Apple Configurator- Waiting to Refresh iPads

After clicking Refresh on All Devices instead of just the one iPad I had hooked up to the time, the rest of the devices under Supervised Devices are waiting for connection.  I don't want any of those iPads refreshed when I hook them up.  Is there a way to cancel the refresh or waiting for connection that is happening?  I've restarted my computer, closed the app, and even updated the app, but it's still going on.
Apple Configurator 1.1 then updated to 1.1.2 when trying to cancel.
Thanks for any help!

Turn off in the Preferences, When a Supervised Device is Connected: Automatically Refresh. This is the first thing to make sure of before hooking them up at all. Or it WILL auto-refresh them.
I tested this on 3 carts of iPads, hooking up 30 at a time, and none of them auto-refreshed even though it said Waiting for Connection. I was able to select new apps that needed installed and install iOS 6 and none of the iPads lost their data or settings(Wifi settings, DNS, and Restrictions). The one thing to ABSOLUTELY check before you click Apply is to make sure you do not restore a back up or change the iPads name. Restoring a backup that says Multiple or a previous stock "image" of the iPad will erase certain settings and all saved data. There's an option for Don't Restore Backup.  The first time I hooked them up the Backup setting was set to Multiple. Very bad things would've happened if I hadn't noticed that.
I hope this helps alleviate any problems you others are having. I kinda answered my own question but thanks for the interest.
We have an extra iPad for IT testing and I was able to test before I plugged in a cart. I suggest you do the same if possible.
EDIT:  I would like to add these were all Supervised Devices. I have no idea the difference in what would happen if they hadn't been.

  • Apple Configurator "Waiting to authorize apps"

Since the launch of iOS 8 and Configurator 1.6 we are having an issue when refreshing our iPads using Apple Configurator. The devices are being refreshed properly without issue, (erasing the iPad, checking for OS updates, etc) but then when it gets to the stage "Waiting to authorize apps" it waits and waits. I have tried all kinds of things, three different Internet connections, with and without proxy use, and also, iTunes is authorized on that machine.
It used to work fine. The only changes are Apple Configurator 1.6 and iOS 8 releases.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Andrew
I am also having the same issue. It's taking forever but the only fix is to reboot the iPads before using configurator.
I have also been on some occasions found that signing out of iTunes and the App store works forcing configurator to prompt you for the iTunes account.
I have managed to get 10 done this evening by doing the following with each batch :
    - Sign in and out of iTunes, Mac Store then Re Booting the mac
    - Reboot all iPads before hooking up to configurator
    - Then selecting my backup and any VPP apps needed.
    - Click Apply
Have sent an email over to Apple VPP but as I have found being in the UK the support is terrible.
Fingers crossed they get this working as I have many other sites I wish to update.
    Good Luck

  • Apple Configurator Could not refresh the ios update catalog

I tried to open up apple configurator today and it's giving me an arror saying "Could not refresh the iOS update catalog. The store's response could not be parsed." I have no idea how to even start troubleshooting this. any tips?

This is an annoying problem. I have phones and pads that I have to release for the Corporate world. I thought macs/apple were supposed to be perfect .
Any Fixes or responses to this as a potential iTunes problem.
Is this an iTunes to server conn problem or would this be a problem with the software to iTunes programming?

  • HT6160 What ports are used for Apple Configurator to function with IPads?

Need to know what ports need to be allowed for Apple Configurator to function.

Apple Configurator runs locally on an OS X computer. It requires a USB connection. So no ports required for connecting Configurator to iPads.
However, there are some ports that need to be opened for iPads to work with Apple's server if you are behind a firewall. Here is a list of known TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6175?viewlocale=en_US
To use iPads behind a firewall (Configurator or not), you'll want to definitely open 5223 for Apple Push Notification and the standard ports for HTTP/HTTPS (80 and 443). If you're using an MDM, you will likely need to open 2195 and 2196 as well.  If you still have issues port watch and see what an iPad does when trying to get to the store.
    Hope this answers your question!

