Apple devices, not releasing IP addresses

Hi,
We have a Cisco 4400 controller and a mix of 1010 and 1131 access points.
We have been running out of IP's on our DHCP server because the apple devices are not releasing there IP's.
If you have experienced the same problem, could you let me know how you solved the issue please?
Kind regards,
Jamie

We've run into a similar issue and we tried lowering the dhcp lease time to 1 hour and this has provided some relief so far.

  • Apple devices not receiving IP address

    Hello everyone,
I searched for a resolution to my problem but couldn't find one so hopefully I can get some help here.
We have a 2504 controller (Code 7.0.220.0) deployed with 7 LAPs.  We have a few SSIDs, both with WPA/WPA2 configured.  There is an external DHCP server that all clients get their IP address from.  Laptops can connect to these SSIDs with no problem.
Lately tho, no APPLE devices (iphone 4, 4s, 5, ipads, etc) can get an IP address.  They are all stuck in the DHCP_REQD state.  I ran some debugs and I see that an APPLE device keeps getting a DHCPOFFER with an IP address but the APPLE device never accepts.  Has anyone ever had this issue ?
Here is the debug of the client getting DHCP offers but never accepting:

I saw in another thread that disable WPA/TKIP can work, however this isn't an association issue because they association just fine, they just can get an IP address.
Any help would be great.  Thanks!

    Hey all,
Thanks again everyone for the help.  Turns out after a lot of packet captures and pointless calls with TAC, I found the issue was a bug with the ASA firewall.
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuh79288
The DHCP lease time to Apple devices was 0 seconds (might be due to the fact that Apple devices request Options 119 and 252).  The fix was configure "dhcprelay timeout 60" on the firewall.
Makes no sense I know but it fixed it.

  • Cisco 877w - Apple devices not able to see wired apple TV

    Hello All,
Can anyone point me to a doc or forum discussion on how to setup the wireless interface to forward multicast packets?  Basically I cant get the ipads etc.. to see the AppleTV to control it.  I connected an AP and it works fine so its got to be something with the way the router handles the packets from teh integrated wireless interface.  I've been searching the forum for about 1hr and haven't founf anything other than a breif mention of broadcast forwarding and multicast setup.
Has anyone got anything more complrehensive I can read?
    Thanks
    David

    Hello David,
Thank you for contacting the Sales Acceleration Center (SAC) regarding your recent inquiry, Case Number
    Case Description:
Cisco 877w - Apple devices not able to see wired apple TV
    Case Solution:
The Bonjour service uses multicast to advertise your Home Sharing enabled device to the local network. In my case the Cisco 877W I was using had a Layer 3 enabled BVI (Bridged Virtual Interface) to which the Wireless Dot11Radio interface was not fowarding multicast packets properly.
First of all, obtain the Multicast groups your wireless adapter is configured for (on Windows open a command prompt and run the below command):
The result will give you an output as per below, we are interested in the multicast address directly after the 224.0.0.252 address 239.255.255.250:
Then we need to enable multicast routing on the router, connect to your router and enter config terminal mode:
Next we will configure IGMP v3 and add the relevant Wireless interface on your router to the correct multicast address group:
Next perform the same config your BVI interface:
Once complete save your changes and confirm both interfaces have been added to the multicast groups using the command sh ip igmp group:
You now need to reload your router and restart iTunes and then attempt to connect to Home Sharing from your Apple TV.
Other commands that I used to troubleshoot with were:
debug ip mpacket - Multicast Packet Debugging
debug ip mroute - Debug Multicast Routing
sh ip mroute - Show IP Multicast Routes
By default the Cisco implementation of a Dot11Radio interface and a BVI interface don't appear to forward multicast packets between each other. Seems odd to me as they're both in the same L2 bridging group..anyway.
I am going to close the case for this specific inquiry on my side. If you need moere information Please feel free to reach out to me or any member of the SAC team if we can be of any further assistance or if you have any other related questions in the future. We strive to provide you with excellent service. We value your input and look forward to serving you moving forward.

  • HT200109 Why do all my other Apple devices not care if the movie I rented from iTunes if it was downloaded directly to that device or not, but the stupid Apple TV won't allow you to play rented movies unless you rented it directly from the Apple TV?

