Apple Digital AV Adapter - DVI port on Dell flat screen?

What do I need to connect my iPad 2 to my Dell 24" flat screen monitor?  I have the Apple Digital AV Adapter and use it for my HDTV.
Can it somehow be adapted for the Dell monitor?

Chances are the Dell monitor is the way you described since it's a few years old.  After writing this yesterday, I hooked up the iPad 2 to my HDTV and was blown away! If I have to be "tethered" to something, it's much better that it's the HDTV. (Infinity Blade, Angry Birds, Fishdom H2O and Astraware Casino) - I was up late into the night with these.
Thank you for the fast answer!

  • Apple digital av adapter problem

I bought a apple digital av adapter for my ipad mini a week ago and it's been working fine until yesterday. I unplugged it and when I came back home and replugged the digital adapter back into my ipad mini it would give me "the cable or adapter is not certified or may not work reliably with this ipad"
(p.s. I'm not really sure if I'm writing this in the right place or not, sorry.)

    Hello Allecra,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are having trouble with a Digital AV Adapter. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.
About Apple Digital AV Adapters for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
    Troubleshooting
If you encounter an issue using the Apple Digital AV Adapter or VGA Adapter:
Disconnect and reconnect the adapter from the iOS device and display.
Connect directly to the TV, projector, or external display using a known-good VGA or HDMI cable.
Remove any VGA or HDMI extension cables or converters.
Note that accessories that convert a VGA or HDMI signal to other video formats (DVI, Composite, Component) are not supported.
Ensure that you are using the latest version of iOS. Some Apple Digital AV Adapters require iOS 5.1 or later.
When using an Apple Digital AV Adapter manufactured before early 2012 with iPad (3rd generation), you may see the "This accessory is not supported" alert. Dismissing the alert will allow you to use the adapter.
For optimal performance, you may need to adjust the video resolution or settings for your display. If your display offers an "auto detect" or "factory default" setting, you may be able to use these options to optimize video resolution and display.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a nice day,

  • Can I use a UK-bought iPad 2 with Apple Digital AV Adapter in Australia?

I need to give a Keynote presentation in Australia later this year and was considering buying an Apple Digital AV Adapter to connect to a HDTV. I'm currently in the UK and have bought my iPad 2 (iOS 4.3.5) here.
Are there any compatibility issues that I should be aware of, or can I go ahead and just plug in?
    TIA!

I think that the HDMI standard is the same worldwide. The digital adapter is HDMI. So, if the TV has an HDMI port and you have an HDMI to HDMI cable, that much should work.
Folks have reported that a few HDMI TVs do not appear to work with the adapter.

  • What is the difference between Apple Digital AV Adapter and Apple TV?

Which is better, Apple TV or Apple Digital AV Adapter?
Which one is the best devise to purchase?
Do they both accomplish the same thing?
    Is one better/easier to use?
Can they/should they be used together?
    Please advise!!!

    Hi Min,
AS Churchhill said one is more or less a computer, that being the Apple TV. The other is simply adapter for an iPad or iphone and are designed for sharing those devices screen on larger on larger one. I've included the overview of the Digiatal Av adapter for you.

  • Anyone able to play Amazon Instant Video using Apple Digital AV Adapter

Amazon just released the Amazon Instant Video app for the iPad July 31, 2012. Version is 1.0
It's not a great app yet. I can get it to play on the iPad (by itself). When I hook up the iPad to the TV using the Digital AV Adapter, the app gets very unstable, crashes at times, doesn't load shows....basically doesn't work. Virtually everything else on the iPad displays fine on the TV using the adapter. I've tried Safari, Netflix, and a couple of games just to see if the problem was with the iPad or the app. The problem is with the app.
I emailed Amazon support via feedback within the app, and got responses back similar to this:
"I'm so sorry for the trouble you facing with the Instant videos which you want to play on TV.
I understand now a days all the TV's are HDMI connected but I assure you that we are working for the improvements required on this field.
The Amazon Instant Video app for iPad does not support playback on HDMI-connected TVs.
Customer feedback like yours helps us continue to improve the service we provide. I've forwarded your feedback to our Amazon Instant Video team for consideration as we make future improvements."
I find it hard to believe they designed it to not work that way-I replied and asked them if it was...have not heard back yet.
Has anyone been able to view Amazon Instant Video on their TV from an iPad ? If yes, how did you do it.?

<"The makers of the app tell you it does not work that way, you think they are lying to you?">
Where did you read that the app doesn't support this?  Their app description says it does not support AirPlay. I'm not using AirPlay. It doesn't mention anywhere that it doesn't support iPads connected to TVs with HDMI, except in a support email response back to me.
With the iPad hard wired to the TV with the Apple Digital AV Adapter and an HDMI cable, on all of the other apps I've tried, the TV mirrors the iPad display. Even the few free games I tried would do this. This app falls apart when you hook up the HDMI to the iPad. To me that's a bug. I find it hard to believe that they designed it to not put out compatible digital video from the iPad. I would rather have seen their email response say that this is a known bug and that they are working on a fix. Maybe they are just beginning to understand the issues with version 1 and told the poor people answering the support emails to just say that it's not supported.
I'm not particularly upset with them, as it is v1.0 of a free app. It's got plenty of other shortcomings. I was hoping that it would work somthat we could take advantage of the Amazon Prime stuff we're paying for without having to go out and buy another set top box or Blu-ray player that was compatible with their stuff.
I would have gladly paid some money for a well designed app. Wish they had gone that route.

  • Is there a way to use the Apple digital AV adapter to mirror the iPhone 4 (not 4s) screen on my TV?

