Apple Configurator with 12 iPads

Hi I have 12 ipads in my department. I have 3 iTunes accounts which are assigned to the iPads - basically 4 to each account. Can I use Apple configurator with several different iTunes accounts to manage these iPads or should I keep it managed through iTunes??

I have the same issue I think.  Whenever I am trying to update or configure them they will all go to the iTunes symbol and I have to take each one out of the charging station and manually configure them with my MacBook.  Other times it just wiped them clean and then I just have to load the profile.  It is hit or miss.  When it works...it works great...when it doesn't....well it just doesn't.  I was told by our tech department that it should have an update coming this summer.

I am trying to use apple configurator with ipads. I have been successful with preparing and supervising all ipads but one. When preparing it in configurator, I receive an error that it is refreshed but with an error. Under supervise, I am not able to add apps. I have erased all content to start over but this does not work either

Are you trying to restore a backup, or just sync some apps? Do you have profiles installed on the device?
Have you plugged the ipad into iTunes, and did a fresh install? I'm assuming the device went through the prepare setup properly. You many have to unsupervise it first, then plug it into iTunes to wipe it completely.
I'd then do each step seperately. Prepare it, then install 1 app, if that works, try another app, then maybe a profile.

  • Apple Configurator with iPad Air

I am using Apple configurator 1.5 to deploy iPad 2 with 4G and without and iPad Airs with 4G.
I created backups of each model and I’m only having an issue with the iPad Airs. I get an  error “ unable to activate ”.  Apple configurator will update the devices to the newest OS and reset the iPads but it won’t apply any settings from the backup.
    Any help would be great.

Need to manage 500 Enterprise iPads
    Requirements;
    1) Trackable via Find my iOS device  (we have 500 iPads and with the 100 device limit per iCloud account for Find my iOS device limit we have 5+ iCloud accounts).
    2) Individually named iPads for locating and sending commands to wipe, lost mode, etc.. on map per Find my iOS device (we uniquely name them in Apple Configurator either by using the "sequensetially numbering feature", or by creating individual back ups (yes, 450) with the name specified in the image).
    3) Find my iOS device feature enabled in base Prepared or Supervised image (using one of our 5+ iCloud accounts) (image can be created during prepared stage, or in supervised stage) - tried both and have the same issue - which I am getting to...
    4) VPP codes for paid apps (all VPP codes purchased with generic account which is the Apple Admin account for VPP purchases). Apple Configurator is set up under a different/ unique Apple account (i.e. not VPP admin account) and not logged into iTunes for any purchases/ services).
    Issue: Can not do any following senarios;
    A)
         1) configure master iOS 7 iPad with iCloud account with Find my iOS feature enabled in Prepare stage (added during preparing stage)
         2) configure master iOS 7 iPad with iCloud account with Find my iOS feature enabled in Supervised stage (added after supervising, and then backing up that supervised and iOS Find my iOS device enabled)
    B) 1) Apply master image to any Supervised iPad (under senario step A) or senario step B)), including the (Supervised or/ Prepared iPad that was used to create the maset iOS 7 image
Result = fail with Apple generic code "4" ; This is obviously due to Find my iOS device feature enabled during image capture.
According to Apple (see Apple Config. Help) the 'Activation lock' (new feature in iOS 7) will not be enabled on a supervised device when an iCloud account with "Find my iDevice" is enabled. Their "help files" seem to imply after the device is Supervised, and a person (presumably and end user) adds thier own iCloud account with Find my iOS device enabled the activation lock is not enabled and erasing/ reconfiguring with Apple Configurator will not cause reimaging probhlems such as requiring the end user's credentials to reconfigure the device using Apple Configurator (i.e. you won't need the end user's credentials).
Needed: To be able to configure Supervised iPads with iCloud account (Enterprised owned iCloud account) configured on the basse image, which has Find my iOS device enabled, and to be able to apply that base image to all Enterprise iPads without generic apple error code 4 issue.

