Apple confirms it's looking into C2D MacBook wireless issues

Apple says it is indeed looking to problems with the latest MacBooks and their Wi-Fi issues.
http://blogs.chron.com/techblog/archives/2007/01/updatedthe_macbooks_weakwifi.html

Well - I thought I had problems - I got this machine a few days before I had to go away for 10 days early December.
I still had the old CD MacBook - so just used the Migration Assistant to get everything over. The new Machine was 10.4.8 and my old one was 10.4.7
On the old machine the only time I had WiFi problems was when our Router [ linksys WRT54G ] was playing up and we kept dropping connection - and at the same time we also had our Cable Modem going belly up too . Once they were sorted out - no WiFi hiccups at all.
Got the new C2D up and running - BUT it took me 7 attempts to get it online [ no no wireless security - long story and not relevant] Went to France - staying 1 night on the way with a mate with a Belkin Router. He operates wirelessly . Set up the C2D and saw no less than 11 Networks !! BUT could I get onto his ?? NOPE - no way no how - totally impossible . Even took off his security for me - still no hook up - gave up and used Ethernet.
Tried in France on a Network I knew there - saw plenty [ far more than I could see with the CD Machine] but no luck.
Returned home trying the Belkin again halfway home - no luck.
Got home - straight on - no hassle BUT Icon showed maximum of 3 bars and speeds were slow - but everything worked.
Suddenly - the machine is now just over 1 month old and 2 days ago my Airport Icon showed the full 4 bars and has remained at that - AND I'm now seeing speeds of 3.7 Meg [ on a 4 Meg cable line ]
I've done nothing at all - but I'm still asking questions.

  • MacBook wireless issue (ongoing) & DIY airport card replacement

    Hello,
With reference to the ongoing MacBook/OSX (10.5.3) Leopard intermittent wireless issues discussed in this forum has anybody gone ahead and taken matters into their own hands and purchased and installed a new Airport card for their MacBook from www.ifixit.com?
    Further details at: http://www.ifixit.com/MacBook-Parts/MacBook-Core-2-Duo-Santa-Rosa-Penryn-802-11n -Airport-Extreme-Card/IF186-062
If so, did it resolve your intermittent Airport issues?
It seems to me that when the MacBook is running on battery power only the Airport card does not realise that the MacBook has come out of sleep sometimes and therefore does not always function correctly. Maybe the Airport card does not receive sufficient power when the MacBook comes out of sleep mode whilst running on batteries only?
Typically when I run the MacBook connected to power the intermittent wireless problem does not occur.
This issue has been a recurring problem for me for 6 months now and unfortunately I have not seen Apple address this issue.
My MacBook is 6-months old and is a black MacBook using a 2.2GHz processor running Leopard OSX 10.5.3.
    Cheers,
    treaders

Visit Apple Store and replaced the Airport card.

  • Recent Macbook & wireless issues

Seems to be a lot of post in reference to connectivity to wireless, and macbooks.
I too have started having issues here lately with my macbook, and I thought I'd share what I found so far between the post and my own macbook.
    * Intel core duo, 2 Ghz
    * Wireless (radio) device does not seem to matter (same issues with 3rd party radio or airport. (APE[n])
    * Within a limited distance, (20ft) the macbook will seem to work fine, except for the occasional drop out to scan for wireless..., which should not be happing.
    * Anything outside of 20ft is a crap shoot. Even My neighbors unprotected wireless, which is a linksys, will do the same thing when it connects with the mac book.
None of my other wireless computers (iMacs) have the connectivity issue.
    * I'm still using 10.5.6, due too I hear there are some issue with the recent update of 10.5.7
    * using version 7.4.1 of APE
    * Using WEP instead of WPA, because WPA it does not work with GameBoy wireless
    * radio mode is b/g compatible
    * (strange issue) under wireless options in APE, it keeps switching country code from US to Puerto Rico after multiple resets of the country.
    * This has only started happening in the last 2 months, which somehow I suspect is upgrade related.
If you have similar readings in your macbook, post them here so we can track and narrow down the issues affecting these macbooks.
Grasping at straws..... Antenna issues? APE card issue?
    * oh yeah, I can't upgrade my card with the APE enabler, which according to this.....

I should be able too. Related somehow?

