Apparently mail doesn't clear the outbox when something goes wrong with the transfer or the transfer isn't completed. The outbox only seems to get cleared when the mail is successfully sent.
Finally found out where the outbox was located and copied an emptied outbox for the mailpod program and renamed it to outbox. That fixed the problem with whatever went wrong cause I deleted the old mailbox. Kept getting that spinning beach ball of death and had to keep pressing the power button to get any control back.
I am surprised that there is no search capability for fixing panther mail anymore on the apple website. I paid for my 3 year support and should still be able to get online info on panther, you would think....

I need adobe flash player for my iPad,however apple doesn't support it...what else can I do

Searching the forum before posting would be your best bet. This is discussed dozens of times a day... with various (partial) workarounds posted repeatedly.
Adobe Flash does not exist for iOS devices, so no matter how much you "need" it, you can't get it.

  • HT4898 Why is Apple downgrading sync support for Mail with iCloud?

In the past, if I didn't move forward when Apple moved forward, all that happened was that I did not have access to new features.
This time, with the demise of MobileMe and the introduction of iCloud, if I don't move forward I lose features, but even worse, even if I do move forward, I still lose features.
In particular, the lack of syncronization under iCloud of Mail's Rules, Accounts, and Smart Mailboxes means that on our several machines I have to manually do updates multiple times, which of course leads to multiple mistakes.
In my view, what Apple has done has the look and feel of customer abuse, something usually attributed to another large tech company.  I can't avoid losing functionality, whether or not I move forward with Apple.
The word disgraceful comes to mind.
Is there a good reason for Apple's policies that concern Mail-feature synchronization?  I'd like to hear them.

What is the point in speculating? All it does is lead to misinformation being put out, a lot of which ends up being taken as fact by those who don't realise it is just speculation. Speculating on unproven facts does not lead to understanding. If you don't know the true reason for something, how can you understand it?
I should not have picked up on the word, speculate, which you introduced in your first reply to me.  These are called Apple Support Communities, after all, and so I was hoping there was a reader somewhere who knew more about the tech world, in particular Apple's world, than I do, and was also someone who could shed light on why Apple has taken the path it has taken.
And Apple aren't saying you can't speculate at all - just not here, on Apple's official forums ... . We're Apple's guests on these forums so  ... you abide by the rules.
So, I checked the Terms of Use, and of course, you are correct. Apple wants no criticism of their policies on the Apple Support Communities forums.  The ASC forums are operated on Apple's dollar, and hence they have the right to manage the forums as they see fit.
The "agreements" we sign every day to use various digital services (or banking services, for that matter) are not negotiated understandings.  They are of the form, "our way or the highway".
Exactly, and if you don't agree with it. Don't use it. Nobody is holding a gun to your head. MobileMe and iCloud and all the other services Apple offers are optional. Nobody has to use them.
I'm disappointed that you used the gun-to-your-head argument, because it stands out as sophmoric, especially in the light of your other observations.  Today's corporations do everything they can to insulate themselves from legal actions of disgruntled customers.  Some of that is understandable because of the litigious nature of our society.  But the one sided agreements, tantamount to sign and we play, otherwise we take our ball and bat and go home, are in fact a de facto coercion to sign.  Were we all to say, No, to such agreements, our society would have to return to the pre-transistor era.  In order to live in our modern society, we have to sign.
I went right to the top months ago, but as is common with the stereotypical large corporation, and now Apple, I was totally ignored.
Just because you didn't receive a reply, doesn't mean your email was not considered. ...
And making requests via email to a CEO isn't like a drive-thru restaurant where they take your order and immediately do as you asked (shareholder or not).
As a matter of logic, the fact that someone does not answer one's letter does not mean that the letter was not read or considered.  As a matter of probability, however, it is quite likely that the letter was ignored or read and ignored, especially since CEO's of large corporations have a staff to handle things like this.  I wrote to Cook because it was reported that he paid attention.
And thanks for educating me on the difference between a CEO and a drive-thru restaurant.
Well, in keeping with the ASC Terms of Use, I'm not supposed to be talking about any of this.  So with due deference to the Terms, over and out.

