Apple ID and MobileMe ID

I have an Apple ID that was set up when I first purchased my MacBook Pro and it's the same one I use for iTunes.  After MobileMe was released, I set up a MobileMe account, within which the ID was set up by creating an @me.com address and password thus creating the MobileMe ID.
Do I set up iCloud with the MobileMe ID so that Mail, Contacts, Address, photo streaming, etc. are synced through iCloud or do I set it up with my main Apple ID that's associated with iTunes?  I know you can do that, but if I set up iCloud with MobileMe, does that prevent iTunes music match and syncing of iTunes purchases from occuring in iCloud or do I have to set up iTunes as an additional iCloud account?  If I set up iCloud with the Apple ID associated with iTunes how does that effect my current @me.com email and MobileMe account?

You can do either. Apple suggest using the same ID for everything, that's how mine is and to be honest it is a lot simpler.
If you use different ID's, for iTunes and iCloud you can still use iTunes match etc etc, the two accounts are not dependent on each other.
If you set up your iCloud account using your iTunes ID, you'll need to move your calendars and contacts to the iCloud account from your MM account, you will also need to create a new me address to work with the ID, you won't be able to bring your current one from MM.

  • Apple TV and MobileMe...

Hi, I recently set one of my MobileMe Gallery Album's as my screen saver; however, no pictures are showing. The screen saver is set to show pictures while music is playing but nothing shows. I do have the latest update for my Apple TV (just saying). Does anyone know what might be the problem here? Thanks

So turns out two out four of my MobileMe Albums can be preview but not the other two. I even contacted Apple and they don't know what to do. They said that my Gallery has to be public to be seen on the Apple TV; however, all my albums are on the same Gallery and all of them have the same settings. This is some BS, not even Apple knows what's wrong with their own products...

  • I've an apple ID used to buy off iTunes and a mobileme account for the calendars and contacts. How can I move the calendars and contacts to the older apple ID and use it for iCloud?

I've an apple ID used to buy off iTunes and a mobileme account for the calendars and contacts. How can I move the calendars and contacts to the older apple ID and use it for iCloud?

If you remeber the password to that Apple ID then follow these steps
1 - Make sure you have an email address that is NOT an Apple ID
    2 - Go to AppleID.Apple.com
3 - Where it reads Manage Apple ID - Sign in
Once you are signed in want to make sure the email address you are wanting to use is NOT set up as a "Recovery/Rescue" email for this account.
[To check this - Main page where you see Primary ID - below do you see the email address you want to use listed towards the bottom? Yes - Delete / No - Good ./. If made any adjustments "Save" Next on the left select "Password & Security" - Answer your security questions you set up "if you have any" then scroll towards the bottom and check to see if you see the email address you want to use. Yes - Delete / No - Good] <-> Also you can change your password on this page as well. Any adjustments made "Save"
Once this is done go back to the main page where you should read "Primary ID" and change the email address that is showing to the new email address youo want. "Save" Done
I learned this not to long ago and worked for me. Hope this helps you!

  • My Apple ID and password won't let me log into MobileMe

Aloha, I need help ASAP. I had made a home page for my business in June, 2011.  I didn't touch it for one month, now it won't let me log in with Apple ID and the original pass word.  It requests me to create a new pass word, so I did many times.  Still no result.  HEEEEEEEEELP!

Is this what you are trying to do...
Settings > iTunes and App Store > Apple ID = Sign Out...
Then Sign In using the preferred Apple ID.
    Note:
Anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID

  • Changing Apple ID and how does it affect iCloud?