I have a MacBook and I'm having some troubles trying to connect to any network. The problem is exatly the same one posted above.
Yesterday I went to a friends house. He also got a MacBook. I put both notebooks side by side. He connected to 2 different networks and I couldn't connect to any one. I opened iStumbler in both computers too, and I found the problem: in my friend's macbook, the wireless signal is continuous, while in mine, the signal is intermittent. The orange bar appears, then suddenly disappears, appears again, disappears...
I'm thinking this is a hardware problem, but, before buying a new AirPort card, I'd rather be sure that's not a sorftware/driver issue.
I'm using 10.4.10, and saw some issues about wireless and this version, but the problem also appear when I boot in Windows XP. When I try to connect, the message "Waiting for network" shows up and nothing happen.
Last sunday I was able to connect to another friend connection. I tried to connect several times and it didn't work. Then I reboot the router and connected, but the connection was very slow for a 1mbps speed.

  • Macbook Pro (Late 2008) - Windows 7 64-bit, Bootcamp 3.1 - Wireless Issue

    Hi Everyone,
I have a Macbook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008) model with Snow Leopard and Windows 7 64-bit dual boot. I have done a search and cannot find any reference to this problem on my hardware.
I have had no issues in Windows 7 when using Bootcamp v3.0. In the last week I have upgraded to Bootcamp v3.1. (completed twice, rolled back in between to prove that the issues was related to the Apple Update)
After I update to v3.1, I have issues with my wireless network. The network cannot resolve the name for any internet address. I can connect to wireless networks (tried multiple networks), all the DHCP settings seem to be retrieved correctly (Gateway, DNS etc) and I can ping local and machines outside my network without an issue provided I use the IP address. (Skype works - which uses direct IPs rather than names I have found over time)
As soon as I use a name for a destination for Web traffic, Mail, pinging (any application), my Macbook Pro cannot resolve the address and just bombs out.
If I connect to a wired network, the machine works perfectly and name resolution on that interface works. If I rollback (using Windows 7 rollback capability) to before the v3.1 Bootcamp is installed, the wireless networking also works perfectly.
I noticed this in the support area at apple:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3196
But this refers to wireless issues in Bootcamp drivers prior to v3.1 and on 13 inch Macbook. Wonder if this is a similar issue or related?
Anyone else seen this or point me in the direction of a fix?
    Thanks,
    Thommo

I'm looking into running Windows 7 64bit on the exact same MBP you have, so I'm curious as to whether or not you've found a solution yet outside of the forums.
Do you think it might be that the bootcamp 3.1 update is only for Windows 7 32bit and not for the 64bit version?

  • What defects should I look out for on a new C2D MacBook?

    Hi all,
So, here's my Mac story. I've had macs for the past 4 years, I just like working on them when I have the option. When the new MacBook came out last Spring I immediately bought one, and then 3 returns laters, I got one that wasn't falling apart and was happy. Then the C2D came out, and I was antsy to upgrade. I know it was foolish but I talked myself into a MBP C2D. I got that, about 2 weeks ago and was very dissapointed in the display, grainy and all. So I talked to apple and they're taking it back. But here I am with no laptop again. SO I purchased a new C2D MacBook, and it arrives today.
So back to the question ... what defects with the new one should be on the look out for? It's difficult to figure out which MacBook people are talking about when they talk about their problems.
    Thanks for the help

To be honest, you shouldn't be looking for any defects. There were some problems with a small percentage of the original MacBooks which have since been resolved and should not appear on the new Core 2 models. Get your MacBook and enjoy it. If you discover something is not working the way you feel it should, address it then. To be on the look out for problems that you may have heard others having is only going to make you worry and probably think you have found a problem where none may exist.

  • Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated the system to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. Why and what am I supposed to do?

Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated it from Lion to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. They also didn't put Pages, Keynote or Numbers back on it until I argued with them. Of course, I didn't have my data backed up. My hard drive was destroyed when I tried to install the update of Mavericks myself. I should not have to buy iWeb and iPhoto when I already had them. Suggestions?

    cwhargrave,
have you tried looking in the App Store, to see if you can redownload iWeb and iPhoto there gratis?
If you haven’t done so already, you should purchase an external hard drive to act as a Time Machine backup destination, so that you’ll have an option to rollback to a working environment if a new OS installation is troublesome.

  • Inputting audio/video into my macbook pro? with Apple DVI to Video Adapter?

