Apple employee: Does AppleCare covers a short-lifed MBP battery?

If AppleCare does cover, to what extent ? for example, will apple replace my MBP battery for free if it drops to 80% of the original capacity, in one year? any restrictions on the replacement, such as 300 battery load cycles?
Thank you, i hope to see definitive answers!

You're not very likely to get an Apple employee to answer here, as these are user-to-user forums. (It does happen on rare occasion, but it truly is rare.)
From watching the notebook forums here for a few years, I'd say this: Apple is vague on this subject. Your best bet, if you feel your battery isn't working as it should now or some months down the road, is simply to call AppleCare and negotiate what you can. Reports vary, and your mileage may vary based on who you talk to and how you present your case. (You can at least change who you talk to if you're not satisfied with the initial answer. Ask to speak to a supervisor or, if necessary, to Apple Customer Relations if you feel you're not getting the warranty service you deserve.)
Sorry I can't give more definitive answers, but it's one of those issues that doesn't have a definitive answer, unfortunately. You'll get a variety of responses from people here, all reporting different experiences. Ultimately, the answer is simply, "Call Apple and find out."
All that said, if the situation is extreme and obviously points to a defective battery, such as only getting one hour of charge from a calibrated battery that is only a month old, you shouldn't have a problem getting it replaced under warranty. But your question of where Apple draws the line in less extreme cases is what can't really be answered by people here.

Apple recommends backing up the data when you're getting the battery replaced by them. So I assume that you will likely lose the data during this process.
Will the data on my iPhone be preserved?
No, during the service process all data on your iPhone will be erased. Before obtaining service, it is important to back up your data using iCloud or iTunes. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information while servicing your iPhone and does not offer any data transfer service. During service, Apple may exchange your iPhone with an iPhone that is new or equivalent to new in performance and reliability.
Following service, your iPhone may have a newer operating system (iOS) version and you will need torestore your data using the method used to back it up (iCloud or iTunes). As a result, you may also need to update your App Store applications to ensure compatibility with the newer iOS. If you experience a problem with an application purchased from the App Store, check to see if an update is available or contact the application vendor directly.

  • Does Mavericks have any effect on MBP battery life?

Does updating to Mavericks have any effect on the battery life of the MacBook Pro?

It's suppose to have a postive affect on battery life. At least that's what I'm seeing in comparison to OS X Mountain Lion (Macbook Pro Retina).
See Conclusion at the bottom of this PDF from Apple. You can also skim through the PDF to see how battery life is extended.

  • Apple Employees only--upgrading iBook hard drive, not under AppleCare

Does anyone know how much it would cost to upgrade my hard drive from 14 GB to maybe 30GB? Also if I can upgrade, would the workers at the Apple Store transfer the data I have on my old hard drive to my new one for free?
    Thanks
iBook G3   Mac OS X (10.1.x)   14 GB hard drive

Do you mean you only want responses from Apple Employees? If so, you are barking up the wrong tree, I'm afraid.
This is a user-to-user forum, hosted by Apple for its users to help one another.
If you have a local Apple Store, you could enquire there.
If you are interested in some resources outside Apple's auspices, there are several hard drive upgrade services:
    MacService
    DT & T Computer Services
    MCE Technologies
    Good luck.

  • What exactly does AppleCare cover for an iPhone4S?

I purchased AppleCare when I bought my iPhone 4s Last December (2011). I am wondering, what does this plan actually cover, when is it possible to get a new phone (for free? or less price)?

when is it possible to get a new phone (for free? or less price)?
Never, if by that you mean a newer model. AppleCare covers manufacturing defects, just as the original warranty did, so if your iPhone has a hardware problem during the AppleCare period, Apple will replace it with another unit of the same model and configuration.
    Regards.

  • Does AppleCare cover worn batteries?

Hi, I have a 2010 MacBook Air with the full AppleCare Protection.
The MacBook is working fine but the battery has started to wear out, this is not a factory defect or anything, it has just worn out over time (and yes, I do understand why and everything.)
Does my AppleCare Protection plan cover this, and if yes, would it cost or would it be fully covered?
    Thanks in advace!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
AppleCare doesn't cover worn out batteries. It only covers problems by factory defects

  • Why would an Apple employee LIE to me about a warranty that didn't exist?

I am so angry right now because over the last 5 years my husband and I along with our kids have consumed several Apple products including IPad's (3;64g), IPhone's (4; 2/4g), MacBook Pro (2), MacBook Air, IPod's (4; 2/32g 2/64g) and on all of our products we purchased the (claimed) insurance protection for every item. For the most part just about everything was purchased from Best Buy but after waiting weeks for the IPad 64g white to still not be available there I decide to go to my local Apple store where they had some available. So I go to make the purchase and the Apple employee suggest that I take advantage of the care plan "just incase anything goes wrong, it stops working, gets messed up or something,"I thought ok, cool so I make the purchase with the care plan that expires April 2013. It just so happens, about a year later I have an accident with my IPad and it cracks! So I figure ok, it's fine I have the care plan. Bull! I take it back to the Apple store where I purchased it and was told Apple didn't offer a warranty like that at the time of my purchase. So I pulled up my receipt and showed the employee and he said "oh, that's not a protection plan that's a care plan for like if you had any questions and needed assistance working or setting up your IPad. Seriously! Keep in mind I had the IPad 1 that I retired to my daughter and my husband had his iPad 2 so would I have purchased this plan for assistance on operating a new IPad? He then mentioned that they do offer a protection plan now but only for the "New IPad's". Really! So basically the previous Apple employee that assisted me in the purchase misled me into purchasing a product that I wouldn't have ever needed. If Apple pays a bonus for having a number of the care plans sold then that employee may have taken home a big fat check! I have called and complained about the situation but in reality nothing has been done or will ever get done about this issue. Is there anything other than a new purchase that could get my IPad fixed?

