Apple firewall alert

Hi, I was watching an anime show on one of my usual sites, animefreak. Out of nowhere I got redirected with this pop up, I did not call the number as I could not find the number on the apple site for support. Especially with all the popup windows about false numbers. So i need some help, has anyone had this pop up before? Is my computer really infected?, if so any suggestions on how to proceed?
It says;
apple-firewall-alert
computer adware/ spyware virus
1-877-848-6792
Picture provided, Please help, not sure how to proceed.
I heard of some kind of USB that connects and removes this kind of stuff, but can not remember the name

Wow....please don't flame the village idiot (me).  The pop-up I received was very similar to this; however, it had much more Apple branding and appeared more legitimate than this one shown above.  I actually called the number and the gentleman on the phone claimed to be Apple Support and used a "logmein123" session and a terminal command to show me "koobface found" in some log.  He then proceeded to convince me that I needed to have an "Anti-Hack Network Technician, Level 6".  Never heard of it.  $439 to take care of all computers, tablets, and smartphones (numerous).
I started to smell a rat and grabbed my wife's laptop and found this thread.  I then terminated the call and the remote session with this person.
My computer sits behind a Time Capsule with encryption, and that sits behind a Cable Modem.
After restarting my laptop, everything appears to be in order, but do I need to consult with someone to have my laptop examined, just to make sure that nothing was obtained somehow during this remote session.
Thank you for any advice you can offer.

    When I got on Safari I got a warning that my apple firewall has crashed. It said to call Apple Support at 1-855-582-0026.  Is this a valid tech # or am I being scammed?

    The same thing just happened to me. I almost fell for it. Why did this message appear in Safari in the first place and should any precautions be taken?

  • Help needed with the Apple firewall.

    Back before I upgraded to Leopard when I set the firewall to stealth and then had grc.com scan my iMac G5 - well it was invisible according to grc. Fully stealthed. Now when I do the same thing it shows that ports 135-139, 445 and 593 are slealthed, and 548 is OPEN! Everything else is just closed. It tells me that it not only receives pings, but it also ANSWERS them.
    I've tried changing the settings on the firewall then restarting the computer but that makes no difference to grc. I sent com.apple.alf.plist to the trash but that made no difference either. I even tried using Brickhouse and Noobroof with no help, which is understandable since they are just new front ends for the Apple firewall.
    I have Pacifist, so I guess I could just reinstall the firewall files but I don't know what to install.
    This bird is not sleeping it's DEAD! It just feels broken since nothing I do changes it's functioning.
    Can anyone suggest a way out of this mess. Right now I'm feeling very exposed and I'd love to have my old firewall back.

    Hello
    Using the method suggested by Aron:
    prha.creation_date >= :start_date
    AND
    prha.creation_date < :start_date + 1Oracle will be able to use any indexes present on creation_date. Using the TRUNC(prha.creation_date) method, oracle will only be able to use an index if it is a function based index using TRUNC. Also, the bind variable data types should be of the date data type and if they are not, then the TO_DATE function should be used, but the TO_DATE function does not need to be and should not be used on a date data type.
    prha.creation_date >= TO_DATE(:start_date,'MM/DD/YYYY')
    AND
    prha.creation_date < TO_DATE(:start_date,'MM/DD/YYYY') + 1HTH

  • Apple firewall askt every time for network acsecc KAV (kaspersky)

    I use kaspersky for mac with my iMAC. During start up i receive a massage: the program KAV will get income Network (firewall massage) Agree oder disagree... When I press agree the apple-firewall should save the permission
    When i start my Mac the next time the same firewall-question is on my screen!
    How can I solve that problem?

    I agree that, for a knowledgeable and careful person in sole control of his/her Mac, it's extremely unlikely for AV software to be needed in any way, and is thus "unnecessary medicine."
    However, I've encountered a few people this year who somehow got malware (verified with ClamXav) and didn't know how. One in particular had RSPlug... he was quite willing to talk and not offended by the (carefully worded) question about whether pirated software or video plugins from p0rn sites were involved (they weren't). In his case, either he got one of the variants of RSPlug that aren't overtly questionable or his teenage son did something and wouldn't admit to it. What would you suggest I tell people like this? Education can't always be the cure because of things like those rare RSPlug variants and because of disobedient teenagers.
    Also, note that ClamXav is quite well-behaved and only scans when and what you tell it to. If you say that AV software is harmful, I'd have to say you haven't actually tried that one.