Why do all my other Apple devices not care if the movie I rented from iTunes if it was downloaded directly to that device or not, but the stupid Apple TV won't allow you to play rented movies unless you rented it directly from the Apple TV?
Great, so now I have to airplay it by linking my computer to my Apple TV and then the movie has to buffer! So, all that time I spent downloading the HD video has to technically "download" again by buffering. The more I use Apple TV, the more I feel like this item was not created by Apple. I don't even use it for what I originally purchased it for. If I would have known that anytime I wanted to sync a movie from my computer to Apple TV by using airplay that it would have to buffer the movie, I would have never ever ever ever ever purchased this waste of time device. So the video has to technically play all the way through one time first so Apple TV can "remember" the movie to play it back in real time afterwards.
Am I missing something here? Am I doing something wrong that can be fixing my problem? I should have known that the Apple TV had so many things backwards when simple things like when you are using the remote and you reach the bottom of your list, in order to cycle back to the top of your list you have then press the directional buton back the other way rather than most modern day devices that will automatically cycle you back to the top or to the other side when you reached the bottom or end but keep on pressing the button. That **** annoys me when I am doing a search for a movie and have to type the name in manually and have to cycle back and forth to the letters. It makes me feel like I am using a rotary phone or something!

I was told by someone to try and purchase something directly from my Apple TV and that will help authorize my Apple TV.  So I picked something that was free and it downloaded.
Then I went back to the Movie that would not work and it played just fine.
So it seemed to work.  I will have to try it on other movies and TV shows later.

  • Fotostream - PC sync to Apple Device not working !

    Hello,
i configured my FotoStream as it was written in the FAQ of apple.com.
The problem is, that Picutres or Videos i add to the folder on my Windows Computer were not synced to my apple device ( i Phone, close future also iPad*late november *).
I did all i read in forums. Deinstall all, reconfigure, use default path, set Fotostream back via icloud.com. Nothing works. It is for me an Important feature so tell me what can i do, that the Pciture in the PC Dekstop Folder get synced. The way from iPhone to PC works perfect.
i read that iOS 6 is the problem. Is that true ? Under 5 it should work ?! If it is like that, when do will be a fix released.
    Thank you very much.
    Regards

  • 1080p for Apple Devices not working in Compressor

Was happy to see the new settings for the ATV3 in Compressor, but it doesn't work.  I keep getting a qucktime error -108 about a third of the way into processing.  Plenty of memory is showing in Activity Monitor.
I've tried both a short and long movie, with quickcluster turned on and off, both fail.
I've tried all the suggested fixes I can find.  Reinstalling Compressor, Stop/Starting/Resetting sharing, deleting preferences.
The same movies work fine with the previous Apple TV/Device settings.
Share from FCPx to ATV3 works, but it extremely slow for the longer movies, and I want to use Compressor and the quickcluster.
Is anyone else having this problem.

Some people (including me) have reported flakey changes in sharing after updating. (My issues, however, were broader than just Apple Device presets.)
If I understand your description correctly, sharing is working – just not for one preset – so it's questionable whether it's even Qmaster-related.
You've already tried the fixes I would have suggested – except you might also try Digital Rebellion's Compressor Repair.
Finally, take a look at this thread and see whether David's method works for you.
    Good luck.

  • Why are all my Apple devices not connecting to the web?

I have an Airport express and has been working fine up until recently. Now none of my Apple devices are connecting to the web. They all find the network no problem and all connect however they will not connect to the internet. The strange thing is that our Windows laptop works fine but absolutly nothing from Apple, this includes a 2011 MacBook pro, iphone 3gs, ipod touch, Apple tv and 2x 2nd gen ipads. I have reset the airport and  set up a new network, it worked for one day and is back to how it was. Any advice would be great

I seem to be having a similair issue. I have an AirPort Extreme and my iMac connects fine but now my Kindle and Netflix are unable to connect to the Internet? They see my network but just can't connect to the internet?
I used to have my cable modem connected to a Vonage phone router, which then connected to my Airport. Everything worked fine then. I recently canceled my Vonage service and removed the phone router. Now my cable modem is connected directly to my Airport. Did removing the phone router casue my problem? Do I need to re-set something to get my kindle and Netflix to work again?

  • Not releasing IP address

I've been having problems with my broadband connection for a few days and according to my ISP there is nothing wrong with the line or modem. They've told me that the cause of the problem is that my computers aren't releasing the IP addesses. Even when you try to force them to renew the DHCP lease nothing happens. This is happening on a PowerBook, iBook and a Win XP laptop. They are all showing the same IP address. I've tried reseting the AEBS etc and this worked once at the weekend but not since. My ISP has said that my computers all need to go for 'repair' to sort the problem which I'm not convinced is right. Is it not the airport that issues the new IP address rather than the computer releasing it?
I'm using a 6 month old extreme with a cable modem broadband setup.
I've also dug out my old slightly dodgy (signal drops a lot) graphite airport to try today but although I managed to get it giving strong signal, same IP address as other one and no internet connection when open browser, exactly the same as happens with extreme.
By the way, nothing else has changed, the network settings are correct and has been working perfectly up to now.
Any one know whats wrong or what I can do about it?
    Please help!
    Clare.
PowerBook, iBook, iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Airport Extreme

