Apple express is not seen wirelessly by Airport setup or Itunes

I have been pulling my hair out. I have a windows PC with SP3 connected to the internet through a Verizon Fios Actiontc wireless router (WR).. The PC is only connected through ethernet and has no wireless card installed. I want to be able to use the airport express (AE) at the location of my audio equipment and play my itunes music through my stereo wirelessly. I have used this configuration in the past with great success.
I connected the AE to the WR through an ethernet cable to set it up.
I set the AE up to "join my wireless network"
I used WPA2 security and used exactly the same SSD and passwords as my WR. The WR is also set to WPA2
The AE joins the network and the AE connects to itunes and shows up in the Apple setup menu. Itunes plays music through my stereo. The indicator light is solid green
I remove the ethernet cable.
After a very short time, the AE drops off of the Apple setup menu and rescanning will not find it again. Itunes stops finding it. The indicator light remains solid green.
I check the WR settings and find that the AE is connected to the WR wirelessly. I confirm this with a succesful "ping" test.
Some things that I have tried;
I tried ALL security protocals that are availible to me WEP, WAP and WAP2 with the same results.
I have rebooted, used hard factory reset. Unplugged and replugged everything.
Disabled AVG Security 2013. Disabled the firewall.
I even bought a new (latest generation) airport express with the exact same results, although it appears that the newest generation is meant for Windows 7.
I have a wireless network printer on the netwok that always works.
I would appreciate any help. My only pupose for the AE is for it to communicate itunes wirelessly to my stereo from my PC, which is connected to the network by ethernet.

There's nothing wrong with temporarily using the ethernet cable to configure the device using AirPort Utility. Once you have the Express configured, you can disconnect the ethernet cable.
If you are intent on having AirPort Utility locate the Express using wireless only, you will probably need to do a factory default reset on the device.
Power down the Express
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug the Express back into power
Release the reset button after approximately 10 seconds.
Restart your computer, keep the Express near your router and computer and open AirPort Utility to see if it can see the device via wireless.

USB printer not seen wirelessly on Airport Express through Airport Extreme

Hey everyone,
I just bought an Airport extreme and a new Airport express for my house. I've got the Extreme in the basement where it is sending out wifi and directly plugged into a PS3 and the new Airport Express, which is 2 floors upstairs. The Express is upstairs In my office where it extends my wifi and also plugs into my iMac. I took the USB cable from the Samsung laser printer ('07 SCX-4521) from the back of the iMac and plugged it into the USB port on the Express so I could print wirelessly without having the iMac always on. I changed the settings on the iMac print preferences to now recognize the new location of the printer as being on the Airport Express. I tried to print a page from the iMac and had no problem, however I tried to print from my iPhone 4S and the printer wasn't even listed. I don't have the phone jailbroken, and all software on all machines and accessories are up to date, etc., so is there something obvious they I'm missing here? Can anyone help me out, please? The whole point of the Express was to allow me to print wirelessly and not have to move the printer to a bedroom in the basement.

Are you saying that the iPhone will print when the printer is connected to your iMac?
Or, will the iPhone not print when the printer is connected to your iMac?
The iPhone will not print when the printer is connected to the Airport Express.
Check this Apple support document to see if your printer is AirPrint compatible.

If you find that the printer is not on the list of compatible devices, simply connecting it to the AirPort Express will not make it AirPrint compatible.
This is what I was afraid of. I talked to 2-3 Apple employees in the store and they said that most printers that can be used when directly connected to the USB port of a MB Pro, iMac, etc., would also be compatible with the Airport Express and would in turn make the printer AirPrint compatible. Obviously they were totally wrong. The printer itself has to be Airprint compatible and there really is no documentation in the new Airport Express Setup Guide or on the webpage that states that. My printer isn't Airprint compatible, therefore the ability to use this as a network printer on the Airport Express is useless. My only option is to connect it directly to the iMac and keep the iMac running (which is what I wanted to avoid).
Thanks for your help. Hopefully Apple can just come out and say this on the Airport Express box or on the AE website, as I guarantee I'm not the only one who wanted this capability. Other than that, both the Extreme and Express work very well and are simple to use, but I think I'll be taking back the Express as the Extreme's range is great.

