Apple configurator won't recognize all connected devices

I am trying to set up and use configurator on a macbook with a classroom cart of 30 ipads, they were previously managed through itunes but I'd like to wipe over them all with my profile/setup I have in configurator. I have all 30 devices connected via usb in the cart but configuator only detects 15. I have double checked that all the connections are properly in place. Am I doing something wrong or missing a step?

The solution is easier than you would think. I, too, had this problem - it took me three days to finally realize why. Configurator only recognized 12 out of the 30 iPads I had in my cart. I checked to make sure that all the white plugs were plugged in to the hub (these plugs can be pulled out easily, and if you never take out the trays to check you will never know that this has happened). It appeared that all the plugs were plugged in. I then re-connected the iPads, but still Configurator only recognized 12 iPads in the cart. At that point I checked the two power cords going in to the hubs - one of them was loose. I pushed the loose plug in tighter, connected my iPads, and BOOM! - Configurator recognized all of the iPads.
I am not sure why the cord going in to the hub became loose - the hub is in a location where nobody can mess with it. If you ever have this problem, check ALL the plugs to make sure one is not loose.

apple configurator didn't recognize my USB connected Apple TV. should it be a problem if no display connected? cause the plugs space of apple TV for connection is only enough with either micro-USB or HDMI.

Apple Configurator 1.4.2 is said to support Configuration Profiles for the Apple TV using the "Apple TV assistant" located in the "window" option.
However, I do believe you need to be on Mountain Lion or higher to perform and receive an update to 1.4.2, but I could be wrong.

  • Apple Configurator won't open.

I am teacher using a class set of iPads for the first time. I had hoped to use Apple Configurator to sync iPads and manage everything.
When I first tried, I got the message during the Prepare stage that the Apple ID wasn't authorized. I authorized the MacBook Pro OSX I am using to use the Apple ID I wanted so that worked. Then, I got the error message during the Supervise stage that it cannot install app. I never figured out which one after some trial and error.
But, NOW Apple Configurator won't open - it says the file might be corrupted, truncated, or in an unexpected format. How can I totally get rid of a file and start again?
I've tried moving to the trash, emptying the trash and then reinstalling. I've tried restarting my computer. I've tried using both of my iTunes accounts to get it from the App Store and every time I try to open it, the same error message comes up. Is there some temporary or other file that I need to get it out of in order to start new?
    Thanks for your help.

You can try completely deleting your configurator data folder. This should reset the app to a clean state, but you will lose all device and user data.
For Configurator 1.2 or later, delete the folder ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.configurator
For Configurator 1.1 or previous, delete the folder ~/Library/Application Support/com.apple.configurator.

  • Configurator 1.4 hangs at Connect Devices in Prepare screen

The devices show up in the "Supervise screen" as connected. And they show up in Itunes. But when I go to the "Prepare screen" and hit the prepare button they just hang at "Connect Devices".  Have tried through the cart (Bretford) and plugging in individually.
I have wiped all of them and started again.  Same results.
    Running 11.1 Itunes. 10.8.5 OSX. Configurator 1.4

I had a reply to my topic from NYLink with the advice to check the Supervise pane and unsupervise the devices so that you can prepare them again.
What happened in my case was half of my iPads needed a full restore to get iOS7.02 installed - Configurator still had them listed as being supervised, but would not apply any apps to them, and they would not show up in the Prepare pane. So they needed to be unsupervised first before anything else could be done to them.
What I did: I plugged in a single iPad at a time, so that there was no confusion as to which device was which in Configurator - for me, Configurator had decided that all my devices were iPad02. Once the iPad was connected, I was able to go to the Devices menu at the top, and select Unsupervise from the bottom of the menu. After going through one by one, all my devices are now visible from the Prepare pane again, and once prepare was completed they were visible in the Supervise pane again.
    Good luck!

No problem, it is still much the same advice but you'll need to use third party tools to extract the data.

I have turned on home shareing on both imac & apple tv but apple tv won't recognize my imac. the display just says turn on home shareing.
I managed to get to work once after I downloaded the latest version. It picks up the network ok, movies and music work fine.

if firewall in router or on the computer is not letting the shared lib be avaible then you need to change that

  • Apple configurator won't connect to ipads

hello,  i am trying to set up all my companys' ipads in supervised mode.  i tested on a mac book pro (recent model, less then 6 months old) running 10.82 and the devices took fine.  i have since reformatted them back to clean OS with iOS 6 and have purchased a new mac mini running 10.82.  now, when i plug any ipad (a 2 or a 3) directly into the mini (no usb hub), using the original apple cable i get an "unrecognized device" error.  what gives?  it worked fine on the MBP, but not on a brand new mini?  i have even tried brand new ipads out of the box and then brand new ipads with just the iOS 6 update.  nothing is working.  also, i am using the latest version of Apple configurator (downloaded it fresh today).  thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Bryan,
If you have issues streaming music from your computer through your Apple TV from iTunes, you will want to make sure the Home Sharing is set up correctly. Use the steps in this article -

  • G4 won't recognize a FireWire device

G4 (OS9.2.2, 450MHz, 1.5GB ram) won't recognize any firewire 400 device.  No changes made; it just stopped working.  Tried new cable, other devices, other firewire port.  Devices work on iMac, and prior to this problem worked for years on the G4.  I want to use a cd/dvd burner and external hard drive, which have always worked fine on this G4.  Is there an internal card or something that runs the two firewire 400 ports that can go bad?

