Apple Configurator not restoring apps

I have been using Apple Configurator for over a year now. How it has been working...I get an ipad like I like it (settings and apps, and app arrangement), back it up, then restore to all ipads at once in ipad syncing cart. Now it is not working...I back up the iPad but the restore does not restore the apps, only the pictures and setting on the ipad. Any idea why the apps are not being restored?

I am configuring a suite of iPads 2s. iOS 8.2. I can configure in the prepare screen and assign profiles but they do not appear in the Supervise tab (so cannot refresh. They also ignore the option to display the device name on the Lock Sreen.
I would be grateful for any help or advice.

Apple Configurator not restoring new iPad 2 with backup

I've been using Apple Configurator to restore new, out-of-the-box iPads with a back up image in order to skip the registration process and bind them to Profile Manager. Now that iPads are coming with OS 6, it seems that it's causeing the iPads to fail restore and I have to set the iOS setting to Latest (used to be "No Change").
I've remade back ups, updated to Apple Configurator 1.2.1, and taken out the profiles, but it seems that no matter what I do I can't restore an iPad 2 with just a backup without installing the latest iOS. It takes 4-5 times longer for each iPad and really slows down my deployment.

What if you get the "iPhone couldn't restore due to corruption"? That might be because of a difference in the iOS or simple because the previous backup process wasn't fully successful. Then I might recommend you to take a look at the iPhone Backup Extractor. Also I would love to see you picking up such a subject, how we can deal with corrupt backups. Cheers!

See if this fixes things.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then you can get a clue to what it is, and potentially use it, by going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and clicking 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you should see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have, or don't want to use, your rescue email address (you won't be able to add/change it until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support or Apple to get them reset (which will be by phone as they need to verify your id - we are fellow users here on these forums).
e.g. you can try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management , and then 'Forgotten Apple ID security questions'
or try ringing Apple in your country and ask to talk to the Accounts Security Team : http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
When they've been reset you can then use the steps half-way down this page to add/change rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312 . Or you could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570

HT202436 Apple Configurator not installing updated app versions

Hello all,
I have noticed that when i complete a batch of Ipads using Apple Configurator that apps installed on ipads are marked to be updated.
Before commencing using Configurator I have no apps which require updating in iTunes so I am wondering do i need to "purge" older versions of apps and import updated versions.
Configurator version 1.7.1
Itunes version 12.1
Mac OS 10.10.2
(Imac 2.66 early 2009)

Following advice - i have removed and reimported updated applications to Apple Configurator this worked without a hitch - i was able to import the latest versions of 10 applications but..
Upon refreshing one device I was not able to install Garageband even though the codes and application previously loaded about 5 minutes before. I then stopped the update because it had failed. After a period of time process stops cleanly. Message in configurator is "insufficient license codes" to install the Garageband.
Ok getting used to this game (not fun) but it fills in my day! Click on the application in Apple Configurator and import redemption codes (again). After a period of time (long) the message "Finished importing Redemption codes" appears but does not disappear - ie complete. Apple Configurator is now frozen.
I Force Quit Apple Configurator, all changes (work) is lost and possible the configurator database is now corrupt. I also now have the bonus of trying to fix another problem to fix.
Whilst the advice above is good & i am not critical of those who replied and would like to thank them. I am nearing the end of the line now with Apple Configurator

Apple Configurator not loading find my iphone app

Have 4G iphones with iOS 6.1.3 trying to load via Apple Configurator app 'Find My iPhone' v 2.0.2. Can load all other apps but this one. Has anyone encountered this problem and know a fix please?

Thanks for responding. I have over 100 iPhones I'm updating for our company- I was hoping that 'Find My iPhone' app would load like all the other app's using Apple Configurator. I would prefer not to install 'Find My iPhone' for each iPhone via iTunes.

Redemption code used to download app is not available in apple configurator to install app

I had to type in a redemption code to download the Kakooma app to our itunes library so we could copy it over to our Apple Configurator. Now when I have setup all the 26 Ipads through Apple Configurator it is telling me on the 26th Ipad that the redemption code has already been used. How do I work around this or fix this problem of applying the redemption code that was used to download the app to the Ipad? Please help. I have one student who can't practice their math facts on the Ipad.

Wait unti the app is done downloading in your iTunes. Then go back to your VPP account and down load the spreadsheet again and upload into configurator. The process is a pain, but the only way it works for you to get all of your codes into configurator.

Apple configurator and paid apps without VPP codes?

Is it possible to use the Apple Configurator to install paid apps by using Gifted apps?
We cant use VPP as it is not available outside the US and iTunes support suggested the following:
"Create separate accounts for each Apple ID, and there should be one designated "Purchasing account", which can purchase all of the necessary apps as gifts, and then the redemption codes can be sent to the correct Apple IDs"
Does anyone have other workarounds for this situation in case this is not possible?