Firstly restart the AppleTV, secondly check the HDMI lead and if possible swap for another or another HDMI input - sounds as though AppleTV thinks the TV is not HDCP capable.

AirPort Express will not extend Wireless Network

Hello. My airport express will not extend my wireless network. It was green for about the first 4 hours and then I've had a flashing yellow light since that time. I've reset it a bunch of times and even have the AE in the same room as my AP Extreme. I complete the setup and then it continues to flash yellow. Can ayone give me a hand?

In the cases where the AirPort base stations would be interconnected by Ethernet you want to configure then for a roaming network, NOT an extended network. Apple uses the term "extended" when the base stations use wireless connection. Regardless of naming convention the end results is pretty much the same.
The link I provided should provide you with the necessary steps to set this type of network up.

Apple express does not appear in airport utility

I have an airport base station (extreme) that is already set up and working fine. However, we needed to extend it's range to a separate guest house so I purchased an Apple Express. When I initially attempted to set it up - I launched the Airport Utility window - it appeared and walked me through the set up. However, it now doesn't appear in the Airport utility window, nor is it functioning (not showing up on any of our computers). I attempted a reset several times but it no longer appears in the Airport Utility window. Any suggestions or ideas about what the problem is? Thanks.

Which version of AirPort Utility are you asking about here?
If you are not sure, open AirPort Utility and click on the AirPort Utility menu at the upper left corner of the screen.
Click About AirPort Utility and post back with that info.
In the meantime, move the the Express to the same room as the AirPort Extreme
Power up the Express and let it run a minute
Hold in the reset button for 9-10 seconds on the back of the Express and let it restart

AirPort Express - Can not connect to "extended" AirPort Express

Two trips to the Genius Bar tell me that I should be able to Extend my network from a new AirPort Express (n/g/b) to an older AirPort Express (b/g) using the "extend network feature". The two devices are communicating (both lights are green and the wireless channel will change on the remote device if I change it at the base station), but my MBP Core Duo 15" seems to only be connecting to the AirPort Express Base Station (n/g/b) and not to the Remote "extended" AirPort Express (b/g).
This forum seems to indicate that you can only use WDS between the newer AEX (n) and the older AEX (b/g) but the folks at the Apple Store have told me twice now not to use WDS. They said that as long as the two devices have green lights that it is working, but when I click on the Airport Symbol up in the menu bar w/the Option key it tells me the MAC address of the base station only - and when I get very far from the base station, the signal drops out even though the remote AEX is near by.
I did try setting it up using WDS and that works fine, just very slow.
Anyone know if there's a way to be sure that my MBP connects to the remote (extended) AirPort Express?

This is correct....since the older b/g Express does not even have a setting to "extend a wireless network".
If you require confirmation, open AirPort Utility, select the b/g Express, click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Now look at the available settings for Wireless Mode.
"Extend a wireless network" is not there.
but the folks at the Apple Store have told me twice now not to use WDS.
They are likely telling you not to use it because the performance on your network will drop dramatically if you do use WDS. Or, they mean well, but they are just wrong on this subject. Here's why:
The only way that you can use an older "g" and newer "n" device together to provide more wireless coverage is to configure both devices for WDS. It's a Catch 22.
WDS operates only at "g" wireless levels. So when you configure the newer "n" Express to operate as part of the WDS (which you must), it becomes a "g" wireless device. You lose any "n" capability on the network
Worse still, every "remote" or "relay" in a WDS setup cuts the bandwidth of the entire network in half...50%. That's huge. In effect, with WDS, you may have a bit more wireless coverage, but you will have a "g" wireless network that operates at half speed.

Your only option, (unless you add more hardware):
Configure both AX devices to "Participate in a WDS network" setting one up as a "main" and the other a "remote" . The big downside, as mentioned previously, is that you will have a "g" wireless network running at half speed.

