Apple Configurator apps deploy - Apple ID

Hi to all,
I have search in the forums for a similar discussion but with no luck.
I really hope that you can help me.
I have to enroll a large number of devices iOS, I'll use Apple Configurator and I want to push an app (downloaded from iTunes) to all my devices. I noticed that the app is downloaded using my Apple ID. The question is: when in the future will be an update on that app from App Store, the devices will ask to the users the Apple ID credentials of MY account (the Apple ID that I used in Apple Configurator) or the App Store will ask their actual Apple ID credentials?
Thank you all for support.

Hi SSoman,
Yes wrant is right. If you are Supervising iPads, then get one iPad first and Supervise it in Apple Configurator. Then add apps to Apple Configurator (which you downloaded with iTunes). Use Apple Configurator to install those apps onto your newly Supervised iPad. Organize the apps into folders the way you want. Once all apps are in the folders you want them to be in, create a supervised backup of that iPad. Use that "master" backup and restore that backup on to any additional iPads. Apps will stay in their designated folders
Hope this answers your question!

  • HT5188 Apple Configurator - App Deployment

The school I support bought ipads 3 or 4 years ago when there was no way of deploying the software and managing licensing.  Quite a few Apps have been bought.  How do I get the redemption codes of these and can I just use Apple Configurator to deploy apps as the ipads are already set up and backed up?

I have heard of people getting redemption codes out of apple for your existing apps.  You should talk with your sales representative.
You may clone your ipads.  You will need to have the same paid apps on all the machine. Or at a minimum delete the apps you have not paid for.

  • Organize documents into folders via the Apple Configurator app?

I am trying to load a huge number of documents onto several iPad Airs using a MacBook Pro running Mavericks OS and the Apple Configurator app.  Is there a way to organize these into folders using the app?  I have a tree of folders on the MacBook Pro that contain pdf files.  I would like to recreate this folder tree structor on teh iPads without having to lay hands on each unit.

That folder icon is for importing documents. Unless I've missed something, there is no way in the current version of Pages to organize documents in folders. You may want to consider a different app such as Documents To Go.

  • Apple Events App For Apple TV

    Hi!
About a day before the last event of Apple an app called "Apple Events" appeared in my Apple TV, and in it I could watch past events of Apple, as well as a streaming of the live event. WWDC 2013 will start tomorrow, and I would like to watch the main event live on my Apple TV. Meanwhile, the app hasn't showed up...
When does this app appears? Can I make it appear whenever I want? How can I watch the event live tomorrow?
    Thanks in advanced,
    Ofek Zeevi

If you are talking about seeing it in the iTunes Store view.  It will only show what Apple chooses to put there.  Nothing you can do.  Also you will NOT be able to view the Keynote live.  Apple will make the Keynote video available in the evening that day.  If it does not show up in the store you can search for Apple Keynote under podcasts.  It will be available there too.

  • Apple Configurator [App Updates]

In Apple Configurator, once Apps are loaded, to update apps you must
    Update the Apps in iTunes
Re-import (or Re-Add) the Apps in Apple Configurator
This is fine, except to update Apps, you must answer Cancel/Replace for each App updated. If I have more than 70+ apps, this becomes quite tedious. I know I can just import the apps that are actually updated, but that is also tedious. Many apps are not named the way they are in iTunes (eg Adobe Photoshop Express in iTunes is named PS Express.ipa when looking for the app).
This could be SO MUCH SIMPLER if Apple would include a Replace All checkbox.
Unless someone knows some trick I am not aware of ???

    1. Make sure iPad is using the latest software
    2. Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>On
    3. Make sure Time Zone is correct
    4. Reset iPad. Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

  • Apple Configurator - app list is narrow, can't widen?

Does anyone know how to deal with this oddness in Apple Configurator?
The app list is extremely narrow, truncating all the app names and details. Note the list is not as wide as the window.
Nowhere are there controls to widen the window. Clicking and dragging around the white app list edge does nothing.
Maximizing the Apple Configurator to full screen does not change anything. The App list remains narrow and the names stay cut off.

I downloaded the apps using iTunes on my master Mac Air laptop.
I can set up apps onto iPads.  I just need to know if I can install the apps into pre-defined folders.

  • Apple Configurator - Apps not installing (showing they are installed)

I have 10 VPP codes that I am trying to put on iPads.  I select the paid app, which shows 10 in the licenses box.  I apply that to the iPads and they all finish.  The license number goes to 9, with the app only installing on 1 of the iPads.  When you check the apps installed on the other iPads, the paid app in checked in Apple Configurator, but it is not on the iPad.  Any ideas.
These are iPad 2's running iOS 7.

Try to update your apps-most apps need to be updated to work with iOS 5.
We had the same issue and it resolved with updating all apps.

  • Apple Configurator (Mass deployment)

We are using AC to deploy 300 iPads. Problem I am having is after I prepare/supervise them on one mac, I cannot use another mac to do anything with the ipads.  I have the option selected "allow devices to connect to other Macs". For some reason we can only use one mac. When I connect an iPad to another mac I get "this iPad is supervised by another computer and cannot be used with this computer"
Any ideas what could be going wrong? Everything else has been working.  There's no way we can allow only one mac to manage all these devices.  If it breaks, gets lost or stolen, we are screwed.

