Apple Configurator Question

I have accidentally deleted the app in AC which contain VPP codes, and after I reimported the app back to AC, it seems that I can no longer reassign to any devices or remove the app from device or retrieve redemption code...
Help please!!!

I haven't experienced this before, but here's what I would try if I was in your shoes...
Re-download the VPP spreadsheet from Apple. Re-add the app from iTunes into Apple Configurator under the Supervised tab (you will have to redeem one VPP code to download the app in iTunes, unless you've already redeemed the code with the Apple ID authorized in iTunes in which case you can download it from your past purchases. Remember the Apple ID used to authorize iTunes must be the same Apple ID that you use in Apple Configurator). Re-import the codes into Apple Configurator. Try synching again. The reason to do this is that Apple Configurator doesn't actually "use" the codes. It is just keeping a record of the codes. You use one code in iTunes on the computer to download the .ipa file. Then import that .ipa file into Apple Configurator. When you re-import the new VPP code spreadsheet into Apple Configurator it should show that you have all codes available as long as you are using the same Apple ID in iTunes that you are in Apple Configurator. (the key word here being "should")
If this doesn't work, contact VPP for Education support. Explain your situation and ask them to restore your VPP code(s). They will. Here's the online form: https://ssl.apple.com/support/itunes/vpp-edu/
Hope this helps. Good luck!!

  • Apple Configurator Web Content Filtering Question

I manage a few K12 classroom sets of iPods via Apple Configurator and I have a younger classroom that wants to limit web access to a few sites and I have been trying to adjust the profile in Apple Configurator to make this happen but it doesn't work.
I open the profile and go to the Web Content Filter option and add a payload to only allow specific websites and enter the URLs and apply the updated profile to the supervised device but I can still get anywhere I want in Safari. I have tried this process for an hour now to no avail and can't seem to find anything online.
The only thing I can think of is that this option to limit to specific sites is only available to iOS 7(?). We own quite a few of the 4th generation iPod Touches that are obviously denied this upgrade and so am looking for any help or validation that this option in Apple Configurator is available only to iOS 7 supervised devices???
    Thanks.

Here is my answer as per an email from Chris C. a Systems Engineer for Apple Education:
That was a new feature added with Apple Configurator 1.4 and works with iOS 7 supervised devices. I will research this a bit more to see if there is a way around this to work with iOS 6 devices and will follow up with you shortly.
I understand that you cannot always support "older" operating systems but am truly frustrated with Apple's lack of support on iOS 6 devices when this is what so many K12 schools will have...

  • Question about setting a web clip in Apple Configurator, to by-pass touching Free and Install App.

    Hello.
I'm using Apple Configurator, and have a web clip linked to iTunes Preview webpage for an app.
On the iTunes Preview page, you can touch Free, then Install App.
Am I able to by-pass touching Free and Install App?
That way, the end user touches the icon, and it directs them to Sign In using Existing or Create ID.
    I hope this makes sense.
    Thank you,
    Jeremy

    Hi,
You can only enter one code per iTunes account for the same app. So if you were not to use Configurator, you would enter one code into iTunes and sync the all the iPads to that iTunes account manually keeping track of your codes for any audit purposes. You could create a backup and restore to each of the iPads. I use encrypted backup. I have only used Configurator at this time to update iOS, it works very well for that and cuts down on update time greatly. I am leery of configurator with VPP because of all of the issues posted. I would have used VPP/Configurator exactly as you had stated.
I thought from your post you were able to get all of your apps loaded except for the two that were greyed out. I was curious if you would be able to go into the App store on the one iPad that did not get the two apps because they were grayed out and sign in to the apple ID where those two apps resided ( the iTunes account you used for Configurator) and download them. I am not sure if once you associate an iTunes account to Configurator if that marks the paid apps in itunes so they can not be used. I think that it would not.
I would also call the Apple Store support for Education. They may be able to help and or they will know your area rep.
Good luck, Please post your outcome, I am sure there are many who would benefit.

  • How do I reset ipad in apple configurator

trying to configure ipads in configurator, cant get it to work correctly. it there a way to delete existing profile and wipeout ipad to start new again. I cant get configurator to see ipad in prepare mode. thanks.

Just guessing it sounds like you have used configurator on this iPad before it stopped showing in Prepare. So most likely you have supervised this iPad, and now it will only show up in the Supervise tab.
Have only the iPad in question plugged into the Mac, go to the Supervise tab and click USB connected devices on the left hand side. If an iPad is in that list, there it is. If you would still like to wipe it and start fresh, right click (or click with two fingers at the same time, depending on your settings) on the iPad and a drop down menu will appear. Click on 'Unsupervise'. That will wipe your iPad and unsupervise it, as if it was a brand new iPad that had never been plugged into Apple Configurator.

