Apple DU vs SoftRAID's drivers for RAID volumes, performancewise?

Hi,
For some time I have been using SoftRAID's (http://www.softraid.com/) drivers (v. 4.0.7) for an OS+apps SSD and my users' accounts on a 2*2TB RAID0 (WD Caviar Blacks) volume. At present the User volume is about 50% full (2 of 4TB).
I am considering to make the users' accounts volume a 2*3TB RAID1 (Hitachis) for safety reasons. My questions to the knowledgable people in this forum are:
1) I am aware that a RAID1 will be slower than a RAID0 volume. But will an Apple DU RAID1 or a SoftRAID RAID1 volume likely be faster?
2) Using SoftRAID's drivers on disks/volumes prohibits use of some troubleshooting utilities such as iPartition, DriveGenius, etc. Hence, is it adviseable to put SoftRAID drivers also on non-RAID volumes, such as my SSD boot volume?
I am hoping somebody with experience in these things can advise.
Thanks.

Softraid always worked with TTPro and Disk Warrior, and never needed the others, and I wouldn't let iPartition touch someone else's.
Apple mirror I rate as weaker, doesn't use a stripe read, doesn't alert to I/O errors. don't they mention in features their implementation of mirror rebuilds and faster background rebuilds when needed?
Personally, a good backup sets and clones. Mirror if you use three rdives so even under a failure you still have two and it can do background rebuild. Otherwise, dont' use mirror. 3TB mirrors are huge long and slow to copy. Really think you need to worry about hardware drive failure, huh?
I've used SoftRAID from 2.2.1 days a decade ago. They support is one of if not the best I have had the pleasure to deal with and help me through as well as given me an education.

  • Apple 's new drivers for Canon printers

Apple has just released new drivers for Canon printers. I have an i9900 inkjet printer which is not listed in the supported printers. Will the driver work for me or am I out of luck?
    Thanks.

The driver update is supplied to Apple from Canon, who has made the decision to end support for the i9900. They actually ended support several versions previously.
So to print from Mavericks to the i9900 you can download and install Gutenprint v5.2.9 which lists the i9900 as a supported device.

  • ATI Radeon X1900 Xt Drivers for Leopard not yet provided

Still waiting For Apple to provide Leopard level drivers for the ATI Radeon X1900XT graphics card. Problems are documented as horizontal lines on display and include periods of lockups but only when running under Leopard. Graphics card has been cleaned and reset and re-installed according to manufacturers specifications. They conclude the required drivers to support this card can only come from Apple.
Backing off of Leopard is NOT an option. There are very few cards that fit this G5 (not a MacPro). I have never had this much trouble trying to get help. Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Drivers for 1022n

I recently upgraded to MAC OS X 10.10, and now my Laserjet 1022n keeps saying it isn't connected. I'm using driver 1.06 and am wondering if there is an update. The HP website lists drivers up through OS 10.9 Maverick, but nothing further.

    Hi @BARSTL ,
I understand that you are having a communication issue with the printer over the wireless network and a USB connection. I can help you.
Power cycle the router and restart the Mac.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:
    Close all applications.
On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.
Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.
    Restart the computer..
    Reset the Printing System:
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Click the Apple icon and then click System Preferences.
    Click Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system.
Then click the + sign to add the driver, highlight the printer. (you might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name) Then click on the Add button.
    Test the printer.
I checked online and the latest drivers to download are for 10.9. If you are still having issues, I would uninstall the 10.9 software and run the Apple Updates to install the drivers for 10.10.
    Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Connect the print to the Mac and run the Apple Updates.
Then go into Printers and Scanners and add the printer as a Bonjour printer. (network)
    Test the printer.
If the issue persists, download and install the HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X.
Please let me know the results.
    Have a great day!