You better backup your mac faithfully.
There is a procedure for moving your backup to another mac computer.
I have the option selected "allow devices to connect to other Macs" This is for allowing the user to transfer pictures and video to their computer.  It's not about supervision.
To administer from multiple computers.  You need a commercial mdm.
    MDM  -- moble device management
    MDMs
Airwatch, Meraki, MobileIron, OS X Server, or Zenprise

  • Avi/WMV video using Apple Remote App to Apple TV via iPad?

Will this work if I install the codecs to play these with quicktime? Or do I need to manually convert my videos to .mov to stream them?
I don't have these actual products to test so I can't try to figure it out myself but if anyone has come across this I would love to know the answer. Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
When using the remote app on the iPad/iPhone etc, the content is streamed from iTunes to the Apple TV, it is played by the Apple TV not by iTunes, therefore installing Quicktime components on your mac/pc will not help the Apple TV decode an unsupported stream.
I hope this is what you were asking.

  • Updating Apps using Apple Configurator

How do you updates apps already on ipads using Apple Configurator?

tmbethea, I'm in a similar boat but have found workarounds using a combination of Apple Configurator to deploy a base then using a commercial MDM to manage devices remotely for about 200 ipads spread throughout the US.  I'm using two different MDMs at the moment and can confidently answer most of your questions about either AirWatch or Good (hardly an MDM but has some MDM features).

  • Apple Configurator Buy App Problem

I working in Hong Kong School, Our School have over 150 ipad, I used the apple configurator to synchronous all of ipad free App,
Now, Our School want to buy some App to user, I see your apple support communities need Using Volume Purchase Program (VPP) Redemption Codes to buy the App. But the Education VPP Program Manager Enrollment can not select my country Hong Kong, How can I use the VPP to buy App?
    Thank your help

Basically, you go to the Apple Volume Purchase Program for Education Store and find the app you want. You select an app and how many copies you want…lets say 20 copies. You then download an Excel spreadsheet that includes 20 VPP Redemption Codes. You take this Excel file and import it into Apple Configurator. As you install the app using Apple Configurator, it keeps track of how many codes you've used. After you've installed it on 20 iPads, you will no longer be able to install the app on additional iPads unless you purchase more VPP codes.
See the info on VPP starting on page 22 of this PDF:

Here's how to use Apple Configurator to deploy paid apps using VPP codes:

  • How does apple Configurator Backup App data? Or does it at all?

    Hello,
I use Apple Configurator at two schools. All of the iPads that the schools own are supervised via Apple Configurator.
How does the backup feature work in Apple Configurator? I know it backs up folders and photos and videos. But does it backup app data? And how?
I understand that apps themselves are not backed up. But if an iPad is completely wiped / restored via apple configurator / apps are put back on / then backup is restored.... when does the app data get re-applied (if it does at all?)
    Mac OS 10.9.4
    Apple Configurator Version 1.5 (424)
I know iTunes can backup and restore app data. My question is does Apple Configurator do it? And how / what is the best way?
    Thank you.

When you boot yoru iMac, if you hold down the option key, at the boot meny, do you have an option for "Network" booting  If so, then your machine didn't come with an install disc, it allows for internet restore form Apple servers (although it will need to perform the 4.7GB download if you use it).
If you run the Boot Camp Assistant, you should be presented with an option to download the windows support files from Apple servers.  For machines which didn't come with install/restore discs, this is the way to get the files you need.

  • Apple Configurator not loading find my iphone app

Have 4G iphones with iOS 6.1.3 trying to load via Apple Configurator app 'Find My iPhone' v 2.0.2.  Can load all other apps but this one. Has anyone encountered this problem and know a fix please?

Thanks for responding.  I have over 100 iPhones I'm updating for our company- I was hoping that 'Find My iPhone' app would load like all the other app's using Apple Configurator. I would prefer not to install 'Find My iPhone' for each iPhone via iTunes.

  • Apple Configurator.ipa file linked to Apple ID

Is there a way to separate a free app deployed through the Apple Configurator from the Apple ID that was used to download the .ipa file in the first place.  The association with the original Apple ID causes the two to be linked and therefore users cannot update the App without entering the password of the originating Apple ID.

AirWatch can't take a backup of an iPad and redeploy that image such as you'd use in Symantec Ghost.  It can deploy apps based on a specific configuration that you define, but it's not as seemless as Apple Configurator where you can force any app to one or many ipads at the same time with the click of a single button.
There's a downside to deploying apps via Apple Configurator though and that is the binding of the Apple ID to the app which also affects how that app is updated.  Back to gyrhead's response to my question, "You could use a generic organizational Apple id for the Configurator piece just for this purpose and provide everyone with the log in credentials for it" but even this isn't fool proof.
If sharing a single Apple ID works for you, then you have your answer.  As a workaround to avoid sharing Apple ID's, I've had to delete the app that was loaded by Apple Configurator and ask the user to re-install the app from AirWatch's App Catalog or push it OTA from AirWatch's console.
