  • Where does Apple collect their Date & Time Information?

I'm trying to isolate a problem for why the date and time for Unalaska and Dutch Harbor, AK when set automatically is on Hawaii Time when it should be on Alaska Time.  The islands further west on the Aleutian Island Chain are on Hawaii Time, but not Unalaska Island.  While in Unalaska, I have to set date & time on all my Mac devices to manual, and switch it back to automatic whenever I leave.  As much as I travel, it is a nuisance having to switch back an forth between automatic and manual. This has been an ongoing problem for the past 2 or 3 years, and previously, it worked correctly.
I've noticed that some date/time websites have it wrong, but some have it correct.  So, if I can find out where Apple collects their Date & Time information, I should be able to figure out whether it's an "Apple" problem or an "ISP" problem.

Wonder why Ford, General Motors and all those car manufacturers don't do this? Hmmm?
I thought that they put out recalls for stolen cars.  Am I wrong on that?
    Yes.
A vehicle recall is to fix issues that the manufacturer feels they need to do something about such as bad parts.
Or the Government felt they needed to do something about.

  • Have tried the date time it's good not sure what else to look at and apple care is useless

keep getting error 1202 tried the date time thing they are fine, apple is of no help. I cant purchase song, can't look at wish list or account information and not sure what eles.  any ideas about where I need to look at. I don't have the speedbit vidoe so that aint' it.

I cannot see the damage. But the screening centre has pics showing it is damaged. Apple refuses to cover a physical damage. But the reason the device is damaged could only be coz it had a poor battery life from start. The iPhone 5 is infamous for the same. We all know it. Apple conveniently denies responsibility.
And the Insurance company says it covers only accidental damage. Now how am I to prove an 'accidental' damage ? Unless I lie to them....

    Hi, Katie.
I had this same issue and what worked for me was power cycling my wireless network and the Apple TV.  However, if the issue persists, here are a couple articles that will walk you through troubleshooting this issue.

    Apple TV: Troubleshooting wireless connections

If the steps in the article above do not resolve the issue, then a restore may be needed.

  • Clock looses time and date, Clock looses time and date

Clock losses time & date when battery dies whats my problem?

Well, probably the reason that would happen is that when the iPod is asleep, a tiny bit of the battery keeps the clock alive. If it is completely deprived of all power, that it wouldn't be able to keep that small process going. Just make sure to not let the battery die entirely, and it should be fine. I usually keep my iPod plugged in, but if I can't, I stop using it when I get the 20% battery warning. If you put it to sleep when you get this alert, there is plenty of juice to keep the clock alive in the background for quite a while.

  • Clock, date and time acting up

When i booted up this morning i got a message that said
your computers clock is set to a date before march 24th 2001. This may cause some applications to behave erratically.
please use the date and time prefrences panel to set the clock manually.
the clock is set to the correct time. Some apps are freezeing.
    what do i do.

Mention "clock reset to wrong year" to a room of Mac users, and you'll get a room of people telling you to replace the PRAM battery. Do you have your Mac set to auto-sync with a time server in System Preferences> Date&Time? That could mask a failing PRAM battery once startup is complete. The G4 mirrored drive door models take a 3.6v 1/2AA lithium PRAM battery (see Macintosh Family: Batteries and Part Numbers, Part 2); that battery is commonly a stock item at places like RadioShack for around US$11 retail. You can find it cheaper online (e.g., here), although after adding s/h you'll likely be close to the retail price again. The owners manual for your Mac will show how to replace the PRAM battery.

  • Lock screen and world clock show 24hr time, with date & time set to 12hr..

I gave my old iPhone 3GS to my wife after turning the 24hr time to off in in date & time settings but the lock screen and the world clock still display the 24hr time format (everything else is 12hr). I've tried rebooting, rebooting and leaving off for an extended time, switching 12/24 toggle back and forth in date & time settings, and deleting all locations in the world clock but the 24hr format stubbornly remains. The 24hr time confuses my wife so want times to display in the 12hr format.

I am having a similar problem with my iphone. i am in New Zeland, i have the date and time set correctly but in the world clock it is about 18 hours out. the wolrd clock for San Franciso agrees to my local time. i have tried different time zones and having the the automatic time setting on and off. i have also rebooted the iphone. any suggestions?

  • No needles of clock in iGoogle 'Date & Time'

On my incredible if I select ''Date & Time' on iGoogle, I see 1 to 12 numbers as dial. But I do not see both needles for hour and minute. How can I bring these.
I am signed in as my gmail account.

Have you tried selecting a new image for your lock screen wallpaper? That may be an old screenshot being used as the wallpaper.

  • Date & Time won't change

I tell the date & time preference panel to set the clock to current Pacific Time. Yet when I close the panel, the date & time reverts to GMT current time. Is there a plist that may be corrupted and I have to delete?

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to print it out as the Mac involved is at my sister's house, 70 miles away.
BTW, I determined that it only changed to GMT if I enabled "Set date & time automatically. From your referenced post, it sounds like there may be a mismatch between what the Date & Time Control Panel says and what is actually set.
So if com.apple.preferences.timezone.selected_city shows GMT, then I should delete that pref, restart and let a new one be created, correct?

  • Unable to Open Date & Time

I have been unable to Open Date & Time for several weeks now despite many attempts, rebootings and re-attempts. I get a "System Preferences has quit unexpectedly" message. It wasn't much of an issue when the time was correct, but the clock has recently reverted to December 31, 1969 and goes back to that date with each reboot. I have to hit a Continue button every time I go to a new website in Firefox (Safari no longer works) due to the time issue, and I can't purchase anything in iTunes.
    Any suggestions?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
One thing to try is to go to Disk Utility (in the Utilities folder) and verify and repair if necessary both permissions and the disk. If the start up disk needs repair, you will need to use the Disk Utility on one of the gray original discs that came with your computer. While you have the original discs out, you might try running the Apple Hardware test and see if anything shows up.
It also could be that your OS has become corrupted. If this is the case, you will need to reinstall it. But be sure and back up all your data before taking this step.
Please post back with any results.
    Good luck!

  • Cannot turn on "Show the day of the week" option in Date & Time

OS X Lion turns "Show the day of the week" option off each time I open that preference pane and after every reboot. My region in Formats tab of Language & Text preference pane is set to "Russia (Russian)". I've noticed that the problem doesn't appear when region is set to US (I didn't try others). Is there any known workaround, except changing my region preference?

    Me too.
And I have a workaround, until Фззду fixes it finally:
    1) Go to the ~/Library/Preferences, locate a file named com.apple.menuextra.clock.plist, open it with Plist editor (comes with XCode) or just with TextEdit.
    2) There's DateFormat key in it, change it to "EEE H:mm", save the file.
    3) Now Cmd-I (right click - Get info) on that file in Finder, and check option named "Locked" ("Защита").
System Preferences' Date & Time pane sets the aforementioned DateFormat to "ccc H:mm" when you tick the "Show the day of the week" option, while in Russian locale. And in English it becomes "EEE H:mm". The problem is that Sys.pref and even SystemUIServer (that shows the menu) processes somehow do not like the former value and erase it. After every relaunch of SystemUIServer (after reboot or being killed) tries to change "EEE" to "ccc" again (which would be cleared to nothing next time), that is why you have to lock the plist file.