I work with video, and am trying to save my minidv cam's life. is there a more direct way to input directly from a vcr/television into my macbook pro? because right now i'm having to input from my vcr/television into my minidv then into my macbook through firewire.
i was considering the Apple DVI to Video Adapter ( http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=724 17D66&fnode=home/shopmac/macaccessories/cables&nplm=M9267G/A#overview )
but i'm fairly certain that this is output-only. does anyone know if there is a way to input through it as well, or anything that works similarly?

I thought that cables and adapters worked the same going either direction. I believed that the only concern was the male or female end points on them. Not sure anymore though

You should be able to accept this message, it will cause existing music, photos (not camera roll) and videos (also excluding those in camera roll) to be removed and replaced with those from this computer. All other user data on the iPad will be unaffected.

  • HT1270 does installing aftermarket RAM into new macbook pro non-retina void apple warranty

does installing aftermarket RAM into new macbook pro non-retina void apple warranty

Only for the RAM which should be covered by the manufacturers/vendors warranty.  Now if you damage the MBP while installing the RAM then you may find yourself voiding the MBP warranty.  But ir does take a lot to do that.
    Ciao.

  • When does apple integrate the new Core 2 Duo Processors into the MacBooks?!

Does anyone know if apple decided to integrate the new Core 2 Duo processors from Intel into the Macbooks, yet?
    When does it happen?!?!?
    Thx
    backbeat

In order to keep up with the core 2 duo processor enabled laptops, apple must sooner or later have the new processors in either the MB lineup or the MBP's...however, if you want to fully take advantage of the new core 2 duo processors, might as well wait 'til next spring..when they come out with the new logic boards for the core 2 duo's...the current core 2 duo's share the same pin lay-out with the core duo's, so they can be used in the same logic boards,....(the people who buy the MB's with the core 2 duo processors are gonna regret buying it if they buy it before spring....cuz of this..)
wait 'til next spring so you'll be fully happy with your MB...or , like me, you can just wait for your order right now and be satisfied with it.....
when you do wait 'til spring, they'll probably have another new technological advancement, so you'll wanna wait for that.....sooner or later....we'll get 3D computer screens!!!!~~~
my point is, you must evaluate what you'll be using your MB for...if the current MB's can fully service you, don't wait...

  • HT204053 Why does Apple kick their old subscribers under the bus? I have an iMac G5 2.1 Computer using Leopard 10.5.8 system, and I am no longer able to renew my MobileMe account, Why? Maybe I should look into PC Computers in the future!

Why does Apple kick their old subscribers under the bus? I have an iMac G5 1.9 and 2.1 computer using Leopard 10.5.8 system, and I cannot renew my MobileMe account, why? Is Apple incapable of keeping their old subscriber accounts active and still update their system? Maybe I should look into buying a PC in the future? I eagerly await your reply. Thanks

MobileMe is being terminated in two weeks. If you have files on your iDisk which are not also on your computer you need to be downloading them as soon as possible or you will lose them.
You can migrate to iCloud and set Mail up manually to receive your @me.com mail:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
You will not be able to sync calendars or contacts. If you want to have general online file storage you will need to find a third-party alternative - this page examines some options:

  • I am looking at a MacBook pro 17 early 2011 with water damage that doesn't turn on. Now t would have a voided warranty wondered if anyone knew how much apple would charge to fix. If its worth fixing?

I am looking at a MacBook pro 17 early 2011 with water damage that doesn't turn on. Now t would have a voided warranty wondered if anyone knew how much apple would charge to fix. If its worth fixing?

It mostly depends on the damage that was done (the LCD, keyboard, etc) but yours does not turn on so I am assuming it was fully submerged and completely damaged. Therefore, I would think your warranty is most definitely void.
When did this happen? How bad was it? Have you taken any measures to get it to dry? You can go online and you can find tips on how to dry it at least a bit so that it is not as bad, it might not get it to work, but it can help you prevent rusting, which would cause further damage thus reducing the probability of getting repaired/replaced. Also, do not try to turn it on unless you have tried to dry it as it will damage it even more (electricity + water = destruction). I would suggest giving this a try, and if it is still not working then it is probably worth a try with Apple, just go in for a consultation in terms of pricing. If they seem too high and/or the warranty is void, then you can opt for after-market products which significantly reduce the repair costs... as you would have nothing to lose anyway in terms of warranty.
It's $3,000, that pays my rent. Even investing $1,000 would be better than just not giving it a try at all lol.
