Apple icon, sad face, and low battery symbol (not charging) what's going on

my iPod U2 4th gen started acting up on me. it needed to be reset more and more often, until it decided to just stop working all together. it would show me the apple sign, sad face, and low battery symbols. bought and installed new battery, won't charge. it changes from apple icon to sad face back and forth on it's on when plugged into wall with firewire. goes from apple icon to sad face when connected to pc via USB. pc won't recognize it. please help! i've tried everything! is there something wrong with my hard drive? i'll pay anything to save the files on my hard drive. HELP!!!!!

Hey man...I have the EXACT same Ipod with the EXACT same problem. I went to the apple store and they told me I had to wait 3 days to make an appointment with a "Mac Genius" to look at it and that with all the repairs done it would probably cost me $150. Frustrated, I went home and did some research and heres what I found:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ljPhrFUaOY
http://notpopular.com/blogs/josh/2006/03/29/fix-your-ipod-by-spanking-it/
I kid you not. So basically I put the wall charger on, let it charge for 3 hours. Took it off the wall plug and then slapped the $#!t out of it 4 or five times. Then turned it on. Same sad face. Tried a combination of the reboot procedure and slapping around and now it works! Good luck and hope it works for you too!
I feel like going to the apple store and slapping the crap out of "Mac Rip Ppl off Genius"

My Macbook Pro shut down because the battery power ran out. Now I cannot start it and the battery will not charge. Only one green battery charge light lights up and blinks on the left side. I am running Lion. How do I get this to charge and turn on? Thanks

If your model Macbook Pro is the calibrating model, let the battery calibrate.
If not, and are still under warrant or have Apple Care, give them a call and get a case number.  Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • My Iphone 4 is very warm to the touch and the battery is not charging. Any suggestions on how to solve this without getting a new phone?

I plugged my iphone 4 in this morning, at the time it had a 20% battery.  In the last four hours the phone has begun to overheat and the battery appears to be between 2-3% charged, keeping in mind it has been plugged in four hours.  I unplugged the phone, let it rest for 10 min it was still warm.  I turned it off and it didn't cool down much in the 10 min it was off.  Turned it back on, plugged it in and still nothing has changed.  I have turned off all running apps through settings.  What can I do to save my phone?

Something may have gone amiss on your iPhone.
To attempt to correct this follow these steps:
Backup your iPhone using iTunes or iCloud.
Use iTunes to completely restore your iPhone as Factory new.
Monitor battery usage to see if it is normal. If not, you may have a hardware problem - if so, contact Apple support.
Restore your iPhone from your backup above.
Check battery usage to confirm that it is still normal.

  • I have recently bought a brand new MacBook Pro and the battery will not charge

When the magsafe adapter is connected. Has anyone else got this problem. N.B. The charging icon in the top right hand corner only displays the words (Not Charging)
I have been told by Apple Care to try a PRAM reset and a SMC reset, but the light on the mag safe never turns amber, just stay lit green.

    Hi...
At least try some troubleshooting before taking the Mac in...  these are very easy procedures to follow.
Try here >  Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters
And definitely try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
If that doesn't help, try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM

  • LED did not lit up and the battery is not charging

    I'm using Macbook model A1342 late 2009
For the past 4 months or so, it's been hard for the charger connect to properly connect and charge. However, it has always worked when I wiggle the connect a bit. Last week, no matter how hard I try, it won't charge. I tried to use my friend's charger but still, it wont charging. I can still turn on and off my laptop while the battery is about 40% left. I even install the Macbook application install DVD for apple hardware test and it said that my laptop is working properly. Untill the battery turns 0% and it shuts down on its own. I first thought it was the battery failure. Then, I sent it to a local apple service centre in Russia to make sure whether I can change a new battery. They run some diagnostic and said it wasnt the battery, it was the logic board! I never spill any liquid on it. And how is it possible that the logic board is broken but I can turn it on???? Can someboy please help me??

