Apple Configurator IOS version to deploy

Hi, I would appreciate your assistance. I have the latest version of Apple configurator as of 02/12/2014. I have plugged in 3 ipads which are all IOS 8.11 the latest version and clicked prepare but, configurator is now downloading version 8.1.1 and says it will take 8 hours.
How can I download the lates verion of IOS 8.1.1 and tell configurator to use the use the downloaded copy ( where do i place it)?
Thank You
Kili

The only way I know to manually update iPad's iOS is through iTunes. Then each type of device needs a specific version of the iOS.

  • Apple Configurator & IPAD 3 enterprise deployment

    Good morning/afternoon,
So we are deploying many iPad 3's in my organisation and I have been given the job of deploying these things out to users across the country.  I have a new iMac with apple configurator and I would like to deploy these out, unsupervised, to our users.  It needs to include the latest IOS, several apps, exchange profile and some device lock password policies.  Further down the line I would like to use configurator to complement our Airwatch MDM solution, but that comes later.  So I have got to the stage where I have been able to deploy the latest iOS (5.1.1) and install some apps as well as restore a backup in order to configure wallpaper etc.  The only real hang up at the moment is with exchange mail payloads.  I would like to be able to install all of the aforementioned items/configurations, including email and wifi settings and then hand the iPad to the user.  However when the configuration gets to the exchange mail and lockout password bit in the deployment, it prompts me for the users email and password as well as a screen lockout password.  The problem here is obvious, I do not have the users email or password and even password for lockout of the device, why would I?  I have been given the job to batch configure many ipad's and all I want is for the user to open there shiny new iPad 3 box and then follow the profile wizard to setup their email/pass code and whoalla, customised by the user for them to use.
I simply don't want it to prompt me for this information at deployment time in configurator.  I just want a green tick! Is this achievable? Or do I need to rely on our MDM for this?
Also is there a way to assign a device to a user if it is not supervised?
    Thanks for reading.

Just to clarify to use the correct terms, I'm just using Apple Configurator to prepare the devices, 2 different business units, with a set of different default apps.

  • Apple Configurator iOS 7 BIG PROBLEMS

As far as I can tell, any iOS 7 update, that was performed over air, will break Supervision. AC 1.4 would see a device, but would not perform any task, except to update the iOS. It would fail at Check In/Check Out and App install or update/refresh. The AC 1.4.1 update, seemed to resolve this Supervision piece, thus allowing the iOS device to update, install new app's, and check itself in/check out, however, not before completely wiping all user documents and data, and then re-supervising itself... I oversee about 500 iPads, 200 of which are locked into this nightmare. Has anyone else experienced this "bug"? If so, how are you moving forward?
I have worked closely with enterprise support, but the issues are coming at us faster than any resolution can be suggested. Deleting data for 200 students, mid term isn't an acceptable "fix" guys. A proper working application, and workflow is what is needed here!
I had heard that VPP was changing their T&C's regarding code management, thus suggesting that other MDM's may be able to supervise and retain ownership of VPP codes. Is anyone else aware of this??
Apple Configurator is truly turning out to be a poor choice for our growing program...

    Helo there Bui Truong,
It sounds like you are experiencing unexpected interruptions when Airplaying to your Apple TV. I recommend starting with these steps from the following article, named:
Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
Restart your Apple TV by choosing Settings > General > Restart.
Try restarting your Wi-Fi router or modem by turning it off and then on again.
If possible, connect an Ethernet cable and verify your Internet connection. If you can connect to the Internet using an Ethernet connection, verify that your Apple TV is using the latest software by choosing Settings > General > Software Update. If your Apple TV can be updated, install the update and then try the steps again.
If the issues persist and you have already restarted your computer, I would next verify that your router is set up with the recommended settings for Apple devices using this:
iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • Apple Configurator - Unsupervised mode app deployment

I'm curently using apple configurator (unsupervised mode) for the initial setup/build of iPad Airs which will be managed by MobileIron, whereby 4 default apps for the department are added to the app list in apple configuartor to be installed, I need to create another build for another business unit, I cannot see an option to save the profile with the apps listed, then create another profile with a different set of apps, basically 2 different builds for the different buisness units.