  • Mail works, now my AOL doesn't retrieve my mail anymore

I set up my mail (v2.1) because applications kept trying to
launch it. I used the POP format for my AOL account. It worked
fine at getting my mail from AOL.
The problem is that I can no longer get mail from my AOL page.
It keeps seeing no new mail in the mailbox when there IS new
mail that is able to be retrieved by Mail 2.1
Why can't I have both working together?
Can I migrate my AOL address book to Mail?
    Mike [email protected]

    Hi Mike!
"I used the POP format for my AOL account."
    That may be the problem.
Here are the correct settings, to configure Apple Mail with AOL mail.
    -Account Type: IMAP
    -Incoming Mail Server: imap.aol.com
-Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.aol.com:Your AOL Screenname Here
    -Server Port: 587
You may also want to try using the utility AOL® Service Assistant, which can be downloaded from this website AOL Macintosh Downloads.
"The AOL Service Assistant enables you to set up the following Apple applications to work with the AOL service:
    • Mail - The AOL Service Assistant makes it easy to configure Mac OS X Mail to send and receive AOL mail. If you've used the existing AOL for Mac OS X product, you can also import your incoming and outgoing messages from your Personal Filing Cabinet into Mail.
    • iChat - You can now easily set up iChat to work with your Screen Name.
    • Address Book - Using the AOL Service Assistant, you can now easily import your AOL Address Book contacts into your Mac OS X Address Book without bringing in duplicate entries.
    • Safari - AOL Service Assistant enables you to import your Favorite Places into a folder in the Safari Bookmarks Bar."

  • Why isn't there a flag? Apple doesn't support nano and 10.3.9!

I got a nano as a gift. Just found out it doesn't work with any mac, but does work with an old windows product?! Apple, this make me think you don't care about your loyal customers.
Why don't you post this on the nano packaging in something more readable than grey 6 point type, and why don't you provide a work around for your customers who don't have the latest mac?
You've got to stay with your customers who stay with you.

am totally bummed out as mine was a gift as well and now I have to return it...

  • How do I open a Word attachment now that Apple no longer supports this application?

I have had several applications I can no longer open as Apple doesn't support them anymore.  Word Docs, in particular.  the PowerPC thingy isn't working.  Now what?

Is that because you have upgraded to Lion?
You can use PowerPC applications in Lion if you install Snow Leopard (and Rosetta) into Parallels 7 in Lion:

  • Lion doesn't support my airport

When I try to update my airport I get the message, software doesn't support my airport anymore. Is it time feed the Apple machine again?

Which AirPort do you have?  Check the bottom of the device...if you have an AirPort Extreme....or on the side if you have an AirPort Express.
The model number starts with an "A" followed by four numbers.
If you see A1033 for the AirPort Extreme or A1084 or A1088 for the AirPort Express, AirPort Utility in Lion does not support these older versions of the AirPorts.
If you have another Mac running the Leopard or Snow Leopard operating system, or a PC, then you can administer the older AirPort that way.

  • Apple Mail doesn't support IMAP IDLE

I had started using Entourage for a while just for testing since I had reacently started using a new IMAP server and I wanted to see how all the different email software behaves differently so that I can know what everyone will expect to see. Probably my favorite feature of the IMAP4rev1 protocol is IDLE. This feature gives the client the ability to stay connected to server so that the second an email comes in, it is "pushed" to the client.
This is very different from the way that with POP3 and HTTPmail that you need to poll the server. Here's the real bummer for me though, my absolute favorite email client, Apple Mail, DOESN'T SUPPORT 'IMAP IDLE'!!!!!!!
I beg you Apple to please realease a new version of Apple Mail that supports IDLE properly so that the client can stay connected to the IMAP server.
Other not as important feature requests/bugs that I have:
    * CRAM-MD5 authentication on SMTP doesn't work for me in Apple Mail even though my server supports it and it works fine in other email clients
    * A three pane vertical view similar to Entourage/Outlook... It would just be a nice option
    * Ability to hide individual IMAP folders aka Unsubscribe
    * AND ONCE AGAIN PLEASE SUPPORT IDLE!!!
Now if I have this all wrong and there is some way to turn IDLE on that is a hidden setting, someone please tell me. I'd be interested in hearing what someone from Apple has to say about this missing feature. Thank you!
    1.5GHz 15" PowerBook Aluminum   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   2GB RAM, 60GB 7200 RPM HD, SuperDrive, iSight

No, all this does is download all of my emails and cache all of them locally (regardless of what folder they are in). I wouldn't want this to happen because I definitely have over 100MB stored on my email server.
IDLE is something entirely different... I'm still hoping to get a reply from Apple.
If anybody else is annoyed with this please file a feature/bug request/submit form at www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/ so that we can try to get this resolved soon via some sort of update. OS X 10.5 is still a ways away so I'd definitely like to see an update to 2.05 before we get to 3.0.

    ChrisK21,
Make sure your settings match up with this:

if wouldn't hurt to delete the account entirely and just re-set it up in preferences.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if one component, such as Apple Mobile Device Support, won't install normally.

Here are the correct settings. They have never changed since iCloud debuted a year ago.

    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:

    SSL Required: Yes
    Port: 587
    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