    Woo Hoo!
As of this morning I'm back on broadband! Despite doing nothing at this end which completely validates the techs at Telewest being usless. The fact that two of them kept putting me on hold every 30 secs when I didn't give them answers they wanted as they went and looked up their manual was also a clue...
I connected the modem directly to PB and iBook at the weekend but it didn't work which made me more convinced it was at fault with ISP, but they thought otherwise as apparently my modem was responding to them when the tested from their end.
As my broadband has been working perfectly for the past 5 years I've never had much reason to be concerned with network settiings and how IP addesses work but over the pat few days I've had a bit of a crash course! I was begining to work it out in my head through trial and error so thanks for explaining it.
It looks like it was indeed a problem on the line. Hopefully thats the last of it. What was annoying me was that last monday broadand went down as well and when called ISP without them asking a lot of questions they told me somebody had already reported a fault and it would be fixed in a few hours which it was. However when it went again on saturday, they of course asked what OS I was on and the mention of apple resulted in ten million question and the fact that I'd repeatedly checked everything at this end before I'd called stumped them. They insisted that it wasn't right that the IP was the same therefore it must be my mac and it needed to be sent away, all 3 of them that is, and the Win laptop too for good measure!!
I now have dial up installed so never again will I have to take their word for it.
    Thanks for yourr help

  • Apple devices not detected in Windows 8.1

Win 8.1, Itunes 11.2.2.3, Ipod 5 and Ipad Air not recognized in iTunes nor PC. Tried everything I've found in the net and nothing helps. USB ports working fine. Apple mobile device USB driver not listed. This is driving me nuts! Don't send me to the Apple support 1538 case. Please help!!!

Excellent and thanks for the "spot on" tip!  I only wish I had found it before bringing up a different compter to re-sync my Apple mobile products, which of course meant I had to rebuild my libraries on that system.
On Windows 8.1 64 bit I did find the steps to be a little different from what Steven outlined and for those less compfortable with technology I thought I would include a version edited for Windows 8.1 64 bit specifically.
Connect You Apple Mobile device to the PC with iTunes.
In the PC's Device Manager expand the "Portable Devices" entry.
Right-click the Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, or Apple iPod entry in Device Manager and choose "Update Driver Software" from the shortcut menu.
Choose the option to "Browse my computer for driver software" and browse to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers and highlight that folder for the driver update.
Click "OK" then "Next" and your Apple mobile device should now be rocognized (verify this in iTunes)
Repeat for any other Apple mobile dvices synced on this computer.
    All credit to Steven, however!

  • 5508 WLC not releasing DHCP addresses

Have a WLC 5508 running 7.0.230 with internal DHCP server. Timeout is 3600 seconds. The IP addresses never seem to be released.
The controller will show 70 clients but 254 addresses will be assigned. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

#Check "Lease remaining time" change in this value on the WLC for the clients that are not currently connected and already connected to it. Watch if its getting removed/refreshed once the lease time is expired.
#Cross reference with cli as well.
#If its an open wlan, client pass by will get an ip, so what admin seeing could be new client keep coming in and its an expected behavior.
#Find if time is static or client's dhcp entry doesn't remove once lease time expired.
#Per design, WLC doesn't release the internal dhcp ip when the client sends deauth to WLC, however, it should when the timer gets expired for clients that were currently not connected.

  • How To Fix Your Apple Devices Not Linking Up Together When You Update to iOS8

A lot of people including myself had this problem and it took me forever to figure out what was going on and how to fix.  To save you a trip to the Apple store watch this how-to video i posted on youtube: http://youtu.be/VCX0y_gEJdg

This works flawless for me. I have upgraded many with a PC over the years.
    Manual device OS upgrade instructions:
    1. First locate your carrier and the OS file you wish to use.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    2. Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion and unplug BlackBerry. Get DM here http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
    3. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    4. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    5. This step is not needed unless there is an issue on next steps. Use BBSAK from BBSAK.org and wipe the device (after doing a complete backup) then after you get the error 507 (no OS installed) then proceed to step 6
    6. remove internet connection to PC and reboot PC.
    7. Plug in BlackBerry and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file was in.
    8. if you did Step 5, restore from back up. Follow this KB if needed http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB10339

What particular Wireless Security are you using? If you are using WEP, try to put a # sign before the actual key. Or make sure you are using the correct wireless security passphrase if you are using WPA.