  • ZMM to manage iOS without Apple Configurator

I am looking for some additional information or possibly someone who is doing the following with ZMM in a school or similar environment.
What I would like to do is to drop the Apple Configurator portion of my deployment of iPads and iPhones so that I only have to manage a single Mobile Management setup. I am having some problems with my deployment which is forcing me to take a second look at whether ZMM is mature or ready for what I am wanting to do. I have been running ZENworks for the PC for 10 years so have some experience in how to manage and force the devices to stay connected.
First I guess I should list what I am looking to do. - I would like to do a simple setup of iPads primarily with Network connection and then MDM enrollment (either by me or the end user). Then I would like to provide application deployment using Apples VPP setup. Part of my problem here is that I still need to keep ownership of the apps. I had to deploy Apple Configurator in the past to accomplish this. With the new VPP setup and ZMM 2.8.0 having an ability to remove VPP codes I am hopeful that I can get closer to my goal.
Here is my frustration with ZMM. Perhaps I am doing something wrong or have the wrong impression. I had issues upgrading my ZMM 2.7.3 system to 2.7.6 which require an SR to resolve. Before that time the Enterprise app would not sync even with the app running the background. This seemed to be resolved once we got the server upgraded. Fist to 2.7.6 then during that process to 2.8.0. Now the new problem is that Unless the end users keep apps closed and only run the ZENworks app unless they need the other app the ZENworks app seems to stop responding and doesn't check in with the server like I expected. I have tried to get my end users to keep this process up but that has been almost impossible with only 3 or 4 end users doing this successfully out of about 65. In my opinion it is a little much to ask a standard end user to put that much time and energy to keep the apps clean to that degree just to keep ZENworks talking correctly. As a matter of observation, most of my end users will not even try.
Another area that I haven't been able to get good traction on is keeping the ZENworks app updated. I e-mail out asking the end devices to stay updated to the latest version but again have had very little traction. My Server still shows a small group of devices running 2.8.0. I have a good chunk running 2.7.6 but that is only due to me running around updating the apps for the user. Anyone have a good strategy on how to keep this updated correctly?
I have played with the VPP app removal process but haven't had any success yet. I was able to push out the app with success but the removal hasn't had any success at this point.
Has anyone had success with pushing out a deployment for MDM like this? Any pointers or documentation you can share or even pointing me in the right direction within Novell's Docs that could be helpful? Right now I have to question whether staying with ZMM is wise. I already have twice the money in keeping it running then I do in the original purchase of the product.
    Thanks
    Richard

  • Restoring iPads through Apple Configurator

We are a library that has 8 iPads that we are trying to set up through Apple Configurator. Everything has been working well so far, but we've been having problems with the check in/out function. The iPad starts the restore process as it's supposed to, but it does not complete (on any of our iPads). The screen turns off and the spinner appears briefly, then the Apple logo appears on the screen. Up to this point things seem fine, but then the apple logo dissapears and it looks like the iPad has turned itself off. It does not turn on again, even after several minutes. I can turn it on manually at this point, and then the restore process will finish correctly. But there is no way to restore without having to turn the iPad back on manually in the middle of the process. Has anyone had this problem with Apple Configurator before? Is it just a bug in the most recent version (we didn't have this problem up until a few weeks ago).
Our iPads are running the latest version of iOS (6.0.1), and the Mac has the latest version of OS X (10.8.1). Apple Configurator is version 1.2.1. Thanks!

create and deploy a backup that doesnt have epub metadata in it.
if you have a restore image with the same UDID as the device and the one of its previous backups, the problem is you have itunes checked to sync books when you imported the backup into config'erater.
if you import a backup of a device with no .epub location data, then cant put them on there
you may also be able to go into itunes and delete the appdatastore content for ibooks, ensure the sync option for ibooks is unchecked, construct clean backup, import, deploy.

  • Apple Configurator - Consistently Inconsistent - Same failures every time

I use Apple Configurator every week, to deploy iPads in schools and colleges around the country.  Lately, I have been consistently having the same issue...
I'm using any combination of MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini (no earlier than 2012) and OS X 10.9.5, 10.10, 10.10.1. and Apple Configurator 1.6 (445).  the iPads are nearly always new and they are either iPad 2, 4 or Air, but not too often iPad 2 these days.  I use a Lock n Charge trolley, a GoCabby or a Kensington Charge n Sync cabinet.
Simply trying to update the iOS version using Configurator, before turning on Supervised mode, installing apps, profiles, etc. and when I click prepare, with 16 iPads plugged in, it will fail on 8 of them the first time.  Without doing anything other than clicking stop and prepare again, it will then fail on, say 5, of them.  Then clicking stop and prepare again, it will work on 3 or the remaining 5, then eventually will finish them all.  Having changed literally no setting and just stopping and starting again, it completes a few more, but never all of the connected iPads.  This takes a serious amount of time for clients that are billed by the hour and it's ridiculously frustrating.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do?