My airport express is not connecting with my airport extreme base station. They are probably six years old. My IP address on my express shows 0.0.0.0

My Airport extreme and my airport express are not connecting together. I get an error message saying that my airport express software is not compatible with my Airport extreme and I have use them together for the past five or six years. It says I may need to change my IP address on my computer or something like that but I don't know what to do. the IP address on my express shows 0.0.0.0. Should everything be on the same IP address? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Please refer to the information already posted above:
If you see A1084 or A1088 there, your older Express is not supported by the newer version of AirPort Utility that you have.
If you have another Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard, or a PC, then you could use that computer to administer the older Express and it will work on the network along with the AirPort Extreme.
If the Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard or PC does not "see" the A1084 Express, you will need to "hard reset" the Express by holding in the reset button for 10 seconds and waiting a full minute for the Express to restart. Then, reconfigure the Express again.

You could try downloading and installing 7-Zip (free) and downloading a fresh copy of the iTunes installer, unpack the installer into its components using 7-Zip then try installing AppleApplicationSupport again. It may still fail to install but you may get more useful error messages as to why not.

PC will not Recognize Wireless Open Airport Express Network

I am trying to connect my computers to the Airport Express base station. Decided to upgrade the wireless internet router to n speed from g and the signal kept dropping. I've used an extreme and express at work set them up and have them running for both PC and Mac however, when i ran this express at home 2 MacBooks picked up the signal no problem however, the Dell PC did not. I disabled all firewalls on the PC, even made the network open with no encryption and still the PC did not recognize the device. It is not a range issue as i had the Dell 1 room away and even checked the selection for it to protect against device interference. The apple help told me to reboot and try everything i mentioned above. His final suggestion was to purchase a Mac, not really the solution i was looking for. Any help or further suggestions would be helpful thanks! I love Mac products and they just work so i am scratching my head over this one I am sure it is on the Dell side.

Yes you can use an All-in-One HP to do 'All' it's functions wirelessly... with an Ethernet Printer and Connection. (I believe HP calls them "Network Ready"). I am doing my HP 2500 series this way, and yes, it Scans too. It does depend on which printer port you use and how the printer responds. It's Ethernet Port works well, but the USB does not... tried both plugs with the Airport Extreme. Also, the Airport Express has both plug types, I'd use the Ethernet one.
Another thing, I had to enable "AppleTalk" with this printer to get through the barrier and have it scan. AppleTalk uses the 'same' language as the printer (or visa-versa???), and I believe this is the way HP is using to have more of it's printers usable with us Mac owners.
As the 6300 series is a small business printer, it should be Network Ready (and have an ethernet port on the printer) and be able to be done similar to my network ready 2500 series. But with two different series, I'm not sure how HP equipped yours... that is why it's nice to read up on all the stat's and work a rounds on their web-site.

Airport Express wil not extend wireless network via ethernet

I need maximum bandwidth in a area with poor signal. No matter what I do, the AE will not extend my APEBS dual band via ethernet. It will alway connect wirlessly giving me half the speed. I have 1 main network to extend. I have tried to extend the 5 GHz wide channel as a seperate network but this wont work either.(but thats what I want really. Please help. I have been at this a couple days already and I need to figure it out before my return policy wears out. Thanks!

If you are connecting the Airport Express to your AirPort Extreme via ethernet, the AirPort Express should be configured as follows:
Open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab just below the row of icons
Wireless Mode should be set to "Create a Wireless Network"
Wireless Network Name would be the exact name of the main network that the Extreme is creating, same security, password.
Radio Mode must be set the same as the main network on the Extreme
Channel should be set to be least 6 channels apart from the channel that the main network is using on the Extreme.
Click the Internet icon above and look for Connection Sharing at the bottom of the page. This should be set to "Off (Bridge Mode)".
Update to save settings.

HT4356 I got a new wireless modem. The HP 8600 no longer works and is not seen as an airport printer. The diagnostics on the printer say it is connected to the wireless.

Suddenly no wireless printing works. The printer is a HP 8600e and the wireless is turned on and the printer itself can connect to the network, but OSX no longer sees it as an airport printer and nothing prints. I've tried all the Apple support docs without success.

