Apple Finally responds to the Nano issues! NEW

Vice President of Apple, Phillip Schiller has said regarding cracked LCD's:
"This is a real but minor issue involving a vendor quality problem in a small number of units,” said Schiller. “In fact, this issue has affected less than 1/10 of 1 percent of the total iPod nano units that we’ve shipped. It is not a design issue.” Schiller said that if customers find they have this problem, all they have to do is contact AppleCare and their iPod will be replaced.
And regarding scratches:
Apple said that the screens on the iPod nano are made with the same material that is found in the company’s fourth-generation iPod, which, to date, is complaint free.
“If customers are concerned about scratching we suggest they use one of the many iPod nano cases to protect their iPod.”

Well I'm happy they've responded and cleared up the matter as to whether or not the materials are different from the other 21 million iPods they've sold.. They are not. The only difference is black shows the hairline scratches much more than white.
Better yet, they've isolated the cracked LCD to a manufacturing problem for less than 1% of units shipped and are replacing the broken units.
Now, we can say goodbye to this madness and Apple can get back to selling millions and millions of these things.
Oh yeah, get a case!

  • When will apple finally fix all the email issues for everyone? Mine is dead

I have read all of the answers to problems and have tried every solution posted and my account email is still acting like is uploading and updating but nothing comes up on the screen. I noticed that a lot of people here has some type of issue with emails which it happens to be at least for me one of the main reasons to buy the iphone (besides how cool it is)
Would apple realize all this issues and help us all to get functionality in the emails? Or there is somebody in this discussion that still have some tricks up their sleeve? I'll take every help i can get, right now I'm the joke of the office as everybody else have Treos and get their email working fine. Its frustrating and frankly the iphone beats the other phones hands down but it wont work!!!!!!!
    Help !!!!!!!

    Zapallin,
Much of what we have to work with is the email servers and settings that your email provider requires.
What type of email account are you accessing?
Do you notice the same behavior on Wi-Fi and EDGE both?
Is this your own account, a work account with an Exchange server, or a domain that you have hosted somewhere?
This article discusses, including an explanation why in the footnote, some of hte issues with sending email:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305634
This article discusses setting up an account to access an Exchange server, such as in an office environment:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305883
The note at the top mentions IMAP must be enabled on the Exchange server. In addition many workplaces put their Exchange server behind a firewall, and need to allow access past the firewall either by opening ports up, or via VPN for the Exchange server to work for users outside of the company network.
Hope this helps, and I will try to help further when we have more information about your specific email setup.
    Nathan C.

  • How many thousands of Apple TV users have to scream their complaints before Apple will respond to the fury over the impossibly slow download speeds of movies bought through iTunes??????

How many thousands of Apple TV users have to scream their complaints before Apple will respond to the fury over the impossibly slow download speeds of movies bought through iTunes?

As jules says, your rate (currently at least) may be slow.
If it used to be good I wonder is your ISP is slowing ('throttling') your speed after you've used so many GB of a quota each day or month - check what they think you should be getting as a download speed.
While Apple's servers do occasionally play up, it's generally the ISP being slow not Apple.
If you're using Google's DNS servers that has caused issues for some.
Recommended speeds for near instant playback:
    SD         2.5Mbps
    720p      6 Mbps
    1080p    8 Mbps
Is your speed test from somewhere like speedtest.net?
It might be helpful to post Mbps to ensure we/you are not confusing speeds by using different units to those measured.

  • How do we get Apple to respond to the CD burning problem?

How do we get Apple's answer to the problem so many of us are having burning CDs?

Apple responds to problems with their software though KnowledgeBase articles and/or software updates. Except on very, very rare occasions, Apple tech support people will not respond in the Discussions forums. If you want to communicate with Apple tech support directly, you would have to call their tech support forum (the call will not be free).
Have you seen this KB article?
iTunes for Windows: Additional troubleshooting for burning issues
It may not help, but if you haven't seen that article, it's worth a look.
You might also try as a temporary test disconnecting the Lite-On drive and setting the Samsung as master and then see if you can successfully burn from iTunes.
    Regards.