Another issue that has now arisen, is that when turning on supervised mode, the supervision profile does not show up in settings.  After I install an MDM profile, the supervision profile then shows up in settings.
Not only that, but some of the iPads, when being set up with Configurator, will give an error message saying 'cannot verify supervision state', even though the iPads are showing up in the supervised tab.
You can no longer download older versions of Apple Configurator from the App Store, only 1.7, which means you have to upgrade to Yosemite and purchase the update for the 'Server' app (if you're using it).
They say a bad workman blames his tools, but without an alternative to Apple Configurator...

  • Do I need Apple Configurator?

I've red there is a way to implement a profile to iOS devices
    Using Apple Configurator (iOS only)
    In an email message
    On a webpage
    Using over-the air configuration
Over the air using a Mobile Device Management Server
I kind of find this interesting and want to practice with coding an app that can implement similar functionality that Apple Configurator does, but I'm concerned, let's say I complete this app and want to publish it to the app store, obviously it won't be Apple Configurator because I don't want to have all the functionality it does, I want a limited profile implementation app that perhaps members of the school districts I look over can use. Would I run into problems with this app in the app store?

Export the license to a folder and then delete it from Keychain. Import it again and then it will give you an option to trust it.

  • Router + IOS version recommendation for WCCP

    Hello,
I would like to know the recommended list of router + IOS version to deploy load balancing using WCCPv2 with squid web caches or cisco WAEs, initially in a test environment and later for a production environment.
I have used the following routers and learnt that they are deprecated/EOLed.
    Cisco 3600, IOS 12.3(1a); Cisco 2600 IOS 12.3(9a)

    Hi Govind
You need to bascially validate the amount of bandwidth consumption and the traffic being handled by the router.
Based on the same you can decide on the router platform.
Once you are done with deciding your server platform you can think off going on for the specific ios featuer set which can support WCCP V2 which you can obtain using different tools available out here in CCO.

  • VPP and Apple Configurator

We started our iPad deployment with just a few iPads.  We bought some VPP and use them to install apps on a few devices.  Now we have added to the group of iPads to make it a cart of 20.  We are going to start using configurator to setup and manage them.  Is it possible to take the codes we have used on the first iPads and move them over to Apple Configurator so we can deploy the apps that way?

My understanding is you need to have deployed in supervisor mode on the ipad to get the code back.  You may want to talk to your apple salesperson to discuss alternative ways of getting the codes back.

Sorry for the confusion, I have one backup for each model.  The iPad Airs are able to use cellular data but they are not going to be activated with the carrier ( Verizon ).  We are only using them with WiFi. The issues is Apple Configurator stops working as soon as it tries to activate and won’t push the backup.  Apple Configurator is only able to resetting and updating the OS. This only happen with the Airs, I use the same process with iPad 2 with cellular data, not activated with the carrier ( Verizon ) no issues.  I don’t currently have an iPad Air but remember it was error 2 “ unable to activate ”.

So we just got a new Macbook and I also installed the apple configurator tool. I'm using it to prepare the iPads for deployment and it won't let me prepare them? It gets an error stating "retrieving iOS info from apple" then it stops and says "internet error". My Internet connection is fine with the Mac-book. It shows the iPad is listed under the Prepare logo up top as 1 but under supervise none are shown. Although it does show itself in iTunes. Also the profile I created is fresh and has no errors. We have tryed nearly everything I cna think of and online forums are not giving us to much info on this error.

A wag at this.  A port issue?
    "Apple Push Notification network setup
When MDM servers and iOS devices are behind a firewall, some network configuration may need to take place in order for the MDM service to function properly. To send notifications from an MDM server to Apple Push Notification service, TCP port 2195 needs to be open. To reach the feedback service, TCP port 2196 will need to be open as well. For devices connecting to the push service over Wi-Fi, TCP port 5223 should
    be open."

Did you follow the instructions here:

Pay attention to differences in power connection depending on whether or not you have AppleTV2 or AppleTV 3.
Also some microUSB leads don't seem to work - try another if you can. Disconnect superfluous USB device/hubs too if possible.
