Apple: Fix Defaults for Sort Preferences!

I've looked over the many posts dealing with Snow Leopard's inability to retain sort preferences in Mail. In Tiger, mail would remember that I want to sort incoming messages by date received, but in Snow Leopard the result is always subject (which is stupid because lots of folks leave the subject field blank anyway!). With phone support from Apple I reloaded mail and mail preferences in Library, and it worked with my preferred defaults until I shut down. On restart, it was back to sorting by subject. Apple, are you listening? Please fix this mess. I miss Tiger already.

Hello again:
There is definitely something peculiar. That preference file should be there. Incidentally, although there may be other posts on the same issue, do not assume the problem is widespread. This place is like a hospital. If you visit a hospital, it would be easy to assume that everyone in the world is sick. I am not suggesting you do not have a problem - only that it is not affecting everyone.
As an aside, Mail worked (the way you want) in OS X 10.5 as well.
I do not know what you have done (from Apple's direction), but if I were you (I am not), I would reinstall OS X 10.6 (upgrade method) over your existing system. Then you would run software update to bring everything up to speed. Reinstalling the Mail application will not correct other things that might have gone wrong with your move to OS X 10.6.

If you live near an Apple Store make an Genius Bar appointment.  Tell them the truth and if the Genius likes you for doing that they MAY be able to sort it for free.  (The Apple Genius Bar We're Awesome Policy).  If not it will be an out of warranty charge of £80 to £150 depending on the size of memory.

  • My Late 09 Macbook has a loose video cable. Will Apple fix it for free?

The screen randomly freezes up unless I push the screen slightly forwards or backwards. I'm assuming that this is due to a loose video cable. Will Apple fix it for free? I've tried disassembling it but I can't seem to locate the right screwdriver for some of the screws.

And even if it was in warranty, disassmbling it may have voided it.

They might be able to. If it's an iPad 2 then it is still within the warranty period, so as long as it's due to accidental damage it might be fixed/replaced free of charge. Have you tried contacting Apple ? I don't know what country you are in, and whether you are near an Apple store, but you could try looking on this page for your service options.
Before you do that you could try a reset and see if it that helps : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons (assuming that it works) for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • If my home button or lock button is broke will apple fix it for free, even with other things wrong with it?

If it is still under warranty, Apple reserves the right to either repair or replace with comparable item...take it to an Apple genius bar, have them examine it and see what they decide to do.

    Hey BlueEyedDude,
Thanks for the question. I’m sorry to hear about your iPod nano! If you believe you have isolated the issue completely to hardware, you can learn more about servicing your device at the following link:

If you do decide to service your device, you’ll want to make sure all of the music and information is backed up. If you regularly sync your device with a computer, this music should be on the computer. If not, you can learn about what purchases you can transfer from the iPod to a computer:
iTunes Store: Transfer purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer

Don't get your hopes up.  It has already been stated that Apple does not cover accidental damages.  You can place a claim with your homeowners insurance as they do cover accidental damages.

  • Sleep/lock button has broke, will Apple fix this?

So my lock/power/sleep button has decided to break. I cannot get it to work no matter how hard I press on the button.
It has NOT been dropped, exposed to water or humdity of any kind.
My question is, will Apple fix this for me or replace my iPhone 4? I have scheduled an appointment at the closest store for Monday as it was the earliest I could be seen and I am still under warranty.
Many thanks for any potential help.

Thank you for your help, it is definitely under warranty as I used the online checker and I only bought it January.
I will ensure that I back it up before I go, would it be wiser to delete my content off the phone as well?

  • Cracked iPod touch 4th gen screen, will apple repair it for free? Ive had it 4months

My boyfriend bought me the latest iPod touch for Christmas 2011. I've had it 4 months, yesterday I put it on the coffee table round my mates and my mate accidentally knocked it off (table was no higher than half a metre), when I picked it up I realised there is a crack in the screen. I know apple give you a year warrantee on all iPods but my boyfriend never bought the extended warrantee. As I've only had my iPod touch 4 months will apple fix it for free or will I have to pay? Also how long does it take to get repaired?

It is not covered by warranty.  However, sometimes if you make an appointment at the Genisu Gar of an Apple store the Genius will exchange it at no cost. Otherwise the exchange price is:
Apple - Support - iPod - Repair pricing
Apple exchanges iPods and does not repair yours so if yu go to an Apple store they will exchange it on the spot.

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.