  • Problems attaching RAID volume to Time Capsule USB

I just got an Icy Dock RAID enclosure and two discs to go with it. I want to attach it to my time capsule and use it as both a network disc and as another back up disc adding extra capacity to my Time Capsule.
I set the dip settings on the back of the enclosure (necessary or not I don't know) and plugged it directly into my laptop. I opened up Apple's disc utility and created a RAID volume. That new RAID volume mounted and I could even go into Time machine setup and see it as a choice for a backup volume. So far so good but I still want the connivence of my wireless backups.
So I ejected the enclosure and plugged it into the Time Capsule's USB connection. It didn't show up as a backup volume or as a network drive. Going into the disc tab of the Time Capsule setup utility I do see the two drives within the enclosure but have no option to erase them or mount them. They just show up as their raw selves as if I hadn't even initialized them into the raid partition.
Now if I dismount the enclosure and plug it back into my computer and break apart the raid volume into two separate discs and plug it back into the time capsule I see each of those appear both as a network volume and an option for backup.
Now of course I could use it that way but I'd prefer to have some redundancy that's why I got the enclosure in the first place. Any ideas how I can get the RAID volume to mount? Or somehow get redundancy using the two discs? If it requires command line instructions I'm OK with that I just don't have any idea of where to start.
    Thanks,
    peat

So just in case somebody else runs into this problem I wanted to post what I discovered. I had to reformat the drives I installed in the enclosure. Once I did that they were seen as separate drives by my computer and by the time capsule.
I did what I shouldn't have done which is use software to create a RAID drive. These software created RAID drives don't mount on the time capsule as the following thread notes.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9996146
What I should have done and eventually did do is format the drives correctly, set the dip switches for RAID 1, push the reset button on the back of the RAID enclosure and create a hardware RAID device. This hardware device now looks and feels like one drive. It mounts up as a network drive on the time capsule no problem.
Furthermore now that it's a visible network drive I can select it in time machine preferences and use it as my destination drive for time machine backups. It hasn't fully backed up yet but it certainly seems to be working so I think this would contradict the previous post. I am able to hang a drive off my time capsule and "extend" the capacity of my time capsule. I didn't copy over the sparse bundle file so time capsule's starting all over again but I suspect I could have copied it and continued with incremental backups.

  • Areca RAID card drivers for Leopard?

I cannot seem to find Leopard drivers for my Areca 1220ML RAID card. Areca support page has no new drivers since Tiger and though they list their product as supported under Leopard, there exists no drivers that I can find. Apple makes no mention of them on the driver support/download section either
    help!

I have an Areca 1220 (not ML) that I put into a 10.5.4 Macbook Pro system (via external PCIE) and it worked without having to do anything. The drivers were already present. I have since swapped out the 1220 SATA for a 1680 SAS and it, too, worked without needing any drivers. I guess the press release from Areca was true!

However, I did find a link to OS X drivers on the Areca site, which hopefully brings some assurance:

  • How Do I Install Apple Drivers For Windows XP?

Okay, so I have a 15 inch mid 2012 MacBook Pro that is running OS X Mavericks. After many attempts, I managed to install Windows XP 32 bit as a secondary operating system on the HDD using Disk Utility. The only devices that Windows XP recognised upon the installation were the keyboard and the trackpad. I then inserted a Snow Leopard disc to install the Apple Drivers for Windows XP and it appeared as though the drivers got installed(the Boot Camp icon appeared on the taskbar next to the digital clock). However, when I restarted windows, none of the devices other than the keyboard and the trackpad worked. Does this imply that the drivers didn't get installed? If so, why is this and how can I install the drivers? If the drivers did get installed, why aren't the devices working? Please help me out, if possible. Thanks in advance.

It does not work because you are running Mavericks and trying to use non-Mavericks drivers for an operating system (XP) that is not support on your hardware or your operating system.

  • Drivers for the Apple External Modem in 10.5

Hi all! I recently upgraded my system with Leopard. All seems to be great save for the fact I can't use the external Apple USB modem attached to my Macbook Pro. While I don't fax that much I do sometimes have to use it to receive faxes and such from others. Is there a driver update for this for Leopard? Thanks to all in advance for the help!
    Lance

The drivers for the Apple USB Modem are already installed along with Leopard..... I'm not sure why its not working.
Try opening up System Preferences - Network, and see if it shows up/if its enabled.
Other than that, I don't see why you should have any problems.