  • IPhone Message: apple virus alerts

    After installing the app downloaded from the itunes store:
         instamag-magazine collage  (version 2.0;  developer:  fotoable, Inc)
    When selecting from the app the icons corresponding to messages (envelope) and configuration, it open a windows in safari and after automatically jumping through what it seems ads pages and finally redirects to the page "appstore-service.com", then iphone gives the message "apple virus alert" (with sound).
    Is this a case of a virus?
    Is the app developer breaking the rules of apple?
    Please try to act and avoid this anoying situations like the one with the app I mention above (I think apple should try to if they aprove the apps before putting them in the store).
    Have any other seen / suffered this issue?

    No.  Contact the App's developer for support.

  • Ipfw vesus apple firewall.

    Are apple firewall and ipfw the same? If not, what is the difference disregarding ease of use! Thanks for the help!
    Alex

    Apple's firewall in the System Preferences is really just a GUI (graphical user interface) for ipfw. In OS X, ipfw is always running unless you take specific actions for it not to start when you boot your computer. If the "Apple Firewall" is turned off, ipfw still is running, but it has only one rule -- allow anything in and out. That is not quite as bad as it sounds. Even though you allow all internet traffic into your computer, all services such as Personal File Sharing are turned off by default. There will be no response from these services. Your computer will respond that a certain port exists on your computer, but that it is closed. No entry allowed. When you turn on the firewall in System Preferences you add other rules to ipfw to specifically block any response about a port being present, or you may open certain ports by turning on the service.
    There are other GUIs for ipfw such as BrickHouse. These third party GUIs can help the user make more sophisticated rules that aren't available through Apple's GUI.

  • Router Firewall & Apple Firewall ~ Do I need both?

    Hi.
    Someone 'here' (somewhere on 'Discussions', can't remember where) mentioned that there is no need to have a router firewall & the Apple FW on together. Why is that? Does the router FW just make the Apple FW redundant or do they clash with each other? Is there any advantage to turning off the Apple FW given that the router firewall is on 24/7?
    Sorry, lots of questions...
    Thanks in advance.
    Adrian

    Nobody can tell you if you need both... it all depends on your needs, risk tolerance, value of data, what services you have enabled, and also the setup of your LAN.
    You can run both a router/firewall and your computer's firewall- and it's not a bad idea to do this. There are no issues with them clashing.
    Here's one reason you may also want to run the software firewall
    - If a computer on your LAN is compromised, this comprimised system is behind your router/firewall and could carry out automated attacks on your lan or even be manually controlled by another person. The only thing standing between the compromised computer and your computer is the software firewall.

  • Apple Firewall vs. ?

    Just curious, is the built in firewall on the mac good enough, or should I invest in 3rd party software. If I should go with 3rd party, is there something better than Norton? I keep hearing Norton causes problems. And I should have to worry about anti-virus, right?

    Well, if you think you do need more, and they're better than Norton imho...
    ClamXAV, free Virus scanner...

  • Apple FIrewall NOT logging

    The builtin firewall has quit logging on my mac - it used to log all types of attempts, as it should, but it has totally stopped.
    I've called apple. I've done an archive and install. I've done an erase and install.
    Yet... nothing will make this firewall log.
    The firewall is enabled. No sharing services are turned on. Under the advanced mode of the firewall tab, the option to enable firewall log is selected.
    Has anyone ever heard of this problem, or does anyone have any idea how to fix?
    The firewall used to log all the time, every few minutes, so I know the absence of any logs at all is not normal behavoir.

    Has the log limit been exceeded? From man ipfw
    <pre>
    log [logamount number]
    If the kernel was compiled with IPFIREWALL_VERBOSE, then when a
    packet matches a rule with the log keyword a message will be
    logged to syslogd(8) with a LOG_AUTHPRIV facility. Note: by
    default, they are appended to the /var/log/system.log file (see
    syslog.conf(5)). If the kernel was compiled with the
    IPFIREWALLVERBOSELIMIT option, then by default logging will
    cease after the number of packets specified by the option are
    received for that particular chain entry, and
    net.inet.ip.fw.verbose_limit will be set to that number. How-
    ever, if logamount number is used, that number will be the log-
    ging limit rather than net.inet.ip.fw.verbose_limit, where the
    value ``0'' removes the logging limit. Logging may then be re-
    enabled by clearing the logging counter or the packet counter for
    that entry.
    Console logging and the log limit are adjustable dynamically
    through the sysctl(8) interface in the MIB base of
    net.inet.ip.fw.
    </pre>
    So, what does sysctl -a net.inet.ip.fw show?

