Apple Forced iOS7 update on my iPad2 !

Apple has forced the iOS7 update file onto my iPAD2 and this update is sitting in the "other" folder indicated by the yellow bar in iTunes. I never wanted to upgrade - how do I get rid of this 2.3 GB file that has eaten away my iPAD capacity? This is very frustrating as I had spent a lot of time cleaning my iPAD to free up some space and now this !

Apple is indeed automatically pushing (to some, but not all devices) the iOS 7 update. My iPad mini got it somewhere between Sept 18 (iOS 7 release date) & Sept 20. I had NO access and did NOT use that device until Sept 20 where the auto-pushed download was already loaded and waiting to be run. The device was however on the charger and connected to the internet via Wi-Fi. For many reasons, I don't wish to update to iOS 7 on any of my devices yet so this auto-pushed update remains on the iPad mini, using ~1.2 GB - 1.5 GB with *no way to remove it*, except by running it and updating it. Note that the update is only auto-pushed to the device but it's up to the user to push the "Install" button that appears and replaces the "Download & Install" button. Restoring the iDevice as new will remove the file off the iDevice, but *only temporarily*. The minute the iDevice is connected to external power (either via connection to the PC or via the wall charger) and has a solid Wi-Fi (in my case) internet connection, the download is again auto-pushed to the iDevice. I know for a fact that the update is sitting on the device because I kept track of what exactly was installed to it after it was restored as new. I knew the exact size of "Other" and when this download was auto-pushed to the device, "Other" grew to the above stated ~1.2 GB - ~1.5 GB.
It is also NOT being pushed to all devices...I have multiple devices:
iPhone 5, iPad mini, iPad 3 & iPad 4 and the only device that it was auto-pushed to (for reasons unknown to me) is the iPad mini. Auto update has always been disabled on ALL devices, both on the devices themselves and in iTunes (but of course, none of the auto-update settings apply to OTA updates).
There is a CNET article on it here:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-57604701-37/ios-6-holdouts-complain-about-larg e-unwanted-ios-7-download/
There is also discussion of it here at the Apple forums where out very own "KiltedTim" states (beginning on page 2 of the topic) that it's impossible for Apple to do this but then experiences the auto-pushed update first-hand for himself on page 3
https://discussions.apple.com/message/19820810#19820810
What is irking me and most of the others that have experienced this auto-pushed OTA update is that (as I mentioned before) you cannot remove it and just sits on the iDevice using up ~1.2 GB - ~1.5 GB (& possibly more, depending on the device and it's update size). If it's removed (as I again mentioned above by restoring the iPad as new, NOT using a backup, from the device itself), it returns to your device, conveniently auto-pushed to you again (and again) by Apple when you're connected to the internet under external (not battery) power.

  • Why is my old Apple ID showing for iCloud account after IOS7 update?

So, about a year ago I switched from a local internet service provider to Google Fiber.  As such, my email account from the internet service provider was shut down, and I moved my email to a Gmail account.
I used to have my Apple ID set to [email protected], but just before switching to Google Fiber, I updated the Apple ID to [email protected].  I have been using the @gmail.com Apple ID for about a year now to purchase items in iTunes and backup my iPhone and iPad to iCloud.  My previous purchases under @isp.com in iTunes were still there and available for download.
Last night, I updated to iOS 7 on my iPhone.  I was never prompted to "restore" from a backup during the upgrade.  When I finally got into the phone, all of my apps, photos, music, etc. were there.  I went to run a backup on iCloud from the iPhone, and found the iCloud settings show my Apple ID to be @isp.com, instead of @gmail.com.  With the new security features in iOS 7, I can't change the Apple ID (the field is grayed out), restore the device, or delete the exiting iCloud backup, without knowing the password for the old Apple ID of @isp.com, which I haven't used in over a year.
I have read several other posts about changing the Apple ID back to the old email address, then verifying that email in order to change the password to something new, but in my case, I don't have that option since the old email address has been shut down.  I called Apple Support and they were baffled by this. After a half hour of troubleshooting, their only suggestion was to do a full "Erase All Content & Settings", and then set up the iPhone as a "new device", before trying to restore from the @gmail.com Apple ID.  The problem here is that the option to "Erase" also feeds into the new security features for iOS 7, and requires the old password from when I was using my Apple ID as @isp.com.
I'm all about the increased security, but it seems this has essentially locked out a ton of users from getting to their own stuff, simply because at some point they changed their Apple ID.
It seems a number of people are having this problem, so if anyone finds a solution to this, please let me know.

