Apple configurator to disable iMessages

Hi,
We are a financial firm and we are planning to purchase around 500 iPhones for corporate users (employees). But we are wondering how we will disable the iMessages on iPhone devices.
We contacted MobileIron and Airwatch and they suggested that the devices have to be tethered to turn on the supervisoin mode in order to disable the iMessages.
My question is, can we use Apple Configurator to disable iMessages without tethering the devices. Or is there any other MDM which provides this feature?
Thanks
Sali

Apple Configurator has to connect physically to the device you wish to supervise or configure
you can also use it to enrol your devices in your MDM which greatly speeds up the enrolment process
You should also have a look at DEP if you're in a country that supports DEP, along with VPP
Be careful with find my iPhone, if you let users setup find my iPhone you could find yourself locked out of the devices and unable to do anything with the devices due to iOS 7's activation lock

  • Is there a way to hide or disable settings in Apple configurator

Is there a way to hide or disable settings in Apple configurator because the students are resetting them.

Sorry but no, there is at present no way to hide or disable the Settings app, nor any of the settings within that app not included in the Restrictions. Schools at this time basically just have to get used to the idea that you have to restore the iPads from time to time, or use one of the MDM solutions that allow you to push out settings remotely.

  • How to disable iMessage for an old Apple ID which is only used for AppStore?

How to disable iMessage for an old Apple ID which is only used for AppStore?
I used my old Apple ID for iMessage and AppStore Apps. Now I'm using my iCloud Account (second Apple ID) on my Mac as iCloud and iMessage Account.
New Apple ID - iCloud & iMessage (**** thing that I can't use my okd Apple ID for iMessage and another for iCloud) on new Mac
Old Apple ID - AppStore, iMessage days ago
So now how to disable the iMessage function for my old Apple ID which isn't used anymore?
    Thank you!

Yeah the problem is that I want to be reachable by:
    *new apple id
    *mobile number
    Earlier:
    *old apple id
    *mobile number
Problem - if I set in Settings => Messages => Receive at:
    *new apple id
    *mobile number
Others still can see my old apple id as "iMessage" although it isn't used a iMessage anymore. So how to disbale iMessage function for that?

  • Resetting Disabled iPads with Apple Configurator...

I'm having an issue trying to get iPads reset via Apple Configurator that have been disabled because the student has forgotten their passcode. Apple Configurator just says I need to unlock the iPad before I can reset it. What do I need to do as I work around? I have 5-10 iPads having this same issue.

Have they logged into an iTunes account, or an iCloud account? If they have logged into an iCloud account, there is nothing you can do personally, you'd need to contact Apple.
Here is some information I found previously about calling Apple and removing Activation Lock from an iPad
"Streamlined email process for removing activation lock
AppleCare has announced a new process to assist institutions with returned devices which may be activated locked.  For customers who experience this for the first time please call AppleCare at 800-800-2775 so that the process and needed documentation can be explained.  After the initial call customers can email with the required documentation for all Activation Lock Removal requests."

  • Disable iOS Update when preparing devices from backup on Apple Configurator 1.7

    Hi,
I am preparing a large number of iPads and I have been using Apple Configurator for a long time now. Since Apple Configurator 1.7 i am encountering one particular issue.
But with this new version I am having some problem with the Update iOS feature...
In previous versions, when I would prepare iPads by restoring it from a single back-up, I could disable the Update iOS. As you can see in the following screenshots, when preparing an unsupervised iPad, I can choose Never Update Device, this happens when I do not restore a backup.
But when I restore a back up, I can no longer have the option to Never Update the Device...
How can I restore a backup to an ipad without updating an iPad to the latest iOS version?

I am looking for same functionality --Never update iOS-- but can't make it work in the Configurator.
I tried with a custom iOS selected & supervision switched on  in the Prepare tab.
then in the Supervise tab "never update iOS" is available, and I applied that.
But starting the Ipad after the Configurator wizard makes it possible for the user to do a software update.
    Bummer !
Did you manage to solve this?

  • Disable downloading of latest ios - Apple Configurator

Is there a way to stop Apple Configurator downlaoding the latest iOS.  Can I download it once and point it to that file to save bandwidth?
    Thank you for your help

Maybe instead of being so annoyed/angry you should try basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide which is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).
All replacement iPhones come with a 90 day warranty or the remainder of the factory warranty on the original device, whichever is longer.
If the device is out of warranty then the user is required to pay the out of warranty replacement cost no matter what the issue is.
iOS 6.0.2 addresses issues specific to the iPhone5 and iPad mini.  Releasing it for other models would have absolutely no affect on those other devices.