Lion should include the driver you need but since its not working lets try this:
Let's uninstall with the 'scrubber option' like this:
    1. Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller and click Continue
    2. Highlight your device on the left pane
    3. Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall
    4. There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
    5. Click Continue and let it finish
Now, run a Software Update. This can be done by clicking the Apple in the top left of the screen then clicking Software Updates.
Next, let's reset the printing system:
Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
    - Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Default tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Finally, download and install the software from here.
Let me know how this works for you!

  • Oracle Ent. Linux  drivers for HP Smart Array B110i Sata Raid Controller

Trying to install Oracle Ent. Linux (OEL) release 4 update 8 on HP DL 180 G6 server. Where we can find OEL drivers for the sata raid controller ?
(HP Smart Array B110i Sata Raid Controller)
    Thanks in advance.

The HP support side shows a Linux certification matrix at: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/hplinuxcert.html
From there you can also download the necessary drivers and instructions or use HP smartstart CD which prepares the system for the OS you need to install. Oracle Enterprise Linux is binary compatible with RHEL. You will need to click on "Archive" to see support for Enterprise Linux version 4 and older.

  • K9A2 Platinum not loading raid drivers sb600 or promise for raid 0

I am tired of trying by myself, hopefully you guys can help me out Ive been fighting this thing for 2days now and i hate this computer I'm on that feels like 28k dial up.
i know theres the promise plugs and the sb600, and i know they have different drivers. i also know that you have to disable the sb600 raid to get the promise working and vise versa *read the manual for that*. i set up the raid in raid configure *<alt-f>* and set it to raid 0 and assign the raid, and its fully functional.
the problem is when it comes to boot windows i hit f6 and then use the drivers i got off the cd...or website *two floppy's* and pick the i86 raid configuration *windows xp not 64, 64bit one is corrupted on both disks as well* it gets through that part, i format the drive *it sees in in raid in fast configure and in windows format, not in bios* and then go to install. it begins to install and stops on the first file FTT.inf, it apparently cannot read it, which is the same file on the disk if i am not mistaken. i have tried to install about 100times,if not more with different configurations in the bios.
the settings i have now for raid set up in the bios are:
    integrated peripherals
    extra raid controller enabled
in I/O devices on chip sata controller disabled *tried both enabled and disabled same problem*
it does not show drives in the sata ports but i figured that since it only shows 1-4 and the internal promise are the 5/6 ports.
i have formated and re-installed the drivers on the disks multiple times ive also tried the sb600 drivers disabling the extra raid controller in bios setting raid *it finds it in the 1/2 slots then 1 as raid* configured it in the raid set up as well but the same problem arises except its not FTT.inf its ahcix86.inf that errors. skipping the files *which is obvious  but i tried it just to see what would happen * causes blue screen on reboot and another error of the same type at 99% but .sys file this time.
i have installed windows on one drive and booted up using the same drivers was able to configure everything was slightly inclined to just say screw it 1 drive it is. but it was a shame since i bought them both to raid 0 em from the start. loaded windows up and even installed drivers.
i also heard that u need to do full format sometimes to get the raid to work if you have tried both raid drivers so i did slow fat format... no avail did it twice. and fast the rest. if you guys know of any boot-able type formating program that i could throw on a floppy disk that would be great too, if thats the case.
i am at a wall and frustrated as all hell with what Ive done so far hope u guys can help me out, tried to be as detailed as possible but i bet i missed something .

did all those settings. and have the newest and the disk version of the drivers.
do u guys really think that it not being able to find the driver file a power issue? either way i ll do anything at this point i rewired some stuff where the video card has its own rail and the hard drives have theirs with the cd-rom drive. took out my fan controler and really power hungry after market video card fan replaced with an old 60mm fan.
Error once again... ??? DAMN FTT3.inf file
edited: cause i sounded like an angry a$$hole with that first line :P
Stop swearing here! It's NOT allowed.
As for the floppy, goto the command prompt of a Windows machine, then type "format a:" and let the floppy format, if your floppy shows any error throw it away and try another.
    It's not uncommon floppies fail.
