Apple Forgot About Spaces

It looks like Apple forgot to migrate a big feature in Spaces to 10.6.
Moving applications between spaces works fine, but moving a whole desktop around in Spaces is broken!
This was broken since 10.6 - however still functional - but now in 10.62 it's even worse in that it just lags the whole computer down. Try it. The desktop will move with a couple of seconds lag from your mouse pointer, without the animation on 10.5 (it'll just show a translucent picture of your desktop, instead of showing the desktop moving around). In effect, you'll have to wait 5-10 seconds as the desktop ghost catches up with the movements that you made with your mouse pointer.
Apple, please fix this. It's embarassing.

I wasn't aware of the ability to move an entire desktop. Can't think of any reason to do so. But it works perfectly for me. There was no lag at all.
Try temporarily creating a new user account. Log in to it, and see if that account has the same problem.
You might have a kernel extension or application that's interacting with the desktop in a way that's not fully compatible.

    You can neither merge or delete them. Pick one and stop using the other. If they both have purchases associated with them you will have to keep using both.

    The page that you posted from has instructions for how to reset them i.e. if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then steps 1 to 5 half-way down that page should give you a reset link.
    If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple in your country to get the questions reset (these are user-to-user forums).
    Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
    When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 page that you posted from to add a rescue email address for potential future use

  • What Apple forgot to include in Logic 8 for professionals

    Hallo. I own a commercial recording studio, based as usual on Pro Tools HD and its hardware (192 and ProControl and so on) and I'm counting the days waiting for a professional DAW that converts engineers and producers to a better alternative...
    I'm sure that Apple forgot to include a few things to allow all of us to change (even if I hope to have the possibility to buy an SSL and change anyway to Logic):
    1. missing of RTAS support
    2. import and export in .ptf format (Pro Tools proprietary)
    3. a bit more intuitive and fast session management and audio editing. For sessions management, it's important to have the recorder-analog mixer feeling, so an easier way to create new tracks, manage them, and record material. About audio editing, a fast switch from edit mode to arrange mode, and a fast switch from grid to free.
    4. an hardware package sold directly from Apple as official DAW system, but cheaper than the Digi TDM system, allowing us to s.w.i.t.c.h to Logic professionally.
    Please Apple, read this and do it

    he he he... nice
    im sure whats he talking about is logic being able to access the plugins he has that only support rtas...
    bomb factory maybe, others im sure
    im not so keen for using different apps for their strengths when we COULD have one that rocks the house for 95% of it. sure, maybe every once in a while having to open another up when you run across that one thing, but to have to cut every project in half logic half pro tools gets really tiring after a while. especially when you try to use just one and make it work just to find out that either doesnt cut it, especially on the PTs side. ive been able to whittle PTs use down to just cutting drums, vocals and serious audio editing. otherwise, i stay in logic, but would love never to open PTs again.
    but main point though is not 'whats wrong with logic' which it prob comes across as, but rather what apple needs to do in order to take the market share from PTs. Logic 8 is a really nice program, and prob is everything most buyers need, especially having not seriously used other programs. BUT, if they are trying to expand their user base and expand their marketshare, they will need to attract PTs users away from digi, but PT users have a certain level of expectancy out of the audio capability dept (ease of operation to editing capabilities).
    i know plenty of guys in town that split their process between logic and pts, and like myself would LOVE to use logic only. when you have to work at it though like alot of us do, youve put in your time with ALL the daws to figure out you need two or even three apps to have a productive workflow, and when i say productive, i know there are workarounds for this and that, but when you consistently have deadlines and HAVE to make sure your projects are done by then to get paid and move to the next one, workarounds equals a ton of time that could be saved, spent with your wife, creating new stuff, playing in the yard with your boy, any number of things. when you have the time to take or waste, workarounds are fine. but to have in ONE app would buy you tons more users, and logic is WAY closer to being that than pts can come close to.
    man, i know i sound like im harping on it, but im actually excited that we might be getting really close to that ONE great program. keep at it apple, i cant wait!

  • Called Apple Canada about my 15" MBP whine....

    I called Apple Canada about the 'whine' on my 15" MBP. The customer service person I spoke to asked me what the problem was. I explained that my MBP had a whine that I wasn't happy with. He had asked where did I hear the 'whine'. I told him that it was obviously behind the keyboard and concentrated more in the middle of the keyboard. He asked if the whine was always there, even when I turn the brightness all the way down. I told him yes. Then he told me that because of the the dual core processor used to fit in such a small space, it was normal for the this 'whine' and that it was normal operation: there was nothing wrong with my MBP. I've tried running Comic Life or iChat, and whenever either of those apps are running, my MBP is dead silent (less the HD running of course). Is this 'whine' normal or is it the same defect that lots of people here are posting on this forum? If this is indeed a defect, what is it that I've got to do to convince Apple that my unit is defective? Your comments would be appreciated. BTW, its a 15" MBP with 2 gig Ram, 100Gig HD, 2.16GHz processor, bought in Feb when it first came out.
    MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Brought my MBP into the authorized service/repair
    depot today, and the technician was aware of the
    problem. They're going to order a new MLB and when it
    comes in, they're going to call and install it.
    Are you living in Vancouver ? there is small possibility that you talk to me
    Anyway here is what I noticed the difference between old and new logic board:

  • I keep getting emails for another user; can't seem to contact Apple support about this

    Hi there,
    I keep receiving emails for someone called Amanda to my email address.  These are not spam emails; it seems like someone called Amanda is signing up to reputable websites using my email address.  So far, Pinterest, Educreations and a women's magazine have sent me emails to confirm my membership.  There doesn't seem to be anything suspect going on: they're all respectable websites, and they're always addressed to Amanda.  I was also receiving confidential emails from a legitimate business with invoices etc. a while back.
    I'm confused as to what would be the cause and/or point of this.  It seems like a very benign way to spam/scam somebody.  Is it possible (I feel ridiculous even asking this) that emails can become crossed like telephones?  I know, I know, it's a stupid question.
    I'd like to contact Apple Support about this, but I seem to be going round in circles on the website.  Unless I have AppleCare (mine is expired) I can't seem to get in contact with anyone.  Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction?
    Thanks!