  • Apple configurator + wireless management

Can I manage an Apple Configurator ipad cart of 32 ipads wirelessly using Apple server?

    Hi Simon,
A device must be Supervised in order to take advantage of all of the restrictions available to MDMs. To the best of my knowledge, Apple Configurator is the only tool that can "Supervise" a device. Once Supervised, then an MDM like Profile Manager can take advantage of all the restrictions and settings available for wireless management.
(from page 19 of the iOS 6 Education Deployment Guide)
Additional settings and restrictions are available to Supervised devices running iOS 6 or later. Once a device is Supervised these restrictions can be configured via configuration profiles that are delivered via Apple Configurator, MDM or manual download. These restrictions include:
Single App Mode - Locks user into a single, specified application. If powered down, the specified application will launch at boot. Consider using MDM to enable and disable this setting for dynamic control.
Global Network Proxy for HTTP - Routes most all device web traffic through a specified proxy server or setting. This setting is applied across all Wi-Fi SSIDs and cellular networks. Install this setting via Apple Configurator in a non-removable profile for strongest enforcement. Consider using a PAC file for greater flexibility with this setting.
Allow Removing Apps - Disabling prevents users from removing apps from the home screen.
Allow Use of Game Center - Disabling removes Game Center icon from the home screen. Use this setting in conjunction with disabling both Allow multiplayer gaming and Allow adding Game Center friends to completely disable Game Center on supervised devices.
Allow iMessage - Disabling removes Messages icon from the home screen.
Allow iBookstore - Disabling prevents access to the iBookstore while allowing use of the iBooks app for reading books and PDFs.
Allow iBookstore Sexually Explicit Content - Allow prevents access to adult content from the iBookstore.
Allow Configuration Profiles Installation - Disabling prevents users from manually installing configuration profiles directly on the device, which includes enrolling in an MDM server.
Is there another way to "Supervise" a device without Apple Configurator?
    ~Joe

  • How can I disable iMessages from going to my iMac?

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion. Since then, iMessages won't be delivered to my iPhone. They always get delivered to my iMac. This is especially annoying because I'm not home most of the day and texting is a primary means of communications, particularly with my better half.
I have quit Messages on my desktop, but iMessages still get delivered to Messages on the desktop. I took my desktop offline (no Internet connectivity), and iMessages just get queued in the cloud somewhere until I get home and bring my desktop online again. Nothing but regular text messages go to my iPhone. I have even disabled my Apple account in Messages on the desktop, but iMessages are still being delivered there. I never had this problem prior to Mountain Lion.
My better half, also with an iMac and iPhone, doesn't have any of these problems. I have verified that all the settings are the same between his and my desktops and iPhones. But I still have the problem. I don't use Messages on my dekstop and have no interest in receiving messages there.
Is there a way that I can disable iMessages from going to my desktop or otherwise limit iMessages to only my iPhone? Please help!

OK, problem solved. I think the issue is that I was a .mac account holder turned MobileMe turned iCloud (and still getting screwed over apparently). My Apple ID is @mac.com, but my email address is @me.com when Apple forced us all over. Messages on my desktop was set up with my mac.com Apple ID, while Messages on my phone was set up with my me.com email address. I went into appleid.apple.com and merged my primary email address and Apple ID to the mac.com address. I logged out of Messages on both the desktop and phone, logged back in with my Apple ID, and then had to delete the conversations from both my and my other half's iPhones.
Interestingly, it took about five minutes for both phones to delete the conversations, and the phones were completely unresponsive during this time. After that, I sent a text (iMessage) from my other half's phone to mine, and voila! It works. Apparently @mac.com does not equal @me.com... Apple sees them separately. What a nightmare, but I'm glad it's working now.

how can i disable imessage from automatically starting up when i turn on macbook air? i dont know my imessages to pop up on my laptop when it turns on. But i dont want to disable imessage totally on my macbook.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First of all, check that Messages is closed when you turn off your MacBook. This is so important because, by default, OS X will reopen all opened apps the next time you start your Mac.
Apart from that, when you go to  > Shut Down, or  > Restart, in the window you see to restart or turn off your MacBook, unmark "Reopen windows when logging back in". This will avoid that your Mac opens all opened apps the next time you start the MacBook, so Messages won't start automatically at startup

