APPLE FIX THIS PROBLEM

IT IS NOT OK TO DISABLE EVERYONE'S EXISTING PHONE SERVICE!
I am receiving emails from my kids saying they have no phone service and as a result do not feel safe in the event of emergency. As a result I have to leave work early. TURNING OFF EXISTING PHONE SERVICE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.

AGREED!!!   I "think" I downloaded the 2.0 software successfully, possibly installed as well but have no idea!  My iphone screen indicates to connect to itunes, but itunes keeps saying it can't connect to the server. I updated itunes, restarted my computer several times, unplugged the phone, reset the phone.....can't do anything.  I reset the sync history after trying to roll back to previous sync, and nothing.  My iphone page in itunes is blank with iphone logo in the middle of the screen.  I am so aggravated and angry.  My phone has no service and I can't do a thing to restore, reset, roll back or fix.
If this is due to high server traffic, which I assume it is, that is really unacceptable.  Apple has been dangling this release for months, along with the new 3G release.  I'm sure thousands of people are trying to activate their new phones, it makes sense to allow existing customers update the new software a day or two ahead of the new 3G release to avoid this.
Anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?  I need my friggin phone!