    Hi,
I had no idea where to put this question since it seems to belong in about 3 different sections, but since it involves my iCloud/Apple/iTunes ID then I suppose this is as good as any place.
I've read a few answers to this question but they don't quite supply all the info I'm trying to find so here goes:
I want to change my Apple ID due to the fact that the email address being used is an old, ISP provided, one that I only tend to use these days for mailing list signups etc. Since, when I created my iCloud account when iOS 5 landed, I (stupidly, before reading that most people seem to advise not doing) chose to associate my iCloud ID to my Apple ID I'm finding all iCloud related notifications are coming from/to my Apple ID email address. I don't really want my shared Calendar changes being sent from/to this account as they can get lost in the deluge of cruft. Obviously in an ideal world I would want to change my Apple ID to my iCloud email address so that the notifications would be coming from there, but obviously this isn't possible yet. I live in hope it may be at some point (foolish I know but hope makes me happy). On that topic, I find it ridiculous that all my other 'verified' email addresses in my Apple ID can be used to change my ID to except the Apple provided me.com one due to that "you cannot use a MobileMe address as an Apple ID since it already is an Apple ID" message. I have never been a MobileMe user. Just iCloud. Maybe when MobileMe goes away this restriction might get lifted......unlikely I suppose but again, I can hope.
First question: could I just delete this iCloud account from my devices (including the Mac) and create a new iCloud account but this time choosing NOT to associate it with my Apple ID? I'd lose my current handy iCloud email address, and have to resync contacts etc but it might be worth it.
Secondly, I tried changing my Apple ID yesterday to another verified email address but lost all iCloud access, due to the Apple ID association I guess. If I deleted the iCloud account on the devices and signed back in with the new Apple ID would that bring me back to where I am now just with a different tied Apple ID? By that I mean full access to current contacts, bookmarks etc etc., without having to resync from anywhere?
Thirdly, which ID is it that controls access to iTunes Match? Apple ID or iCloud ID? Since it's part of iTunes in the Cloud it could be either. On my Mac I'm signed into iTunes with my Apple ID obviously. This gives me access to iTunes Match on the Mac. On my iPhone when I changed my Apple ID and signed into the Store in Settings I still had no access to any iCloud services, including iTunes Match. If I had deleted the account and signed in with the new ID would this have re-enabled iTunes Match? What would happen if the iCloud ID wasn't associated with the iTunes/Apple ID?
Hope most of that made sense. It did in my head.

Apple ID's can be used for anything, a single ID can be used for all your accounts (ie iCloud, iTunes, MAS, Apple community etc), ideally this would be the way forward. So far as iTunes goes you need to continue to use the same ID as you have always used or you will lose access to your previous purchases and your iTunes match subscription.
If you are using a second ID for iCloud, you can continue to do so or use the ID you use for iTunes, but if you choose the later you will need to move all your calendar, contact etc data to the account using the ID you use for iTunes.
When (if) you change which account you use you would delete the account on an iOS device and log back in with the correct details, on a mac you would sign out in the iCloud system preference pane.

  • How can I get iCloud to accept my working Apple ID and password

My Apple ID and password works for iTunes and App Store.  I'm trying to set up iCloud on my iPhone and iPad but i keep getting an error message that reads unsupported ID.  Apple ID must be in the form of email address (@me.com).  I don't have a MobileMe account. How can I get iCloud to accept my working Apple ID and password?

I've also reset my password to my Apple ID. I still get the Unsupported ID and password.

  • I'm trying an email address i know is mine yet still getting this message:"That Apple ID is already in use.If this Apple ID was created by you, simply sign in with your Apple ID and password. If it does not belong to you, try again using a different name."

I keep getting this message:  "That Apple ID is already in use.If this Apple ID was created by you, simply sign in with your Apple ID and password. If it does not belong to you, try again using a different name."
I'm trying to create a new id and e-mail using an e-mail address that is mine and has been mine for over a year - any ideas why this could be happening?

Trying where? What sort of email address? The following answer is based on a guess as to what you are talking about.
If you already have an @me.com address, perhaps as a result of having had a MobileMe account, and you are now setting up an iCloud account with an Apple ID you will find you will be asked to create a new @me.com address, and that you can't add your existing one because it is already an Apple ID.
You can do one of two things:
    1. Sign out at System Preferences; sign in with your existing @me.com address and enable Mail.
    2. Stay signed in with the present ID and add your @me.com address in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts & Calendars.
If you have further questions, or if your situation is different from what I've assumed, do please post back, but in a suitable forum - this one is specifically about using these Forums.

  • How to sync ical with multiple apple devices and android?

Does anybody have use an android phone in addition to apple devices, and have you figured out how to sync ical with all? (I know there are other calendars that can be used by all, but it means a lot to my husband to stay with ical.)

