Apple ID.  Am i stuck with a old email address forever?

Hi, i had a gmail email address for years which i used for everything, including itunes, so my account log on is [email protected]
Since the @me and @icloud addresses were given out, i got one of these and the [email protected] is my primary used email.  I understand that i automatically get a @icloud one too.
Anyway, i have tried though 'My Apple ID' change pages to change my email but as its a Apple email address, it tells me i cannot do this. 
So i have to keep my old email open and check it (gmail) for itunes receipts from purchases and also emails from this forum etc.  My log on is also gmail.  I can put up with not being able to change my actual apple ID but surely i must be able to change to email address so i get itune reciepts and forum posts in my correct email box (@me).
I have added my @me account to my apple ID and the @icloud one auto appears there too, but i cannot make primary or have it that all communications is sent to this?
I dont want to loose my @me address or change it but am i right in thinking i have no choice, or put up with having to check a old gmail account?

Hi, and thanks, yeah thats a good idea but really its a workaround.
I am suprised that apple would prefer me using a old gmail account rather than a @me account (which is a apple account).   If i have a non-apple email, then i can change my gmail to this non apple email, but seems daft that apple prefer me to contnue using a non apple email to there own.
I have lived with it for a while and just wandered if there was a solution.  I cant seem to see one anywhere.  Forwarded emails causes problems with replies etc but seems thats best solution

  • How can I change my apple ID from the APP store so I can update my  app? my computer is stuck with an old email and won't let me change it..

            Hello, Im trying to upgrade Imovie and whatever app are about to update in the future, the problem is the my Imac is stuck with an old email on the APP store. I try to change it and nothing happen, when I put my apple ID it send me to change the password and what Im trying to do is to put my new email in the system so would be able to update my computer. You know when you press the update button a little box drop with your email and all you have to put is your password thats where my old email is stuck pls someone help me with that little problem i'll appreciate it... thanks

    An Apple ID isn't necessarily "linked" with your email other than for recovery reasons. So, as long as you know the Apple ID password, an old email isn't catastrophic. Apple ID != e-mail.
    Now, if it's really bugging you and you really want to change it, if you log in to http://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address, this should update your Apple ID. There will be a couple hoops involved with this (i.e. verification of email change by sending email to rescue/alternate email. Alternate email can't be the same as the new primary. The new primary can't have ever been used as/with an Apple ID. etc...).

    Did you create a NEW Apple ID or did you change the email address for your OLD Apple ID? This will affect how you update apps in the future.
    Anyway, go to Settings/iTunes&App Stores, log out, then log in with the new ID.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
    Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
    In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
    In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > iTunes & App store, scroll down and tap your ID)
    If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

    If you updated your existing account then try logging out of it on the iPad by tapping on the id in Settings > Store and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on the iPad. If you created a new account then any content that you purchased/downloaded via the old account will remain tied to that old account, and only that old account can download updates to its apps.

    Same thing here. I am getting the authorization message with iPad, 2 iPods and 3 iPhones. I'm furious about this. I reviewed my itunes account info and everything looks accurate. I downloaded a movie this morning and I can't sync it to iPad. Let's see what explanation is offered.

    You remember the answers to the security questions or you call Apple, talk to someone in account security, and prove to them that you own the account.

    Some of my music was purchased with an old email address (old account) which is no longer valid. Since it has been a long time since we used the email address we no longer know the password.   • Game center keeps logging me out, and then tries to log in with an old email address!

    It will stay logged in for so long and then I will open an app and it will ask me to log in with my old email address, which has been deleted from everywhere I can think of. Help!!!!!

    I've tried all the tricks but have the same issue. iPad 2 with latest iOS update. If I force close all apps and power off then go into settings and sign into Game Center again  it stays ok for about a day. But then it's back to signing in every few minutes as I switch games. Apple it's on you now!