  • In Apple Configurator, can I set up different sets of iPads with different apps loaded? Or will all iPads synced with Configurator be required to have the same build?

In Apple Configurator, can I set up different sets of iPads with different apps loaded? Or will all iPads synced with Configurator be required to have the same build?

    Hi jshira86,
You can definitely have different sets of iPads with different apps loaded. When you "supervise" your iPads, you will see that on the left side of the Configurator window there is a "+" sign in the lower left corner. Click it to create a new device group. With this new device group you can choose what apps and configuration profiles you want to install on that group of iPads. Create as many groups as you want to customize the apps and profiles you want on them.
    Hope this answers your question!

  • Apple Configurator Wi-Fi password bug? or just need to RTFM?

I've been playing around with the new Apple Configurator for a few days now and have run into a problem when creating profiles that I want to install on a few iPad 2s.  I'm either doing something fundamentally wrong and need to RTFM more closely, or there's a bug in the software that I'm hoping someone could (a) confirm and (b) provide a workaround.
The problem is when I define a Wi-Fi payload for a network that uses WPA2 Enterprise (PEAP with user/pass RADIUS authentication) in that Apple Configurator steadfastly refuses to save the password.  I've tried installing Configurator on a couple of different Macs and have been able to replicate this problem on each of them.  I have also tried recreating the profile in Configurator and also importing a profile into the it from IPCU.  In this scenario, Configurator *does* remember the Wi-Fi password, but  does *not* remember/honor the passcode timeouts.   Furthermore, *any* changes I make to the imported profile wipes the saved Wi-Fi password.
I realize that this is 1.0 software, but somehow I expected something a little bit more polished from Apple (afterall, it's not "0.9b").  So the question for the community is this:  Am I doing something wrong or is this simply a bug?   Is there a workaround that anyone has discovered?
    TIA,
    Mike

Thanks for the reply.  I was in touch with a Apple engineer who also recommended that I file a bug report.  The Bug ID for this is: 11054681.
In the meantime, I was able to figure out a workaround.
Create configuration profiles in IPCU for (a) Wi-Fi (b) Passcode settings and (c) Everything else
Export each of those config profiles
Using Apple Configurator, import those profiles into it using the "+" button
Prepare and Supervise the devices as usual.
So long as I don't touch the Wi-Fi or Passcode profile, Configurator honors the password and passcode settings and applies them to the iOS devices as expected.  Another reason to use IPCU for the passcode settings is that IPCU allows for Autolock to be set up to 15 minutes whereas Configurator only allows for up to 5 minutes.
Another bug (feature?) that I noticed is that if you have a configuration profile that contains Web Clips, Configurator duplicates those Web Clips on the iPad when you make and apply changes to a supervised device.  If the Web Clip is defined as "Not Removable", you're left with multiple copies of the same Web Clip on the iPad.  The only way I was able to get around that was to either (a) not use Web Clips or (b) Erase all Settings from the iPad and allow Configurator to reapply the config everytime I made any changes to the iPad.  I also filed a bug report for this behavior (Bug ID# 11054780)
Anyhow, Configurator has a lot of promise, just a lot of bugs for a 1.0 release.
    Regards
    Mike

  • Updating Apps using Apple Configurator

How do you updates apps already on ipads using Apple Configurator?

tmbethea, I'm in a similar boat but have found workarounds using a combination of Apple Configurator to deploy a base then using a commercial MDM to manage devices remotely for about 200 ipads spread throughout the US.  I'm using two different MDMs at the moment and can confidently answer most of your questions about either AirWatch or Good (hardly an MDM but has some MDM features).
I have a similar discussion going on here:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/18942350#18942350

  • How to clear Apple Configurator "Restore" items

I would like to clear the old items in the Restore dropdown in Apple Configurator and I can't seem to find a pref file or anything that relates to it.

    Hi ThurstinJ,
If you delete the .iosdevicebackup file on your computer for the backup listed, it'll remove the item the next time you close out of Configurator and relaunch it. Do a Spotlight search on your Mac for the one(s) you want to remove (eg. iPad1.iosdevicebackup ) and Trash it. I've done this in both Apple Configurator v1.2.1 and 1.3.1 and it works.
    Hope this answers your question!