I tried Yahoo in the past but had trouble with duplicate entries. However, this was a while ago before Yahoo updated their site and this was with syncing to a Windows computer with Outlook in addition to a Mac so my results might not be typical. Yahoo's worth a shot, but my experience with Yahoo is why I use Google Calendar.
Beyond that, I don't know of any other "free" services. There are many other hosted calendar sites that could work, but you'd pay something like $5-$20 per month, which is comparable to MobileMe.

  • Apple ID and password nightmares

For years I've never had trouble with my Apple ID and password. However, I am amazed that I was able to log on here to the discussion board after what I've been going through the past 36 hours.
Yesterday, I was trying to renew my MobileMe and it would not accept my ID and password. I did an online chat and learned that my Apple ID and password for Mobile Me are DIFFERENT than the Apple ID and password for my computer--so what I had recorded and stashed away for safekeeping was actually WRONG, apparently, although I have used it over the past year to access MobileMe (weird). That was an easy one to figure out with tech support--I just had to switch to a different "user name" but the password turned out to be exactly what I had written down all along.
However today I hit another bump. I installed a new battery last night in my computer, so I was trying to make sure I calibrate it correctly. I found an apple support article describing how to do it. It had a handy email icon so I thought I would email the article to myself for reference. In order to email it, I had to enter my Apple ID and password. It would not recognize the password I've been using for years. Instead I get an error message that says: "Language code supplied is not valid." It gave me the option to change my password, so I did, and I received an email notification that the password had been changed. So I tried again to email the article and went through the Apple ID and password form again. Again it rejected my password. Again, I get an error message saying: "Language code supplied is not valid." Oddly enough, after that, I went to this discussion board and was able to log on using my old Apple ID and password just fine.
This is starting to scare me because, first, my MobileMe apple ID and password appear to have changed from what I recorded originally (although I was able to ferret out something that works now). And now my apple ID and password for my computer seem to only work sporadically. I'm afraid I'm going to get locked out of my computer altogether, and since I'm self employed and this is my work computer, that could be devastating. My AppleCare just ran out, so I'll have to pay for any service calls, apparently.
Anybody have any ideas about what's going wrong?
FYI, I installed Snow Leopard a couple of weeks ago as well as all of the updates. Seemed to work fine until I noticed it was taking my computer at least a minute to go to sleep when I close the lid or use the pulldown menu. Also, my external hard drive used for Time Machine no longer shows up in my "Devices". However it still backs up okay and the icon does appear on my desktop. Now my Blackberry stopped showing up in "Devices." So I went to the Genius Bar yesterday. They suggested I re-install Snow Leopard and all of the updates again. So I did. Still, external drive doesn't show up in Devices. I tried dragging the icon from the desktop into the Devices column and it showed up there and the little wheel was spinning as the Time Machine was doing its thing. But when it came time to eject the hard drive, I couldn't eject it using the little triangle anymore. I had to go to the desktop and drag the icon to the trash.

I promised to write back if I had some solutions to the problems. Here's what I've learned since my Friday and Sunday visits to the Genius Bar.
    1. Yes, your "Apple ID" and your "MobileMe Apple ID" can be two completely different things, even though Apple only identifies them as "your Apple ID," so keep records of both (apparently, I tied one to one of my email addresses and the other to another one, but didn't record it properly). You can make them the same, I suppose, if you choose.
    2. The reason that my Apple ID wouldn't work to allow me to email the apple support article is that the email function is NOT AVAILABLE to non-Apple personnel. You have to have a special Apple-issued ID in order to use the email function (the Genius Bar told me I was not the first to come in with this problem). Perhaps, instead of an error message saying "Language code not recognized" and a prompt to let me change my password, an error message saying "this email function available only to Apple personnel" would've been far more helpful. Apple, you should fix this since I'm not the only one who has needlessly gone to the Genius Bar for this.
    3. The second Genius was still stumped about why my external hard drive wouldn't show up in "Devices" and could only be ejected by dragging the desktop icon to the trash. But he said as long as it would mount and still do backups with Time Machine, it was probably just a little glitch that I should consider learning to live with (although he offered more diagnostics). I agreed to live with it. However my husband had a brilliant suggestion--try completely unplugging the external drive from the AC and let it rest for a bit, then plug it in again. Just tried that and it worked--the device now shows up in "Devices" for the first time in a week or so.
    4. Haven't tried plugging in the Blackberry to see if it shows up Devices now. I'll wait until I need to sync again. Worst case scenario is I'll just unplug it to eject it like last time. I know that's not great, but it may be my only option. Can't wait to get the iPhone (I'm Verizon).
    5. Computer is now going to sleep on command. Not sure if it's a result of some of the diagnostics from my Friday Genius Bar visit or a result of a completely new reinstall of Snow Leopard.
Thanks to all who posted suggestions. I'm keeping the message about how to zero out the hard drive--I might do that at a later date just to clear the decks once and for all. I appreciate the suggestions about how/where to do multiple bootable backups.