  • Apple Configurator failing to activate iPad(3)

    Hi all
I'm having a problem with Apple Configurator and Preparing devices - Specifically an iPad 3rd Gen.
Apple Configurator sees the iPad fine but when I start the Preparation phase it fails at 'Activation failed'.
When I hover over the yellow warning triangle I see:
'Unable to activate (Activation store bag request could not be obtained). Try again later.'
Looking in the console, I see:
02/04/2012 17:38:04.300 [0x0-0x4a04a].com.apple.configurator: ERROR - 1398185ms Apply policy of UDID:*REMOVED_BY_ME* failed: Error Domain=com.apple.mdk.error Code=5 "Unable to activate (Activation storebag request could not be obtained). I have no idea what is going on!
    So far I have tried:
    - Activating the iPad manually through wi-fi and iTunes
    - Downloading the iOS IPSW file and using that as the OS to install
    - Enabling and disabling Supervision
    - Creating a profile to be applied
All of the above hasn't fixed this so now I'm a bit stumped!
I'm using a MacBook running OS X Lion 10.7.3 and everything is up to date as far as System Updates go.
If anyone can help that would be great, I'm supposed to be demo'ing this tomorrow!
    Thanks in advance
    - D

I believe this is caused by an issue with your internet connection (i.e. firewall, proxy, web filtering). I had the same issue on my Mac Mini.
I think it need to have communication with the Apple servers to ensure it can get the payload information when Supervision is on.

  • Apple Configurator not restoring new iPad 2 with backup

I've been using Apple Configurator to restore new, out-of-the-box iPads with a back up image in order to skip the registration process and bind them to Profile Manager. Now that iPads are coming with OS 6, it seems that it's causeing the iPads to fail restore and I have to set the iOS setting to Latest (used to be "No Change").
I've remade back ups, updated to Apple Configurator 1.2.1, and taken out the profiles, but it seems that no matter what I do I can't restore an iPad 2 with just a backup without installing the latest iOS. It takes 4-5 times longer for each iPad and really slows down my deployment.
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

What if you get the "iPhone couldn't restore due to corruption"? That might be because of a difference in the iOS or simple because the previous backup process wasn't fully successful. Then I might recommend you to take a look at the iPhone Backup Extractor. Also I would love to see you picking up such a subject, how we can deal with corrupt backups. Cheers!

  • Apple Configurator: Hundreds of Individualized iPads?

The Apple Configurator page assures that "Apple Configurator can also be used to personalize devices with data and documents for specific users."
I can import apps from the Volume Purchasing Program into Apple Configurator and sync them to new devices. But can I personalize each iPad so that only apps I select get synced onto each device, in a process that is streamlined and tollerable? For example, within the Apple Configurator interface, will I see a list of all my available apps and be able to select each individual app I want synced onto my new device?
Also, when I use the Apple Configurator, will I bypass the whole having to use redemption codes generated by the VPP, in that Apple Configurator will internally monitor how many appls I have remaining and not require me to type in the codes?
    Thank you for your help.

Configurator will allocate the codes automatically - no typing required.  When you prepare the devices in Configurator you can select the apps to install.  You can set up device groups. see http://krypted.com/iphone/managing-ios-devices-with-apple-configurator/

  • Apple Configurator Connection Issues with iPad 2s

I work at a public library that checks out iPad 2s. We have ten of them and use Apple Configurator 1.2.1 to keep them all on the same page. For some reason, though, we're now having some trouble with it.
All ten iPads lose their connection after being put into the Supervisor Mode. Sometimes the error is "internet error" and sometimes it's that the apps won't install. We've scaled back on the apps to the ones that are known good.
We're using iOS 6.1.2. Any advice would be appreciated.

Have you tried a factory reset of the homehub by pressing a pin into the recess button on the rear for about 20 seconds. This can often help wireless connections. When the Homehub is resetting, "forget" the connection to the homehub on your ipad then restart the ipad and once it has restarted, remake the connection to the homehub.

  • Apple Configurator to turn on Location Services on Several iPads?

