Apple Hardware Test software for late '07 Macbook?

Where do I get the Apple Hardware Test software for a late '07 Macbook?  Original disk is long lost and it doesn't appear Apple has this up for download.
The battery is not taking any charge, totally dead after 772 cycles.  But don't know if its the battery or the Macbook's internal battery charging hardware.

Using How to identify MacBook models your Macbook is a Macbook 3,1. At this link https://github.com/upekkha/AppleHardwareTest click on Macbook3,1 link which will download the AHT software. Here is the direct link - MacBook3,1 Mac-F22788C8.

  • Need Apple Hardware Test Software For Sept 2006 iMac

I am aware it came with the original installation from 4 years ago. But the original installation is not available. Is this available and be downloaded from somewhere else?

No you cannot download the AHT however you can call Apple and they can replace the installation disc for a nominal fee. That way you will have both it and the AHT for future use. Getting a replacement disc is wise because sooner or later you may need it if you plan to sell the machine or need to re-install the OS.

  • Separate Apple Hardware Test DVD for MacBook Pro original??

Hey Folks, I'm trying to verify whether or not the MacBook Pro came with the Apple Hardware Test as a separate DVD disk. The "MacBook Pro" Install disk references it but I can't seem to find the software on that DVD. Any guesses out there would be appreciated. I'm about to perform an upgrade for Tiger to Leopard and wnat to give my laptop the "hairy eyeball" before I begin.
    Many Thanks,
    Peter

Insert the DVD and start up the computer with the D key held down. The Hardware Test is on a separate area of the DVD and isn't normally accessible.

  • Apple Hardware Test on a late 2008 MBP new HDD

    Hey Community!
I own a Mac Book Pro - Late 2008 shipped with OSX 10.5.5. Currently I a new 500GB HDD and a 265 SDD are running in my MBP. The Super Drive is in an external USB Housing. Current OS X is version 10.7.1.
I need to run the Apple Hardware Test, because sometimes the system seems to freeze for at least 30 seconds.
    What I've already tried:
*) Holding down "D" at the startup -> nothing happens, normal startup
*) setting start volume to external fire wire optical drive, insert 10.5.5. Installation disc, restart, holding down "D" -> startup with installation wizard
*) same with 10.6 Installation disc
*) same with choosing the Backup Partition when holding down "Alt" at startup and then pressing "D"
Always, I was connected via WIFI and Ethernet.
Can someone give me an advise how to run the Apple Hardware Test, or how to reinstall it on the new SDD Harddrive, where my system is mounted?
Thank u and greetings from Austria
    Claudio

Try using your disk utility to read the drives. I'm not at my computer now but if you go into utilities->disk utility you might be able to solve it from there.
Also try holding down the C key on boot or esc.

    Thnx apple and u guys!

To use Internet Apple Hardware Test, start up your Mac and hold down both the option and D keys on your keyboard.

  • How do I use Apple Hardware Test on a Mid 2010 macbook pro?

This MacBook is now running Mavericks 10.9.1
This makes it so I can't update the firmware to use Apple Hardware Test within OS X internet recovery as discussed in this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4904
Holding down "D" at boot does nothing
Holding down Option + D gives me Apple Hardware Test that can't be run because the firmware isn't updated and can't be updated because the update can only be applied to systems running Mac OS X 10.7.2

You need the origional grey disk 2 that came with the mac when new.  It contains the AHT and applications.  You can call Apple and order the disks.

  • Is it possible to run "Apple Hardware Test" on an early 2007 Macbook running 10.4.11?

I was just wondering, is it possible to get a version of AHT for an early 2007 MAcbook with 10.4.11? Or is it on the install disk? Pressing D when starting up doesn't do anything so I presume this macbook doesn't have it installed on the HD, I haven't tried it yet with the install disk.
If not, is there any way to download it or run it from another CD? My mum has a macbook pro with Snow Leopard but I've heard I can't run AHT from a different model on this.
I want to troubleshoot my hard drive (something more detailed than a SMART test) and I can't find any other applications for testing drive speed etc, other than xbench which is a confusing and (I've heard) inaccurate tool.
Any chance of running AHT on this?
Or could I put this into target disk mode and run AHT on the macbook pro, to check this HD?