You can try resetting the FireWire ports by following this procedure, as described in an Apple Tech Document:
shut down and disconnect all external drives and peripherals ; make sure nothing is connected to the FireWire ports
use Apple Disk Utility to repair permissions on your internal boot drive
shut down and disconnect the AC power from the computer as well as the drives; if laptop, also remove battery
let sit unpowered and unconnected for 15 minutes
reconnect AC power to only the computer (battery too if laptop)
    restart computer
verify that FireWire ports are visible within Apple System Profiler
reconnect FireWire drive (only one); refresh window within Apple System Profiler to rescan the FireWire bus; confirm that drive is visible
confirm drive is OK by using Apple Disk Utility and apply First Aid
repeat for other drives, one at a time
The FireWire controller chip is soldered to the motherboard, so that isn't user-serviceable.  If you're can't restore normal operation of the ports, you can always install a FireWire PCI card.

  • Apple keyboard won't pair with any devices

I just cleaned my niece's apple wireless keyboard using the mister clean magic eraser. I did not removed the batteries in doing so. What happened was the keyboard did not interact properly with the mac that it was connected to. Now I've tried replacing the battery with a new one. I tried pairing this keyboard to my iPad air and macbook pro. It won't pair with both devices. When I tried putting in the numbers that the computer gives me there's a delayed response. Is they keyboard broke. Apple should've placed a reset button on the keyboard. I don't know what to do.

i just used the mr. clean magic eraser. it's a sponge that you use to wipe out the dirt. it did a good. I just didn't remove the batteries or the KB was on at that time so the LED indicator was blinking. When I was done cleaning my niece notice that it wouldn't funciton properly. I tried pairing it again. I followed that step were you had to hold the power button for 6 seconds to reset it. It still did not pair. I tried pairing it to my mac and ipad air. It won't pair at all. Whenever I type in the code to pair it. It would stop pairing at the first number that I typed. So I don't know what to do next. Apple should've placed a small reset button to reset the whole KB.

  • IPad 2 to Apple TV: Cannot Play Movie - The Connected Device is not authorized to play protected movies.

I am getting the 'Connected Device is not authorized to play protected movies' message.
    Here is my setup:
From the iPad 2 I used iTunes to Rent a movie - Safe House in SD.
I then used Airplay Mirroring to send the movie to my Apple TV.
The Apple TV is connected to a Vizio V0370M HDTV.
According to Vizio all of the HDMI ports have HDCP.
When the movie starts I get this error message on the iPad.
I have used this approach in the past with success.
I rented a couple of episodes of HBO's True Blood and they played just fine on the Vizio through Apple TV.
I believe some were in HD and some SD.
Using the iPad with Airplay Mirroring is a very nice way to send content to the HDTV.
I was hoping I'd be able to do this for anything that is on the iPad.
Is there something wrong with my configuration? Or what I'm trying to do?
Thanks for any help or advice!

I had exact same problem and I have found a way to get round out!!!! Easy!
So the reason it doesn't allow it to play is for security to stop piracy etc.
Plug in the cable and VGA and aux cable and get everything set up so you are looking at the home screen.
    1) select Videos
    2) selected the film you want to watch
    3) click the little play button
    4) it will then come up with the message saying it can't play protected films blah blah blah
    5) WITHOUT clicking ok double tap the home button to bring up the multitasking bar and swipe left to reveal the control panel
    6) hold fast forward for a second or two and the movie with continue to play!
Stay in the multi tasking bar with the control panel, The message will stay there but don't worry. Kick back and enjoy your iPad movie on the big screen:)
I'm sure your saying thanks:) it was my pleasure realising I've outsmarted apples little security protection thing lol

  • Itunes won't recognize Iphone but device still charges

Today, I had my Iphone 5c replaced after having issues with the software on my previous iphone 5c. I'm trying to put the data that was on my previous phone back onto my new replacement but Itunes won't recognize my device. I have tried getting the data back on my phone using Icloud but the backup data that is for my Iphone can't be selected as the backup data requires software that is ios 7.1 or later (or something like that). I have selected the option of "set up as new iphone" and just downloaded the software update but I don't know how to get back to the screen that shows the icloud backups.
I have also tried all the recommended things for when the device cannot be detected with itunes (ex. reinstalling itunes, restarting apple mobile device support< ect.)
If you can help with how I can get my itunes to recognize my iphone or how i can set up with icloud after selecting "set up as new iphone" that would be great

Set the phone up as a new phone. Then update the iOS to 7.1. After the update is complete restore your phone from your backup.