I use Apple Configurator to manage several iPads. How do I turn on Location Services on all my iPads? The option to this is not available on each iPad individually because of the restrictions I set using Configurator.
    Thanks,
    TDigs

General > Privacy > Location Services.
The User Guide is available at http://support.apple.com/manuals/ or downloadable from iTunes as an iBook.

  • App store icon gone missing/Web Content Filter - Apple Configurator

I am using Apple Configurator to manage the iPads at my school. I changed the settings on my school's profile, within Apple Configurator, so that the App store was not available. The App store icon disappeared and all was good. I decided to change the settings back, to allow the App store, saved the settings and refreshed a group of iPads. The App store icon is still missing and it doesn't appear that my new settings have been applied. I quit Configurator and tried again, but no success. I am running Configurator 1.5 and the ipads are running iOS 7.1.
Also, I have unchecked the "Allow use of You Tube" button because I want You Tube disabled, but Configurator still allows the use of You Tube through Safari. Is there any way to disable the use of You Tube without using the ridiculous "Web Content Filter", that when activated, limits adult content (good), which seems to include a lot of valuable educational sites (bad)? To me the only other option available seems to be to tick "Specific Websites Only" and spend the next year typing in all the possible sites that might have educational merit, ergo, my use of the word 'ridiculous'. Is there something I am missing?

Locate it in the Apps folder and drag it to the dock.

  • Owncloud install from Apple Configurator using VPP codes?

    Hi
I am trying to install the Owncloud app onto a suite of iPads using Apple Configurator. I go through the normal process of downloading the app on my macbook and then uploading the codes into Apple Configurator.
The first iPad will install the app but subsequent attempts to install on other iPads results in an error 38 "unable to redeem code with itunes store" followed by an error 0 "Click ok to confirm that you are over 17". Presumably the first app installs because I clicked ok in itunes when downloading the app so it thinks the first code I redeem is ok.
There is nowhere on the iPad or iTunes to click "ok" with the failing installs.
I have set configurator to allow all apps in preferences (I tried choosing 17+ as well with the same result).
Is there any way to force Configurator to ignore age restrictions for app installs?
    Thanks

hope this helps...per Apple support doc
"If you do not already have a copy of the app on your computer, use the first redemption code in your spreadsheet to purchase it in iTunes. After using this code, re-download the spreadsheet and import it into Apple Configurator again. This allows Apple Configurator to automatically reassign this code to one of your devices."

I have not yet tried this but I have been told by Apple engineers that it works...

  • Transferring an Apple Configurator Profile

Hello, I am wondering if it is possible to transfer a Apple Configurator Profile from one iPad to another. For example, I have a wifi configuration file on one ipad, and need to get it to the other. Is there any way to transfer it without connecting it to the original apple configurator computer where the profile was made/put on the original device? Is it possible to use iTunes, iFunBox or my computers file explorer?
I am sorry if this is the wrong category. Moderator please put it in the right one if it is not. This is the most relevant category I could find.
    Thank You

Bump, I really need an answer.