Hi Lesli,
You could use an MDM solution like Meraki Systems Manager (free) http://www.meraki.com/products/systems-manager/ . Purchase VPP codes for your 1:1 teachers. Add the VPP codes to Meraki and distribute to teachers. That way the teachers wouldn't have to tie back to the AC computer. Meraki (and other MDMs) can do things wirelessly.
You could also email VPP codes to the teachers and have them redeem the codes with their own Apple IDs.
But to answer your question, yes you should create a separate VPP order for carts vs your 1:1 teachers.

Apple Configurator: installing an app

To determine if Apple Configurator will work for my company's needs, I have been testing it with my personal iPad.
After hours of testing and reading through documentation, I have 3 questions about using Apple Configurator to install a free app onto iPad.
Question 1: In-use iPads
I have been unsuccessful in using Configurator to install a free app onto my personal 1st-gen iPad. No matter what I try, I get this error message:
Apple ID not authorized.
Is there any way to use Configurator to install a free app onto an iPad that has previously been associated with an Apple ID?
Question 2: Brand-new iPads
My company needs to install a free app onto 300 new 3rd-gen iPads. Because my tests failed, I don't know if Configurator will actually help us with this task.
Can Configurator be used to simply install a single free app onto a bunch of brand-new iPads?
Question 3: Deleting & redownloading the app
The guide Deploying iPhone and iPad: Apple Configurator says on page 3:
To update apps deployed using Apple Configurator, you must reconnect to the same Mac from which the apps were installed. Additionally, you can’t redownload these apps via iTunes in the Cloud. [emphasis added]
Our goal is to install the free app onto the 300 iPads and then never to connect these iPads to Apple Configurator again. If the individual users want to update the app, they will need to delete the app and then redownload it from the App Store using their own Apple IDs.
Is it possible to delete a Configurator-installed app and then redownload it using a personal Apple ID?
I really appreciate any help that knowledgeable folks can give me.

As far as the 16-port hub, I agree a larger one would be nice once I know what I'm doing but again I'm trying to be fiscally responsible with the tax-payer money we use. Many deployment models I read about online suggested keeping yourself to 15-20 devices at a time instead of going for the 30 device Apple says or the 49-port sync that Datamation has. I appreciate the feedback though. If this pilot expands I will feel more comfortable suggesting the purchase of additional equipment.

Apple TV2 Not restoring - Unknown Error 14

My ATV2 started showing blank screen (while constantly trying to choose either 720p or 480p), with it's LED blinking rapidly. I've tried to restore / reset it with the remote and in iTunes.
Nothing works.
When connected, when I connect the ATV2 to my TV, it shows the iTunes logo and usb cable????
ATV shows in iTunes (via micro usb), I can start the restore procedure, but at the point of 'Verifying Apple TV restore with Apple' restore drops with the error message 'The Apple TV could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (14)'.
ATV has not been jailbroken. Latest update was about a month ago...
Is there something I'm missing?

Sorry. Not a great answer but I think it might be dead. If you can not restore it even from iTunes I am not aware of any other options to get it working again. You might try a different USB cable, and make sure the USB port is free of corrosion.

Apple Configurator - Unsupervised mode app deployment

I'm curently using apple configurator (unsupervised mode) for the initial setup/build of iPad Airs which will be managed by MobileIron, whereby 4 default apps for the department are added to the app list in apple configuartor to be installed, I need to create another build for another business unit, I cannot see an option to save the profile with the apps listed, then create another profile with a different set of apps, basically 2 different builds for the different buisness units.

IPhone restore from backup did not restore apps, photos, etc. What can I do?

Here is what I am dealing with. I have a black iPhone 4 and my girlfriend has a 3GS. She was eligible for an upgrade and let me use it to get the new white iPhone 4, and I would give her my black iPhone. I backed up both of our phones to iTunes last night in preperation for getting the new phone. Today, I restored my old iPhone 4 from her back up (from the 3GS). Everything went well and she has all her apps, photos, etc. I, however, restored my new white iPhone from my back up and was not so lucky. I lost all my photos, apps, music, etc. Anything I can do?

Apple Configurator - Uncheck paid app in Prepare mode

I'm using Configurator to deploy some iPads with a single paid app. I've imported the VPP codes and created a supervised backup to restore from and everything is just fine with that.
However, now I want to take another set of iPads that will NOT be supervised. But in Prepare mode I look at the available apps, and my paid app (with 1 code remaining) is checked to install, and it's grayed out, so I can't UNcheck it. The free apps I have added are not grayed out so I can check and uncheck them. Essentially, Configurator is forcing me to install this paid app when I prepare an iPad. The worst part is that it fails to install the app before it restores the backup, so I'm stuck with an out-of-the-box iPad.
How can I tell Configurator I DO NOT want to install the paid app?!?
I'm hoping there is something simple I'm missing here.

Oh thank God - it was simple.
For the paid app, it was grayed out because supervision was set to off. But of course, it kept its last state. So the solution is to turn supervision on in Settings, then switch to Apps and you'll be able to uncheck it. Then go back to Settings and turn supervision back off.
After doing that, I was able to prepare the iPad without Configurator attempting to install the paid app. So silly...