There are testers like Intech's SpeedTools Pro, & Drive Genius, but I think we're barking up the wrong tree!
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

  • How do I run Apple Hardware Test on a 2012 MacBook Air with 10.8.4?

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to run Apple Hardware Test on a mid-2012 MacBook Air with 10.8.4 installed. Whenever I restart and hold the letter D my computer goes into internet recovery mode and asks me to connect to Wifi... Please help, thanks!

Using Apple Hardware Test on computers with OS X 10.7 or later
Mac NoteBook and Desktop computers shipping with OS X 10.7 or later have a partition on the hard drive or flash storage that contains AHT. To start AHT on these computers please follow these instructions:
Press the power button to turn on your computer.
Press and hold the D key before the gray startup screen appears.
It takes a minute or so for AHT to start up and inspect your hardware configuration. While this is taking place, an icon appears on the screen:
When the process is complete, select your language and click the right arrow. If you aren't using a mouse, you can use the up and down arrows to select a language and then press the Return key.
The AHT console appears. You can choose which sort of test or tests to perform:
To perform all of the basic tests, click the Test button or press the "T" key or the Return key.
To perform a more thorough diagnostic test, select the "Perform extended testing" checkbox under the Test button before you click the Test button.
Note: Your test results will appear in the window in the bottom-right of the console. To exit AHT, click Restart or Shut Down at the bottom of the window.
Some Macintosh computers that shipped with OS X Lion and later support the use of Apple Hardware Test over the Internet. These computers will start up to an Internet-based version of AHT if the hard drive does not contain AHT.  An Internet-enabled connection via Ethernet or Wi-Fi is required to use this feature. Internet-based AHT functions the same as AHT on the hard drive or flash storage outlined above.
The Mac NoteBook and Desktop computers listed in Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery will require a firmware in order to support the Internet version of AHT. Without this update you may see the behavior discussed in this article.

  • Can't perform Apple Hardware Test of any kind

I can't perform an Apple Hardware Test – on a late 2008 MBP – from original software disk, because my superdrive (matshita dvd-ram uj-868) has long been broke.
Whenever I insert any kind of disk, it doesn't even read neither the machine recongnizes it and it's really a **** of a bum to eject it (when lucky I manage to remove it with force-eject).
Anyway, these are the sollutions that Apple tells in order to perform the AHT

    If you have a new Mac (…) I don't
If your Mac has OS X v10.8.3 or earlier (…) I'm running OS X v10.8.4
If you updated your Mac to OS X v10.8.4 or later, use the system software disc or USB flash drive that came with your Mac. Well, obvious reasons…
    So, what can I do?!
P.S.: I would like to run the Apple Hardware Test:
To know what happened to my SuperDrive.
For a long time it keeps with high temperatures (at least 70°C 158°F), causing the loud fans to pump up. Even with low %CPU usage (already have SMC fan control)
To have an overview of how is my machine doing.
    Thank you!

I've already tried and it didn't work because my MBP can't' be upgraded to OS X internet recovery (using option+D)…

  • Interpreting Apple Hardware Test Codes...How?

Is there a chart or document that will allow me to decode the errors that are produced by the Apple Hardware Test software?
I'll provide the two errors I've seen, but they don't happen all the time. I'd like to know what these mean, but I'd really like to know how I can decode these and future errors myself.
    4MHD/2/40000002:0x7ee50490
I'm assuming this one is a hard drive error, but which one? Internal? External USB Drive? How do I tell?
    4YDC/2/40000002:0x7eea4890
I'm not sure what this one is.