  • Problem about space management of archived log files

    Dear friends,
    I have a problem about space management of archived log files.
    my database is Oracle 10g release 1 running in archivelog mode. I use OEM(web based) to config all the backup and recovery settings.
    I config "Flash Recovery Area" to do backup and recovery automatically. my daily backup schedule is every night at 2:00am. and my backup setting is "disk settings"--"compressed backup set". the following is the RMAN script:
    Daily Script:
    run {
    allocate channel oem_disk_backup device type disk;
    recover copy of database with tag 'ORA$OEM_LEVEL_0';
    backup incremental level 1 cumulative copies=1 for recover of copy with tag 'ORA$OEM_LEVEL_0' database;
    the retention policy is the second choice, that is "Retain backups that are necessary for a recovery to any time within the specified number of days (point-in-time recovery)". the recovery window is 1 day.
    I assign enough space for flash recovery area. my database size is about 2G. I assign 20G as flash recovery area.
    now here is the problem, through oracle online manual, it said oracle can manage the flash recovery area automatically, that is, when the space is full, it can delete the obsolete archived log files. but in fact, it never works! whenever the space is full, the database will hang up! besides, the status of archived log files is very strange, for example, it can change "obsolete" stauts from "yes" to "no", and then from "no" to "yes". I really have no idea about this! even though I know oracle usually keep archived files for some longer days than retention policy, but I really don't know why the obsolete status can change automatically. although I can write a schedule job to delete obsolete archived files every day, but I just want to know the reason. my goal is to backup all the files on disk and let oracle automatically manage them.
    also, there is another problem about archive mode. I have two oracle 10g databases(release one), the size of db1 is more than 20G, the size of db2 is about 2G. both of them have the same backup and recovery policy, except I assign more flash recovery area for db1. both of them are on archive mode. both of nearly nobody access except for the schedule backup job and sometime I will admin through oem. the strange thing is that the number of archived log files of smaller database, db2, are much bigger than ones of bigger database. also the same situation for the size of the flashback logs for point-in-time recovery. (I enable flashback logging for fast database point-in-time recovery, the flashback retention time is 24 hours.) I found the memory utility of smaller database is higher than bigger database. nearly all the time the smaller database's memory utility keeps more than 99%. while the bigger one's memory utility keeps about 97%. (I enable "Automatic Shared Memory Management" on both databases.) but both database's cup and queue are very low. I'm nearly sure no one hack the databases. so I really have no idea why the same backup and recovery policy will result so different result, especially the smaller one produces more redo logs than bigger one. does there anyone happen to know the reason or how should I do to check the reason?
    by the way, I found web based OEM can't reflect the correct database status when the database shutdown abnormally. for example, if the database hang up because of out of flash recovery area, after I assign more flash recovery area space and then restart the database, the OEM usually can't reflect the correct database status. I must restart OEM manually to correctly reflect the current database status. does there anyone know in what situation I should restart OEM to reflect the correct database status?
    sorry for the long message, I just want to describe in details to easy diagnosis.
    any hint will be greatly appreciated!
    Sammy

    thank you very much, in fact, my site's oracle never works about managing archive files automatically although I have tried all my best. at last, I made a job running daily to check the archive files and delete them.
    thanks again.

  • I've been a GCU member for awhile. Forgot about the 3 game limit. How can I fix it?

    I've been a GCU member for over 2 years. I forgot about the purchase limit on new games. I grabbed 4 copies of a game yesterday, and they shipped today. At some point today while I was spacing out I remembered about the limit for the program. What can I do for this, can I just return the 4th copy or will that not help?
    If a mod could get back to me about this I would appreciate it.

  • What is Apple doing about the "Unable to download" problems?

    So, forgive me if these questions have been asked before. But I am new to Apple, just bought an iPhone about 2 months ago. I love my iPhone, but once you start getting into the world of the App store is where the problems seem to start flooding in. Specifically with the downloading and updating portion. Downloading is sometimes a breeze and sometimes a pain as is updating. Some days I have no problems downloading or updating apps. Other days I get error messages such as "unable to download" with an option of "done" or "retry."
    The "done" option is worthless because if you select it, the app is still unselectable and will stay that way for days and the only way around it is to delete the app and reinstall if you can even reinstall it without having problems.
    The "retry" option is also worthless because as soon as you select that option, not even a second later will the message "unable to download" pop up again.
    Some days I get the error message that says something along the lines of unable to download without a wifi connection. That confuses me because there are plenty of times when I have downloaded apps without a wifi connection. So why is it that sometimes I need a wifi connection and other times I dont need it. Second, I am connected to a wifi connection right now and my app still wont update.
    I dont know about you, but I sure as **** dont like seeing that red number 1 on my app store every day, but with the problems of updating apps sometimes im forced to just stare at it every time I unlock my phone.
    So what is Apple doing about these problems?? Because I've seen alot of threads on this discussion board but they all seem to have the same answers, "turn off the phone then turn it back on" "download over a wifi connection" "delete the app and re install"

    Have you called Apple tech support or visited an Apple Store to ask for assistance with the problem? If not, then you really haven't even given Apple the opportunity to assist you with this problem. This is not happening to every iPod touch by any means, so it's most likely an issue with your particular unit. Try the usual steps: restart, reset, restore.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    If that doesn't help, call Apple support or take the iPod to an Apple Store.
    Regards.