  • Apple Mail Alert help, please

    I have Rules that direct new mail into various mailboxes, but I can't see where the messages go after they arrive. Is there a way to get the mailbox label to flash, or change color, or for the box to open, etc., that will direct my attention to it?
    Thanks, Doug

    Doug,
    As I understand your question, no, there is no alert EXCEPT the notice of Unread messages in a mailbox. I use such Rules, and simply look for the number of Unread messages beside my mailboxes, in the Sidebar. Of course, if you have a lot of mailboxes, you may have to scroll down.
    Have I misunderstood?

  • I received an Apple Security Alert and downloaded it

    before we realized it was a SCAM. The download said decompression failed. Is my computer contaminated or is it ok?

    It doesn't sound like it's installed.  Take a look at Thomas' article on these scams.  They're all the same some altered slightly.

  • How to create mcx to force to disable firewall apple

    Hi hello
    I have customized one master with the apple firewall enable,
    Now i need disable this option, but i want do that directly with the mcx by the workgroup manager
    thanks for you reply

    If your requirement is that users should change their password for the first time ever they login to the database ( in other words, they should choose their own password ),
    you should expire users password immediately after creation:
    create user <username> identified by <pwd>;
    alter user <username> password expire;
    They will be prompted to change the initial password.

  • Batch Monitor and the Mac OS X Firewall

    This is more or less what people have been saying for a few years now, "When I use Compressor the Mac OS X firewall repeatedly asks permission to allow incoming connections for the Batch Monitor! Why?!?!"
    No matter how many times you click to approve or deny, the firewall alert reappears every five to twenty seconds. There seem to be many, many people with this problem. So far, the only solutions are to:
    1) Shut off the Mac OS firewall
    2) Switch the Mac OS firewall to "Allow only essential services" every time I want to use Compressor (a cumbersome solution at best)
    2) Keep clicking the buttons
    3) Don't use Compressor
    While some might argue that Compressor is a poor substitute for a real video conversion utility, for the vast majority of users, it's the only game in town.
    So, dear Apple, I humbly beg you on behalf of the literally thousands of users who deal with this problem, please either create a solution or suggest one.
    I'm still on Final Cut 6 and Compressor 3. So, if anyone knows that the latest release solves this issue, I'd love to hear it.

    I'm dealing with this same problem and have actually noted that you are confirmed about the YEARS because I found this problem posted December 6, 2007
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6563672
    It's unfortunate that a 'Bad Taste' was left after that reply from the guy who called you a 'nitwit' - I didn't even pay attention to his name - at least you have one demiankz - and took the time to start this post. I humbly thank you.
    At any rate, I was determined to find out - because I have always been struggling to 'Allow' it and last night I decided to 'block' it.
    Does anyone know what is the right setting?
    Also - one work around that has been working for me is this:
    1) when the popup comes up (leave it up) - Open the firewall, unlock the settings padlock at the bottom left (if it is locked) -
    2) find batch monitor and whatever the setting is - force a toggle i.e. if it is "allow" select "block" and visa versa - back to whatever you desire it to be. Just to force it to recognize you are changing it.
    3) NOW answer the popup to match whatever you toggled to in the firewall.
    4) lock the padlock again.
    I've compressed a lot of jobs and I notice once I perform this it goes away for my entire job, provided I leave it alone until it finishes.
    If you do something like browse the internet or work on other things, the message tends to pop up again.
    Of course, after your job finishes, you will have to do this again - and that's why I wish people would keep responding to this post until we get an answer.
    Persistence causes results. Negativity just causes - well, just ignore that.
    At least attempt to be helpful, which I felt I have tried. It may work, it may not, or it may cause someone to recognize what the real problem is.
    Good luck and hope we get an answer soon!
