Apple computer for maximum speed

What Apple computer would give me the maximum speed for work with Lightroom5 without overpaing for the features which can not be used? I am real estate photographer working with enfused images.

First I strongly recommend that you determine if you want or need a notebook. By this time you probably have identified the college(s) you really want to attend and maybe even gotten early acceptance. Is the college you want to attend one that places emphasis on having a computer in class?
Any Mac you buy today is plenty fast enough to handle what you want to do, but there are two questions to ask yourself. 1) will the computer physically last the 4-5 years it will take you to graduate? The iMac and mini are much more likely to survive than a notebook. You probably wouldn't believe the number of ducktaped and otherwise jury rigged notebook computers I see on campus. 2) will the computer be able to handle 4-5 years worth of upgraded OS and/or software? I'm pretty confident about the iMac, mini and MacBook Pro but less so about the MBA.
Finally, I'm seeing loads more tablets with and without keyboard cases. Another possibility is to go with the desktop computer and reserve some $$$ for a future iPad purchase for portability.

Have been using Lightroom on my Apple computer for years. Now, ever since upgrading to Apple's  Yosemite operating system I get an error message (150:30) every time I try to open a lightroom file. Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Also how do I subscribe to Adobe's Premium Support? Every time I've tried (through contact support) I just get taken on an unending loop.

I think we need a lot more information.
Exactly what does the message say?
Exactly what files are you trying to open?
Exactly how are you trying to open them (what menu command or button or mouse action or keyboard shortcut)?
And lastly, what version of Lightroom are you using?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
It would give you more storage, but more importantly it will stop all your personal data getting mixed up.

  • Best Apple Computer for Video Editing (when you're on a budget)?

I shoot video on a Canon XL2 and edit with Final Cut Express. I am looking to get a more powerful computer to edit as I currently edit on a 2007/8 MacBook with 120GB hard drive. It gets the job done but rendering takes forever and I can tell my MacBook is slowing down. What is the best apple computer for video editing? And, what would you recommend if you're on a budget? iMac? MacBook Pro? Thanks for any and all help.

    Well, depending on budget...
Today, this would be my personal choice...

  • Lower range apple computer for FCP

can some one suggest me... what would lowest range of apple Computer that would support FCP. lowest by cost and specification!!
i m new to this FCP and would like to buy 1 apple machine for Practicing FCP.

+Dropped frames are no longer an issue? When did this happen?+
If and when you go tapeless Zeb then dropped frames become very much less of an "issue".
+Perhaps when transferring data to a media drive USB is fine, but last I saw when I opened up Final Cut Pro, that data still needs to be streamed to the user interface.+
And how much of an issue that it is depends wholly on the nature of the work combined with the severity of the issue. The occasional dropped frame certainly doesn't prevent me from telling a **** good story.
+But, if what you say is true ...+
    And it is
+... considering that the cost of firewire drives are hardly a premium anymore over USB2 drives why would one even risk dropped frames because of the protocol? Why not bother to set up a rig properly in the first place?+
Well I'm thinking our original poster from Bhutan is likely somewhat more limited in available resources and will want and need to use whatever is best available, especially seeing as they already noted that they were looking for the cheapest possible means to get their feet wet. Jumping all over privileged 11 year olds with spendy parents is one thing but not everyone is that lucky.

  • Buying an apple computer for gaming

hi guys.. i have a few questions about buying a mac computer.. im new to mac so please be patient with me.. i want to buy a computer for gaming and i was wondering what is the best choice in buying a mac computer.. my friends suggested the imac but because i already have a 27 inch monitor... i dont need two monitors.. i was thinking of buyng a quad core power mac but they said its too overpriced for a gaming pc.. im also hoping in installing windows in it.. would that be posible as well? thanks..