  • Mac Pro won't recognize ethernet connection

My Mac Pro won't recognize the Ethernet cable when it's plugged in. I know the cable and connection are good because my MacBook Pro recognizes it with no problem. I've had it for around a year, but have always used the airport to connect to the internet. It has two Ethernet ports on the back and I've tried both. Is there anything I need to do to configure the NIC card?
    Thanks in advance!
    Ryan

No, but you do need to configure the Ethernet port in Network preferences. Open Network preferences and select the Ethernet port. Click on the Advanced button then on the TCP/IP tab. Set the Configure IPv4 drop down menu to DHCP. Set the Configure IPv6 drop down menu to Off. Click on the Apply button. If all is well you should see a valid IP address in the network settings for the port. If you see an IP address starting with 169., then it means your Ethernet port is not getting an IP address from your router. You should have an Ethernet cable connected from the Ethernet port on the computer to one of the LAN ports on your router.

  • How do I remove all connected devices from my itunes account?

I recently let a friend use my itunes account to download an app on their 3rd gen ipod touch. I have already changed my password and email address associated with my itunes account. Their ipod was never synced to my computer, so it does not come up when I got into my itunes account and try to manage all the devices associated with it. I've already used my deauthorize all button once before. My ultimate goal is to have the app disappear on their ipod touch, is there anyway to do that? Was just changing my email address and password enough to get it off of their ipod touch?

Changing the access list associated with your account won't delete content off his iPod.
Changing the account prevents him from downloading new content under your account, including updates to existing applications, but it won't remove currently-installed applications. That will only happen when the device is connected to iTunes and a manual sync is performed.

  • Apple programs will not recognize Internet connection after Tiger upgrade

In January, I posted the question below. I wanted to update it, but this site has archived it and will not allow responses. In the hope that I may help someone else, I am repeating my question, now that I have the answer.
    ===============================================
    ORIGINAL PROBLEM
Last week, I upgraded from 10.3.9 to Tiger. Ever since then, I have had trouble using Apple's programs that require internet usage: Safari, iTunes, Software Update, etc. All of these programs think I am not connected to the Internet. But I am; I can use Netscape, Internet Explorer, and other non-Apple programs on the web.
Furthermore, it's not consistent. Sometimes Safari will recognize the connection. I'll be using Safari, looking up websites, when suddenly it will quit connecting, giving me the message, "Cannot connect to the server," no matter what server it is, even apple.com (so I have to use Netscape to access my .Mac and this Support screen).
    How can I resolve this?
    ==============================================
The problem was that my Earthlink Access software was setting a proxy on my connection. Netscape & Firefox worked because they ignore any proxies; the Apple programs (plus Shiira and Internet Explorer) didn't connect because they use the proxies.
Why did it sometimes work? Well, if I first used Safari to go to a secure website of my bank, somehow that opened up the connection and then I could continue to use the Internet and Internet based programs like iTunes and widgets. However, if I tried to use an Internet-based program before going to the secure site, then it wouldn't work.
After months of phone calls and e-mails and sending data packets and all such stuff with Apple Care, they finally stumbled upon this answer: Uncheck the proxy box. And that did it. At first I had to uncheck it every time I started up the computer, but now it stays unchecked and I can use my Apple programs with no trouble.
I just wanted to share this with you in case you also had trouble with Internet connections after upgrading to Tiger, because I did see several other people had this same trouble.
Movable flat-screen iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1.25Ghz processor, 256 MB memory (DDR SDRAM)

For the record, could you state each Proxy box you ended up unchecking please? I'll attempt to submit a user tip with credit to you for finding this solution.

  • My usb slot won't recognize a usb device

    I have 2 usb slots.
Plugged in a flash drive and only 1 of the slots recognizes the flash drive.  I don't see the flash drive either on my desktop or in Finder when plugged in to the 2nd of the two slots.
    I've done all recent updates.
    Have OSX 10.8.5
I tested 3 sandisk flash drives.  The slot closer to the monitor won't recognize any of the drives.
I logged out and logged in as another user and again, slot closest to monitor won't recognize any of the flash drives.
I also tested the 3 flash drives on another macbook I have and both slots recognized the flash drives.
Any rec's or ideas to help?
    Thanks

I plugged in my iPhone5 and nothing, no connection on this one usb slot.  Connecting via the other slot a-okay though.
Unfortunately my applecare plan expired a week ago!  Hah, how's that for timing!
I have appt to go in to store.
    Thanks