  • TS4009 My new apple iPhone 5 and my new ipad will not backup to iCloud. Call support and have another call, as apple can not identify the. Issue? Any suggestions??

Can not backup to iCloud on new iPhone 5 or my new ipad. So far apple can locate problem . Any ideas.

I am logged into Icloud on both devices.  There is plenty of storage.  My Iphone5 has never backed up automatically or manually.  It is plugged in and on Wifi.  The message is always backup did not complete.  My new ipad backed up once on 10/29/12 and does exactly the same thing as my phone.  If you start the backup manually it stops after 10-20 minutes and says did not complete back up.  I have made sure my login password is the same on both devices....I was bumped up a level last night on Apple Support call and she could not figure it out.  We have another call tonight.  So far I have no backup of my contacts and do not know what the issue is.

  • Apple final nail in the coffin for professional editing

Continually discontinuing programs (end of FCP, DVD studion pro, Livetype etc) , ommting peripherals on new machines.. (NO FIREWIRE, NO DVD DRIVE on new imacs) , not selling the Mac pro anymore..and replacing them with expensive 'upgrades' (thunderbolt) making life very hard & expensive for those who have bought previous drives/output devices/software  that works well.
I recently shelled out just shy of £2k on a new Imac.. doowh why did i do that.. No dvd drive so I cannot load my programs, have to buy one, Thunderbolt is good in say 5 years but not yet, at least give me 1 Firewire port please! Then I realise that loads of my programs will not run, as they are PowerPC programs, they are not supporting Rossetta.. so I am buggered..
Luckliy I have Avid anyway... at least there software is backward compatible and they dont conn you into buying new kit and then a few years later it wont load on your expensive new shiny computer unbelievably money grabbing in my book..

If the cost to upgrade your software is really an issue, one would have to question your self-designation as a professional.
But in any event, even as a hobbyiest, you can run your PowerPC software in Mountain Lion by installing Snow Leopard Server into Parallels 8:
Apple is now selling Snow Leopard Server for $19.99 + sales tax & shipping costs at 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753) - Apple Part Number: MC588Z/A (telephone orders only).

  • The reason for Apple's silence on the whine issue (my theory)

As you get older , your ability to hear high pitched noises diminishes. This is a well documented fact, and if you don't believe me go here:
    http://www.diyhappy.com/bug-some-of-them-darn-teenagers-or-create-an-adult-proof -ringtone/
listen to the sound and read the comments. (Note: The macbook pro speakers don't seem to be able to reproduce the high frequencies, but I can hear the noise with my desk speakers). YMMV.
Some stores in Europe play this sound over speakers to keep the kids away. It's so annoying it feels like your brain is being fried. However, old people don't even notice and go about their shopping as if nothing was happening.
Although the pitch is slightly higher in the recording mentioned above, perhaps the apple engineers are simply old and can't hear the noise. I know I can hear it - it drives me absolutely nuts. I have to run that "quiet macbookpro" program to get rid of it, eating into my CPU cycles and battery life. This is **** poor service from Apple in my opinion.
The worst thing about it is that this all seems to point to an issue that can be fixed via software. It's a simple matter of tuning the throttling software a bit to fix the noise. It boggles my mind why apple wouldn't simply release a patch to fix this once and for all.
Anyway, what do you guys think of my theory? The Mac bar "geniuses" might all have poor hearing too.

Interesting theory, but it has flaws.
First off, the Genius Bar employees are frequently not much older than high school graduates where I live. If you want to ensure they can hear it, ask them to find a quiet room in the store. Mind you, the problem of asking the Genius Bar employees to hear a high pitched sound after working in such loud music, is they are already probably partially deaf from being exposed to the loud music in the store, and will be for some time until they are out of the exposure of that loud music. The store I go to is never quiet, but who knows if they have a sound proof room in back. Ambient noises can obscure sounds like those too. I would call AppleCare and ask to have the machine mailed to their service center with specific instructions to take the machine into a sound proof room by someone whose hearing has not been compromised. Perhaps even include a printed page of the website and tape it to the MacBook or MacBook Pros when you send it in.