But what about yours with her computer? Just to be sure the cause is not a banal contact of the plug. If yours is also OK with hers, then concentrate on other possible causes, i.e. battery or worse, the contacts inside. It isn unlikely to have a software issue, i.e. a corrupt system, which does not correctly read/send data, but chck this too. The simplest way is to connect your mac via firewire to the other mac, and start it in target mode; and vice-versa. You should thus check if systems are OK.
For starting in target mode look up in apple.com, i.e. here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8443.html
When clear that system is OK, concentrate on the other hardware issues. The logic board may indeed be the big trouble, as you cannot repair it, and replacing it may prove too expensive.

  • Battery does not charge while plugged in

My computer is plugged into the charger and does not lose power while plugged in, however, it does not charge either. It currently sits at 63% power and says "Battery is not charging" when I mouse over the battery icon and verifies that it is plugged into the power adapter. Basically the problem is that it doesn't lose power when its charged in, but the battery isn't recharging either. The light on the charger isn't lighting up either, however, I've verified that its the computer's problem by plugging my charger into my roommates identical laptop. Any idea what the issue is? Thanks everyone.

I also have this problem with my Mid-2007 MBP.
I have reset the SMC to no avail.
I've noticed that if my battery appears to be charging (albeit slowly) and then I try to play World of Warcraft, it switches to "Not Charging" once the fans startup.
I just had it serviced and they replaced the logic board 1 wk ago and then I upgraded to Snow Leopard. Could any of this have an effect?

  • My battery does not charge, the battery is okay but no charging functionality

i have a g60 laptop, I think it is US120 model, It should be registered to me.  When the AC charger is on it does not detect it and the battery does not charge.  The battery got lower and lower and now it will not start.  It also will not run without the batter in it and without charge in the battery.  Any ideas_?

It sounds like your adaptor may have died.  Here is a link that you can find information for troubleshooting your adaptor.

  • Satellite L500 - Battery will not charge

    Hello,
I am hoping someone can help me. I have a L500 and all of a sudden my battery will not charge. As soon as I unplug the laptop from the power it shuts off. I have also tried another battery (although not a brand new one) and that battery will not charge also. The battery is currently on 8% and wont charge further, but also will not stay on when unplugged. Has anyone else had this problem, or know what I can try?
    Thanks

    Hi buddy,
Can you charge the battery when you turn off the notebook?
Do you use the original Toshiba AC/DC adapter?
For me it sounds like a hardware malfunction I mean if you have already tried another battery with the same result it seems that something is wrong with charging control on mainboard. This would mean the mainboard or another hardware parts needs replacing. This can be done from an authorized service provider.

  • NEW EOS 6D -- battery does not charge

    Hi,
I just got an EOS 6D camera yesterday and the battery is not charging...
    Should I return the kit?
    What could be the problem?
    Thanks,
    Tamara

If the battery has been sitting on the shelf for a while, this can happen.  Unplug it, wait a minute, plug it back in.
I have had batteries that I had to do this to once or twice, but once they started charging they were fine and never had another problem again.
Also, batteries don't last forever... I think of them like tires on my car.  They don't wear much when I drive the car, but they do *technically* wear and at some point will need to be replaced.  Heavily used batteries may only get a couple of years worth of use.  Sparingly used batteries may get a few more years worth of use.  Even batteries that are never used at all will eventually go bad... the technology isn't stable enough for a battery to last forever and just sitting on the shelf degrades them.

  • HT4060 ipad does not seem to be charge.  has been plugged in for about 5 hours and low battery photo remains...cannot turn on or off... only low battery photo and apple symbol or blank page appear

ipad does not seem to be charging.  Has been plugged in for about 5 hours and low battery icon remains same...alternates with apple symbol or blank page.  cannot turn ipad on or off

The iPod Touch kept trying to reboot yesterday but would only show the Apple logo screen then shut off - it finally drained the battery overnight I am guessing. Connected to USB the battery charging icon flashes.
Took it back to Best Buy, but they wouldn't touch it or replace it since it's under warranty.
To any potential buyers - beware. My best advice is to look somewhere besides Apple. Every Mac user I know has had to return a Mac, laptop, etc. Really poor quality control, and the retailers agree (Geek Squad told me they have had the same experience with Apple products).
