hooked up to the 30" display or directly into the adapter. I can't even get devices (external powered hard drives, Mbox) to work when plugged into the screen directly (no hub).
I called AppleCare about the problem and they said they don't support USB hubs via the 30" Apple Cinema Display when connected to the Macbook Air, but if anyone has any experience with this situation or if someone could offer me advice to get USB functionality out of my MBA + 30" ACD, it would be greatly appreciated!