  • TS4496 Is apple working to solve the tethering issue for the Canon 6D?

Aperture is not detecting my Canon 6D for tethering.  Is there a solution in sight?

We don't know. Send feedback to Apple:

As a workaround you can use the supplied Canon Software.

  • Will Apple ever consider updating the Nano to accept wifi and add other settings like iTunes or some other apps?

Probably not since they offer the iPod Touch, but you can voice your opinion here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodnano.html

  • Apple finally cleared up the self-installation of RAM

It turns out that I can install RAM myself without voiding the warranty. So, what's brand(s) should I go with? I don't want to pay $600 obviously, or I'd go with Apple's RAM. I'd like to stay under $350 (which seems to leave plenty of room for the higher cost hardware), but don't want to trade quality for savings. QUALITY is necessary, but savings would be nice. Also, does anyone know of a decent quality ESD grounding unit to use.? This is only going to be used for swapping the memory, so it doesn't have to be high-end.

While you don't reaaly need a device to get your electro static discharge sorted here is cheap one anyway:
    http://www.specialized.net/Specialized/Ideal-STATGARD-ESD-Grounding-Plug-3741.as px
I have forgotten how many ram's I have changed and have never used one nor have I burnt a ram module for that matter..just make sure you touch a metal water tap or something like that to get the charge of yourself if any before touching the rams ..Unplug your machine and remove it's battery if you can .Press it's power button shortly to short the power circuit and get any charge off of there as well .
And for the rams if you mention how big and what kind of a setup you are after I might be of more help ..for example 2 x 2 GB DDR3 1066 etc ...
Also specifying for which machine they are intended will certainly help

  • Finally: iLounge review the nano tubes

Almost 2 months after the iPod nano tubes were 'launched', iLounge have put together an in depth review at Apples Official form of nano protection.

Thank you for that! Not too many people request that I play at work!
I would say it's about 90% as easy. It's completely as easy to move the wheel, but pretty darn close. Close enough that it doesn't take away from the fun of it.
The responsiveness was something I was wondering (and concerned) about as well. But, after a little getting used to, and I mean just a little...you'll adjust very quickly. Its not the exact same experience, but as close as I would ever expect.
HTH Nathan. I got lost in the game for a while!

  • Why does Apple not respond to the PB 15" displayproblem?

If it's as big a problem as it seems to be, why doesn't Apple say anything about it?
They must have received MANY complaints?
And it even looks like their holding back Powerbooks now..
    ?

"why doesn't Apple say anything about it?"
How are we supposed to know? We don't work for Apple. Be patient.

  • How can I show the name in the list of new messages rather than the address

I have noticed something weird in Apple mail. In the list of new messages, the FROM field sometimes shows the email address rather than the name of the sender (even if that sender is in my address book). Because of this, when I search for some users, I can search by name but for others I must search by email address. However, in the FROM field when I actually open the message, the full name is always in the field rather than the email address (if the contact is in my address book at least).
Here's a screenshot that illustrates what I am talking about.
    http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/8126/applemail.jpg
(notice that in the message list it says from [email protected] but in the message view below, it says from Tony XXXX
My question is: Is there any way to display the actual name in the FROM field in the list of new messages rather than the email address, in the same way it is displayed when I actually open the message? I can't seem to find any settings that fix this.

    Yup, no longer an option.

Jim Level 5 person ....I am very happy for you that your usage will not be affected, please accept my  congratulations.
Now I have to point out that going ballistic has certain connotations but posting on an internet forum is not one of them.
I appear to be one of thousands who are all expressing their outrage in a rational and intelligent manner which cannot be said for your lebvel 4 + collegues on this forum.
Finally there has been an ongoing issue wiith the iPad 3 Wifi on certain wifi only models , I have not encountered it and it seems clear neither have you. That of course does not discount the fact that many others have experienced this issue , an issue which may reveal itself to you or I in the future particularly as I have only been using mine for a fortnight.