I have the same exact thing with Best Buy but it is through Best Buy for my other products so the information he was telling me sounded accurate. If anything was to happen with any of my purchased items with them, it is covered. Point blank and period.
You do not have the exact same thing with Best Buy. Once again, you are confusing insurance with Apple's AppleCare extended warranty.
That is Best Buy's insurance program which has nothing whatsoever to do with Apple's standard warranty or AppleCare extended warranty.
You misunderstood since you obviously don't know the difference between an extended warranty and insurance.

  • Does applecare cover ssd?

    Hi there.
I just bought macbook pro top of the range for my vmware labs. These are quite intensive in terms of IOs and SSD wearing.
So the first question is Does apple's warranty cover wearing of SSD drive?
the second question - Does AppleCare for Macbook Pro cover wearing of SSD drive?
I want to make sure I can run my labs as long as I need them without counting P/E cycles
    Thank you.

another thing I found in the applecare contract (http://www.apple.com/legal/sales-support/applecare/appmacapacen.html) under "Not covered section":
    (vi) Consumable parts, such as batteries, except in respect of battery coverage under APP for iPod or unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials and workmanship;
(viii) Defects caused by normal wear and tear or otherwise due to normal aging of the product.
I am afraid this mean SSD wear and tear isn't covered by Apple care.
Has anyone had any experience with SSD replacement/fix due to wearing?

  • Does applecare cover a replacement battery

Does applecare cover replacing the battery?  My iPhone 5 battery goes dead very quickly now and I am sure it needs replaced.

If your phone is still in warranty then a battery replacement is covered.
Even if it's out of warranty it may still be eligible for a free replacement through Apple's recent program:

  • Does applecare cover cracks

    does applecare cover cracks

Cracked screens are not covered by the standard AppleCareor the normal warranty. You will have to pay an out of warranty fee for screen replacement. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • Does AppleCare cover the battery?

I'm not sure if i should be posting this here but i don't know where i would...
My iPod will not turn on anymore, and i was thinking about buying AppleCare and have Apple fix it. I thought of the possibility that the battery in my iPod could be dead (it does not charge nor turn on), and i need to know if AppleCare covers the battery.

Yes, the battery should be covered. But first, did you try doing a reset on the iPod?
Put the hold switch to the OFF/White position. Now toggle it ON/orange then back off again. Then press and hold both the MENU and center buttons on the iPod and hold them for a good 15 seconds or so. Your iPod should reboot starting with the Apple Logo screen.
If it doesn't work the first time, give it a second or third go. Sometimes it takes a few tries.

  • HT1863 Does AppleCare cover screen damage?

Hi does anyone know if AppleCare covers screen damage?

ONLY Apple Care Plus covers accidental damage, which is how a broken/cracked screen is defined.
If you have apple care plus then you can take yours in, pay the service fee (I've seen $49 as the fee) and walk out with a replacement device (may or may not be refurbished). You are allowed 2 instances of accidental damage replacement.
If you don't have apple care plus then what you get is the out of wrranty replacement, the fee for that starts at 219 for a mini and 299+ for the newer ipads

  • Does AppleCare cover a broken screen( glass) on iPads?

Does AppleCare cover cracked screens on iPads

The standard 1-year Apple Care warranty only covers defects in materials and workmanship, not damage due to accidents.
Apple's Limited Warranty http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ for iPad excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.
    Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace (Apple doesn't repair) your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below. (The replacement will most likely be a refurbished iPad in a brown box, however, it has a new screen, back and battery.)
    iPad model
    Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
    iPad mini
    $219
    iPad 3rd, 4th generation
    $299
    iPad 2, iPad
    $249
A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax.
Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPad that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service. See http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad

  • Apple employee backup my phone before reloading the software.  When I checked my photos they were gone.  Is there a way to get the missing photos down loaded?

An Apple emplyee in a Seattle store backed up my phone data before clearing it and reloading the software.  He was trying to resolve a problem that I was having with the phone.  When I checked my photos I discovered that they were all gone.   Also lost a lot of new contacts.  It appears that only older data was restored.  Is there a way to find out if my photos are backed up any were?  As a note, I have had this problemsince I got the phone.  I bought it at Best Buy but they said that they could not fix the problem.  They told me to talk to the phone company.  AT&T looked at the phone and said that it was an Apple problem.  There is no Apple store where I live in southern Oregon so I had to wait until I got to Seattle to try and get it fixed.  Apparently on one owns the problem.  Its my problem to fix.  The next step is to get another phone.  Probably not from Apple.  That is my story and sany info would be appreciated.  Cathy

Thanks for the reply however this does not help.  When I check the cloud it shows that I have only 20 photos.  In reality I had a lot more than that.  All the photos on the cloud are those that I have taken since I was at the Apple store.  When I check cloud storage usage on my phone it says that I have 5.1 GB of photos.  This is a lot more than the 20 that I can see.  I am not sure what the Apple employee did to my phone.
Still looking for answers.  It is really too bad that I can not talk to an Apple person to get help since they messed up my phone.