    Hi all
I am trying to replicate these steps in my environment but I am having trouble getting an iCloud backup restored to a supervised device. Can someone clarify the steps? The parts I am unsure on are:
    1) Do you Prepare in Configurator with all the institution owned apps? Or do you install them after restoring the iCloud backup?
    2) After entering the personal AppleID to restore the iCloud backup, the setup wizard prompts for the Institution/Configurator AppleID, there is an option to 'Skip Now'. Do you enter in the password for the institution account? or do you skip that step?
    3) What exactly is on the screen in the 'mini setup assistant' after the restore when you Refresh with Configurator?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Apple Configurator and iPad Set issue

    Howdy Folks,
    I have a dilemma.
I work at a Business School and we have 30 ipads managed (supervised) by Apple Configurator via a Mac Book Pro.
I had (still have) paid apps on this class set.
Unbeknownst to me, I upgraded the Macbook Pro to Mavericks thinking that the upgrade would work. Unfortunately it didn't and I had to re-install Mountain Lion. I'm not going to upgrade to Mavericks due to a Safari bookmark sync issue with another set of 30 ipads not managed by Configurator.
I'm going back through my purchases on the apple volume purchases website and I've downloaded the spreadsheets again.
The apps all have worked fine except for Dictate & Send (Dictamus). After importing the spreadsheet, it only has 1 license available. When I attempt to plug in the supervised iPads, I get a message saying 'computer says no'. I'm assuming this is because they were associated to the Mac before I had to re-install the OS.
I have no backup or files from the previous OS install.
I'm also assuming that in order to get the iPads to talk to the new configursator, I'll have to wipe them and then re-associate them with the new configurator. That will also mean that i'll lose the apps on them including Dictate & Send.
My question is ' Can I recover those licenses on the iPads for Dictate & Send, or do I need to purchase another 30 copies?'
Any help you can provide would be appreciated,
    Regards,
    Frank.

You don't need seperate IDs.  When you log into icloud.com and use Find my iPhone, you'll be able to see a list of every single device associated with that ID.  Just click on the devices tab in the top left.  Here you can see I'm logged in with a list of many devices:

  • Apple configurator with ios 7.1

    Hi,
I realized for a client deployment 170 ipads Air in ios 7.04 and 7.06 no problem with appleconfigurator.
Since the arrival of the ios 7.1 the following difficulties arrived (even putting it all updates):
-impossible to avoid a startup screen
-impossible to attach automatically a wireless network
-impossible to install in automatic mode (after deployment) profiles configurations
Since the last update ios 7.1 I must be enroll all the ipads in 2 stages for completion, in addition to manipulations joining the wireless network, why? How to go back one step?

I've just seen this message for the first time and it's showing on 10 devices.
What I really love about Apple Configurator is the copious amount of context driven help offered to you.
"Unable to send ClearPasscode command to device.
    The device was disconnected.
Check the USB connection to the device."

  • How to remove Apple Configurator Profile - iPad

On my iPad a supervision profile has been installed using Apple Configurator. Is there a way to remove this profile without restoring.
When I tried syncing my iPad to my computer a message came up, notifying my that my 'iPad is supervised with another computer and cannot be used with this computer.'
I belive this has occurred because of this supervison profile and I can't seem to remove this profile.
I don't have access to both the Apple Configurator application that was used to create it and the computer that it is supervised with.
I have tried recovery mode and a few other basic ways that could remove this.
I need a way to remove this profile without removing all my data or accessing the Apple Configurator itself.
    Max.

Unfortunately, if you don't have access to the computer that the iPad was supervised with you won't be able to unsupervise it without resetting the device (and thus losing all of the apps and data).
The idea behind Supervising is that control lies with the person managing the devices (teacher, I.T. staff, etc), not the end user. In Supervision mode, the person managing the devices is "king" and has control of installing apps, configuration profiles, etc. When an iPad is initially Supervised, it is wiped clean of previous data, apps, and settings. This prevents a personal device from being supervised by another person without their knowledge. Once Supervised, it is no longer a "personal" device…it is managed. The same sort of thing happens when you unsupervise a supervised device…it deletes everything so that the manager is no longer "king" and the user regains all control by starting with a clean iPad without data, apps, or controlled settings.
You may want to try and manually back up as much as you can to services like Dropbox before resetting the device.
I know this is not the answer you want to hear, but I hope it helps understand why it is what it is. Good luck.