  • Changing Apple ID in Apple Configurator

Last year I installed Apple Configurator to manage my school iPads (about 100).  When I started to configure and install apps, I registered and installed them all using my personal Apple ID that was attached to my iTunes account on the computer.  I did this with both free apps and payed apps using VPP codes.
My question is:  Can I unsupervised all the devices recollecting the VPP codes to be reused, remove my personal Apple ID from iTunes, and reinstall everything using newly created, generic Apple ID?  Or are those VPP codes now accosiated with the first apple ID?
Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Thanks nsdjoey.  I called apple and spoke with some people but they told me that the VPP codes could not be reused.  I tried to explain that I am not reusing the codes, (everything above, blah, blah, blah).  I knew there had to be a way so I tested this out with 1 iPad, and now moving forward with all carts.
I am using the same computer that I have tied to my Apple Configurator; it seems that the VPP codes are tied to the computer that is using Apple Configurator.
Hooked up iPad to docking station for Apple Configurator to see it.
Selected that device(s) and in AC Unsupervised the device.  AC then added the VPP code back to the computer (see this in number Identifying box in the app listing).
Opened to iTunes and took a screen shot of all apps downloaded from OLD Apple ID (OLD AI).  Then signed out of this account on iTunes and deleted (and moved to trash) all apps in iTunes library associated with OLD AI.
Created a NEW, generic, Apple ID (NEW AI), verified account, billing, etc.
Signed into iTunes using NEW AI.
Re-downloaded free apps that I needed for iPads.  This was a good time not to downloaded apps that were obsolete or not used.
Went back to Apple Configurator and removed apps from the the Supervision list.
Added the apps back to the Supervision list.  This went to the folder iTunes> iTunes music> Mobile Apps and added all the "new" apps associated with the NEW AI.
in Apple Configurator, I Prepared the new device to all the new apps and profiles.
As far as paid apps, I did have to purchase/ redeem 1 new app that i used for the VPP coded app.  I did this basically to associate the app to the NEW AI.
Now when I update all apps in Apple Configurator, I can enter the password for the NEW AI, and there have not been any issues pushing the VPP codes to the supervised devices.
So granted I did have to spend a few dollars on repurchased apps for the new account.  However $20 is much better than $1000!  And yes it did take some time to do all this, some of it being monotonous.  Moral of the story- whenever you sent up Apple devices for an institute, be sure to create a generic Institute e-mail and Apple ID.  Even if that is one for the entire school ([email protected]) or even separate departments ([email protected])!
I apologize if this list may be a bit confusing but if anyone wants to try this and needs more help, please let me know.  I will update if some problems arise from this switch.
    Thanks

  • Apple configurator management   Find my Iphone

    Hello,
I would like to ask for help. We have 40 iPads and this number is going to raise. I would like to track them with Find my Iphone app.
We're using Apple configurator to manage our iPads. I have one MASTER iPad which i prepare to be cloned to other iPads. I have installed Find my Iphone on MASTER iPad, but when I make a clone of MASTER it has to be set again ...
Well I think my question leads here : Is it possible to CLONE all settings ? Not just install apps ? It also happens with gmail. When I install gmail application and I log in there and mark stay logged in, when cloned it wants to be logged in again ...
Other problem that I am experiencing is that, when I apply some restriction profile, It can be easily removed from Control Panel/General/Profiles... Is there a way to lock these profiles so they can't be removed ?
    Any help will be appreciated

Edit: Other problem that I am experiencing is that, when I apply some restriction profile, It can be easily removed from Control Panel/General/Profiles... Is there a way to lock these profiles so they can't be removed ? (Solved for the self made Profiles, but there is one CERTIFICATE profile from configurator(other profiles use it for verification) which I can't set password for...)
Had to post it as reply ... forum says me this when I am trying to edit my own post ... : You are not allowed to create or update this content

  • Apple Configurator and Wifi

My school district recently purchased some iPads and I am in charge of getting them set up for student use. I am diving into Apple Configurator to get them started. I want them to connect to our enterprise wireless, which is Aruba Networks. We utilize the LDAP service on one of our Apple servers for clients to authenticate and use EAP-GTC protocol. I am able to, and always have been to, select the wireless network in system preferences, type in my credentials to authenticate, then am prompted to accept the certificate and wha la, I'm on, no problem.
I have made a profile with in Apple Configurator to configure the iPads to join the wireless using all the same credentials I use to manually set it up. I have also added the certificate for the network to the profile. After running the workflow in Apple Configurator, I check the iPad and it is not connected to the wireless, even though I do have "Auto Join" selected in the profile. However, if I go into system preferences and select the network, I am not prompted for my credentials but I am prompted to accept the certificate, then I am online.
Now one might think that is good enough and if I were distributing these to teachers I would probably tell them to do just that but with students, I don't want them messing around or even know that the system preferences app exists. So I guess my questions is, why do I still have to accept the certificate before it will join the network?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If others stumble on this keep in mind that wireless configurations vary greatly across organizations so guidance on proper configuration varies greatly across setups. The best thing to do is connect to your network with an unmanaged device, log every action from network name to security type to authentication certificates, etc. Every touch point is a setting in your MDM or Configurator you will need to set up.