Thanks mellaguy - makes me feel a little better knowing there are others out there experiencing the same problem!
A short time ago, iCloud mysteriously let me sign in using my current password from the @gmail.com Apple ID, which I had tried probably 30 times before.  It's almost like iOS7 on my device suddenly connected with the iCloud servers, and obtained the most "current" information?
Apple Support told me earlier today that when I changed the Apple ID login from @isp.com to @gmail.com last year, I was simply updating an existing "account", and did not create a separate account.  This was why all of my previous purchases under @isp.com were still available for download, etc.  They said that despite the fact my old @isp.com Apple ID was showing after the iOS7 update, I should be able to enter the current password for the @gmail.com Apple ID.  When that didn't work, I went to iCloud on my Mac and changed my password.  Even after changing the password to something new, it still didn't work on my iPhone running on iOS7.  Mysteriously, after 30+ attempts to login using the new password, it suddenly accepted it.  It had literally denied my password repeatedly within 5 minutes before it accepted it, which is why I thought maybe it suddenly connected to the server and recognized the current login credentials for my account.
I'm not sure why it suddenly decided to let me sign in, but I've finally managed to disable the "Find my iPhone" feature long enough to change the iCloud Apple ID to @gmail.com and start a backup (still in progress).
The one thing I can't tell from the other threads I'm reading is if this is a widespread iOS7 issue on all devices, or if it is isolated to a particular device (or model).  I'm hesitant to upgrade my iPad2 until I see more on this issue.

  • Camera on ipad2 not working after ios7 update?

Camera not working on ipad2 after ios7 update?

AApple takes no responsibility for their updates causing harm to devices. See section 7.4 through 7.6
i see a lot of denial on this site when it comes to viruses, the same applies to apple updates messing up folks devices. Take it back to an apple store and it is likely the best you can hope for is a discount on a new ipad.  Good luck.  Hopefully someone here can help you with a fix.

  • Is Apple considering the inclusion of a MS Exchange Groups functinality for iCloud Contacts in future iOS7 updates?

Is Apple considering Exchange Groups functinality for iCloud Contacts in future iOS7 updates? If not, I am considering a change to an Android or Blackberry device.
Since converting from Palm and Balckberry devices a few years ago, I have missed the full MS Exchange Contact Group functionality they had.
I have used many of the work-arounds and thrid party apps people have suggested but I find they are not convnient.
Does any else want this functionality in iOS?

We are all fellow users and not Apple employees so no one knows what Apple is looking at for future iOS versions.  All any of us can do is wait and see and give Apple feedback: http://www.apple.com/feedback

That is a nonsensical request. If it could be installed then that would not prove that it could not be installed.

  • HT5622 My iOS7 update tells me my Apple ID is invalid when I try to reactivate my iMessage, how do I fix it?

After I got the iOS7 update, my phone won't  allow me to get iMessage/ FaceTime, push notifications, or use certain apps (for instance, snapchat). It bothers me because My mom cannot contact me without iMessage, whereas she messages me on her iPad. & honestly I enjoy using snapchat & getting notifications from my apps.

  • After iOS7 update apple ID reset to old one

After the IOS7 update, my iCloud ID was reset to the old one.  Not only that, I cannot access it because the system says my birthdate is wrong!!!!  Like I don't know my own birthdate or entered it incorrectly.  Now Apple wants to charge me $19 to fix the problem they have created.  Does anyone have any solutions as to how I can change the iCloud ID on my iPad.  Now I am afraid to update my iPhone 5 because it may encounter the same problem.

Moving the switch does no good on an iPad...Remote will not move out of Portrait orientation no matter what you do.

  • Ipad2 unable to update apps since ios7 update

Since the ios7 update, my ipad2 cannot complete any app updates. When I try to download updates, it says "the app could not be purchased at this time. Please try again later."
    How do I fix this?

This may sound funny, but try setting the date on your iPad ahead about a year.  Then set the date back to today's date and then try updating apps.

  • Has anyone lost there volume on there ipad2 with ios7 update

I lost my volume to my ipad 2 after I did my Ios7 update I took it in to the apple store they were very nice they test it my ipad they said they could not do anything for me and they could replace my ipad for 250.00 since my ipad was out of warranty since April.  I think that's not fair my ipad was in excellent condition I have never had a problem.  So iam trying to see if anyone else had this problem with there volume.

After moving to ios7 my iPad seems more sensitive to thinking it is " docked" even though we don't have a dock. When it thinks it is docked all sound and sound controls go to the non existent dock.
Cause...dirty port...not an issue with ios6 but something in ios7 makes your port more sensitive to thinking dust is a docking station.
After searching "iPad thinks it's docked" I found a fix.
This solution worked instantly for me ... Turn off the iPad then gently clean with rubbing alcohol and a a-tip with the end thinned out to fit in the port.
    Now we have sound!
There were a couple of solutions in here that involved cleaning the dock connector port.
maybe one will work for you.

4s won't reboot after ios7 update. I have restored 4 times. Every time it gets stuck on Apple icon with update bar at 10%
    HELP!

That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it...