If you want to install Windows on it as well, you need at least an intel CPU based mac, so a power mac is not an option. Then you can install bootcamp to dual-boot your mac.
    Your options:
iMac: makes most sense, but then your old screen will be redundant.
Mac Mini: only Intel HD 4000 GPU, which won't cut it for high end games.
MacPro: has the power (and is upgradeable) , but you will pay for it dearly.
    A pure Windows box...
When you want to buy a computer specifically for gaming though, you will most of the time be booted in Windows anyway, so I think you will get the most bang for your buck if you go for the last option. If you want to use it for other things besides gaming, it makes sense that you'd want a Mac . But then I'd advise you to consider the iMac and try to sell your other screen or use it as a second monitor.

  • I haven't used an Apple computer for years. I need help getting started

I just bought a mac mini after 20 years using a PC.  I need help getting started.  Any beginning manuals out there?  Thanks.

Welcome back. Do not overlook the Finder and individual application Help menu support. The links provided above are great starter references. With tongue in cheek, they also may not be as current as the OS X release on your mini, so expect some differences.
Here are a litany of keyboard short-cuts, last updated in June 2012, that may prove selectively beneficial.
For actions like copy(c), paste(v), cut(x), print(p), and select-all(a), substitute the command key instead of control key.
If you right click on a file, this menu will seem familiar. Press the option key and notice the menu changes. If you copy a file(s) from this menu, change to the destination and then press option with the right button menu to see copy file(s) changed to move file(s).
To quickly view a file's contents, left click on the file icon, then press the space bar.
The native file format for OS X is PDF. Thus, when you choose to print, you also have the option to save as PDF with web links preserved.
    Enjoy your mini.

  • Apple Computer for College

First of all, let me apologize for the length and classification of this question, there was no way for me to pick multiple categories.
I am currently a senior in high school, and will be going to college this coming Fall. I will be going into the Music Department, so I will need a Mac computer. I will also be studying Computer Science.
My question is this: which Mac should I get?
Since I will be a music major and I enjoy doing multi-track recording on the side, apart from the regular internet, mail, and word processing, the Mac will have to be able to handle Garageband, Logic Pro, and (possibly) Finale without a hitch.
I will be receiving financial aid for this purchase, so I don't have a definite price tag, however $2000 sounds like a reasonable ceiling. I will definitely be purchasing the AppleCare Protection Plan. I am focusing on performance and longevity. I am very careful with my gadgets, and have resurrected several PCs and used them well beyond their expected expiration dates. Therefore, I fully expect this computer to last all through four years of college without me needing an upgrade.
What I Already Have/Will Definitely Purchase:
I won in a contest the iPad 2 a couple of years ago, and it has lasted well with no noticeable performance dips. I have the Clamcase for the iPad, which makes taking notes in class at my high school a breeze. Right now, that's my portable "laptop" for school. However, since I won it and didn't buy it, I had no opportunity to get the AppleCare plan, so if it breaks, that's the end of its portability.
I have a decent Windows 7 Ultimate PC that I fixed after a hard drive failure that I will be taking to college with me. I hope to do all my tinkering on that machine, so I don't risk any damage to the Mac. Also, I won't need Bootcamp or Paralells for Mac, because I will have the Windows machine.
I plan on purchasing one or two external hard drives. If I end up doing recording/mixing on the Mac, (if it is possible) I will use one of the drives for that program, saving space on the computer itself.
I have several thumb drives, and I don't have a massive video/picture/music library, so space is not too much of an issue for me.
I already have a printer and a monitor.
    Macbook Air 2012:
I have done extensive research on the topic, and from what I've watched or read, the Macbook Air 2012 should support my needs. I absolutely love the design, and if my iPad or the case breaks, it will be just as (if not more) portable. I would upgrade the RAM to 8GB on purchase, but stick with the default space on the SSD. I was planning on the 13-inch model, but if there was a good reason, I could be swayed to consider the 11-inch with slightly less processing power.
    Macbook Pro 2012:
Many friends have warned me that the Air won't be fast enough, and that I will need the Pro. I think the Retina display is great, but not for me, I just wouldn't find the extra resolution useful (I don't do photo or video editing). Then I could fork over more cash for performance upgrades.
My real worry with this machine is that my iPad will break, and I will try to take this notebook to class and back and end up tilting and damaging the hard drive. That or it will prove too bulky to take in my backpack. However I haven't had the chance to try it vs. the Air, so I don't know the performance difference.
    iMac 2012:
I haven't extensively considered the iMac, but if given some good reasons, I could be persuaded. As I said earlier, my worry is that the iPad will break and I will be stuck without a portable machine (I handwrite much slower than I type). And in college, I'm not 100% sure that I will have the money on hand to purchase another iPad whenever I need one.
And that's it! Let me know what you guys think, I really appreciate any and all input Even if it doesn't answer the whole question, any insight is helpful.