If you do not want to receive your text messages on your Mac, open Messages, go to Messages menu (in the menu bar) > Preferences > Accounts, choose your iMessage account and untick your phone number or disable your account

  • How can I distribute the free version of Numbers, Keynote, and Pages using Apple Configurator

I am trying to use Apple Configurator to mamnge a set of classroom iPads.  I have figured out how to purchase apps via the VPP account and distribute them, but I can't figure out how to distribute the free versions of Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.  When I try downloading these apps on the Mac running Configurator, they show up as a paid version.  Currently, I have to disable the option in Configurator that removes non-mamanged apps and then install the apps manually on each iPad.  Does anyone have a better option than this.  My hope was to be able to completely manage the iPads by simply pugging them into the Mac.

The apps is not only for iPhone 5c and 5s. its for all apple products that are purchased with iOS 7. I don't believe if you already have the product then update it to iOS 7 that the apps will be free. I believe that you have to purchase the product on or after the 18th since iOS 7 will already be on the products.
Edit...All compatible iOS 7 products activated on or after September 1st, 2013 will recieve the iWork apps for free. So yes he/she will recieve the apps

  • App store icon gone missing/Web Content Filter - Apple Configurator

I am using Apple Configurator to manage the iPads at my school. I changed the settings on my school's profile, within Apple Configurator, so that the App store was not available. The App store icon disappeared and all was good. I decided to change the settings back, to allow the App store, saved the settings and refreshed a group of iPads. The App store icon is still missing and it doesn't appear that my new settings have been applied. I quit Configurator and tried again, but no success. I am running Configurator 1.5 and the ipads are running iOS 7.1.
Also, I have unchecked the "Allow use of You Tube" button because I want You Tube disabled, but Configurator still allows the use of You Tube through Safari. Is there any way to disable the use of You Tube without using the ridiculous "Web Content Filter", that when activated, limits adult content (good), which seems to include a lot of valuable educational sites (bad)? To me the only other option available seems to be to tick "Specific Websites Only" and spend the next year typing in all the possible sites that might have educational merit, ergo, my use of the word 'ridiculous'. Is there something I am missing?

Locate it in the Apps folder and drag it to the dock.

  • How to disable iMessage for a single contact?

Hello apple communites, I have a simple and hopefully simple to answer question..
I am curious as to how to disable iMessaging for a single contact.  My sister when she got her phone number originally had an iPhone, she has since gotten an android and kept the same phone number.  However I am running into issues with text messages to her, my phone still thinks she has an iPhone and continues to send every text as an iMessage, resulting in a failed message.  I can easily hit the "send again as a text message" option and the message/picture sends as normal.  I however find this a bit fustrating, and have tried everything I can think of to attempt to disable this.  However all the online tutorials I can find regarding disabling iMessage turns the feature off completly, I don't wish to do that.
I have attempted to completely delete, (including all existing all texts and call history), and then re-add the contact, but that does not work either, my iPhone still attempts to send messages to my sister as an iMessge. Any help, if any, would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Your sister needs to disable iMessage on her iPhone if the iPhone is still available if she hasn't already done so.
If she has, does she have iMessage enabled with the same Apple ID on another iOS device or on a Mac as was used to activate iMessage on her iPhone?

  • IOS 7.0.4 Messages not working, unable to disable iMessage

After upgrading to IOS 7.0.4, I am unable to send Messages from my iPad2. I have the same issue on my iPhone 5s but I was able to disable iMessages in Settings and it works in SMS mode. I tried to disable iMessage in Settings on my iPad 2 but each time I do it then prompts me for my Apple ID password everytime I launch Messages. When I enter my password it accepts it but it enables iMessage, which will not send a text, I get the "not delivered". Since I'm unable to disable iMessage as described above, I'm completely unable to send any text messages from my iPad. Luckily I do not get the same results on my 5s, it allows me to disable iMessage and does NOT prompt me for my Apple ID/password and therefore does NOT reenable iMessage.
I've tried closing Messages and power cycling my iPad2 but the same issue occurs.
Both devices are runing IOS 7.0.4.

Thanks for the replies from all. The first issue was that I don't have a cellular iPad (I forget) so of course I could not turn off iMessage as I did on my 5s.
The real issue was that when my Wife's 5s was upgraded from IOS 7.0.3 iMessage was disabled. This did not happen on my 5s or my Daughter's 5s so I didn't expect it.
So, check to make sure that iMessage is enabled after upgrading from 7.0.3 to 7.0.4.
    Thanks again!