  • Can't import spreadsheet in Apple Configurator

I just bought codes for an app in the VPP Store and proceeded to try to import the spreadsheet into Apple Configurator and this is the error that appears:
"There was a problem importing the redemption codes. The file “Preview.html” couldn’t be opened because there is no such file."
Several weeks ago, I did successfully import a spreadsheet, but even that one wouldn't  re-import.  I'm running 10.7.5 and Apple Configurator version 1.2.1.

After weeks of e-mails and calls back and forth with Apple, my problem was solved.  Below is the message that gave me the solution.  I don't know if my problem was isolated or if this may apply to anyone else having the problem.
"Okay so basically here is the issue
there is a folder at the root level named tmp but there shouldn't be.  We need to remove that folder and create the folder where it should be
    Remove the /tmp folder.
Note: please make sure this command is typed out exactly the way you see it below, without the $
    $ sudo rm -R /tmp
    2. Create the new symbolic link.
    $ sudo ln -s private/tmp /tmp
Do those 2 steps and if the issue isn't solved then call me or email me back. Those commands are case sensitive and very sensitive to mistake.  So please make sure they are EXACT.  If you have any questions call or email before running the commands."

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then you can get a clue to what it is, and potentially use it, by going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and clicking 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you should see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have, or don't want to use, your rescue email address (you won't be able to add/change it until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support or Apple to get them reset (which will be by phone as they need to verify your id - we are fellow users here on these forums).
e.g. you can try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management , and then 'Forgotten Apple ID security questions'
or try ringing Apple in your country and ask to talk to the Accounts Security Team : http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
When they've been reset you can then use the steps half-way down this page to add/change rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312 . Or you could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570

  • Apple Configurator assistance - where to start?

We deploy iPads on a slow but regular basis to client's to use as home automation controllers in their homes.  There are 1-4 apps needed so we lock everything else out, genreally without Guided Access.  I have very specific thoughts on what I hope Apple Configurator can do for us but I have a lot of questions.  Where's the best place to start?

  • Apple Configurator Unable to supervise error 33004?

During one of my school organization's monthly iPad car updates, using Apple Configurator, a number of them kick back this error message.
Current version is 1.4.3 and during this update we have been trying to get the iPads up to iOS 8.0.2. I have mentioned an update may be in order, but there was uncertainty, based on Apple Configurator habits of eating codes and early bugs. Google has been unable to provide a match to the error, which prompted this discussion. From what I know, these iPads should not be in MDM at this time, as they were removed this morning. I guess this is a two-fold question of has anyone else experienced this issues, and has there been a solution to the problem.

I am having this same issue as well and I cannot find anything on the internet in regards to this issue besides this one post. I have tried restoring the iPad many different ways including a factory reset. I have made sure it is connected to the correct iTunes and I still get this error. Has anyone else had better luck with this problem? Or has anyone had this problem and had to go to apple to get it fixed? Thank you for all your help a head of time.
    Regards,
    Zah

  • How can I reduce the amount of user prompts for Email setup in Apple Configurator?

I am working on deploying profiles via Apple's new Apple Configurator which allows me to install apps and settings exactly how I want them. My question pertains to the email setup where anything left blank in the payload gets prompted on the device for user input. Is there anyway to have the user only enter in their user name and password once and use that for the SMTP outgoing settings as well? I'd like to reduce the user interaction to a minimal.Currently they enter in their full name, email address, user name for incoming, password for incoming, and then user name AGAIN for outgoing (I checked the box for 'Outgoing password same as incoming'). Is there anyway to retain the username and avoid having the user enter it in twice?
If not, I can make do with how it is, but was rather curious if this is possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll try this again starting it as new, but when I restored it before (after deleting all the apps and music off it) it didn't help.  Thanks for the suggestion!

  • HT6160 What ports are used for Apple Configurator to function with IPads?

Need to know what ports need to be allowed for Apple Configurator to function.

Apple Configurator runs locally on an OS X computer. It requires a USB connection. So no ports required for connecting Configurator to iPads.
However, there are some ports that need to be opened for iPads to work with Apple's server if you are behind a firewall. Here is a list of known TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6175?viewlocale=en_US
To use iPads behind a firewall (Configurator or not), you'll want to definitely open 5223 for Apple Push Notification and the standard ports for HTTP/HTTPS (80 and 443). If you're using an MDM, you will likely need to open 2195 and 2196 as well.  If you still have issues port watch and see what an iPad does when trying to get to the store.
    Hope this answers your question!