  • Apple configurator with iOS7

I'm having loads of problems with apple configurator since upgrading to iOS7. It hasn't reliably supervised or assigned ipads. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! I can't assign pupils to devices and lots of the VPP codes I have purchased don't work.
I have updated all the software I can.
Is anyone else having problems or can give any solutions!!

    Hi jenny142,
Unfortunately yes... many of us have been experiencing issues with iOS 7 and Apple Configurator 1.4. There are several other threads here discussing various issues. Hopefully some of the bugs will be fixed in a dot release of both iOS and AC.... hopefully soon!

  • Apple Configurator with two options - Shutdown, Restart

    Hello,
I work with ipdas/iphones everyday, using apple configurator wih 30 devices connected to mac is amazing thing, but shutdown or restart them is a BIG problem and takes too much time. Is it possible to add Shutdown & Restart options to apple configurator? This will be very hapleful for eveyone. One more thing before I will celebrate Happy Friday, is it possible to extract info like: serial number & IMEI  from devices to cvs file?
    Thank you.

Doesn't sound good if you've restore to factory from the diagnostics menus and are seeing this.
Have you unplugged from the main for a few mins and restarted.  Disconnect any ethernet cables if you have them.

  • Apple TV with iPad - for Business

I am trying to replace as much of my Win7 laptop as possible with my new iPad. My only struggle so far is with presentations. I have my projector (with an HDMI port) that I am thinking I could connect to an Apple TV; however, I am frequently presenting in locations that have either no Wi-Fi or a secured connection that I would not be allowed to access. Do I have to have a Wi-Fi connection in order to connect my iPad to Apple TV? If so, would I be able to use the "Personal Hotspot" from the iPad?

Fair question.  Apple tv is a great standalone device, and to me, it is a great accessory to the pad.
As a standalone, you get access to all the stuff contained in the atv ad pages.  I am assuming you already know about that.
As an adjunct to the pad, I have a great time playing movies from my kids and grand kids on the big screen.
Anything you want to stream from the pad, on a bigger screen.
And now, it does mirroring.  Good for letting others see what you see.

I am unable to make purchases from the Itunes store or Apps store with my new Ipad 2.  Requests verification of payment info. which is entered correctly, but an error that it is incorrect continues to appear.

Try making a new apple I.d
I had a similar problem and once I made a new I.d it accepted my debit card and I was able to go t iTunes an the apple store and buy things. The only problem is that you can't update any apps you have already installed on your iPad

  • Cannot verify Apple Mail with IPAD

I am trying to set up my business email for my Ipad using Apple Mail, In MobileMe it asks me to enter in my information email address and such to get Mail on my Ipad. Ipad then asks me to verify and go to my email and make sure I have an email in my Mail inbox from my Ipad. I never get this email, I have tried over and over to send and verify my email address for Apple Mail for my work/business email. What am I supposed to do? By the way, my work/business email does not run on Wi-Fi only on a hard-wired Ethernet (my whole building does). But I figured email is still email, you should be able to access it over the internet if you have the same program and same settings/ and configurations right? We use Mac at the office and I have Mac at home, but I still cant even access my email using Mail at home either on my Mac or Ipad. Yes, I have looked at the settings and configurations to see if something is correct. So, Please help me!

BT are always unable to help. Search the forum and you will find hundreds of examples of BT being 'unable' to help.

  • Can I prohibit students from setting a Passcode Lock in Apple Configurator with iOS 7?

I manage 120 iPads at a high school and am running into an issue with the iOS 7 update.  Students now have the ability to go into settings and set a Passcode Lock which will be a hassle once they realize this.  Does anyone know if Configurator has the ability to prohibit students from having the ability to set this?  They also have the ability to set restrictions codes but I'm assuming I'll have to go into every iPad and set this myself to cut that off before it becomes a problem.  I just can't find a way to do this for the screen lock code.

Sorry, but there still seems to be no way to block someone from setting a screenlock passcode.
    Regards.