First I strongly recommend that you determine if you want or need a notebook. By this time you probably have identified the college(s) you really want to attend and maybe even gotten early acceptance. Is the college you want to attend one that places emphasis on having a computer in class?

What specific symptoms are you seeing that make you suspect malware?
You need to be aware that no anti-virus software is 100% reliable at detecting malware (and they're considerably worse than that at detecting adware), and many are quite a lot worse than 100% reliable. Plus many people mistake things for malware when they really aren't. So, we need to know what behavior you're seeing before we can give you any reasonable answers.

  • A new version of each program is installed on my Apple computer for every update downloaded ! Currently up to four CC

Why does CC not install new update over older version?..

the correct answer is - Adobe leaves older versions on your computer in case you are comfortable with that version and do not want to use all the new features - or so they say ;-0 However with Muse be sure to open older site in newer version if you plan to stop using the older version. This is if I understood the support guy's accent correctly something he was very touchy about ;-0 again

  • Do I need a new Apple ID for my second and third apple computers ....

I just bought a second and third apple computer for my team mates for my business, do I need to have separate Apple ID in order for my emails NOT to drop on their computers ? I didn't think about this before I registered them with apple and now I need to undo this so my emails aren't on those two computers...how do we use the iCloud but also not have my email accounts on their computers.. I just want their email only on their computer

Typically you have an Apple ID for each individual.  But if you do this, you can't share documents on the same iCloud account - it's not designed to be used this way.
If you sign in with the same iCloud account on each machine and use iCloud for email/calendar/contacts/messages then YES everyone will see each other's email and calendar, etc.
So you need to use separate iCloud accounts for each machine, and use something else (i.e. Dropbox or Box) to share files.

  • Ipad 2 or new computer for Garageband?  new home studio - Help

Any advice would be great.  I built a home studio loft in an old barn in my yard.  Problem is my main computer (imac) that I do all my work on has to stay in the house (we all use it - family)  SO .. I have to decide what to record on in the studio.  I have an ipad 2 ..  do I by the interface for it?  Use it to recoed, and then trasfer the garageband files /recordings from the ipad to my imac in the house ... and do my editing there?   Or do I look for a 3 year old macbook or some type of used Apple computer for the studio?
PS .. my set up curently is
imac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Garageband 09 ver. 5.1
    TASCAM US-144 usb audio interface
    MXL V63M - MIC
Then obviosly all my live instuments including a Roland TD4 drum kit (that is not easy to mix once recorded - kick drum)
My studio monitors or SAMSON USB Studio dock ... and they are not great
Any advice/coments on the equipment would be great too ..  thanks eveyone

Could I record with that and as you say .. do the heavy lifting in the house on the imac
if you already have it, try it and see how the workflow is.
the caution is that this too is a one way street: the new version of GB on the iMac will open the older files, but once you save them you won't be able to open the newly saved files on the old machnie in the old version of GB

Logging into itunes store on each machine wth different Apple IDs is OK Autorising each others machines with the other Apple ID is OK. This is completley separate from Home Sharing
For Home Sharing to work you need to
File > Home Sharing > Create Home Share.
You need to select one of the two Apple IDs you are using and ENTER THIS ON BOTH MACHINES WHEN CREATING THE HOME SHARE.
    Home sharing will then work