How can I get all the stuff from my old iPad 2 to my new iPad 2? I have an apple id and have synced and backed up my old iPad 2 regularly.

Sky is right you can restore the old backup and it will not affect the old iPad
    To make sure do this:
    1. If you have the old one then just turn off wi-fi and the iPad (that's just for your peace of mind)
    2. Put new iPad on airplane mode (just for no interruptions )
    3. Connect it (while it's on, don't shut it down)
    4. Follow prompts and when it asks if you want to setup as new or restore CHOOSE: RESTORE
    5. It will make its magic (just wait for it to sync, restarts, and finishes) it might ask you to update software if it does just accept
    6. You can rename your new iPad like that you can have a fresh back up
    7. ENJOY your new iPad
    ----------OR-----------
    1. Do the above steps 1, 2, 3.
    2. On step 4 you can choose to set up as new
    3. Then you can choose what to sync on it (click on iPad on the left panel then the tabs on top you choose what you want on it (you can also do that if you restore)
    4. Follow steps 5, 6, 7.
****If you don't have your old iPad you can remove it from your account ****
****Also when they sync it to a new computer it will setup as new unless they had an old one then they will restore it their old one****
****if you have it connected with your MobileMe or iCloud and you have the find my _____ you can also wipe it as soon as it comes online****
LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS
    AGAIN ENJOY YOUR NEW IPAD!!!

  • Up-to-date contacts on iPhone and MobileMe won't won't update the Mac

    Hi,
I just got an iPhone GS and there's a glitch that's driving me mad. (I had an iPod Touch before this so it's not all new.)
First of all I had duplicate Calendars and Contacts ("On my Mac" and MobileMe) so deleted those on my mac by following the instructions here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1922950 which just left MobileMe.
After a bit of fiddling and resetting the Calendars now work so that when I update the iPhone it appears on the Mac, and vice versa.
However, this is not the case with Contacts, and since repeating the process (resetting the Mac, deleting on iPhone and starting again) now if I make changes to contacts on the iPhone they do update MobileMe, but MobileMe does not update the Mac. When I update MobileMe on the website it won't update the Mac either.
I've done everything I can think of/have read about and would really love to get this working as it should.
    Many thanks,
    D

    Yet more information:
I went ahead and clicked "Replace" and then got the following error message:
"You are attempting to reset Contacts on MobileMe from this computer.
Contacts have recently been reset on Mobileme. Are you sure you want to reset the Contacts on MobileMe?"
But nothing changed (didn't even lose the up-to-date contact changes on the iPhone) but then I get the error messages again and again and again...
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    D

  • Back to my Mac - will it work between iCloud and MobileMe?

Just updated my MBookPro to Lion so it would work with iCloud and my new 4S. Everything moved over OK but there's one thing I'm concerned about: will Back to My Mac work now between machines that are not part of the iCloud account? I ask this because my Mac Pro at the office is still on Snow Leopard (and may remain that way, since I use it for editing+graphics and prefer to keep it clean and stable) and I use BtMM all the time to look at the MacPro while I'm at home. I took the precaution of logging out of MobileMe on the MacPro before I moved the account to iCloud on my laptop so there wouldn't be any weirdness. I imagine that if I went and logged in on it now I would no longer have the option of using BtMM on the same Apple ID anymore, yes? I have another Apple ID that's still under MobileMe, so I wonder if I could start using that one now on both machines under the old MobileMe system pref and link the two machines back together?

UPDATE: forget about signing in with a different MobileMe account once you've signed in to iCloud; even though both prefs exist, Lion will NOT let you sign in to both iCloud and MobileMe at the same time, even if they're different accounts.
Grrrr...guess it's back to Remote Desktop for me.