An old addage of troubleshooting is "First, fix what you most recently changed."
All the driver uninstall etc, was probably unnecessary.
Power cycle the router (wireless modem).
Power cycle the printer.
Now check that the printer is in the local subnet of the router.
(local subnet means router is something like 192.168.1.1, your computer is something like 192.168.1.2, and the printer is something like 192.168.1.3 - only the last part - 192.168.1.x - is allowed to be different).
Add the printer using the default printer browser window.
If this doesn't work, Reset Printing system and re-add.

I have an Airport Extreme serving as my wireless router with an external hard drive connected to it. I also have an Airport Express in another room connected to a stereo for Airplay. Neither can be found on the Airport Utility (v5.5.3), but wireless internet still works. This happens often, with both reappearing in Airport Utility for short amounts of time periodically. What's the deal? Both the Extreme and Express are less than 6 months old. It's a bit frustrating not getting tunes when you have everything set up right and not being able to use Time Machine consistently.
All recommendations appreciated.

The reason for that issue is the frequency (radio band) hopping of the station.
On your AP-Extreme
Enter the manual setup
Disable Guest Network if not desperately needed
Set a dedicated name for the 5GHz wireless (wireless -> wireless options)
Eventually change the radio mode (if no 802.11b/g systems in your home) to "only 802.11n (5GHz) - only 802.11n (2.4GHz)" by holding down the option key *alt* while clicking on the drop down.
On your Mac
Disable (switch off) wireless
Enter system configuration -> network -> wireless
Uncheck "Ask to join new networks"
Enter advanced options and check that your wireless name is in the first position of the list. If not, drag it with the mouse to the first position.
Click apply
Join your wireless again and try to connect to the 5GHz name (SSID) because the 5GHz will improve the connection speed of your Mac remarkably.
Eventually you might change the settings on the Express too.
Check the location of the AP-Extreme.
It should NOT be placed: On the floor, in a corner, behind furniture, near metal objects, life high voltage wire or cordless phone bases.
It should be placed: As high as possible (up on a shelf or ceiling mounted) with a maximum line of sight to all stations, even thru walls.
If your home situation allows that, try to use the 5GHz band only. If you own a iPhone this must use the 2.4GHz radio.

MacBook Air can not reconnect wirelessly to airport extreme with yosemite

I have the latest version of Yosemite (10.10.1), and have upgraded the Airport firmware. Using MacBookAir, mid 2011 version, I have trouble connecting finder to the network drive on Airport. I have to cycle wireless on/off to access. But, when using "save as" from Safari, it will not connect at all. It may connect after a shut down and start up, but if it goes into sleep mode or screen save, it will not connect at all (save as).
All this worked just fine before Yosemite, and works on my iMac w/o Yosemite too.
I think this might be a systemic Yosemite issue, but don't know how to connect with the AppleSupport Team for that product.

My apple tv gen 1 is not seen in the new version of itunes

Since upgrading to the latest version of itunes I have lost connection with my Apple TV and Airport Express Apple TV no longer shows in devices. Does anyone know how to fix this issue please

Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can sync it back afterwards, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.

Airport express does not see password protected airport network

When I try and password protect my Airport network, my Airport Express, set to join an existing network to play music on my stereo, can no longer see the network. I have my Airport Express plugged in via ethernet to configure it, and the Admin Utility shows a pop up menu for available networks to join, but this menu only shows my Airport network when password protection for the network is turned off. I never set my network to be hidden, so that's not the problem, and my laptop(s) can always see the Airprort network, regardless of password protection being enabled or not.
Supposedly you can select a password protected network for the Express to join and then it will prompt you to enter the password, but if it is not in the list then I can't select it. I can type in the network name, but again, it only joins if I turn off password protection for the network.
Is there a work around for this?

Your express will need to see the SSID in order to connect. I would suggest that you temporarily turn off the security (WPA2) on your D-Link router, make sure it is broadcasting the SSID, and then see if the express detects it. If the express doesn't see it, make sure some other device can.
You also might try changing the SSID, or turning it off and back on and see if that helps.
Once you can see it in the clear, add the security, and be sure to enter it in exactly, be careful of capitals,etc.