First of all, thanks for all your and everyone else's help on this!
I had some corruption on my internal hard drive which I was finally able to fix using a combination of tools (Diskwarrior and Speedtools) and a reformat and reload of the OS. I was still having problems, but they did not appear to be disk related. I started wondering if there might be some hardware issues causing the issues that may have led to the disk corruption previously and be causing some more current issues. I had installed Mac OS on an external drive and had been booting from that to run some of the various tools and I was still having problems. Anyway, as I've been unplugging one device at a time and doing testing, it seems that my system has become much more stable since I have left the one external drive with Mac OS on it unplugged.
At this point, I'm guessing my problem is either a failing but intermittent internal hard drive (since it had corruption to begin with), or something about the external drive that my system doesn't like (that made the system unstable even after cleaning up the internal drive). Recent problems could be either or a combination of both.
Anyway, I think this narrows it down pretty good, so I'm just leaving the suspect external unplugged and waiting to see if I have more disk related problems.
    Thanks again.

  • I can"t open the apple hardware test from the applecare support website

i received the applecare training program for my birthday and while exploring the applecare service source website i found a image file of the apple hardware test (AHT) for each model along with a pdf of the service manual and a pdf of the AHT service codes. The problem i'm having is, i cant open the image of the AHT.

After downloading that image, open it and it will show up mounted in your desktop. Then, open Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities), right-click your Apple Hardware Test image in the sidebar and burn it to a DVD. Finally, start your computer from the disc, holding the C key, so Apple Hardware Test should start, always that you have the correct version for your computer.
You have Apple Hardware Test in the Applications disc that came with the computer. In that case, hold the D key while your computer is starting

  • Finding Apple Hardware Test or Customer Support Phone Number

I bought a used g5 from eBay and need to get an Apple Hardware Test CD to test out the hardware. (I've been having kernel panics)
I have been searching for about 30 min for a way to get the Apple Hardware test CD for the g5 or a customer service phone number.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thank you.

    Thanks for the help DS...
I called Apple and they are sending me disk 1 of the original install disk that should have AHT on it. I asked the rep whether firmware updates have any bearing on the AHT and they said it didn't. We shall see.

  • Is there stress testing software for the Mac?

I am looking for a stress-testing program for OSX. Something that would press a computer to it's limits and make it crash faster, if it's supposed to crash intermittently. Can anyone suggest such a program for the Macintosh?
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi, T.M.
If you're looking to troubleshoot an intermittent problem that may be hardware-related, See my "Apple Hardware Test" FAQ for comprehensive advice on using the Apple Hardware Test in troubleshooting, including running the test in Loop Mode.
There is also Xbench, a performance benchmarking tool.
More details as to what prompts your question might help.
    Good luck!

  • Apple Hardware Test: System Configuration not Supported

I wanted to run Apple Hardware Test on a Quad G5. Right after it launched, it gave me a message that my system configuration was not supported (sorry... I don't remember the exact message).
My Quad was shipped with an nVidia 6600 graphics card (before the 7800GT was available). I recently upgraded from that 6600 to a 7800GT. Could that be the issue?
It's possible I was trying to run an old version of AHT. The disk was labeled:
    Mac OS version 10.2.7 (G5)
    AHT version 2.1
    DVD version 1.2
    691-4657-A
If I am running the wrong version, I'd order another copy from Apple (lots of posts on how to do that) but I have one concern: one post said that Apple would only ship the original disks, which brings me back to the first question: would an upgraded video card cause AHT to complain that it didn't support the configuration?

It's possible I was trying to run an old version of AHT.
You were. The Apple Hardware Test intended for your G5 is a bit hidden; you need to insert its first original disk and restart with the Option key held down to access it. Once you see it, click on it and push the button with the straight arrow.

  • Hardware test software

I am looking to see if I can download the Apple Hardware Test software, if I do not have the original disk?

Yes, that's what I thought as well.  However, I have an iMac I bought last early fall, Lion already installed, and holding down D doesn't work, nor do I have an installation disks.   Moreover, when I try the firmware upgrade that's supposed allow booting from the internet, I get a report saying it doesn't work on my system.
    Go figure.
