Apple ID authentication not working

Last year, I changed my e-mail address to reflect my married name. My old Apple ID was my maiden name e-mail address (I'll call it KR for short), and my new Apple ID (KT for short) is my new e-mail address. I assume I must have just updated my e-mail address with my existing Apple ID account (and therefore changed my "Apple ID," since it's just my e-mail address), as opposed to creating an entirely new Apple ID account, though I can't remember for sure. Up until yesterday, the "merged" account (some things purchased under KR, some newer things under KT) worked fine, and all of it responded to the Apple ID and password for KT.
Suddenly, yesterday, when I tried to play movies that were purchased before my e-mail switch from iTunes on my computer , it said my computer wasn't authorized to play KR purchases, and asked for the password. (When I test my purchased music, some of which I know I purchased before I changed my e-mail address, this does not happen). I tried every conceivable password, and then clicked "Forgot." There are two options when you've forgotten your Apple ID password: have reset instructions e-mailed to you, or answer your security questions.
When I select the e-mail option, I don't receive an e-mail (either to my KR or my KT address--and I have checked my Spam folders). When I tried to answer my security questions, it first asks for your birthdate--and when I entered mine, it said it didn't match what Apple has on file. I've repeated this process two days in a row now.
Oddly, I can still stream these movies to my Apple TV--it doesn't ask me to re-authenticate there (but I'm afraid it's only a matter of time, since the Apple TV does occasionally, and seemingly randomly, ask me to re-enter my password). My problem is that I can't play them on my computer, and I'm effectively locked out of my KR account. It's not asking for re-authentication on music, nor for the two movies I've purchased since switching over to KT.
Why might I be locked out of the KR account (not receiving password e-mails and not accepting my date of birth), and how can I re-gain access to my movies? While I'm at it, I would like to merge the KR and KT accounts, so that everything falls under KT and I don't have these differentiated access problems in the future. Thanks so much in advance!

Hmmmm... would appear that you need to be actually logged in to enable the additional menu features.
Have you tried deletting the plists for MAS?

Failing that, I will have to throw this back to the forum to see if anyone else can advise further.
Let me know how you get on?
Thanks.

Why does my apple TV say it needs hdcp compatibility.  It never said that before.  Now my apple tv is not working.

    Hello Rickpoulette,
The following article provides further information and could very well help get your Apple TV and your television cooperating again.
If HDCP authentication does not succeed, you may see one of the following symptoms:
A message may appear on your television stating "This content requires HDCP for playback. HDCP isn't supported by your HDMI connection."
You may see periodic bands of static, or full screen static, flashing across your TV screen.
If you are experiencing either of the symptoms above, try playing the same content again for at least another 10 seconds. If the issue persists, try the following steps until the issue is resolved:
Connect your Apple TV (2nd generation) directly to your HDTV using an HDMI cable.
Set your Apple TV and HDTV to off or sleep mode
From the Apple TV interface, select: Settings -> Sleep Now.
Turn off your TV and wait for about 10 seconds.
    Turn your TV back on.
Press the Select button on your Apple TV remote to wake your Apple TV.
Some HDTVs may need a firmware update. Consult your TV manufacturer's user manual or online support pages for additional information about how to update your TV's firmware.
If available, try using a different HDMI to HDMI cable, such as an Apple HDMI to HDMI cable, directly between your Apple TV (2nd generation) and 720p HDCP-compatible HDTV.

  • My Apple TV does not work and has never worked.

My Apple TV does not work and has never worked. I replaced it twice and replaced my router and DSL modem but no luck. I spent hours on tech support with both apple and my ISPs with no luck. Any ideas? Is the Apple TV a donation to apple? I have had the device for 8 months but it will not work for longer than 15 minutes before it drops with network errors. All of my other devices work perfectly on the network including 2 iPads, laptops and an old wii. I love apple products and this is the first real disappointment I have had. The Apple TV seems like a major dud of a product.

Seems unlikely you have had two faulty replacements, and more likely that there may be some network compatibility issue or problem with reception in the location the AppleTV lies - anything close to it that might be interfering?
I am assuming you are connected via wifi - if you can try an ethernet connection to rule wifi issues out.
Could you try it at somone else's house maybe?  If it worked there it would point to something specific at your location.
You could try replacing it again I guess or seeing if they can offer you credit or a refund.

  • Apple TV does not work!

My Apple TV will not work on my television, and comes up with a message saying 'can not display this mode. Change computer display input to 1360x168 at 60Hz', help?!

    See this thread:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3734909
You may have NTP blocked on your firewall, or may need to replace/upgrade your router.

  • APPLE TV DOES NOT WORK WITH NETFLIX

APPLE TV DOES NOT WORK WITH NETFLIX, just a black screen and "Netflix is loading" message appears. I can´t even see Netflix´s home page or set up my account. Netflix is working fine on all other devices at home, but in Apple TV.
I have tried the 8.8.8.8 DNS trick, the turn off procedure, the manual IP setting, but nothing....black screen still appears

It started working.....!!!!!  (It seems someone back there is listening)
I "forced" an upgrade, I mean it showed "AppleTV is updated", nevertheless I re-started the system using the "return to original configurations" option. Then it updated again by itself to a newer version....and started working perfectly.
I have paired my apple wireless keyboard and it works fine, this way is easier to set up passwords or so (you can also do it with your remote).
    TIPS:
I didn´t change any language or video quality configuration (scared to do so)
I changed to ethernet (cable) instead of wireless
My internet plan is 6 Megabytes (it was the same while it wasn't working)
    good luck!!

  • HT3180 I owned an Apple tv and after upgrade my internet to higher speed my Apple Tv  does not work the only message that show on the screen said if time and dates are not found go to apple/support/tv tried almost everything and nothing.  Please somebody

I owned an Apple Tv and since I upgrade my internet to higher speed my Apple Tv does not work. Please someone help.

In most scenarios you shouldn't need to forward ports, however if you need to, you may be best contacting your ISP.
As with most router issues, I would recommend that you contact your ISP with details of your problem (assuming that it was your ISP that provided it to you).
There are simply too many manufacturers with different software features and settings and often different names for such features and settings, that the best advice will likely come from those that are knowledgeable about your particular router.
Make sure your router/computer allows access over the following ports

    Hello jhidro1
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. If you are unable to get passed the Time and Date screen, try a restore on your Apple TV. It will still get you to that same screen but you may be able to enter the information that is needed to proceed further.

i have restarted and returned on both computer and apple tv btw

After hours of trying to fix- finally found simple solution !
Go to the main computer(s) where you ahve your itunes program. This applies to PC Win7 in my case.
Upper left hand corner under 'File' See drop down menu where it says " Home Sharing'. If on turn it off , then go right back and turn it on- you will have to sign in with Apple ID and password.
    Then -this is the solution.
Go to your My computer on your PC - hit button for it to shows all your drives. Click on your main drive - usually 'C". It will show all the stuff on that drive.
Find where your Itunes program is - usually under "programs" Once you find Itunes , right click to get drop down menu- at bottom is "Properties" right click. another small windows comes up - click tab for sharing . If it says not shard - you will see a blue highlighed  " Advanced Sharing" click that to folow instructions to enable sharing.
Do that for any program you want to share with Apple TV.
If they are not set to "Share" Apple Tv will not work for Home Sharing.
Once all programs involved with Ituenes etc are set to shared . Then go to Apple TV. back to Home Sharing and everything should show up.
Mine did and it was a simple fix.
    Good Luck