I purchased the Apple digital AV adapter and an HDMI cable from the Apple store so that I could display the content of my phone on my TV.  It works for video and photo slide shows but I want to mirror my phone content like you can for the iPhone 4s.  Is there a work around to make this adapter work for me?
    Thanks for your help.
    Diana

Rather than mirror the display, set it to 'extended desktop' and have the browser on one screen and the movie on the other.
CMD F1 will toggle between mirror and extended.

  • IPhone4 & Apple Digital AV Adapter - doesn't work

    Hi,
maybe somebody got an idea -
I bought Apple Digital AV Adapter for my iphone4. Looking at the specs everything should work smoothly. Compatible with iPhone4, should mirrow the screen.
As next step I connected it to my projector - unfortunately I was not able to display anything on the projector
From the shop I received a new cable (they could not test it and they thought it might be broken). Today I tested it again and I was not able to display anything on the screen even with the new cable. I noticed that I am able to play audio on my projector. Not exactly what I was looking for but at least a sign of signal.
Also I tried with searching for signal on my projector - it selects hdmi goes off the bluescreen mode and displays then just black.
Would be great to get a hint or an answer, since the lads in the shop could not help further.
    Thanks,
    Tomasz

Thanks - you've been right - this adaptor does not mirrow the screen. What I have been reading on the web is that you will need to jailbreak your iphone. For some reasons apple does not allow this feature, not sure why.

  • IPad 2 & Apple Digital AV Adapter.

Hello all.  I recently purchased a Apple Digital AV Adapter to connect my iPad 2 to my television.  It worked liked a charm immedialtely mirroring what was on my iPad screen.  I used Netflix as well and it went fine.  The problem is with my Apple Videos.  I wentto play some purchased items and it would act like it was going to start but the TV screen would stay blank and the iPad screen would say that it is playing the video on the TV.  Not the case...  No sound or video would play.  When I moved the video cursor on the iPad, (High Speed Scrubbing)  the frame would show on the TV as a still image but would not play.  Does anyone have any guidance on this.

    Yes.

No, only audio streaming is possible with apps that support audio playback of video content in background (e.g., the stock YouTube client). As soon as you tap the Home button, display mirroring kicks in. (On the iPad 1, where there's no mirroring, the stream pauses.)

Yes (assuming you have a quality HDMI cable), and with videos over XGA resolution (the iPad 2 only has an XGA-resolution screen), even better.

  • Apple Digital AV Adapter mirror is pink and dull.

Using the Apple Digital AV Adapter. iPad 2 - HDMI on a Samsung LN-T2642H and the picture is pink and dull. Both screen mirroring and video out is pink and dull. If I connect my iPhone 4 or my iPod Touch and use the adapter for video out the picture is fine however. Mmm, I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Problem may have been fixed for me by flashing to the August 2010 firmware for my TV.  Originally had firmware from 2009 - the year I bought the TV.

Been watching NetFlix via the HDMI connector for over 30 minutes now without colours going pink or inverting.  Earlier today it was inverting within 5 to 10 minutes.

  • Apple digital AV adapter for the ipad 2 or a Apple TV

What should I get a Apple digital AV adapter for the ipad 2 or a Apple TV?
Wanna use it for showing photo and movies:)
    thx

Assuming that you already have the iPad 2, you're looking at a $99 purchase versus as $39 purchase. Why to spend over twice as much on the AppleTV?
Another thing it would depend on is how often you plan to use the connection. If it's going to be an everyday constant thing where you're likely to find yourself wanting the surf but the iPad is connected to the TV (so you have to disconnect then re-connect each time), then maybe that will be enough of a hassle to get the AppleTV. If you only want to use it every now and again (like after renting a video from iTunes, or to share content when people come over), then you may just get the Digital AV adapter and be fine.
Actually, I just thought of a third option. You want the connection to be more convenient, but would still rather not have the AppleTV sitting there unused most of the time, you could add the iPad 2 dock for $29 which would be $69 dollars and you're still under the $99 of the AppleTV.
Oh, and one MORE thing to think about If you've got a computer connected to your network (that's connected to your media library) you may find that having the AppleTV is an easy way to get all that content to your TV, so it would be an additional benefit to the whole situation above and beyond just the iPad.
For me, I purchased the AppleTV, I have one stationary computer (a Mini) that serves all my music and videos that are in my iTunes library, plus an iPad which I can use as a remote control to control the AppleTV, or I can use AirPlay to push video/audio to the TV from any connected device. I like being able to freely switch between modes at any time without disconnecting and reconnecting cables and this setup allows that (also allows making my TV's sound system a broadcast station for all my music!)

  • Is the Apple Digital AV Adapter  and the Apple VGA Adapter the same thing

is the Apple Digital AV Adapter  and the Apple VGA Adapter the same thing i want to get a ipad and i want to no if there the same thing before i buy it i would want it for the web for pic but for videos too

VGA is an analog signal, while HDMI is an uncompressed digital image.
The uncompressed digital image is more superior.

Hi Rob - thanks so much for your help!  Could you tell me what "air sever or reflector apps." are? and where can I look for information about them?
Do you use them on the Ipad or on the PC?
Do I need a cable too and which one?
Sorry... I am not very technical as you can see, thanks for your help.

  • Which 3rd party apps support Apple Digital AV Adapter?

I'm trying to find a list of which apps support video out through the Apple Digital AV Adapter. (I'm using an iPhone 4, so there's no mirroring function.) I was delighted to discover that I could stream 720p video to the living room TV using Home Sharing. It works beautifully! Now, I'm wondering about other non-Apple apps like EyeTV for example. Can they stream through the adapter also?

Thank you for answering, but sadly, I wasn't able to find these informations in the app descriptions. Just Real Racing 2 and MC3 had informations about supporting TV out.
Do you know where to find them?
