Enabling 2-step verification requires you to change your password. You need to follow this procedure:
1. Before doing anything, turn off 'Find my iPhone/iPad/Mac' on any devices it's enabled on.
2. Sign out of iCloud on all your devices. On a Mac, System Preferences>iCloud and click 'Sign out'. On an iOS device, Settings>iCloud and click 'Delete account' (this will not delete the account from the server). Your iCloud-synced data will disappear from your device. If offered the opportunity to save it on your Mac, don't.
3. Go to http://appleid.apple.com, sign in and click 'Password & Security' in the sidebar. Answer the security questions, if set, and then click 'Edit' next to the password field. Save.
4. Sign back in on all your devices. Your data will re-appear (give it time). You can now re-enable 'Find My...'.
5. I reiterate, before your start, turn off 'Find My...' or you will probably need the services of Support.

Someone made a purchase from my Apple ID to a device that was not mine – I received an email stating that this occurred, yet the only solution that Apple gave me was to change my password. When I look at my account, I can see the $20.00 purchase of music volumes that I did not purchase myself and was not uploaded to any of my devices; however, I cannot find a solution to getting my money back or to file a complaint against the unknown person that did this. Additionally, how do we prevent something like this from happening again, especially when I have an iPhone? What can I do in this situation?

Thank you for the suggestion. I did change the password; however, I generally will purchase gift cards to link to the account so that if something like this ever happened it would not be taken out of a credit card or bank account.

My husband and I are divorcing and we have used his apple ID for our 2 apple tv's.  He changed his password and now I no longer have access to the 300 or more movies, tv shows and music.   He keeps telling me that , there is no way for us both to have it. So, since his Apple ID was the one programmed into our Apple TV's he has custody to everything.  I know there has to be a solution for this, because I can't be the be the only person this has ever happened too!

    Unfortunately the situation is thus...

In Firefox all browser windows and tabs use the same cookies that will identify you to the server.
If you open a different account then existing cookies are send to the server and the server sees that you already signed on (authenticated).
You can look at one of these if you want to sign on with different identities at the same time:

My iPhone and iPad cannot recognize my Apple ID. I have changed the password three times.

Thanks for the suggestion, Chris.  I actually did not resolve the issue which is why i did not post an answer.
it turns out that my iphone seems to default to an incorrect User ID (it defaults to an @me account, which is not something that i have ever used).
even when i change the User ID in my settings for the iTunes store, it still appears when i attempt to get updates for my existing apps.  however, it does seem to use the correct ID when i attempt to purchase new apps.
If someone actually had an answer to correct this, i would love to update my existing apps.
    Thank you.

The email is sent to your recovery email. That email is not the same as your Apple ID. If you haven't assigned one with your Apple ID do so here > https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/

  • Whi are Apple Inc  FORCING me to change my Apple ID password

Why I tried to log onto my apple account via "Manage Your Apple ID" on my PC, Apple wanted me to change my password before I could log in. I am a grown up Adult and can decide for myself what password works for me. I have used this password for over 10 years using iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches and have never once being hacked, this in itself is proof that my password is secure, well as secure as any password on the net. The way Apple behaves in these situations one would think that they are given their products away for free. I paid a lot of money for my devices and as such have the right to manage them as I see fit once I am breaking no laws. Why does Apple continually try and micro manage their products esp after they have been sold to a customer. I will not be changing my password, I will change my device before I am forced into doing something I find intrusive.

  • Google is trying to force me to change my password and I don't want to

Google used to send me warnings 3 or 4 months back... suspicious activity on my google account. I seem to ave been hacked for a very long time, years, in fact. Nobody can tell me what to do. The hackers seem to operate in 'real time' and in some cases, from the same location (ex. a hotel) that I am in. Somebody told me this is called 'shadowing'. (I'm not 'stalked'.) Now google has stopped me logging in and say I MUST change my password. I don't want to, cos I'm sure this move is useless, and I'm also worried that the change WILL NOT open my email anyway. I'm afraid of that, cos it could be hackers who are impersonating google. I experienced heavy hacking event several years ago, the techie almost couldn't save my inbox; he couldn't believe it himself. (Massive instability and login problems. He finally managed to stabilize after about 90 mins.) The hackers are quite sophisticated. I often used to get a message from google when signing out, saying that 'other people are logged onto this site and closing down now could cause them to lose data.' Recently I get a very quick flashed message when shutting down; it seemed to come from google (chrome?) downloads and it shows a liitle man cartoon figure falling, and it says, 'He's dead, Jim', and hints that my google drive is out of space, or similar. It only lasts a second or less. Is that normal? I checked much on google troubleshooting, no use!

I don't know if there's anything you can do to avoid changing your google password if google wants you to. Do the password reset options come up on the web, or are sent to your recovery email? The "He's dead Jim" icon isn't normal unless you are out of google drive space. Depending on your usage.. Most people don't use that much of their 15 gigs.
Also some things you could do:
-Scan your computer for Malware (I'm sure you've done this multiple times but the more the merrier. I use [https://www.malwarebytes.org/ Malwarebytes] .
-Remove cookies (Just in case thats the way they are getting your password, even though it sounds like they have a different way)

  • I have changed my Apple id. It should be in order. But somehow in my iCloud there is a different apple id and I cannot change the password. Apple is no more giving me an extra change. I have used all? How can I remoce this extra iCloud account?  Ellimati.

I have changed my Apple id. I should be in order. But iCloud is not working, because it has a different account name. I cannot remove the account, because it needs password. I don´t have it! I have asked too many times a possibility to have a new password. Apple is no more giving me the e-mails (so easy to handle the account!) I hope if I can enter the account, I can also remove it. How to remove an extra iCloud account with old account name? Ellimatilda

You need to sign out in System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud and sign back in again with the new password
